It was our first time trying this place and they did not disappoint. My husband, son and I went. Everyone was very nice . Our waitress was very nice and attentive. It's buffet style get a bowl feel up with all the different meats and veggies and noodles you like. I added every sauce to my bowl like 2 full scoops of each. Many sauces too choose from They then cook it for you in this circular like grill. It is only one grill and 2 people going in a circular motion. But food was still ready in no time even as they started to become packed. We also got white rice, bread and egg soup and a spicy soup. Everything was very good hot and fresh. It was so good. We went back 2 days later for round two. Will definitely be going back again real soon. This place is a must try. read more

How is this place anything but 5 stars?! Genghis Khan Mongolian Bar-B-Q is SO DELICIOUS! Located right off of Military Highway, this restaurant seems to have been around for a long time, offering some great build-your-own stir-fries! I love that this place focuses on what they are so great at - Mongolian BBQ! There really isn't a 'wrong' way to do this - just grab a bowl, load up on their amazing noodles, add any veggies you like (I usually like the onions, the scallions, maybe a bit of broccoli, and the white mushrooms); you can then add your choice of protein (pork, crab, beef, or chicken) and then ladle any myriad of sauces - the eatery recommends a ladle of each of all their sauces to start off, if you're unsure, as it's a tried and true recipe. I usually stick with the garlic, the ginger, the Mongolian house sauce, sesame oil, and a bit of the chili oil. Don't be afraid, and make sure you experiment to perfect your favorite combination of sauces! Because this is AYCE, you have plenty of opportunities to get it right and to stuff yourself! Some patrons like to double-up, where one bowl is focused on the veggies, and the other bowl full of meat. Even though this place is AYCE, the quality of the offerings was fresh and also refilled often. The chefs here are extremely talented and cook up your items perfectly! Note that your bowl comes piping hot, so beware! In addition, you also receive a complimentary bowl of hot & sour soup or egg drop soup, a bowl of steamed rice (can be enjoyed with your sauced up protein!), and a basket of shaobing (a toasted sesame bread; kind of reminds you of a Chinese version of naan!); all of these were yummy! Our server, Mr. Peter, was SOOO welcoming and amazing - he checked-in on us throughout our dining experience to make sure that everything was great! Thank you! The staff here in general is very kind and sweet! Don't forget to tip the chefs! While it's not too large of a space, the place does get packed to the gills quickly - there seems to be a loyal following, and I'm not surprised! Located in Military Circle (mall) , you really can't beat this place. Cheap price, quick meals, in and out buffet. My go to combo is a spoonful of sugar water, ginger, and Mongolian special with my beef and noods. It does get busy during lunch time due to the rush and construction workers getting lunch there, but they are pretty fast and accomodating. Go go go ! read more

This is the best Mongolian hole in the wall!! First I must say they used there time off at the beginning of covid-19 wisely and got new tables and chairs. Looks good!!! To help in the fight of the spread of covid-19 the supply plastic gloves to use while selecting your food for the Stirfry. Most of the people I noticed didn't use them but I definitely used a pair. Didn't even have to heat it up & it stillll taste amazing just like i remember it tasting when the 2 Mongolian Bbq places were here in hampton! Now hot & sour soup is 1 of my favs & i get it at my local Chinese restaurants and its good HOWEVER for me this place's has always been amazing & the way its supposed to taste!!! We have been frequent and loyal customers for 25 years and Mongolian BBQ has been one of only a handful of regular places we return to more than 2 or 3 times in a year. So we went for my son's birthday, August 2023, and this review will cover it. We had a party of 6 people, ages 14, 16, 22, 24, 50, and 54. We always got the round big booth, but they remodeled the seating and it's gone. So we got a large table, and it was fine. But that old round booth was really comfy. The sweet, nice waitress lady is still the same one we've had literally dozens of times over 25 years. She's still there, and provides excellent service. Always makes me smile when I see her there. We always start with Hot&Sour soups all the way around, and sesame bread. The soup and bread were hot and good and tasty as always. Now, were noticed something the last time we went, and confirmed it again today. Their sauces seemed very diluted and weak. It wasn't a fluke, because it was like that about 6 months ago, too. We've been going there 25 years, we know how we like to prepare our bowls with the sauces we like, for sure. But no matter that we doubled and even tripled the sauces per bowl, that flavor we love just couldn't be had. It was pretty bland, compared to how it's always been. It would be nice to see them upgrade their veges and meat selections like other places have. How about tufu? Rice noodles, string beans, siracha, spicy mayo, shrimp, eggs in the stirfry. Wow. Sauces at the table? I love this place and just don't want to see them outdone and outpaced by other places offering much more choices and variety and interesting things. The cooks need to cook longer, too, that toasty wok scorch adds so much flavor, but they don't do that anymore. It's rush, rush, rush, barely cooked, next.... We are going to give it another try in a few months, but if it's still weak diluted sauces, less than minimal salad and dessert bar, sadly we'll have to find a new regular grill place. This is first time I've been here in years and I got takeout. They still provide noodles and various vegetables and meat selection. The sauces don't seem as flavorful as they did years ago, I used two scoops of each but my dish barely had flavor. I like that they did provide rice and sesame bread with the take out. However I was a little surprised I was charged the all you can eat buffet price for my one takeout dish, If I had known I would have filled my bowl up more. This was the most bland food that I have ever eaten. I loaded the bowl with noodles, zucchini, onions, bean sprouts, carrots with beef and 2 scoops of the garlic, sesame oil and the chili oil. The food is always really good; today was no different. Food was fresh and delicious! My problem is with the cashier. Me and my kiddo came in today with a to go order. After paying and leaving a small tip, I get the notification from my bank a charge had posted, they added an extra $3.84 to the bill. We've stayed pretty loyal to this Mongolian place, but will now venture out. If you eat here, bring a cash tip and double check your receipts before you walk out. read more

