This is a sad one to have to write. We've been ordering from this place for 20 years and up until recently loved it. There use to be a very nice women that answered the phone who was peppy and welcoming but she went away years ago and the new phone support could care less. The delivery use to be very fast. Like when you hang up the phone they're at the door. Not now. And when you do get the order it's almost always wrong and missing something. When you call back they tell you they'll send it out again but the driver takes his time knowing it's a mistake order. But the biggest problem now is the food quality. It drastically went down. Everything used to be fresh. The meat good cuts. The veggies crisp. And great sauce creations. Now, the opposite. Food is soggy. Over cooked. The fried items like crab Rangoon and egg rolls are twice cooked and mushy. The breaded chicken is 75% breading and no chicken. Like fried dough balls. We liken the food quality to frozen dinners from the grocery store. The last thing to put this over the top and we'll never go back, while we were waiting for our food in store, we noticed two bad, gross things about the kitchen. One, someone cooking was hacking and coughing all over the place. No face mask. No gloves. Two, we watched as one of the cooks took crab rangoons from the counter, red cooked them, then dumped them back in a box. One fell on the floor and they picked it up and put it back in the box! Not sure what happened with this place but sadly it's not what it used to be. We've given them years of support and praise in the past and tried continuing with them even after things went down thinking they would get better again or it was just an off night. Ignore the reviews about the rude service. The owner could tell me my mom is so old, she farts dust. As long as they keep cooking this delicious Chinese food they can say whatever they want. I ordered via DoorDash so I didn't deal with anyone directly, but my meal was exquisite. I've been searching for a solid Chinese Food restaurant in the Chicagoland area for 15 years and this is the best one around. The sesame chicken was high quality, all white meat. The lo mein was hot and plantiful. The potstickers were perfection. The Mongolian beef should really be called Mongolian onion with a little bit of beef, but it was still the bomb diggity. The dish should be called salty and soggy shrimp because that is what they were. I have salt and pepper shrimp both with shell and without. These were the worst. I am scared for the well being of my family right now after discovering mold on a piece of meat! Nobody wants to find mold on their food after they are nearly done eating, it makes you wonder if mold was on anything else. The fried rice was hard and old tasting and at first I was bothered by the lack of meat, but after discovering the mold, I realized that maybe I was lucky they are so stingy with the meat in the fried rice. I feel like they try to trick you with the lunch specials. They will fill all compartments of the container with rice and then put a ton of vegetables where the meat goes, that is all to hide the fact that they are only giving you a few pieces of meat in the main entree. I placed a order on Grub hub that I could pick up got there a little early and the gentleman behind the counter yelled at me for being early in front of other customers and basically threw the piece of paper with the order at me so I could see the pick up time. This is my go to place when I want to order Chinese food! Inexpensive, good portion sizes, and really quick service (10-15minutes). Great tasting cheap eats. My menu items are the beef chow fun and chicken wings.. The wings are pretty large have a really tasty, crispy batter. And the beef in the chow fun is so soft and moist, and they give you a good serving of beef mixed in the noodles. I tried a smoothie this time. The mango smoothie was a little too sweet and artificial tasting but far from worst I've tasted from a fast food place and pretty much on par with what you would expect. The place isn't really appealing for dining in, it's small and a plain. But that doesn't really affect the taste of the food which my review is mainly based off of. read more

