My girlfriend and I went in to get matching tattoos. We wanted an 8 point star on each of our arms and each others initials on our fingers. We got in pretty quickly which was great! And price wasn't too bad either. Isaiah was our artist and he was so so great and friendly and talkative, also mentioning his MANY years as a professional artist, so we felt really good working with him. At the end of the appointment everything looked great, though my girlfriend and I both talked about how much our simple finger tattoos hurt. Now, about 2 weeks later, both of our star are tattoos look great...but the finger tattoos...... i've never seen finger tattoos turn out this way, especially after only 2 weeks when they should be freshly healed now. We were both very worried it would get infected because of how deep the would was. I've always had very good luck here, I've gotten my eyebrow, nostril, and 2 helixes pierced with black hole. Recently my eyebrow piercing was infected, the doctor recommended I remove the jewelry so I made a quick appointment to get a jewelry change. When I got there and explained my situation the piercer, Damian, was quite condescending and rude in regard to the advice my doctor gave me. Saying "I just want to f-ing punch your doctor", and "I am so sorry for all the pain you're going to go through now because of your doctor". He made the environment of the appointment hostile and I left without my jewelry being changed. He angrily explained why I should not remove the jewelry, something I would have been receptive to if he was patient and more understanding. read more

Piercers are kind and walk you through the process! The front desk workers are also really nice and help with any questions I had. Some downsides are that the prices of service are pretty high, and have gone up a little recently too (though it makes sense). I have been here a few times throughout the years (conch, rook, and lobe piercings). The staff are very friendly and professional. I had retired some piercings a few years ago due to impatience of cleaning and healing. Anyways, I wanted to re-pierce an old lobe piercing (thankfully just needed to be re-opened). They only charged me $10 total for everything. I had brought in my own jewelry to get my tragus jewelry replaced. They are amazing! I highly recommend. If I had the patience I would definitely come back to get my cartilage pierced again... (miss having a rook). They also have their own parking spots behind the shop. I also did not have an appointment and walked-in on a Sunday. Not busy at all on Sunday afternoon and did not have to wait. The experience after the piercing was awful.. my ear was always swollen to the point where you couldn't see the earring. When my friend and I went to a different shop to have our piercings looked at, they said Rachel, the piercer, did not correctly pierce our ears nor put the right size post in. After taking the earring out, the stud was completely crooked because Rachel failed to pierce it at the right angle. I've had the piercing out for awhile now; however, there is still a bump on my ear from all the damage that was done. I highly recommend going elsewhere for piercings. read more

The prices advertised are not even close to the actual price. Online it says a piercing is $40. I booked an appointment and as soon as we walked into the door the girl at the counter told me the actual price was $85 (before tip) I told her that was pretty steep jump for a 40 dollar piercing. The 40 doesn't include the basic stud or the after care saline solution. It's simply to book the appointment. Which also costs $40 to cancel. So I was left with paying $100 for an advertised $40 dollar piercing. She also argued with me when I asked why my minor child had to put her pronouns on the form. She said we don't specify gender here. I told her that asking my child her pronouns is, in fact, being gender specific. Either way, she made us very uncomfortable from the start. Went in to get a flat piercing with two of my girlfriends. I think the piercers name was Rachel. She was nice enough but after a few days my ear began to swell, bleed and puss. I went in to have them look at it and when I got there they told me they didn't have a piercer that day... even though the website says they have someone there everyday. The guy at the front looked at my ear and was like " yeah, we need to fix that, you can come back tomorrow" umm.... no. I'm in a lot of pain and at this point the swelling was so bad my ear was " eating" the earring.. the flat back part was cutting into my flesh and the front gem stone part was buried in my ear. I left and went to Adorn right down the street and they got me in right away to fix it. The piercer at Adorn told me that Rachel used a post that was way too small for the area and it didn't give my ear enough room to swell resulting in a very painful situation. She had