This is the worst food. If you want to waste your money, go there. The people are very rude; they handed me a completely wrong order. When I pointed it out, they yelled at me they even yelled at my family and threw the food at me. It is the worst place, and the food is of very poor quality. I think I would prefer to eat almost anywhere else. On top of that, the people there are incredibly racist. I heard them say, "Oh, look, that old man is back again with his coins." We ordered food from Tasty Sub (not having checked out reviews ahead of time) for our first and last time. The shrimp in my 20-piece basket were overdone and tasteless. I am not sure what the dipping sauce was, but I doubt it was cocktail sauce, although it was the only thing that provided any flavor. And the fries were bland, not even a hint of salt. read more

The times I find myself visiting Tasty Sub is when I am very hungry in the late-evening hours prior to my work shift. The affordable, yet filling specials are hard to pass up when there is nothing else available on Howard Street that is open near and after mid-night. Tasty Sub is a grimy looking, tailor-made to the ghetto sandwich place with no restrooms, seats or tables inside, yet there are prize, tattoo, gumball machines and trash receptacles instead. Reasons behind that I'am not aware of, but it makes the restaurant designed solely for takeout purposes instead of dine-in enjoyment. Most of the times I visit, I tend to encounter the regulars who are seemingly drunk or high who give the employees behind the glass a hard time in a good way. As for the foods, the selections to choose from are a variety of submarine sandwiches, italian beef, gyro, burger & hot sandwiches, pizza puff, hot dogs & polish, chicken, seafood, and fish. And as I share this review, I have visited and ordered here on three separate occasions with one ordering the chicken nuggets, another ordering a beef hot dog, and another ordering a pizza puff which each costing no more than $5 w/ fries and canned soda. As for parking your only option is either neighborhood or street metered parking which can be limited at times. And on the topic of parking, I absolutely do not recommend parking in the Popeyes parking lot because your vehicle is liable to get towed or booted! And trust me there is someone onsite that will make that happen. If you are ever strolling down Howard Street on a late-evening or live in the area and looking to pick up takeout near or after mid-night, Tasty Sub is your place. Thomas G read more

Coming from the Dr office today 3/13/23, my friend and I needed to eat. We've been driving by Tasty Sub for a while now and My friend's usual spot is on Morse. We both decided to stop and try Tasty as some of the pics looked pretty good. Wow! So awesome wee stopped he got a double fish sandwich & I a gorgeous wet beef with mozzarella!! They both came with fries, and a drink - that's the "meal". Soooo delicious blows our usual place outta the water!! We are 66 & 57 love great food, Tasty Sub has great food! Great food cooked to order. I prefer the chicken to their other options but their patty melt and beef sandwiches are good options. Their mild sauce is more like a homemade ketchup but delicious anyways. If you want some fast food or deli sandwiches this is your place. Can't go wrong with the classic pizza puff! This place deserves the reviews it has. Honestly. When you walk in, you're greeted by a glass window with unfriendly employees. Signs everywhere that encourage patrons to get out as soon as possible. Films of dirt and dust everywhere. Just not a good place visually. BUT a lot of times those are the best places to eat and that's what I told myself when I walked in. I tried really not to judge off first impressions but...lord. I ordered a Philly cheesesteak. Mediocre at best. Didn't finish the second half. Not impressed whatsoever. Tasty sub is not the cleanest restaurant I even eaten at not is it in the best area. Although that was said, the people who run the place are really cool to deal with and you can't beat the price for the amount of food you get. All items come with fries that they will smother in hot sauce or any kind of sauce upon request and a car of soda. With a huge selection of items to choose from you can't really go wrong. I always end up getting a 7 piece cheese stick and a 6 piece chicken meal. It's is always to much to handle and I end up saving half for the next day. For just over ten dollars I feel that isn't to bad if a deal.. They do accept credit card but with a ten dollars minimum. Not dine in only take out with no delivery. So, how your Italian beef tastes can say a lot about your business. The Italian beef here was sub par; it really lacked flavor. It had everything else going for it, but the meat just failed my taste buds. They offer good size portions for the price, which one of the couple reasons I allotted them 3 stars. I was visiting a friend in the area and wanted to treat him to a meal. I am not a big fan of fast food but wanted something quick and convenient so we decided to try this place. We walk into the place and notice two men behind the counter. My friend walked to the counter as I walked to read the menu. I heard my friend teling the one of the men to "give us a minute while my friend decides what he would like to have". I figured out what I was going to order, then asked my friend if he knew what he was having he replied I'll have whatever you're havign. I walked to the counter. the guy at the register never acknowledged(after standing there for at least 15 seconds, so I asked if he were taking orders. The guy at the