Have been in a while so strolled in 30 minutes after they opened, no calls, no traffic (people), ordered the appetizer combo tray, then we got the General Tso's Chicken, Mongolian Chicken Lunch specials and the Chicken Chow mein. This review is for service. I can't honestly say that the food is not good, it is. I placed an order for delivery at 6:02. At 7:45 I called to check on the delivery. I explained to the man on the phone that I had been waiting a lot longer than usual and was checking the status. He gruffly said "it's on the way". I asked how do you know, as he hadn't even asked my name, address nothing. He said "the driver is gone, it's on the way" and hung up the phone. I waited another 10 minutes and called again. A woman answered and I told her I realized they were busy but I had every right to inquire about my order without being hung up on. She apologized and asked for my phone number. She said "it's on the way". At 8:15 I called Beyond Menu (who takes their online orders) to see if I could get a refund if I cancelled. They said they would call the restaurant and get back to me. They called me back 5 minutes later and said Tasty House said they never received my order. You know, the order that had been "on the way" for 2+ hours. Like I said, I like the food. Had they just said it's real busy and I'm sorry we are running late and took the time to look up my order, they would still have me as a customer. But I refuse to patronize businesses that treat me poorly. I'm sure I will find another place for Chinese. read more

It was our first time ordering here and it was just okay. The shrimp in the sweet and sour shrimp were tiny although appeared deceptively large due to the excessive amount of breading. They should just take it off the menu if they do not offer the correct sized shrimp for the dish. The Mongolian beef was blah and advertised spice that did not exist. Threw out the leftovers. The egg roll was fine, but nothing special. Last but not least, the chicken & broccoli was what we expected and was the best dish of all. Oh and the sautéed broccoli is really broccoli, carrots, and onions drowning in brown gravy similar to the gravy used in egg foo young. This is the same multi-purpose gravy that was used for the Mongolian beef. It was not at all what I was expecting, but given the quality of the rest of the order I was unfortunately not surprised. Would have given 3 stars, but the deception with the popcorn sized sweet & sour shrimp is shameful! Nonetheless, we are still on the hunt for a good Chinese food restaurant in the area. read more

I wonder if I went there on an off day. After reading all the reviews, I decided to drive cross town to try their empress chicken. When I got home I was mildly disappointed. The chicken was, in now, crispy, it was soggy tiny pieces of meat were grossly covered in fat. The chicken was bland wasn't spicy whatsoever. They do have in-restaurant seating but we prefer to take it home. The lady who usually takes the orders is very nice and always gets my order right. When you call and she answers, she has a very pleasant & welcoming greeting: "TASTY HOUSE". They are very fast. Call in orders usually take only 15min, They also deliver, which is really nice when you don't want to bother getting out. I absolutely love their egg rolls. I could curl up with a box of fried rice and egg rolls while watching a movie and be perfectly content. They are sometimes very busy, so it helps to call in your order ahead so you can just pop in and take. Parking can be a challenge cause it is in a strip mall where parking is a limited commodity to begin with. read more

Man, the block between Maple and Wisconsin on Roosevelt Rd. has so much good food - Salerno's, ino's, Los Anafrez, and now Tasty House. I just ate from here the other day on a whim (I was planning on going to Ino's with some friends but we decided to go here because we walk by it all the time). They have ordered from here many times before, but I never have. I've gotta say, this could be the biggest bang-for-buck I've gotten from just about any restaurant. we had our food to go, so we had the Styrofoam trays. I had the Green Bean Beef special, which includes chicken-fried rice, an egg roll and fortune cookies. It was less than $6 after tax, but outside of lunch or dinner hours they add a dollar to the price. I'll just say this - they put so much food in these cartons they have to *staple* them shut. And it isn't all rice either - the amount of green beans (string beans)and beef alone could have filled me up. It was a bit salty considering green beans were half the main ingredient. That probably had more to do with the sauce. But for the price I can deal with that. I don't even feel like it's as good of a buy going to Old Country Buffet or Ming's or other Asian buffets. Forget Panda Express - if I'm going out for Asian food, this is my new place. Well done, guys. The specials menu alone is appealing, so next time I will be sure to get something else. read more

Meh...very meh. I've stopped by Tasty House about 5 times now...and they're so inconsistent with their food I don't know how I feel about it. It's always a mess in their store front, if I dine in they always forget I'm there, and the food is just simply mediocre. The only reason I keep returning and spending money there is because it's right next to the place I do laundry and sometimes I want a snack. Unfortunately, I usually go in with high hopes and come out extremely annoyed or pissed off.
