04/12/26 - I've eaten here many times but tonight the food & service was way below what I've gotten in the past. It's not like it was super busy yet us took over 10 minutes just to place our order. We ordered the following items. Even then it took around 15 mins to get our food. 1). Two pork & shrimp egg rolls. They were tasty but were burnt. (2 stars ) 2). My stand by shrimp egg foo yung. Tasty as always Very good (4 stars ) 3). Combo platter - called No 1 dish in the World? How & why? The dish had, chicken, shrimp, peapods, tomato's, & beef . The beef in the dish had a rancid taste. I should have sent this back (1 Star ) Service was very slow between ordering, receding the food & waiting to receive the check (2 stars )) Usually we come at lunchtime where the price difference between lunch & dinner is huge). The lunch is a much better deal for the same dishes). This restaurant usually has decent quality food but if I come back it will be for lunch & not dinner as the price point is much more affordable. read more

Delicious as always . Twenty five dollars for lunch a pile of pork fried rice pork egg fu young order of eggroll wonton soup . With lots of leftover. Should have ordered egg roll for carry out. Old school Cantonese restaurant they have the carpet in the lanterns and the red vinyl booth. They've been around for about 50 years so good you're definitely not going for the atmosphere. Lovely old school interior, warm welcome, Tea and paper zodiac placemats. We loved the crispy egg rolls and accompanying sauces. Family of four ordered dinner for three and added on a veggie egg fu young. That was WAY too much food. Noted. The entrees came out on beautiful silver trays. The dishes that were in sauce were pretty gooey and plain tasting. The meat had been overly tenderized and was unnaturally squishy. The dry dishes like fried rice were better. This is a great old school Chinese restaurant. This is the kind of place my grandparents would take me to when I was younger. The food was nearly perfect! We started with the potstickers, crab Rangoon, and eggrolls. All three might be some of the best I have ever had. They were also super large. My mom got a hot and sour soup which she thought was ok. I got to taste some and I agreed. It wasn't bad, but lacked a bit of zip. We mixed in some of the chili paste and that helped. As for the main dishes, we got the General Tso's Chicken and the Mongolian Beef. The Tso had a little too much breading on it, but still had a good taste! The Mongolian had way too much sauce which made me worried that they were hiding poor quality. The weird thing was they were not. The actual beef was cooked well and not mushy at all. It also had the perfect balance of spice and flavor. I just wished it wasn't drenched in sauces. The portions were also pretty sizable. The service was good, but kind of expected for a Chinese place. The prices are a little expensive, but it was doable, especially with the leftovers to go! They do package up your leftovers which was a nice touch. Even though the cost was a little higher than expected, the food was better than expected. Either way, I will be back ! read more

A hidden gem of a Chinese restaurant in Morton Grove. Very straightforward, no nonsense place. The dinner serving sizes are huge; definitely best to be share between two people. The egg drop soup is very eggy (in the best way possible) but the real star here is the egg roll. It is gigantic. It comes with a mustard and a sweet sauce. Both are excellent with it. We ordered Chinese food for Christmas and spent around $300, expecting it to be special. Unfortunately, it was a huge disappointment. We ordered shrimp with lobster sauce, fried rice, Mongolian beef, orange chicken, lo mein, egg rolls, and crab rangoon, and I honestly can't say that anything stood out as great. The food was edible, but that's about the best thing I can say. Everything was bland, forgettable, and definitely not worth the price. For a holiday meal and that level of spending, we expected much better quality and flavor. Instead, we were left feeling upset and disappointed. When someone tells the server that they have a mushroom allergy THAT MEAN THEY ARE ALLERGIC TO MUSHROOMS! This has happened so many times and we have given them so many chances. My wife's food was brought out with mushrooms then taken back to "fix". But a little surprise when we got home with the left overs. They never remade the food. They just "removed" the mushrooms. But this last visit was enough for us not to return! Would you like a lawsuit? Because I saved the mushrooms that came back home with us. I went to Palace Cantonese for the first time last Saturday with two of my good friends and I highly recommend going there too. I ordered the Chicken Subgum Pan Fried Noodles. And my friends ordered the Pork and Beef Subgum Noodles. The Chicken Subgum was excellent. The noodles were the perfect crispness and very fulfilling. Our waiter was very friendly and helpful. And the atmosphere was welcoming and pleasant. I had a fantastic time and can not wait to come back again soon. read more

I was disappointed. We got some sweet and sour chicken, curry chicken, and bbq pork fried rice. The sweet and sour was underwhelming, and surprisingly the chicken was a little hard. The curry chicken was ordered extra spicy but wasn't. And the pork in the rice was meh; I mostly ate around the rice. I'm glad I gave it a try since I'd heard good things about it, but it's not somewhere I'll make a return visit. read more

This is just bad Chinese food. Lo mein isn't lo mein. Fried rice was just old rice refried. A lot of gooey corn starch in everything. Owners or whomever served us were nice. Food wasn't bad I think the soup could've been a little bit better as far as maybe a little bit more of the purple cabbage or tofu other than that it was delicious. I had the chicken and broccoli with fried rice Chicken not a lot of flavor you kinda had to count on the sauce or gravy whatever it was. The rice was good just standard fried rice nothing else no shrimp no nothing which I didn't ask for so I got exactly what I ordered. All in all I have no real complaints except for maybe the egg roll. I thought I was in for a treat. It was crispy. Kind of big like the old kow kow restaurant used to make but just a little bit small and if you remember kow kow. it left me wanting more. I mean, if there was shrimp in it, I didn't taste it meat in it. I didn't taste it. I'd give it three stars. I don't know if they serve alcohol. I didn't ask because I don't drink alcohol. read more

