Mais con hielo (left) + halo-halo (right).
    Jeff Y.

Was craving shaved ice for dessert after dinner in Torrance, so decided to check out Tasty Block Hawaiian Shave Ice. Parking was easy in the lot but there were no tables for dining in, so we ate in our car. Since there is definitely space in the store, it would have been nice to have one or two tables or chairs to enjoy the shaved ice for people who live farther away, since the ice desserts melt quickly. The interior was very Hawaii themed and I loved the ice cube block sticking out from the wall. Service was friendly but there were mistakes with our order of halo-halo and mais con hielo. When we went to pickup for some reason my halo-halo was "no beans" and the mais con hielo came with vanilla ice cream instead of the mango we ordered. They remade the halo halo and apologized, but I genuinely wonder if our order was either inputted incorrectly or mixed up with someone else. I love that there was a choice of mango ice cream for the halo-halo as ube ice cream is not my favorite. The halo-halo was decent, as well as the mais con hielo. I was in the mood for more than syrup and ice which is why I did not order the Hawaiian shaved ice, but maybe next time I'll try their namesake item since the flavors looked yummy. Prices were medium for the portion, $5-10 each.

They have really good shaved ice! They have a large amount of flavors to add. They also have really good portions! Large is 32 oz. Regular is a 16 oz. and small is 12 oz. The people are friendly there as well. I love this place

My roommate was craving a halo-halo. We checked a SoCal Filipino social media group spot, and this place was recommended. AMBIANCE: Parking: Plaza parking; it's lowkey limited, so just a heads up. Seating: Limited seating. Basically a bench for maybe 4 cars. Vibes: You're off the Carson strip but it's a busy and neighborly place. The spot itself takes pride in their various selections and flavors of food. It has some fun aesthetics to set a calm and fun tone. Not much seating space so it's great to grab and go and continue out your daily adventure FOOD: Halo halo - mango/ube ice cream (Recommend) I was indecisive of picking between the two ice creams so I got half and half. I enjoyed the mix of shaved ice, condensed milk, jelly, coconut, ube jam, beans, and cornflakes. Not too sweet but pretty delicious. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Great people. They were friendly and quick with our order. TL; DR OVERALL: 4.5 Stars. Awesome! Great prices, wide selections, and delicious desserts. Carson is lucky to have a spot like this. The flavors from their ice cream and shaved ice really do remind me of Hawaii. TIPS: * Portions can be pretty generous, especially the acai bowl. Get ready to split.

I'm going out on a limb here by declaring this as MAINLAND HAWAII !!! I can't think of any other place I've been who has made SHAVE ICE as good as here that wasn't in Hawaii. So, rather than spend hundreds of dollars on airfair, lodging and transportation to get Shave Ice.... I can drive here locally and get that same ALOHA MAHOLO spirit and experience right in the South Bay Beach Cities area of So Cal. Yes... they also have GRAPE syrup flavor, which is my favorite. It's easy parking and fast service. I think they'd do well with another store in Torrance or Gardena (a bit closer to me for my convenience)... or even in the Beach Cities of Redondo, Hermosa or Manhattan along the strand, if they were ever to expand or relocate.

This is definitely a genuine Hawaiian shaved ice place. Nothing says authentic like lifted 'Yotas in the lot and a kid working at the front. The flavors were exactly as I've found on Hawai'i. We ordered lychee, mango, and pineapple Hawai'ian shaved ice with vanilla ice cream and topped with sweetened condensed milk. For a regular (which should be classified as a large) was $9.50 and almost too big for two adults. It was very sweet and melted quite quickly. Couldn't exactly taste the lychee or sweetened condensed milk but the mango and pineapple were strong flavors. Ice cream was a great balance. Summary: genuine, family-owned Hawai'ian shaved ice that has huge portions and is perfect for a hot summer day!

In a small plaza with parking Takes credit card Pineapple ice cream regular $5, large $7. Dole whip float $8- taste like Disneyland. maybe a little more tart. Halo Halo with ube ice cream or mango ice cream $8- there's a lot of ice, not that much filling, condensed milk. I wish there was more condensed milk, and more ice cream.

