We arrived at tavern after a LONG day of hiking (13 miles) at Lake Louise. We were ravenous and tired - the worst combination for making food decisions. We put our trust in our server, Awale, and he did not disappoint. We started with the fried pickles (which come with 8 spears!) and they were phenomenal. We shared the bison burger and the fish and chips, with a poutine upgrade on the fries. The burger was delicious, the fish was perfectly flakey and crispily battered, and the poutine was classic and delicious. Awale was the icing on the cake and kept us laughing throughout our meal. Oh man...I'm still drooling over the truffle fries right now. When you can smell the truffle wafting into your nose as it sits you know you are in for a treat! What I also like is that the Parmesan is the real deal: nice generous flakes of cheese! You can get the taste of truffle and cheese with every fry. And of course with every fries order you need a burger. (Well actually the burger comes with fries, not that the fries comes with the burger, but same diff lol). I tried the boar burger just because I never had boar before. It was good but...perhaps uneventful. Maybe a regular burger would have been more flavorful. They also have a decent selection of brews. I wish they had more local beers to choose from: as much as I enjoy a Shock Top I prefer trying something local when I travel so I wished there were more options than the couple they provided, but it was enough for me to find one that I was okay with. This place is great! If you're looking for some good food and drinks, look no further. We came in on a Thursday and got to enjoy their amazing daily special of $10 cocktail specials + $15 tavern burger. The burger is great and the trash can cocktail packs a punch. We were a group of 12 and there was no problem seating us inside around 8pm. It's fun atmosphere with rustic cabin vibes. Great food. Great atmosphere. Definitely recommend! We went around 8pm on a Tuesday night - which can be challenging because a number of Canmore restaurants close on Monday/Tuesday. The place was hopping, so it took a few minutes to get a table. But they had heaters in the doorway and on the patio for anyone waiting (we were also here during a very cold snap). Service was positive and helpful. And the food was terrific. My husband had the bison burger, which he demolished before I could try it. His side of sweet potato fries was enough for two people. My daughter had the buffalo mac and cheese, which was awesome - with a really nice kick. And I had fish tacos with their butternut squash salad. Both were excellent - I'd happily go back for an entree size of the salad. For three of us, with a beer each, the bill came to about $100. Similar pricing to an Earls or Joeys. The ambience was great though. Lots of larger tables that seated 8 people - would be terrific for a group of friends after a day of skiing. The seating was pretty close together, but even though it always packed, we had no trouble hearing each other. There were lots of cool foodie options on the menu (ie definitely not a boring burger and beer kind of place). Came here on a Wednesday night after a day of hiking with the family - it was quite busy for a 7 pm dinner. The patio seating looked really nice, but we opted to eat inside. Street parking only, but there was plenty so no problems with that. We ordered the following to share: Crab and Sweet Potato Dip: Served warm, the dip was quite good with the pita bread they provided. Didn't get much taste of the sweet potato since the cream cheese over powered it, but the crab came through. Poutine with Pork Belly: Really good, though requires some mixing since the gravy is at the bottom - I think they do this so the fries stay crispy. The pork belly is super crispy, like lechon kawali, and went really well with the potatoes and gravy. Wish they had added more cheese curds! Ahi Tuna Katsu: Favorite dish of the night and so clever! I'm not one for ahi tuna at restaurants... but the concept was so well executed. They wrapped the raw tuna in seaweed then covered in panko and deep fried it like a pork katsu - however the tuna was still raw in the center. It was a great contrast between the crispy panko breading and the soft tuna... however the wrapped seaweed gave some great salty flavor to the fish! Not often I get to see a raw fish katsu! Fried Brussel Sprouts: These are literally fried to a tasty crisp - makes for a great side dish. They have a great char to them and are drizzled with a tasty chipotle aioli. Pitcher of Green Sangria: Quite good... though I didn't taste much if any alcohol. It reminded me of a fruity cucumber soda or a green agua fresca. If you're not a fan of a sweet sangria, then this isn't for you. The food here is really good, but the service was a disappointment - hence the 1 star removed. It took forever to get our orders and our food. I get that this is a touristy spot and the prices are high... but that's no reason to leave customers hanging. With drinks they were quick - our pitcher of sangria was given in like 5 minutes. The food literally took 40 minutes... I had to check in with the waiter after 20 minutes if our order had been lost, and he informed me that food was taking 40-50 minutes to come out of the kitchen. Though he apologized, I wish they had warned us beforehand of how long the food would take when we ordered. I didn't appreciate having the sangria watered down by melting ice by the time the food finally arrived. We weren't the only ones agitated by the wait for food - as I looked around, other customers were asking what happened to their orders. Outstanding meal! The Caribbean jerk tacos are amaze balls! I devoured them in no time. My wife had the salmon chicken burger. That was also amazing! I did get to have a piece of her burger. ;). We were looking for a place where we could have more drinks and also do some dancing. I'm so happy we wound up there. Our waitress was PHENOMENAL. she remembered everyone's drinks and even brought us more on the dance floor. This was one of those times where my quickie Yelp fingers made me seem like a magic superhero to my tired and hungry friends. After a long day - and even longer weekend - working at the Canmore Folk Festival my friends wanted to go somewhere with a crew to have a delicious celebratory meal and beers. They were aimed for a spot they'd been to years before but when I looked it up the reviews had nosedived. They texted a friend who's local and before she could shoot back a suggestion I had this place pulled up. We got a wholehearted thumbs up from the locals and made our way to this small, cozy, woodsy, amazing smelling restaurant tucked just a little bit off the main drag. We had amazing salmon burgers and veggie burgers and tacos and amazing local beers. We cuddled into a booth and passed around the happy baby and had amazing fun friendly service from a Quebecois gent who made us feel right at home. I had a few hours alone in Canmore and was looking for a quiet place to hang out. I'd walked past a few times and decided to venture in for a pint and a bite to eat. They have decent wifi if you are looking for a place to work too. The staff are pretty relaxed but that doesn't mean unattentive. In fact they were great but I didn't feel like they were breathing down my neck. I was left in peace to enjoy a beer and chill, which I appreciated. The decor is rustic with a few modern touches including Canadian flag cushions on all of the benches at the rear of the bar. They have a small patio too but I was hiding from the sun so the bar did me a turn. Feeling peckish I checked the menu and went for the crab dip. It came with pita and nachos and was super unhealthy bowl of melty cream cheese and crabby goodness. I! was perfect. I loved it! And they even packed up my leftovers to take away with me. Tavern is one of my very favourite spots in Canmore. I've been 5 or 6 times and I've always enjoyed myself. The atmosphere is perfectly casual and there's usually sports on TV. I've never been when it hasn't been packed, so reservations are a good idea. You can't go wrong with either the sweet potato fries or the Truffle Parmesan Fries to start. They're known for their tacos, I believe they've discontinued their fish tacos (which were the best), but you can still get chicken or pork belly, both are delicious! The vegetarian item that I just can't get enough of is the veggie curry masala...so good! It is a bar too, and I've probably sampled every drink on the menu. My absolute favourite is the Cucito (vodka, cucumber, mint, soda & syrup). It's so fresh and you can hardly taste the liquor (trust me, it's there ;) I'm also a sucker for a good Caesar, and the Tavern makes one of the best! Love this restaurant!! read more

"Go in, the food's amazing!", said a stranger coming out of Tavern as we stood outside debating where to go for dinner. Luck was on our side, we managed to snag a table on a busy Saturday night. We got the Tavern Pig Nut Skillet to share and I split the braised pork belly poutine and duck lettuce wraps with a friend. That skillet. A pork trifecta is how I would describe it. A pork meatball mixed with pork belly wrapped in bacon and then baked in a maple BBQ glaze. Ummm, can they please make this into some sort of sandwich?! The smokey flavoring for the duck was perfect, although there didn't seem to be enough of it filling the lettuce wrap which was a bit disappointing. The crispy pork belly bits in the poutine made up for it a little, I think. All in all, a pretty decent meal at Tavern. Thanks well advising stranger, wherever you are! read more
