Walking around the strip mall directly across windward mall, looking for a place to eat. We happened on this unassuming Korean restaurant. Interesting The sign says "tasty korean barbecue" , but it doesn't have the number 3. The storefront looks like any typical korean barbecue restaurant. The inside is air conditioned And just looks like a typical L&L restaurant with the usual diner type, chair and tables.(pic) The staff was not friendly or hostile, just served you and that was good enough. The menu was your typical korean barbecue menu (pic) with meet jun..kalbi..bbq chicken etc and korean vegetables.... I like that they had breaded zucchini and shredded takewon as a choice. You can tell when the meet jun is a winner when you don't need the sauce and it still tastes good. Meet jun was on the crispy side and it just worked. The prices we're manageable and the portions were generous....(pic) and it seemed to be a pretty popular local takeout choice. The restaurant looks pretty generic. I was on my way home from my appointment nearby. I'm not familiar to this area but I had to bring home lunch and dinner plate. It's spacious their menu similar to Yummy's plus other local eats as well. I choose their Tasty Special Combination with four sides for regular plate and two for mini. The combination has kalbi, Bbq meat and chicken. Their food was exceptionally delicious it was not salty especially the bean sprout Namul. My favorite choices are the mayo potatoes, shoyu marinated potato! Bean sprout and seasoned seaweed. Their portion of Kalbi are huge and texture of the meat soft! I'd like to come back again although the drive too far I'll be back to try other menu option. Friendly service and food prepared is excellent and generation portion! Ordered a mini BBQ chx and got 2 thighs with rice and 2 choices of veggies. The veggies were delicious! Very tasty, and they pile it on. The rice was decent, and the chicken was tasty although a bit dry. I definitely will be going back to this place because the veggies are so good. [FOOD] Let me start by saying I always order the VEGETABLE PLATE with no rice (so I get 5 choices instead of the normal 4), so I know what I am getting up front. My favorites are the Japchae, Seaweed, Kimchee or Cucumber Kimchee, Bean Sprouts, and Potato with Mayo. These must be really popular since they never seem to run out if I go at a decent time. [SERVICE] No problems with the staff, everyone has been nice, efficient and patient especially when I am deciding what choices I want and get indecisive. You can find them just right across Windward Mall in the Kaneohe Bay Shopping Center that has Longs Drugs and Safeway. The long rice and potatoes was better than Other Korean fast foods I've been to Kim chee was about thr same. Stir fried spicy squid could use a bit more heat. I had two dinner parties recently and ordered the family pack A along with two side orders of kalbi. For the second party, I also ordered an extra vegetable plate. This was for a party of 10 adults. You can get the pack without rice and get 15 servings of vegetables with the pack. The extra vegetable plate was added because people eat a lot of the banchan. Food was very good and I didn't have to preorder. I ordered at the restaurant and waited about 15 minutes for it to be completed. In the future, I will probably order a side of meat jun to replace one of the side orders of kalbi. People also really liked the meat jun too. read more

Our uncle and aunty said this is the best meat jeon on the island and they were not wrong! It was very tender and flavorful and they did not skimp on portions. In our mini, we got a huge helping of cucumber kimchi and japchae. Was very impressed with these as well! The cucumber kimchi was so fresh and well-seasoned. It's the best I've had in a long time. Tasty Korean BBQ 3 in Kaneohe is a order and go eatery. We ordered the combination plates, both mini and regular portions. The mini portion comes with two bonchon selections, the regular combination plate comes with 4. The bonchon selections were typical of what you would see at a Korean restaurant. All the bonchon selected were very good. Korean ribs - 4/5 The Kalbi ribs were were good. I've had more tastier marinaded Kalbi ribs from other Korean restaurants. The Kalbi ribs were decent, more tender and not tough. What it lacked was the intense marinade that you would taste at a good Korean sit down restaurant. That being said, the kabli ribs were good and I would order it again. BBQ Chicken - 3.5/5 The Korean BBQ chicken marinade was on the light side similar to the Kalbi ribs. You still can tast the marinade, but it was not robust as I old prefer. I've had tastier Korean BBQ chicken. On top of that, the BBQ chicken that I got was a little overcooked and the edges dry. Some of the chicken parts were soft and tender, the overcooked parts were dry. If the chicken were marinaded overnight, the BBQ chicken flavor would be so much better. Meat Jun - 3/5 The meat Jun fried breading had some flavor, but was more flat. The meat was thin, I prefer a thicker cut. Everyone had their preference. That said, I would not shy away from ordering the meat Jun. Overall, Tasty Korean BBQ is a decent order and go eatery, and the food is relatively good. Totally not one to focus on the negative BUT this is $24 for a combination plate. Literally 5 pieces of katsu. Seems like the sides is more Important then the main dish portion. Not worth it. To give you a perspective, I live about 10 mins away and I'll come here at least twice to three times a month. Every single time the owner - man and wife has been incredibly nice and my food was always delicious! I don't get the mini because for a few dollars more I can get a regular and they overfill those take out boxes. My sides are always spilling out haha. It'll feed me the night of and lunch for the next day. Never a complaint, just wanted to leave a nice message since their yelp is overfilled with pretty icky reviews. The meat Jun is thicker than the usual ones you get but it's delicious and soft, everytime. The sides are yummy too, I appreciate that there is fried zucchini! Usually that's only a plate and it's like $10 and up. All the sides we got was delicious and fresh. Was told this is two pieces of chicken but no way unless it is the meat from two wings. She did not offer to add more (which most places would do to make a customer happy), and I asked "Is this it?" Once upon a time, I read a local food blog site that stated Tasty Korean BBQ 3 had the #1 Meat Jun on the island. I was like a little puppy who'd thought he heard "treat" and his ears perked up. I mean, I'd only been living a block away from this place for FIVE years and never bothered to try it. I'd seen the smoke billowing on the top when I parked close to stop at Longs. And I'd seen the constant droves of people walking in/out but I was more of a Ichiriki-snob at the time. But, since it was on a Top 5 list, I was convinced to try this so-called #1 Meat Jun. ....and so we did. We LOVED it! As for the actual meat jun? Guys, it's layers upon layers. And it is legit. We also found out that their bbq chicken is pretty good. Their kalbi is also delish, but they don't give that much so that's kind of a letdown. Last but not least, we always like to get a side order plate of mandoo which is pretty yummy, as well. Their veggies are always consistent and "tasty" - duh, it's from Tasty Korean BBQ 3, hahahaha. We always order over the phone (it only takes 15 minutes which is a ride over the Likelike from town). AND...we order no rice and are rewarded with an extra veggie side. The smell of their bbq meats cooking fills the air of Kaneohe. It made me instantly hungry, when I was not and where I ended up buying a regular combination plate costing me over $22. Disappointed was I when I got to my destination only to find I was missing my two scoops rice and utensils, (utensils that I had asked for both fork and chopstick).