to remove the piercing, flush it, clean it and replace it with the correct size post. Within minutes I felt relief. I will be going elsewhere for any future piercings... Originally my teen was supposed to get her lobes pierced in March of 2020 but then covid happened. We waited until numbers were lower and we felt comfortable with the precautions in place to book her this spring. It was an excited and long awaited day for her and she was filled with nervous excitement for something she'd waited so long for. Black Hole had been very communicative with me. They had both emailed and texted reminding us of the upcoming appointment. Their website mentioned wearing a mask of course and being healthy for the appt. It also mentioned calling when we arrived to make sure we could enter die to space constraints. We called from the parking lot and went through screening questions, which a year into the pandemic we are used to and appreciate. But then she asked if we had been further than 3 hours away in the last two weeks. This surprised me. I said that well, we had been to our vacation home in Bend which was about 3 hours away but it was our own home. She then told me they would not honor our appointment. No exceptions. My daughter was bawling in the back seat. Our family has been VERY hunkered down. We haven't so much as had a drink on the patio if a restaurant in over a year. We get groceries delivered. We don't see family or friends unless outside, one at a time and masked and social distanced. We had a change of scenery in our own home, walking and biking. We could have had far more exposure here in Portland than we did there! Even if the 3 hour rule with no exceptions seems misguided to me, I would have understood this was a rule and booked the appt after two weeks HAD I BEEN AWARE OF IT. Their website made no mention of it, neither did the texts or emails. And the rude off putting manner of the associate on the phone was the total tipping point. There is no way I would reschedule here. Communication and customer service are key to the success of a business. Black Hole completely failed with this. Thankfully, we were able to schedule with Adorn for the next day. They had fantastic covid protocols in place, from the air purifier to the plexiglass and temperature screening, detailed information on the website and the super clean and friendly approach to the appointment. Well I'm super disappointed in myself for not having Matthew do my piercing in the first place ‍ but I will absolutely be back to do any more with Matthew! But Burr was SO busy. Clearly they put the right person up to deal with clients because she is SUPER sweet and SUPER friendly. I waited about 15 minutes and when I heard the wait time I had to leave. But I said "I'll be back!" I'm sure she hears that all the time, but I was thinking damn she is SO nice and this place is SUPER clean and just really nice inside. Yup. Definitely getting my business. Today, I arrived AT noon. Y'all I was ON TIME to get right in. NOPE. I had 7 people in front of me still. I suppose most people would or could get annoyed but the fact the line was SO long for piercing, should tell you you're in the right place. Burr gave me the form to fill out and gave me the cost, $10 to put "outside" jewelry in. I was like yes. Quality work for that price, no problem. I waited about 40 minutes, and went back with Matthew. I immediately felt at ease and changing my ring out was SO fast and SO pain free. When I had it changed initially, the girl who did it pinched me and didn't really seem to have any F's to give as to how I felt. Matthew was like a ninja. Fast and pain free. We even did it twice since I had a smaller ring for my nose and put that one in instead. When I saw the list for the piercing prices online I was SUPER PISSED I hadn't gone there. The shop is so friendly, comfortable, plays good music and has a gorgeous selection of jewelry for LESS than I paid at the other place. Bah. Finally got my ears pierced after 25 years of going back and forth. Please make sure to call beforehand to see if a piercer/artist is in today. They will also tell you how long the wait will be if there is one so try to come in earlier in the day! Staff was super friendly and informative of the process I needed to go through, before AND after the procedure. The shop was surprisingly clean and ambiance was nicer then I had anticipated. Once the jewelry was selected, my piercer (apologies for forgetting name submitting this review 8 weeks after piercing) was once again very informative in making sure the process was as smooth as it goes. He would countdown before the piercing so I could prepare for the initial pain and would calmly answer the questions I would have. He seemed very happy and did it with a smile rather then seeming as if he didn't want to be here. We had an actual conversation and enjoyed our brief time together.
