I totally did not know a dumpling place opened in Millbrae on this block. My family always goes to the Asian Pearl Restaurant down the street. I'm in love with dumplings and the Northern Chinese food so I was super excited to try The restaurant is small but it's clean and they utilized their space very well. Each table has a condiments set of sauces in these super cute jars. I got the shrimp/pork/chives dumplings and the scrambled egg fried rice with shrimp. You can get the dumplings boiled or pan fried. My boyfriend and I opted for the boiled dumplings and they were delicious. They were super juicy and the filling was flavorful. The scrambled egg fried rice was alright. The portion seemed kind of small but it wasn't bad and I'm sure this isn't one of their best staple dishes. I'm so happy there's more options for dumplings near me. I will definitely be back to try the noodles! And get more dumplings because I can't resist those! read more

This place was surprisingly SO delicious! We came in on a Saturday afternoon for lunch and luckily did not have to wait. I was looking over their extensive menu and it was actually pretty difficult to decide exactly what I wanted. Finally, we opted to get: Pork, shrimp and chives soup dumplings--pretty good without the chives overpowering the taste of the meats. The outer layer was nice and chewy. Cooked to the perfect temperature. Braised beef noodle soup--I was craving a soup dish and this was amazing! The meat was so tender and it was the perfect flavor in every bite with the broth. The noodles were also absolute perfection! So chewy and delicious. Sliced stewed pork elbow--omg YES; this is basically one of my favorite 'Korean' dishes and I was so happy that we got this. I love the texture of each bite and how dipping it into any sauce is still delicious. Beef tendon in chili sauce--I have never really been a fan of tendon but wow, this one was amazing. The thin slices of tendon combined with the chili was just so damn good. I would definitely order this again. Service was attentive and each dish was SO CHEAP. Though I didn't get a chance to see the handmade noodles, I'd have to say that the home feel to this place exists as you enter. And the food matches this as well. I can't go into depth about this place as I was only here briefly for a quick lunch bite. I had Mongolian beef because it's one of my favorite dishes of all time, so I have a lot of comparisons to judge a place. It was not bad at all. Just a tad on the salty side for my taste but maybe not yours. Our table also partook in some dumplings which could satisfy most people's memories of home, I think. Along with a side dish of the House Special salad which has seaweed, tofu strips/noodles, and black ear fungus (name?). It was good too. So if you use their Yelp pictures to assist your ordering, then you can pretty much see what you can expect. And taste-wise I'd say it's a pretty Tasty Place! read more

Some time ago, my wife and I found a hidden gem along El Camino in San Bruno/Millbrae. I finally decided to write a little Yelp review on this "tasty place". First off, parking can be a challenge, but the food at Tasty Place makes up for it. And the name, "Tasty Place" is a spot on name. To begin with, everyone can make fried rice, but for some reason, the fried rice at Tasty Place has really good flavor. Don't ask me what it is, and I make fried rice all the time and mine does not taste this good. On this visit, we ordered the shrimp fried rice, the dry cooked string beans, the Szechuan beef, Dan Dan Mian, and shrimp and pork pan fried dumplings. You can really taste the hand pulled (made in house) noodles in the Dan Dan Mian, and this is my wife's go-to dish at this restaurant. (by the way, my wife usually orders their Dan Dan Mian to go when she does not feel like cooking). All the dumplings here are made in house, and taste "tasty". You can even order frozen dumplings to go -- (for cash only payments). I love and can finish by myself, any of their pan fried dumplings. Their boiled/steamed dumplings are "tasty" as well. The Szechuan beef is a go to dish for us as well, and it does have a slight "kick" to it. We love spicy food, so the chili oil (containers on the tables) add that extra kick that I look for. Service is good, but keep in mind, due to Covid, take out orders have increased, so there might be a slight delay in getting your food. Again, it is worth the wait. As I stated, this restaurant is a hidden gem, we love the food here, and I can't believe it has taken me this long to write a review on this tasty place. Prices -- very reasonable. Uhhh what a terribly strange and disappointing food experience. Had this spot on the list of must-try's for some time now. I do love me some dumplings, after all. But the experience I had