Wanted to stop for mochi on the way home from Chesapeake wanted to get mochi tea and donuts, but they open at 12pm so went to tasty korean bbq at 11am at Kempsriver shops and got kimbap for dinner for later tonight Lady was very nice and and said my order will be done in 15 minutes so fresh made. The inside was small it used to be tons of tables, but I guess in 2020 they had to put less so they put up dividers and than added a china glass cabinet display. They have 3 tables now. This was my first time coming here been wanting to try this place out but I never drove over there, but my dad has tried them before a while ago before 2019 The kimbap was in a different container when the pictures were in styrofoams, but now it comes in plastic container for to go. it was tasty and delicious. I waited on my table and it took too long for me to get it only because that lady crew didn't say that I could just grab it from the fridge! The food here is very good. Entrees are made to order so the food is hot and fresh. We have tried nearly everything on their menu over the years and we have no complaint with the food. There is a small dining area. Today while dining in, we needed to clean the tables ourselves. Kinda gross but the food made it worth the hassle. I am solely rating this establishment 3 stars because they seem to choose who they are friendly with otherwise they are downright rude or cold. My boyfriend has been talking about how delicious the Tasty Korean BBQ was when he tried it years ago so since we were in the Kempsville area, we decided to stop by and grab some for dinner. As soon as we walked in, we smelled the amazing aroma of bbq and I immediately wanted everything on the menu lol. I asked the lady at the front for some suggestions and she told us that the Spicy BBQ Chicken was popular along with the Beef & BBQ Chicken Combo Meal so we insisted on getting those exact meals for dinner. Since I saw the Bubble Tea sign on the outside as well as by the front area, I ordered the Coffee Caramel Macchiato Bubble Tea while we waited for our meal. The Bubble Tea was made pretty quickly and tasted great. The consistency was more like a smoothie texture than a liquid tea, which was different, but it was still very good. My boyfriend tried some of mine and immediately ordered himself one as well. The food took maybe 15 mins to be brought out which we thought was pretty quick seeing as though it was dinner time. We decided to take the food home to eat it and after taking my first bite, I knew I would be returning ASAP. The Spicy Chicken BBQ was spicy but not unbearable. The white rice that accompanied our meals was seasoned from the meat being placed on top of it and paired so well with everything. The BBQ Chicken was excellent and very juicy! The Bulgogi was delicious. It was very tender and seasoned perfectly, I love that it had a hint of sweetness to it as well. The broccoli was very fresh tasting and wasn't overly cooked. The Korean potatoes were amazing and also had a sweet taste to them which I loved and the kimchi tasted very authentic and wasn't spicy at all. Overall, the Tasty Korean BBQ gets a 10/10 from me! After stopping at ShareTea in Chesapeake, I was trying to figure out where to go while heading back home to VB. Decided on Tasty Korean BBQ since it has been quite a while since I have been here. There is dining inside and table and chairs outside as well. Its not really big inside. There were 2 two-top tables and I believe a four top in the back. There is display of china tea sets that looked so pretty. I ordered for takeout the Mandoo and #7 Spicy BBQ Pork mini with Bean sprouts and Macaroni. I could not wait to eat this when I got home as it smell was so enticing as I was driving home. Mando was good and crispy and that Spicy BBQ Pork was tender and spicy, nice heat but not the kind where you can't enjoy it. People who are sensitive to heat probably will think this is to spicy. There was so much that I could only eat some of it. The bean sprouts and mac were good as always. Those bean sprouts are the bomb. I enjoyed my food and definitely miss coming here. Fantastic chicken. We thought it was a great amount of chicken for one serving too. It's so hot that when you open the take out box steam hits your face. The chicken is perfectly tender and seasoned. Their rice is perfectly cooked just the way I like it and steaming hot. You get 3 sides. We ordered Kimchi, broccoli, and bean sprouts. We were not sure if this is how they always serve the sides but they just come cold out of the fridge. They were tasty but we are not use to cooked cold sides. Kimbap was pretty good. We have just discovered Kimbap. There are a couple of small tables inside. When we dine in the food comes either on paper plates or styrofoam containers more like a to go order. Not a bad thing just letting you know what to expect. Service was fine, more like a fast food restaurant. The only reason I give this a 4 star instead of a 5 is because the bathroom is for staff only. I do not like a restaurant that you can't wash your hands before eating. They have bottles of hand sanitizer instead. I absolutely think every restaurant should have a bathroom. We will absolutely come again. The food was great. read more

