Saw Dumpling Delight has taken over the spot previously occupied by Tasty Place. We visited around 11 a.m. on a Saturday and were seated right away. Paper menus were available, though there was also an option to order by scanning a QR code. We tried the following dishes: Popcorn Chicken - Unfortunately bland. Curry Fishball - Decent, but noticeably on the sweet side. Grilled Squid - We expected simple grilled squid, but it came topped with a sweet chili sauce. It was fine, but not something we'd order again. Scallion Pancakes - Lacked strong scallion flavor and were quite soggy, likely due to excess oil. Steamed Leek & Pork Dumplings - The wrapper was thick and seemed undercooked at the top. The filling tasted alright but leaned sweet. Pan-Fried Pork Buns - Appeared to use the same filling as the leek & pork dumplings. These were more like fully fried buns than true pan-fried ones. Overall, we weren't impressed and don't plan to return.

We usually go to My dumpling in San Mateo downtown for dumplings; this is our first time trying here and the food is decent. We only tried a couple of dishes but overall we will come back to try more dishes next time. Perhaps we won't need to drive all the way to San Mateo afterwards! I would give 4 stars for the same quality of food but since it's a new business I'd like to give it a boost for better visibility until later.

Food is delectable. Pork xiao long bao was delicious and juicy -- I would order again. In terms of service it's pretty diabolical to not give chopsticks or a spoon, we were given no utensils at all, no napkins, and no dipping sauce for our delivery order today. Otherwise would give five stars.

    burnt pan fried bun!

We went for lunch, and unfortunately this will be our first and last visit. The waitress looked stern the entire time--not just with us, but with other customers as well. I don't expect exceptional service from a Chinese restaurant, but her expression was noticeably unpleasant. The food was also disappointing. The deep-fried bun arrived burnt. The Xiaolongbao had unusually thick skin and a bland filling. We also ordered the bamboo and mushroom bun, which was clearly not freshly made--you could see the original manufacturing imprints on the bottom, which didn't match the steamer paper used by the restaurant. They claim everything is handmade, but that's definitely not true for this bun. Overall, the experience was not worth returning for. Very disappointing.

The dumplings and buns are, in fact, a delight. The BBQ Pork Buns were especially good!

My gauge is comparing it to Rooster and Rice (or What The Cluck) which is no longer available in the area. We did take out and ordered online. I wasn't sure what to expect. 1) Pork knuckle soup - the hubby raved about it and enjoyed it, saying it was very tasty. 2) cucumber salad - the grand kids love their cucumber salad - thank goodness we ordered a side of it since they finished what was in the hainan chicken special plate 3) Hainan chicken over rice was smooth and tasty. It came with cucumber and wood ear mushroom at least 8 pieces of chicken, fungus salad, some peanuts, one small egg roll, green onion paste and tasty rice cooked in some chicken stock/fat. It also included a small bowl of soup. It was all great in our opinion. When you order online - you get a text message that your order is confirmed. Then you'll get a 2nd text message that it's being prepared and a final text that it's ready for pick up. I scheduled a 5:30 pick up and it was readty at 5:15. When I went to, pick up the order, I can see there were many other orders ready for pick up. The restaurant is small and at a glance looked like maybe 10+.tables. If you join the rewards program, you can earn reward points toward food. So if you plan to eat or order online more than once, might as well join their reward program. I joined - why not? -and I immediately saw that I earned points from our dinner. I would actually give it a 4.5.

Dishes we tried: 1 The Hainan Chicken Rice Plate - surprised? It is served slightly chilled and has the signature gelatinous skin. Something was lacking in the flavor, even combined with the ginger scallion oil included. It wasn't bad but not stellar. 3/5 2 Braised Beef Brisket and Tendon Over Rice - nice balanced flavor; briskets were soft and tendons had the perfect texture. 4/5 3 Spicy Pork Ear - heavy on the peppercorns, otherwise it would have been great. 3/5 They close early at 8pm so need to plan for an early/regular dinner. A number of people stopped by after 8pm expecting to be seated thinking 9pm is closing. Street parking is usually reasonable to find with nonmetered street parking or a couple blocks into residential neighborhood. Will come back one more time to try different dishes if we're in the neighborhood.