here was nothing close to what I would've imagined it to be. To be fair, I was in a bit of a time crunch, needing to get the bud to the airport within a hr and a half. Ordered: fish dumplings (boiled), mixed app (tofu, seaweed, etc), and seafood noodles (changed out the rice noodle for hand-pulled noodles, extra $2). What did we get? A SUPER oily app, with a strangely pungent vinegar taste, that didn't pair well with either the tofu noodles or seaweed. All I could taste was oil and vinegar. As for the dumplings, I bit into it and said to the bud, these have got to be the worst fish dumplings I've ever had. I was so confused. Where was the fish? And then the seafood noodle dish. Zero. Flavor. The hand-pulled noodles were nothing impressive. The seafood was alright, but again, nothing special. The soup? More like water. As we're now in more of a rush to head out, I attempt to get the attention of our original waitress to no avail. The other waitress brings our receipt, and things are looking majorly off. Guess what? She didn't put in fish dumplings for us, it was vegetable dumplings. I told the waitress. She didn't even flinch. She glanced at me and walked away. Okkkkk. A sorry would've been nice. And then there was a random charge for Oolong Tea that we didn't order. She didn't seem to understand that either. Waved down the original waitress, who explained it was the charge for the $2 noodle change. Well, maybe the verbiage on the receipt should reflect that and not tea then, amirite? Told her about the dumplings being incorrect too, and she didn't seem to care either. I mean maybe that $2 charge should've been waved for her mistake. Instead, she walked away. My husband and I were in the area and we've decided to have lunch here because reviews were so good! We were not disappointed. It had a rare combination of pickled seaweed with onions and garlic. It was our absolute favorite! The shredded potatoes got a strong second place because they were uniquely prepared. They were not boiled or anything like that, I think they were pickled too! They tasted like something completely different, these were not the regular potatoes. Randomly went into this restaurant unplanned and with little expectations, but it blew us away. 1. Service is just ok, not bad but nothing great either. Ambiance is ok. This place is indeed very tasty, they are worthy to be called Tasty Place. The place might not look interesting from the front, due to the small and kind of hidden place, but I can assure you that you will leave this place with happy tummy. We ordered the brisket noodle soup and the house special dumplings. The food came out pretty quick and very freshly made. There is a small glass room where you can see the dumplings and noodles being made, guaranteeing the freshness. I really loved the dumplings, both the skin and the filling. Tasty Place for sure! Their name lives up to their food! When I come here I usually order their braised beef noodle and some dumplings. If you are a big eater, the bowl of noodles should be enough for you, however if you aren't a big eater I suggest sharing their beef noodle stew with someone! OR... you can eat half and take the other half home! Just make sure when you to-go it that you place the noodles and the soup in 2 different containers so it doesn't get soggy later. I've tried their dumplings both pan-fried and steamed and they were both delicious but I prefer the pan-fried one but it's all about your preference. Maybe one day you want to get it pan fried and one day you want to get it steamed! I've also had their sliced beef appetizer and it was quite tasty as well. There are a plethora of dining options in this area with specific strengths being Chinese and a few nearby surprisingly strong Japanese options (Gintei). When our first choice's waitlist was closed, we headed here for a selection of freshly made Northern Chinese cuisine. It's a smaller space and was full when we arrived but luckily they were able to accommodate our larger party by combining some tables and bringing extra chairs. The majority of tables fit 4 people and you have a clear view of the staff making fresh dumplings continuously (a la DTF but more casual and only one staff person). The menu features the requisite fresh dumplings available boiled (12 pieces), pan fried (10), or served in soup (10). You also have a broad array of small plate appetizers featuring Sichuan style dishes and noodle soups. The back features the more Americanized fare including fried rice options, vegetables, and deep fried selections like fish or chicken. Prices are very reasonable given the competition in this area. Our order: Chicken and Corn Dumpling - $7.99. Nice boiled dumplings with a good ratio of corn and chicken. Very comparable to Palo Alto's Dumpling City or