Tried to make an appointment with AJ for some finger script tattoos (3 words, 10 letters total). She said she wouldn't put script on the finger and that I needed to find a different spot for the tattoo...she also needed me to make a consultation appointment first...for a tattoo that would take 15 min? An hour, in -n- out at the tattoo shop was such a great experience, especially for my first tattoo. I was hoping to get John because his Instagram full of amazing tattoos but I couldn't find him there. However, another nice guy was available to help me with it. It was just 2 letters tattoo but the guy was very patient and helpful at helping me finding the font and size I wanted. After finishing up with my tattoo, he gave me a great instruction even discount for the original price. He asked me to come back in 4 weeks so he could give it couple more touch-ups for free. I was deeply disappointed with the results and the experience for my first time there. My tattoo was thicker than intended, a weird indents on few of the letters, not complete shading, and shading over the lines on my flower was poorly done. I hope they can greatly improve their basic skills on every single category to becoming a tattoo artist than what they thought before. read more

I went in last Sunday for a tattoo of a design some of my friends back home in California and I were getting as kind of a group memento type of thing. I called ahead to ask about artist availability and the like, and the gentleman who answered the phone was polite and cordial. I've been to four different tattoo shops (this one included), and half of the time they have a bit of an attitude - not so with Tattoo 42, which was refreshing! I arrived later that day to get my tattoo started. Doug and John were friendly, casual, and made me feel very welcome to the shop. The shop itself is clean, well set up, and I felt very comfortable getting a tattoo done there. John was my artist, and he was awesome - his work is high quality and he is also very efficient. He's also genuinely nice guy that will make you feel very comfortable, whether it is your first tattoo or you've lost count! All in all, very happy with Tattoo 42. I had an okay experance, they kept wanting to change my tattoo andni kept refusing but somehow I came out with it bigger, than I wanted and it doesn't look at all as I wanted. My friend and I came in for matching tattoos and we both have never gotten a tattoo before. We met with John and discussed size location and price. Finally we started the process and I couldn't be happier with the finished product. Despite all these reviews claiming "bad attitude", it felt like he was being more straight up and honest. I will always recommend Zach. I've been getting tattoos from him for about 2 years now and every time is a great experience. He has a bold, traditional style, does amazing work in both color and black/grey. I get so many complements on his tattoos. He has became a great friend which you can't say for a lot of tattoo artist. He always makes sure you're comfortable and listens to exactly what you want in your tattoo. ( even worse it is all blown out I couldn't understand what was wrong with it when I got home but I have since learned what it is and the entire word has blow out bummed. read more

I came in on a Monday afternoon to get a 2nd opinion/quote/ideas about a sleeve that I had partially done at another shop and that I needed finished because the artist who started it really, really messed it up. I know from talking to 2 other shops that it will be $800- $1000 (2-3 sessions) to finish and rework but they will not being getting my business. I was greeted only after I said something to the guy behind the counter, even though he was not busy doing anything. I told him my situation and he was very unconcerned, barely looked at my tattoo and had no advice for me other than "look through the folders". The work was actually pretty good that I saw but the shop I came from right before I went here spent a solid 20 minutes with me quoting me session prices and reassuring me that they'd love to work on the pice to fix it. I was open to going somewhere closer to my home but I refuse to go to an attitude ridden unfriendly shop who I have to beg to give me a quote. I recommend anyone reading go to Breaking Ink in Hillsboro because they are super helpful, friendly and will be receiving a lot of money from this customer in the coming months! read more
