First time trying this Tasty Garden in Irvine. We used to go to the one in Monterey Park quite a bit before it was closed. The menu is very similar even though I was told the owners are different. For the three of us, we ordered Roti with Curry Sauce, Fried Fish Fillet with Salt and Pepper, Black Pepper Filet Mignon with Fresh Mushrooms, and Braised Green Beans with Minced Pork. Food was rather tasty; I especially liked the fish. The beef was nice and tender, just a bit greasy. The Roti was nice and crispy, but also a bit on the greasy side. The green beans were good. I like the fact that they provide free steamed rice with the entrees and free refills for the drinks. The restaurant is rather spacious and seats are comfortable (we got a booth). Decor is pleasant. Originally the four of us wanted to try All that Shaba( AYCE) but the wait would be 45 min so my friends decided to go to Tasty Garden next door. It's a Hong Kong style Chinese restaurant which I prefer to American Chinese. It's a cold wet day and we were welcomed warmly by the staff. Quite a big, airy and clean place. Ordered French style filet mignon, egg rolls, fried squid, honey walnut shrimp, S/P pork chops and green beans with sliced fish cake in XO sauce. All the food is tasty, not too salty, no cornstarch gravy(ugh), big American portions, complimentary rice and reasonable prices! Came here to celebrate my dad's birthday the other night. Food is still alright (for the most part) but service was pretty bad. It wasn't packed but the kitchen came out with the food so slow. It came with a couple dishes then lagged on the rest of the food, maybe a dish every 8-10 minutes or so there after. With the last dish coming 50 minutes or so after we ordered and didn't come without prompting. No apologies nor did the staff care. Unfortunately, service has gotten so bad we won't be coming back. Place was clean and the foods were great so if you ever in the mood for great Chinese food, this is the place. I was very impressed with the service and management of this restaurant, surprisingly, as I don't normally have any expectations for services at Chinese restaurants: one of the dishes we ordered didn't come out as we expected, we spoke with Ray(?) who happened to be the manager there, and he immediately showed remorse and listened to my concerns; then after checking it out, acknowledged their mistake, apologized, and explained to me what probably happened; and came up with a satisfying solution. Tasty Garden is a Cantonese restaurant in the same strip plaza as 99 Ranch. This is a solid place to get good Cantonese food in Irvine. We had ordered several dishes to varying degrees of success. Our favorite go-to dish is the Peking pork chop. The portions are large and the pork is crispy and juicy with a nice sweet glaze. We also enjoyed the Taiwanese 3 cup chicken, eggplant and 3 treasure hot pot. The beef curry was also tasty but was spicier than expected because there was no spicy symbol on the menu. I was disappointed in the salt and pepper shrimp as the shrimp was not fresh and pasty tasting. The eel fried rice in the stone pot was extremely fishy tasting so not something you should order unless fishy doesn't bother you. The tofu in the mixed mushrooms with fried tofu hot pot were also not the freshest and were already sour. I've gotten takeout from this restaurant as well and the food experience is much better when you eat in the restaurant. The parking is very easy and the wait staff was friendly.