Redwood City's iDumpling. Pork Shrimp and Chives Dumplings - $8.99. Plentiful ingredients but these dumplings fell apart quite easily. Dipping sauce options are vinegar, soy sauce and chili oil. Sliced Stewed Pork Elbow - $6.99. A nice mix of fatty and lean pork sliced very thinly and with a tasty dipping sauce of soy, sugar, and vinegar. Quite good. Couple's Sliced Beef in Chili Sauce - $6.99. I always order this cold item after having it at Z&Y in San Francisco. This rendition is relatively mild on the spiciness scale with no numbing or mala Chili Oil but it's tasty, refreshing, and a lovely mix of tendon, beef slices, and tripe. Braised Beef Brisket Noodle Soup - $8.99. Why can't anyone do a decent beef noodle soup in the Bay Area. The noodles are great here (I assume fresh) but the soup broth is forgettable and the beef slices too lean with only one or two having any fat. Beef Noodle Soup isn't really a Northern specialty though (save that for Taiwanese food) Zha Jiang Mian - $8.99. Much better. Great fresh noodles. Great ratio of vegetables and mixed and all served warm and perfect for mixing. Delicious. Beef in Pickled Mustard Soup - $8.99. Similar beef as the beef noodle soup but more interesting broth if only for the pickled mustard. I'd skip the soup noodles though next time. Garlic Stir Fried String Beans - $8.99. Could have used a bit stronger flavor but nice wok heat and quality green beans. Tea - $1/person. We were served hot water initially then got cold water and then had to request hot tea. I'd prefer they charge by the pot rather than by person. Overall, we had a good meal here. Food is fresh and tasty and there's enough variety to keep everyone happy. The noodle soups are a bit mediocre but they make up for it on their stronger appetizers. Service is a bit serious and unsmiling but you come for the fast food and good prices! Had lunch here today since I've been hearing such good things about it and it was excellent. Shared multiple things between 3 people and left very full. We had the house special mix salad which had a depth of flavor that was incredible. The chicken and corn dumplings and pork and napa dumplings were both delicious, I preferred the chicken one over the pork. Had braised beef brisket noodle soup, another delicious dish. Would be perfect on a cold winter day, very flavorful broth and yummy noodles. The last dish was the roasted eggplant. I was not expecting a lot from an eggplant dish but the sweet garlic thing it had going on was awesome. Surprisingly my favorite part of all of that was the salad, I can't describe it, I was worried I wouldn't like it by just reading the ingredients, but if I lived closer to Millbrae I would be getting that alone on a weekly basis. Tasty Place is worth a stop for their dumplings, but not for their beef noodle soup. I tried the pork/chives/shrimp dumplings and the beef noodle soup. When you order dumplings, you have a choice between fried or boiled. If you get them fried, you only get 8 pieces instead of 10. I opted for the boiled dumplings because I was worried frying the dumplings would make them dry. I noticed many people in the restaurant also got the boiled dumplings, so it seemed like a safe option. They didn't disappoint! The dumplings were juicy and filled with real, fresh shrimp, chives, and meat. I would 100% come here just for the dumplings. The beef noodle soup on the other hand, I would not order again. This place specializes in hand pulled noodles, but the noodles were no where near as chewy and delicious as QQ noodle in Milpitas and OK noodle in Newark. The noodles here were kind of soft, flavor less, and not that good. The beef noodle soup broth was alright. I can see why many people would find it bland, but I think the noodles were just bland? Thus was our go to place for Chinese, but we have been disappointed the last two orders. Our last wonton soup order had three wontons, and they just sort of fell apart, although the broth was great. 1 star - been here a few times dine in. House special dumplinGs and the house special mix are decent and nice to have . Noodles were not my cup of tea. Why the low rating? The restaurant I believe directly violates California tax laws on their frozen dumplings to go. THEY ILLEGALLY CHARGE TAXES ON FROZEN FOOD. I questioned this, and the manager (Asian lady I think she's the owner) decided to tell me that she can cut me a deal by negating the tax but can not offer the cash deal of buy 3 get 1 free bag free - complete BS. Your restaurant offers a certain cash price, and instead of taxes, you will rescind your restaurants offer? The two are not related nor interchangeable. Shady and unethical business and practice. I decided to not argue with them about the 2 dollars and change tax but will not be returning to support such