In my quest to find good Chinese restaurant, I stopped here hoping that the Yelp reviews were too harsh. Unfortunately, I'm adding my mediocre rating on this highly americanized food that tastes nothing like the Chinese food I grew up on. I had the roast duck and the pressed duck and fried rice. The Roast duck is $24 for tough, smallish portion of duck. the skin was tough and the meat dried out. The pressed duck was on a bed of overcooked veggies in corn starched sauce. The pressed duck had a weird texture ugh. And the Palace fried rice was barely edible. diced pieces of chicken and pork and baby shrimp in highly soy sauced rice. No carrots, green onions, eggs, cabbage. And kicker is they charge $8.50 for the mess. Never again. read more

A solid place for Americanized Chinese food. One step in here and you're transported back to one of those classic Chinese restaurants you'd see in a movie in the 80s complete with the metal dishes with covers dark brown wood features and red decor including lanterns. The food itself is pretty decent, the dishes can be ordered a la carte or as a dinner which for a few bucks more will come with soup, egg roll, tea, egg foo yung, and and almond and fortune cookie for dessert. All the dishes we've ordered have been pretty standard Chinese fare, no surprises. They have some dishes you might not find anywhere else like some Polynesian type dishes but everything is pretty clearly labeled and described in their menu. Never had a bad meal here and portions are pretty generous. Located in a tiny plaza, they have a little lot to the front and side of the restaurant. read more

PCR is one of the few remaining Chinese places that still offer a lunch special between, well, lunch hours. Minus the fact that the meal is NOT included with a can of soda but still a pretty good deal. You can get an array of choices (9 total I believe) for their lunch specials. I always stick with the #8 sweet & sour chicken. Ask for the sweet & sour sauce on the side, otherwise they will dunk it all over your chicken which can make it soggy in no time. You also have your choice between white rice or fried rice as well as an egg roll or soup. Their fried rice is good but very greasy! I despise this parking lot, however. It's a tiny strip mall off of Waukegan rd and there is hardly ever any parking. Each time I've had to park in the handicap or behind someone -so "to-go" option is definitely the best option! Always stop by Palace Restaurant when I'm passing through. The food's solid every time. It's fresh, good portions, and super reasonably priced. The egg rolls are crispy and packed with flavor, the egg foo young hits the spot, and the orange chicken is just the right mix of crispy and saucy. Nothing fancy, just really good food done right. The restaurant was extremely quiet when we went on a Monday evening and although it says it was closed on Mondays on the website, they were open we were the only ones in the restaurant, despite that fact, the service was still slow. I had something very simple but boy was it good. I had the shrimp fried rice along with tea and dessert was the usual. A great fortune cookie and an almond cookie. Prices are great , service was great , The menu is filled with all kinds of choices where you can go ala carte or full blown dinner. If you're in the Morton Grove area you should stop in. Driving down Waukegan road too fast is not good because you miss all of the great places to explore. The Palace Cantonese caught the corner of my eye whilst driving slow and with compelling reviews on Yelp - we made it a point to come here for their egg foo young. We came early to decrease the probability and were delighted by the old school style which harkens back to childhood days. The moon gateway into the main dining room is classic!! The meals come with egg drop and wanton soup - both were very good. One meal came with an egg-roll and I'm accustomed to it being a bit fatter and with a peanut buttery taste - theirs is fine but different and no doubt healthier. Finally the meals come with egg foo young (EFY) but you're not allowed to upgrade with meat (okayyy). The veggie EFY was really good by the way. Now the Mongolian beef was a bit salty and I tried it a number of times and yes - too much sodium. The Orange chicken was overly fried and the chicken as a result - was a bit tough. We'll come back to try different items and I suggest allowing the customer to upgrade their EFY with an up-charge. read more

Love the food here. We had Orange Chicken, sweet and Sour Chicken and the Black Dragon (black bean sauce and wonton noodles) yum!! Everything was delicious....great service too. Totally disappointed. Sweet and sour chicken appeared to be fried twice? My guess as it was incredibily hard all batter and no chicken. Could barely chew it and had to send it back. Chicken fried rice was bland. No vegetables that i could see. Egg foo young looked unappealing swimming in a slimy gravy. Place is 70s and is in need of updating. Not inexpensive on top of it. Prefer wu's which is 15 minutes away. Service was rushed and he just threw our entrees. Never asked if we want more water or how anything was. Sorry had higher hopes. One and done. read more

What a great little gem on a busy street tucked in a strip mall. The decor is quant menu huge egg roll one of the best I have had in decades the peanut butter flavor perfectly complement the stuffed veggies shrimp and pork and perfectly crisp outside. The moo goo hai pan was flavorful and the vegetables were crisp. We ordered beef and got to pick out vegetables! How fun!!! Pork fried rice was flavorful and pan fried noodles were awesome.