Aloha! I love Hawaii and sure am looking forward to visiting once again in the future. It's been quite hot in LA lately and when I saw some lovely pictures on Instagram featuring Tastyblock Hawaiian; I knew I had to check this place out. If I can't go to Hawaii; why not get a taste of Hawaii on a perfectly hot day in California? :) One of things I noticed is the treats here consist of a mix of Filipino and Hawaiian. From the Filipino side; they offer Halo Halo (a Filipino shaved ice) as well as Mais Con Yelo (a Filipino sweet corn shaved ice). From the Hawaiian side; they offer Lappert's Hawaii Ice Cream as well as Dole Whip. One can get scoops of ice cream or different shaved ice here. My mom and I chose to get the Halo halo and Dole Whip. Both were $8. The Dole Whip comes at different price points starting with a regular for $6 and ending at $8 for a Dole Whip Float. I have to say I was a little bit surprised at the prices and did think $8 was a bit on the high end for both. This location is a bit away from other places that have similar offerings and thus I think this is why the slightly steep prices. They currently don't have anywhere to dine in but there is a bench outside where you can eat your treats. They are also practice social distancing. They ask that you go outside to wait for your order and they give you a pager once your order is ready. My mom's Halo Halo was topped with Ube ice cream while my dole whip had plenty of pineapple ice cream. Both were pretty refreshing and were a nice treat for a hot day. Overall both of our treats were good and did give a nice taste of Hawaii in California. Nothing beats Hawaii though ;).

Friendly staffs, good service. Place well kept clean. Lots of flavors for the shave ice. I always come here to get my halo halo & mais con yelo fix.

This place is so cool and the shaved ice is perfect. We have been trying to find something local so glad this is close by. They have different flavors to choose from plus they also have different flavors of ice cream to add to your shaved ice. I ended up trying the Grape, Hawaiian Punch, and Green Apple in mine and it was delicious. I forgot to put ice cream so that will have to be next time. I added condensed milk also and that topped it off. The portions they give are unbelievable. Also, for the price. Definitely, a bang for your buck. Since they are so close, we will be back and may be visiting all of summer.

Good shaved ice with ice cream. And friendly service. Felt a little pricy but I did get add ons. Wasn't my favorite in SoCal and I've had better in Hawaii. But maybe I need to try different flavors next time. Passion fruit/lychee/guava with pineapple dole, condensed milk on top: good, regular cup was big enough for 2-3 people. Favorite part is the dole ice cream. They seemed to have good unique ice cream flavors. Next time I would consider adding fruits as well. Service: when I asked for an extra cup, they were super helpful. It wasn't busy in the middle of the day in weekday so service was fast. Parking: easy in plaza, but the road is uneven.

I been craving Hawaiian Ice for a while now so I thought I'll take a drive here. It was my first time here at Tasty Block. The shave ice is so delicious. I the ice is so soft and the flavors are so delicious. Not too sweet or sour just right! I highly recommend. I will be coming back. The service was great and the ambience is cute.

This second time was also very stuffy inside. Like, I am really unsure if they pay for AC inside or not. This second time that I had visited was more recent where I had ordered the Hawaiian Paradise tea with golden honey boba. I actually really did enjoy this refresher iced tea. It was not half bad and included a slice of orange inside. The honey boba was very soft and easy to chew. I enjoyed how refreshing it was as it was what I was craving. I also had ordered a banana pudding latte that was horrid. Foam was amazing. The actual coffee was so bad. Like, actually. I threw it away. I did not bother to even ask for a remake. It tasted so burnt. Like the most burnt coffee bean taste ever. I do not know what happened there, but it was a very big disappointment. Ordered 2 churros, they were good. Nothing crazy, just something that helped curve the horrible taste from the burnt coffee. You don't interact with the workers, so service I can not comment on. They have a restroom. Parking is in the plaza in front, which is shared with a few other businesses, the major one being Ralph's. You can order on a large screen and tap to pay on it as well. I highly recommend drinking these without the straw. Foam top drinks are best appreciated when you get a nice 50:50 ratio of the foam and drink. Banana Matcha Latte - the name speaks for itself. It's a nice mixture of both. So if you're looking to feel a little healthier with the matcha element, then go for it. This was probably the prettiest drink of the 3 that we had. Americano - delicious and got the job done here. I naturally enjoy Ethiopian and Colombian beans. I brew them often at home. I was definitely wide awake after these drinks lol Strawberrynana Waffle - If you LOVE belgian-style waffles like me, then you'll find yourself ordering this again and again. It wasn't too sweet but sweet enough to easily go through 2 or 3 of these plates if you're crazy enough. Banana Walnut Honey Bread - the best for last! I really loved eating brick toast growing up. There were so many stores back in the day that sold them, and now I can't find them as easily. In fact, Caffe Bene is the only place in the South Bay that I know that sells them. This one brought me back to the past and put a gigantic smile on my face. Delicious, perfectly sweet, balanced, and finished wanting more. Highly recommend!

I loved the fact that the place was very spacious and had lot of sitting area. Our drinks came out…read morepretty quickly. Misugaru latte was little bit too sweet. Next time I'll ask them to make it with less sugar and extra misugaru.
