It was Hawaiian Night at our community pool and this truck fed us all night long. It seemed as if they crafted the menu specifically for our occasion. It was well-received and enjoyed by everyone. The crab mac and cheese was exceptionally good, and they didn't hold back on the crab. I also had a Kahlua pork sandwich and it was legit. They had a great selection of drinks, including a homemade tea. We had a long line, but they kept us entertained and fed. The truck staff was very professional and respectful. So being a born from New Orleans I'm more accustomed to our shrimp and grits . I got the shrimp and grits from La Bete food truck and the shrimp are fried , they taste fresh , the grits are thick which is ok but the kicker for me was the WEIRD gravy on top. It had stringy crab crab pieces I'm guessing and no taste. Left my stomach feeling weird. It was $24 dollars which would be a fair price if it tasted good. Loose that weird gravy and maybe add some more cheese and butter to the grits. Only reason it got a two because the shrimp are fried perfect . read more

Someone shared this gem on social media and we couldn't wait to try it. The chef gave us a sample of the buttery and perfectly seasoned crabmeat which made my mouth water with anticipation of my buttery blue crabmeat sandwich. It was filled with so much meat it was falling off the bun. If he hadn't provided a fork I'd of ate the droppings with my hands. Looking forward to visiting the restaurant when it opens. From their food truck, I got to try their Shrimp and Grits with Blue Crab Gravy. I loved how their shrimp was super juicy and covered with a nicely fried butter-y crispy batter! The staff told me beforehand that this batch of grits isn't quite the right texture and confirmed if I was ok before paying. I appreciated his heads up and still found the grits to be decent! The best part was the gravy in my opinion. Before opening up my take out box, I could just smell the crab aroma!! I loved how they had little bits of crab meat inside and overall it was nicely seasoned!  The Shrimp and Grits was $20, which definitely over my daily lunch budget, and I didn't know until after I ordered. I've tried this food truck whenever it frequents the VAMC during the week. I've tried the shrimp tacos which were *chef's kiss*. They were the reason I went back to try this truck a second time. I got a chicken sandwich next, but like another reviewer says, "Don't bother with their burgers, you'll come down with something sitting out for 25+ minutes." Admittedly, I had come around 1:30PM, so I'm sure that's why things might have not been as fresh as possible, but I did have a touch of food poisoning the following morning, which is why this rating is 4/5. Customer service started off not great, we walked up and weren't even greeted by the employees. The blue crab roll, im assuming is their specialty-was MID. I understand they put butter on the roll but the bottom bun was wet, soggy. We only live a few min from where they were stationed so for the bun to be falling apart as soon as i got home was unacceptable. I had to literally use a hamburger bun I already had to replace the bottom because it was lukewarm and wet. Also the french fries, asked for ketchup on the side and they just dumped ketchup directly on my fries and didn't give us a sauce cup, or at least let us know they didnt have sauce cups. Fries were drenched in ketchup and soggy by the time I got home as well. Wouldn't recommend this spot. read more

Steak and salmon tacos were not very flavorful and dry. They were out of the crab which we heard was good but that was not posted. Steak was literally just meat on a tortilla and salmon was just fish and a spicy sauce. No veggies or anything. La Bête food truck came to my job for lunch and I decided to give them a try. Their menu was different than the usual trucks which I liked. I ordered stew chicken with rice and beans and plantain. I also ordered a side of crab Mac n cheese. I ate the side of Mac n cheese for lunch and it was pretty good but lacked cheese for my liking. It was flavorful but more like noodles with crab meat. The stewed chicken was pretty flavorful and very fulfilling. I didn't add any spice to mine but they do offer mild medium or hot sauce to go on top. I would give the truck another try and order the tacos or curry chicken next time. Prices are very reasonable for the portion size. read more

Really disappointed. 4 of us took out food. It was all horribly salty, so much so that I tossed mine out. 2 of us asked for not spicy and got really spicy food. The fries were frozen crinkle cut. The grits were a weird texture and unpleasant. i would never order from them again. 4 different dishes and none were good. All in all, really over salted, mediocre food. I had curry chicken with rice for lunch. I took some hot sauce too which was nice and hot. The food was excellent. Had the pleasure of eating here while on post here at Ft. Lee Va. I had the curry chicken with rice, and it was a taste of home! I'm from Jamaica originally so I'm always looking out for caribbean fooderies. It was exciting when I and some friends ran accross La Bete. Had some tacos at The Veil - ordered the buffalo shrimp tacos and some fries. Fries were really good. My issue was the tacos - the shrimp still had the shell tails on it then fried and placed in my tacos- the shell was painful to chew on plus not tasty obviously it to dismantle the tacos to pull tails off to eat. The tortillas seemed stale or just not made right. Customer service was excellent but I won't try them again I'll probably just walk to Don't Look Back or to Tazza in the future. read more

Tried them at the RVA Taco Fest this year and got the vegan seitan taco. Customer service was very good, but I was quite a bit shocked when I received my $7 taco. It was a small 6" corn taco filled with a scant amount of well-seasoned seitan and undercooked mushrooms. The flavor was good but this taco should not have cost more than $3. It was 2 bites of food after a 20 minute wait. Not at all worth the price. read more

I tried this out I saw the menu the day before and I was going to check it out today... I went there and I ordered a rosemary cheesesteak and they told me what was on it and if it was okay to be put on my cheesesteak I didn't want any onions or mushrooms but every thing else was fine...and then I ordered my boyfriend the curry chicken with steamed rice they shed for my name and after that they used my name for anything else any questions or comments they used your name ( very great customer service and it felt like they cared about there customers) I got our food took it home and tried the food it was delicious and we definitely will be going back soon read more

I ordered the crab and shrimp jambalaya it was significantly over salted. I asked for it hot and they gave me something as spicy as you'd get in fast food places. There was barely any crab meat in there...at $15 it's a rip off...only reason they got 2 stars the shrimp were properly cooked. Loved La Bete's take on the chicken curry as the spices and the use of the darker chicken meat definitely had a Caribbean influence on the dish. Absolutely delicious! The food truck is clean and owners are wonderful, but the food is what really stands out! We tried the creole fries with all four sauces and they blow regular fries and ketchup out of the water! The shrimp tacos were awesome-just the right amount of spice to enhance the flavor. The blue crab sandwich was fantastic-the butter complimented the natural flavor of the crab. What a perfect way to mix up a Saturday at a brewery. Check La Bête out! read more

I had the shrimp tacos and blue crab mac and cheese at Kindred Spirit brewing. Both were excellent. The shrimp were my favorite though. The batter was crunchy and well seasoned and the shrimp were huge. Will definitely be following this food truck and looking forward to trying other things on the menu! read more

I was visiting family in the hospital and was headed to the cafeteria when I saw this food truck outside. I'm not from Richmond and I'd never heard of them. I ordered two blue crab sandwiches for my mother and myself. We agreed that they were absolutely fantastic! It's expensive for a sandwich and fries but I was very pleased with the amount of delicious, buttery crab. I'll definitely buy again if I ever spot this truck again. read more