My first time at Genghis Khan Mongolian Bar-B-Q was in April of 2021. I learned from the people I was with that this restaurant had been around for years. First impression the restaurant seems somewhat updated within the last 5 years. They do take Covid protocols serious. They are checking everyone's temperatures. We were celebrating a birthday and were able to block off the back half of the restaurant for a large group of 25 people. Since the pandemic it has become hard to find restaurants with private space or willing to block off space for large groups. They served Egg Drop soup and the traditional bread as you would expect at any Mongolian BBQ restaurant. The Mongolian BBQ bar did not have a huge selection. For someone like me who eats only seafood, my only option was imitation crab. I used all the sauces as recommended and even added extra spicy yet my dish tasted very bland. My noodles were kind of hard too. It is not the best Mongolian BBQ. I would not recommend this place to anyone unless they are very hungry, within the area and short on cash. My recommendation for the restaurant is to increase the variety of their selections and improve on how they cook the dishes. One observation I had was the grill seemed to be very old and warped, like one side was sunken down. Possibly the grill needs to be replaced. Maybe that would improve how the BBQ dishes are cooked. read more

I first went here in 2004 while I was in town on vacation. Now that I actually live in Virginia, I finally came back 14 years later. Since that time, I've been to a few more than a few Mongolian BBQs, so my perspective has evolved a little bit. Very little has changed inside since the early 2000's. they've got the pink tablecloths, the Chinese horoscope on each table, same artwork on the walls, same small bar behind the host stand. We were offered hot n sour or egg drop soup, which were included in the price. We were also served a large bowl of white rice and a basket of amazing Mongolian bread. It's oblong shape, crispy on the outside, mostly hollow inside, and coated in sesame seeds. I asked for an extra basket for myself. As for the stir fry line, I didn't remember it being so small. While it has the essential ingredients, it just doesn't have a ton of variety. The one thing that surprised me is that there is not a rice option, only noodles. When I was going to add rice to my bowl, the chef refused to cook it. But anyway, I loaded the bowl with veggies and shaved meats (it's nice that you can pick between chicken breast and chicken leg) and plenty of sauce. The meal was cooked within five minutes. The sauce combination at the bottom did taste kind of heavy and salty. But everything else was really enjoyable. And it was $11 for all we could eat on a weekend. Did I mention my iced tea was included in the price too? So while it excellent value for a good meal, I have had better Mongolian BBQs. But if I'm looking for a cheap meal and loading up, Genghis Khan is a fine option. read more

One of my favorite restaurants to eat...I can't deem to get enough! The food is amazing (when you know how to build your bow l- which I have mastered). I'm glad they finally renovated the inside to reflect the current decade. It is much improved. The servers are always very nice, and do a great job. I took away 1 star b/c I always dread going in the restroom. They really need to invest in a paper towel dispenser and quality handsoap...at the very least. As old as that hand dryer is, I can't imaging the germs & bacteria it would blow out. I always have to use my shirt to wipe my hands and open the door...and there's always a cleaning rag sitting on the side of the sink...Yuck! read more

I was so excited that i would be in walking distance of this place. needless to say with restriction after restriction the opening was delayed. i called each day until someone finally answered. So the day finally came and i went there for lunch. I had to get my food to go because i only get 30 minutes for lunch. Now the only thing that bothered me was i got a price before i went there. When i checked out it was a different price. I love this place and i will be going back. Next time i will be off so i can eat inside and take advantage of the all you can eat. read more

DO NOT COME HERE!! Absolutely HORRIBLE service! I took my family here for the first time and towards the end of the service and after receipt was given he kept harassing my husband about a tip and he hasn't even finished his desert yet. For that my husband gave him a $1 tip for his rudeness and harassment on the tip. Either way he never checked on our table at all to make sure we were taken care of. As we were walking out he came up behind me and was complaining to me about the tip and harassed me out the door about it complaining to all of his staff as well. This was completely absurd!! He followed my family out the door complaining about it! I have 2 young children and a newborn and I have never experienced this before. Wish I never even gave him that dollar!