Customary at most Vietnamese restaurants, you get your food with minimal check ins and not even a plate clearing until the bill comes. This was NOT the case here. There service was definitely in the A/A+ range! I ordered on my phone via QR code, but there was an option to order in person from a server. I ordered many items to try out. I ordered spring rolls, crispy salt and pepper wings, grilled pork banh mi, beef dac beit pho, and a Thai iced tea. Thai Iced Tea was pretty good. Grade: A I thought the Spring Rolls were decent, but what made them even better was the peanut sauce! I always hate when the peanut sauce is watery and this was far from that! An excellent gooey peanut sauce and maybe one of the best I've had fpr consistency. Grade: A- Crispy salt and pepper wings definitely had an incredible crunch. They were up there in crunchiness. The drumettes were meaty which I appreciated. They were well seasoned also. I think I need to try their other wings before crowning these, but some of the cruncheist wings I've had for sure. Grade: A- Beef Dac Biet Pho had some real high quality meat in it. I had options in noodle and my go-to for any pho spot is the egg noodles. I wish it had more bo vien in it, but I appreciated the combo of meats. The broth seemed authentic, but I wanted a tad more flavor out of it without adding sauces. Overall, the pho grade was a B+ bordering an A-. The star of the show was the grilled pork banh mi. The meat was tender and saucy. In fairness I asked for extra pickles and mayo, but I was very impressed. The bread had the crispy crunch we all look for but minus the stale bread. The breads soft yet crispness made it seem as if it just came out of the oven! I'm going to dub this as the best I've had in the Bay Area! There I said it! Grade: A+ Everyone who ordered the sampler seemed very pleased at other tables, I would definitely try that. Also, want to try the other banh mis and noodle options for the pho. There was a nice vibe at this place. I didn't feel rushed although they do close fairly early at 8pm. The server's mom is the one cooking in the kitchen and I appreciated the family feeling at this place. They do have a newer location in San Francisco that has a DJ Friday nights that I may check out. I believe the server said that they are open til 2am on most nights, but I may have misheard her. Feel free to Yelp that location. My only disappointment was that I really love papaya salad and it was not an option. I may make this my go-to spot from now on, but as a Yelper, we all know we will keep trying new places. This will be the one I continue to frequent. Well done Pho de Nguyen!

We can't really complain, but it also wasn't memorable enough for us to come back. The broth was decent, but if you're a pho lover, you know the broth is what makes or breaks the experience and this one just didn't stand out. After lunch we went grocery shopping, and that's when things took a turn. My husband suddenly started sweating, and my stomach began making all kinds of unhappy noises. We hadn't eaten anything else that day, so we suspect something from the meal didn't sit well with either of us. That said, we can't say for certain that the restaurant was the cause. The restaurant itself looked clean, and the service was perfectly fine. Unfortunately, between the average broth and how we both felt afterward, it's just not a place we'll be returning to.

The first thing I noticed was that there was really not many pieces of ribs, maybe they made the ribs portion smaller to make room for the lap cheung I ordered? The dish description also says that it includes taro, but I didn't have a single piece of taro in my pot. Strangely, although this place seems to share a kitchen with Social Eatery, the rice was cooked much more poorly here, which is obviously a shame for a place specializing in clay pot rice. It seems like the rice had too much water added, so it was a bit overcooked - you couldn't feel the "single grain" mouthfeel texture you should expect from well-cooked, high quality rice. Since the rice was too mushy, it obviously didn't crisp well either. Though it had some small amount of bits stuck to the edges of the metal (not clay!) pot, it was definitely not the super crispy, well browned "faan ziu" I expect, and not at all like the pictures featured in some earlier reviews of this restaurant.