I would describe it closer to 'fast food' Korean food, which is not necessarily a bad thing. While there are tables both inside and outside, the place seems more like a grab-and-go kind of spot. The prices are pretty good, especially for the amount of food you will receive. I ordered carry out of fried mandu and BBQ chicken with my choice of 3 veggies: potatoes, kimchi and cucumbers. Fried mandu was good, very evenly fried and golden. It was crispy, wish it had more seasoning. The saltiness came from the soy sauce dip. The BBQ chicken could have benefited from more grilling. It didn't have that nice crispy edges. I'm a little disappointed because Tasty Korean used to be my spot for delicious food. But lately its up in the air. I think they had a change in management because the food taste different. The people who run it are nice but I'm not excited like i used to be. I called in an order for pork belly with mac salad, bean sprouts, and broccoli which was about $18. I understand prices are going up, but the portion size is going down. It was literally like 6 pieces. When i opened my food i saw that i only had macaroni salad and broccoli. When i called the owner told me to bring it back. She tried to make it seem like i made the mistake, but i advised her i order the same thing everytime. I was sure!! So when i went back she took my food behind a little divider where they cook the food and i figured she was adding the bean sprouts. Well to my surprise she took back half the macaroni salad and added the sprouts. I was a little confused because i would have paid for them as extra, but i really think she put the food back in with the macaroni salad she was gonna serve to others. She didn't throw it away.. This was disgusting in my eyes because of covid. Who would do that? She made the mistake why didn't she just leave it? I do not think that was right. I normally don't complain, but it made me question if they've done this before. This was upsetting because this was a favorite place of mine. I don't think I'll return because that was going to far. Hopefully they'll get it together because no one wants to get sick eating out. She didn't know if i touched the food or not. No one should take food back that was given out EVER. I should have updated my review for here long ago! This place is lovely. It's a family run restaurant; there's no dine in right now due to covid. You can call in or place your order at the front. The food is a little simple at first glance, but once you try it, you get hit with all the flavors! The marinated meat and the sauces brushed on are delicious, so are all the sides! The regular sized portions are big, good for 2 people. I haven't tried the mini size, but I feel like it's worth it to get more for just a couple dollars. If you really like any of the sides they also sell small and medium containers of them, that's not on the menu. Ask for the prices. The BBQ chicken is my favorite. The breaded chicken is great too, but never enough dipping sauce. I didn't like the fish last time. I've also had the mandoo soup (is like egg drop with wontons) and kimbap (beef and veg sushi), both of which are good. Food takes minimum of 10 to prepare, so plan accordingly if they are busy or your order a lot. Dine in is very simple (once it reopens, after covid) and there isn't waitress service. It's just tables and chairs. They use Square for the check out, save a receipt and get it texted to you! Parking can be scarce since its between Outback and Shaking Crab, both of which can get fairly busy during peak times, especially outside of covid. read more

Our first time trying this place out and we will definitely be back! We had a meat jun mini, bulgogi mini, tasty special combo, fried mandoo, strawberry bubble tea and taro bubble tea. The beef and chicken was served hot, and was tender and very flavorful that we didn't have to use the extra dipping sauce provided. The sides (we chose kimchi, cucumber kimchi, bean sprouts and potato) was nice and fresh. The bubble tea was ok. The taro was lacking in taste and the boba was still a bit hard. My son enjoyed his strawberry one though, so maybe it was just the flavor choice. Customer service was great. The lady cashier is very sweet and brought our food to us when we sat at the back table. I went with my mom and significant other last night for dinner, and everything about our meal was exquisite! I got the bibimbap (literally the best meal ever), my mom got the bulgogi platter, and my significant other got the bulgogi fried rice (he's a newbie to the Korean food deliciousness). We also got Kimbap to share, and I like theirs the best, because instead of the imitation crab, they just put a little piece of bulgogi in it. The owners were all so so kind & lovely- I wish I could eat there daily!!! The only issue I had was the bibimbop doesn't come with kimchi, so if you're getting that, order a small cup of that on the side to put in. My mouth is literally watering right now as I write this. Oh, also, many of the Korean spots around here are more formal, but this one is a perfect spot to pop in and eat inside or just take it to go. It has been YEARS since I've been here. Maybe 6 or so! Everything was still the same when I recently visited with my son. Since everything is cooked to order, expect a wait. They serve things here that the other popular Korean restaurant does not. There's no ban chan while waiting either, by the way. It's a casual Mom & Pop spot but they're friendly enough and the food is even better. No frills but that's okay, I guess. There's a TV that was playing an info-mercial but I think it should've been a K Drama or Korean channel on. I enjoyed the homemade fried Mandoo and Bulgogi Fried Rice while my son thoroughly enjoyed his tasty special combo platter that included this breaded beef thing that I've never had and bunch of sides. No fountain beverages so you have to choose a bottled drink from the cooler/fridge. If I'm being honest, if it wasn't far from where I live, I would be a regular here especially for take out.