practice. Alerting others here as well. If the owners are reading, here's a little education for you- an excerpt from California law: Nontaxable sales on: * Sales of cold food products sold in a form that is not suitable for consumption on the premises and not eaten on the premises. Tasty place is indeed tasty. Its one of the gems here in Millbrae/San Bruno. If this is your first time, i would recommend to try either their dumplings or hand cut noodle soup as they are done fresh each day. Their side dishes such as the spicy potato are pretty good to try and its fun to try to explore the menu in subsequent visits. Wish I could come here weekly. We went "full house" and shared House Dumplings and House Noodles. I've not had such tender hot dumplings before! They were fish and chives (though there's a "fish and chives dumpling" - go figure), steamed. So good and freshly steamy hot. The House Noodles were egg noodles with ground pork, peanuts and a few baby bok choy leaves. The spice was flavorful and spicy but the kind that's just on the front of the tongue and doesn't burn the rest of your mouth out. Tammy, our waitress was just adorable and helpful. When I checked in on Yelp and went through the questions about "Is it romantic?" and "intimate" - I think it could be romantic, depending on the noise factor that day and if it seems like an adventure if it's unique for you. Would order General Tao's Chicken (white meat) & eggplant dishes again, both were 4 stars (nice portions; we had lots of leftovers.) She, however, felt less wowed by her bowl of Dan Dan Mien; the chili oil broth was quite watered down & had less flavorful than the color lead her to believe. I am always on the look out for a good bowl of noodles, and the beef noodle soup at Tasty Place was absolutely amazing! We came at around 7:30 pm on a Monday night and there wasn't a line. We were seated at a small table, and they gave us a free cold shredded potato dish with my check-in on Yelp. Once we decided on what we wanted, we ordered a beef noodle soup, pork chive dumplings, and a house noodle. The beef noodle soup came out to be a huge bowl, which was definitely worth the price. The noodles were super fresh and chewy, and the beef flavor was strong yet not too fatty. The beef was also very tender and perfectly seasoned. The boiled dumplings were also some of the best I've had in the bay. The dumpling skins were thin, and the filling was just the right amount, with a strong, fragrant aroma of chives. I had a bite of my friend's house noodles, and though it looked like a flaming bowl of soup with a lot of chili oil, it wasn't spicy at all--don't let the smell of sichuan peppercorns fool you! You can find authentic Chinese food here! I'm giving this place 5 stars because this place is very generous with their serving sizes and the food is very authentic. I came here with my friend from mainland China, and she said every single dish had authentic Chinese flavor - even the beef chow mein which is normally pretty Americanized in other restaurants. The couples sliced beef tastes amazing - the little slices of onion and little pieces of peanuts adds a really nice crunch and much needed contrast in texture against the tenderness of the beef and tendon. I tried pork elbow for the first time and the way they smoked it was very skillful. The sauce accompaniment they could literally bottle and sell on its own - it's SO GOOD. Make sure you check in to get a free side of sliced potatoes! The restaurant is small and very typically Chinese in its decor. You can literally see the employees make and fold their dumplings here so you know it's fresh. I will definitely be back! I recommend getting at least one side dish to accompany your main dish! If I was rating on just food, tasty place would probably get 4 stars but their server was a bit rude about tipping. We came by late Sunday night for dinner and there were no other customers. It was about 40 min before closing time. The three of us ordered pan fried pork, shrimp, and chive dumplings, eggplant with minced pork, coupled beef, and tofu with wood ear. We also checked in to get the free shredded potato side. The potato was nice and they give you quite a lot for a free dish. The marinade was a little sweet and a little spicy. The dumplings were juicy and were pan fried perfectly to give you just enough crunch. The eggplant with minced pork was not what I expected in terms of how it looked but it tasted great, especially over white rice. They cut the eggplant into long strips and bathed it in this savory and slightly spicy sauce with fresh garlic bits and tender minced pork. The coupled beef flavor was off or at least not what I'm used to. It had a burnt peanut undertone and not that numbing spice that you usually associate with this dish.
