Overall, I thought the food was solid and I would return to try different items. Pork and Shrimp Dumplings - These had really good flavor, but the dumpling skin was kind of thick, which made the dumpling itself a little tough. Green Beans - I would skip on a return visit, because they didn't taste like much of anything. Veggie Baos - These were my favorite of the evening. The spinach hit sweet and savory notes and the bread was pillow soft. I was also impressed by the ginger vinegar and garlic sauces left on the table. This used to be another restaurant and just like the previous one, the restaurant needs to figure out what kind of restaurant it wants to be. Right now it has several shanghainese dishes such as Shengjian bao and Xiao long bao. It also has some noodle and dumpling dishes from Northern China and then it has some boba tea snacks such as popcorn chicken and grilled squid. From the Chinese name (it means maternal grandmother's house), it's probably originally trying to be a shanghainese cuisine and if so I'd suggest focusing on that. Many of the dishes are out of stock which is weird for a restaurant but I came here mostly to try out the Shengjian bao which is one of my favorite shanghainese dish. I typically have to drive to Fremont for decent Shengjian bao and I'm glad this restaurant serves it even though it did some details wrong. The bun dough is properly missed but the buns should be properly made (the shapes are somewhat messed up). The frying/grilling is uneven on the bottom and my biggest complaint would be not marinating the meat with soy sauce. The broth inside the buns should be clear broth not colored (too dark). However even with all the faults it's not bad and just because it allows me to have something to eat without driving to Fremont so I'm giving this place 4 stars just because of that. read more

Passed by this new restaurant and decided to give it a try. The very first thing I noticed when I walked in was how SLIPPERY the floors were. I almost slipped, and while I was there I watched another customer slip and fall. Thankfully she got up and said she was okay, but this is a MAJOR safety hazard. They should put down runner mats to prevent future accidents. It was concerning that staff didn't verbally warn customers either... As for the food, it was pretty disappointing. The chow mein was overly sweet and not traditional Shanghainese style at all. On top of that, you have to pay extra for protein (+$4 for shrimp or +$3 for chicken) otherwise it's just noodles and vegetables. The steamed dumplings had skins that were much thicker than usual, and the grilled squid was drenched in sweet chili sauce. I wasn't expecting that at all and would've preferred the sauce on the side because it was overly sweet. Overall, the safety issues and food quality left a bad impression. Saw Dumpling Delight has taken over the spot previously occupied by Tasty Place. We visited around 11 a.m. on a Saturday and were seated right away. Paper menus were available, though there was also an option to order by scanning a QR code. We tried the following dishes: Popcorn Chicken - Unfortunately bland. Curry Fishball - Decent, but noticeably on the sweet side. Grilled Squid - We expected simple grilled squid, but it came topped with a sweet chili sauce. It was fine, but not something we'd order again. Scallion Pancakes - Lacked strong scallion flavor and were quite soggy, likely due to excess oil. Steamed Leek & Pork Dumplings - The wrapper was thick and seemed undercooked at the top. The filling tasted alright but leaned sweet. Pan-Fried Pork Buns - Appeared to use the same filling as the leek & pork dumplings. These were more like fully fried buns than true pan-fried ones. We usually go to My dumpling in San Mateo downtown for dumplings; this is our first time trying here and the food is decent. We only tried a couple of dishes but overall we will come back to try more dishes next time. Perhaps we won't need to drive all the way to San Mateo afterwards! I would give 4 stars for the same quality of food but since it's a new business I'd like to give it a boost for better visibility until later. read more

In terms of service it's pretty diabolical to not give chopsticks or a spoon, we were given no utensils at all, no napkins, and no dipping sauce for our delivery order today. The dumplings and buns are, in fact, a delight. The BBQ Pork Buns were especially good!

We went for lunch, and unfortunately this will be our first and last visit. The waitress looked stern the entire time--not just with us, but with other customers as well. I don't expect exceptional service from a Chinese restaurant, but her expression was noticeably unpleasant. The food was also disappointing. The deep-fried bun arrived burnt. The Xiaolongbao had unusually thick skin and a bland filling. We also ordered the bamboo and mushroom bun, which was clearly not freshly made--you could see the original manufacturing imprints on the bottom, which didn't match the steamer paper used by the restaurant. They claim everything is handmade, but that's definitely not true for this bun. Overall, the experience was not worth returning for. Very disappointing. read more

Stopped in for lunch. There were a few tables occupied when we arrived. We sat ourselves to table. They brought out place servings and water. This place has QR code to scan to order. We ordered popcorn chicken, green onion pancake, pork and leek dumplings, pan fried dumpling, Shanghai noodles, black garlic ramen, bunny custard bun, taro bun, pork xaio long bao and beef roll. Beef roll tasted good, but in my opinion the wrapper was a little thick making it chewy. Pork and leek dumplings were delicious. Popcorn was good and large portion to boot. Green onion pancake looked good, I didn't try but my kid loved it. Shanghai noodles was good, had wok hey. Bunny bun was cute and tasted great, another item my kid liked. Taro bun was also very good. Pork soup dumpling, soup was delicious. Pan fried dumpling also had good amount of soup and was yummy. Ramen was ok, not bad but ramen shops are better. Overall good food, my kid liked it and he's very picky. My mom also thought it was very good so it's good for older Chinese too. read more

Tried the Xiao long bao, regular and crab, scallion cakes, stir fried rice noodles, leek and pork dumplings, and wonton in chili oil to name a few. The food was very delicious and nicely flavored. Reminds me of dumpling I've had in Hong Kong. Great service, reasonably priced. Will definitely come back. read more