register replied in a very rude manner "what do you think I'm her for" or something to that extent. I replied "what is your problem? I'm here to patronize your establishment and that's your response. I should have known due to the bullet-proof counter. He obviously have no respect for most of the people they serve in these communites. I had a few choice words for the guy and this guy sticks his middle finger up to me. I couldn't believe it. One of the most rude, cowardly, and disrespectful thing you could do or say to someone attempting spending their hard earned money with you. I live in the neighborhood and have driven past Tasty Sub hundreds, maybe thousands of times. It's one of those places that looks like it belongs in a much rougher neighborhood, including the bullet proof glass. Driving past, I've always wondered if it's one of those hidden gems that looks bad, but the food is actually decent. It's not. Walking inside, the floor and walls are dirty. There are very faded out signs with pictures of the different sandwiches they offer. They have a sign that says something like Carry out only, don't stay. The man at the counter was very polite. I bought the 12 inch Assorted Sub which came with fries and a can of soda for $8.50 including tax. The assorted refers to what looked like extremely processed turkey, maybe ham, not sure and a processed American type cheese. I ordered it with everything, which was mayo, lettuce, tomato and onion. It wasn't completely awful, but I was really hungry and only ate a third of it. The fries were OK. The sub reminded me of something served in a high school cafeteria. I have tried the Captain Nemo's sub place in the neighborhood and that was more like 3 to 3.5 stars. I know this is going to sound snobby and elitist, but I really wonder if anyone will ever read this review. I get the impression that the vast majority of people who would go to Tasty Sub probably don't own or use computers, or know that YELP even exists. Definitely only come here if you are out of money,options, or need something late night DRUNK. I've only been here a handful of times, but thats with reason. The best thing they offer is their mild fries. Fries are usually pretty fresh. The exterior and interior will throw you off since its not really the cleaniest of places to frequent. The staff are RUDE, hate having to deal with them since they act like helping their customers is the worst thing on the planet, but they're pretty convienent since they are open until 4am. I haven't really attempted to try much here, seems like one of those places you stick with what you know. Mozzarella sticks are pretty good and fresh. Never do the hot dog, yuck. Never again. The people who rate this place two stars on the basis of cleanliness and healthiness are literal idiots. Seriously. You can tell by the name you're not going to get a gluten free kale wrap from here nor will you experience a sit down expensive meal with a violinist playing next to you. Sooooooo that's that. Tasty is your neighborhood "hood food" (I'm half black I can say that, ha). The mild sauce is great, the fries are crispy, the burgers are huge and if you're polite to the owners they're polite to you (Because we're human and all get annoyed with each other). You're not paying $50 dollars for a burger so expect noone to kiss your ass when you decide you want to be picky because you were not clear about how you wanted your food in the first place. Personally I love Tasty. Food is delicious and super convenient (they're open til 4AM for heaven's sake). However keep in mind if you're not used to the kind of food served you're inclined to not like Tasty. As stated above it's hood food. Is this healthy? No. But it makes up for it with tasty food in large portions and a very big menu. Each item on the menu comes with fries and a can of soda. While the fries are somewhat bland and could use some salt, all the main entries are delicious. The Hotdogs are piled high, the Italian Beef is dripping with juice, and the Gyros are so filled that its hard to fit it in your mouth! My mother tried the Gyro meal, which came with two pitas and a pile of gyro meat and toppings, and even after both pitas were used she had extra meat. Trust me, you will not go hungry eating here. Heck, the Fries and Soda even comes with the 2 dollar Pizza Puff! Bottom Line: If you want a lot of food that's both tasty and cheap, come here. I have gone here twice and my complaint is not about the taste of the food but about the people who work there. They always just give you what they want. I ordered 1 pizza puff which on their sign says it costs $2.72 and I ordered a whopper style burger which is $5.09 and comes with a free pop and fries. I am thinking this is what I will be charged for so I hand him my debit card. The man tells me my food is ready and asks me what kinds of Pops do I want. I said 7up and then he tells me "and the other one?" I was confused and I said "what did you charge me for?" He refused to tell me so then I proceed to tell him I only ordered one meal and one pizza puff. He said "yeah that's okay it's only a .50 cent difference" but when I get home I check my account he charged me $10.25 !!! I called them and I explained that I was over charged. The first man that answered hung up on me when I started complaining. I called again and explain to that man that I was definitely over charged. The man proceeds to tell me "but I gave you double fries" I said "I don't care I didn't order a pizza puff meal, just a single pizza puff" He still refuses to return my money and instead tells me he will give me a discount next time I come in.
