Food and drink are always great The service not so much. I have been there three times. The first time was mediocre service. Seems like they didn't want to be there the second time. The server actually took the plate away from my daughter while she was still eating. We thought it was funny but at the same time not. Takes too long to get refills on either soda or alcohol. Third time server seemed new. Really really sweet but it took like 12 minutes for our drinks and there was only two tables there. They all seem to be huddled in a corner laughing and giggling and just chit-chatting but it wasn't busy at all. I expected better service. Not like a fast enough check back at all. We called in advance and the hostess told us for our large party, we would have to separate groups into four (we had 13 people). this was no problem because it was last minute anyways. Upon going into the restaurant the hostesses couldn't seem to figure out that the reservations were under different names, though we explained this several times And that is what we were instructed to do. we stepped to the side while they struggled to figure out what we had already discussed on the phone. next they accused one of our party members of being "too intoxicated" and that she couldn't serve her. this member of our party is undergoing chemo therapy drugs and is frequently sick to her stomach but tries to navigate life normally. We were planning on starting off our night there with drinks. sounds like discrimination and that they were looking for an excuse to not serve us. I hope the hostess (short dark hair female with a wide stature) understands the mental impact of her actions. I hope there's some sort of anti discrimination training that you hold for employees. read more

I've been to a couple other locations that I prefer a little more. Things were a little slow to start and we arrived pretty late on a Monday. But we had a good time and enjoyed our food and drinks. The food itself is decent, nothing amazing. The fried pickles were good. Someone got a pasta dish and it was not good. I would stick with traditional American/tavern food here. They do have vegetarian and gluten free options available. Service was good. Reservations are recommended for weekend evenings. This location has two levels and a rooftop. There are a ton of TVs so great for watching sports. It's located in the shopping center Woburn Village, so there is a parking lot but if it's a busy, you can be driving around a bit looking for a parking spot. read more

I believe most experiences I have at Tavern in the Square to be nice, cordial, and fun. This location was far from any of those things. The atmosphere of the restaurant seethes with the gentrification of the sub-area it is located in: Woburn Village. The area is a microcosm of white and glassy buildings that the wealthy seem to love despite it looking uninspired and boring. This location follows that trend with most of the walls being glass windows, wooden panels that make me feel like I'm in my basement but also somehow a wealthy version of it, and the very tacky overhead lights and sconces. It is the location least like others I have been to and it suffers because it does not feel like a tavern, pub, or any other similar word you'd like to use to describe it considering even just the look and decor is diametrically opposed to the target audiences that would be in a tavern: working-class people. Beyond this, how about the service? The red-headed waitress who was with us for this outing did all the things a waitress does, but in a snarky, almost angry way. From aggressively snagging the menus from my hands after ordering to throwing the check on the table- this was not exactly an ideal experience. I believe the most egregious thing of all is more of a general red flag for me: when the waitress for some reason can't even look at my partner at the table, let alone face her, we have a problem. I'm not sure exactly what the hangup was here, but it seemed there were hostile and uncaring undertones. This review only gets 2 stars because I know the chefs are at least trying. The Nashville chicken sandwich and buffalo mac and cheese were our choices today. How a mac and cheese dish is $23 I will never know. It probably has to do with this tendency to cater towards "avocado-ing" everything on the menu. I digress and I don't agree with it, but the chefs are good at what they do here. The food, service, ambience, and atmosphere was amazing at a private event that we went to recently on the rooftop. My only complaint is that management really really needs to consider installing ceiling fans under the bar portion of the rooftop bar. There was one super tiny fan hanging on the ceiling near where the food is kept during events to obviously keep the air circulating over there. However, installing some ceiling fans under the Bar portion is so necessary and would give so much needed relief to guests (and staff) on hot days during the summer months. read more

On the way back from Montreal, I stopped for lunch at this Tavern in the Square location. I have been to several of their restaurants in the region before, so I knew about their menu and quality. Since I am part of their rewards program, I also had some "credits" in my account that I wanted to use. I arrived and got seated promptly. My server was very sweet and friendly. I got the Mediterranean Salmon, I asked for rice instead of couscous and my server, said, no problem. The food arrived timely and the salmon was cooked perfectly...I did not need to use a knife to cut the moist piece of salmon, my fork was all I needed to get into this beautifully cooked piece of fish. I had asked for the sauce on the side, so I was able to meter the amount of pesto sauce I layered on the salmon. Some fresh roasted vegetables complemented the plate, all done very nicely. Unfortunately did not had a good experience here. Bar staff was honestly disrespectful and rude, we were called out for being "over-served" yet they're the one serving the drinks. Came on a Saturday, was not what I was expecting at all. Had 3 beers over the course of two hours and was told we had to order over $20 of food so we "weren't breaking state laws." This place is always busy. The plaza it's in is crazy so definitely leave yourself plenty of time to find parking. Even on a weekday for lunch the lot is often very busy. The restaurant can get very loud, but it is a fun place to sit and eat and catch a game if you want to. The food is better than your average bar food for sure. The quinoa and beet salad is really good. Mac and cheese was okay, but served lukewarm which wasn't ideal. The service is okay, definitely not super quick or attentive, but they're nice. read more

Can't leave without having an espresso martini either. It's in a great location to bop through a few stores with friends after too! My friends and I have always had a great time here. Once we had tried to see if there was any space at the bar upstairs (with the great view for a summer night!!) but it was pretty busy. A manager saw us and realized there weren't enough seats together for us. He told us to hold on and he worked some magic! He cleared away some things and even carried an empty chair from the opposite end so we could sit up there. It was so nice and thoughtful when we easily could've sat downstairs. I really liked this location! The restaurant has a second floor with a rooftop which was perfect in the summer. Bar upstairs gave speakeasy vibes. Service is always great bartenders are super friendly and servers are always giving fats prompt service and I feel like there is always a manager on duty that comes in to check how drinks and food was right after first tastes which I thought was a very nice touch! My favorite app is the cornflake chicken tenders- I never had anything like it before. You can get them tossed in a sauce but I usually just eat them plain with honey mustard because they are so good. First off, I usually don't eat at pub grub restaurants, but I was in the area and hungry so I gave it a try. I am not a burger and fries girl so I ordered the fish tacos. The tacos were accompanied by lukewarm black beans so I sent them back - red flag. Anyway, the bartender was very nice and ordered me a new cup of warm beans. The tortillas were corn when they are usually flour. I did not complain about this . However, the 3 fish tacos that they served were watery secondary to the topping placed on the taco. I didn't send these back because of this, I will not be returning to this restaurant. I did notice that many of the patrons ordered hamburgers that were huge along with a large helping of fries and chips. The ambiance was lacking. Great experience here! Went after the Kylie Minogue concert at the nearby TD Garden, and loved it here. Pretty lively and busy on a Wednesday night at 11 pm, but we were able to get a table and even order food minutes before the kitchen closed. Our server was sweet and handled the rush pretty good. We sat at the bar and my friend immediately said 'I don't want to sit here and want to sit at a table and get table service but only the bar was available so we sat at the bar. We both ordered a drink and after the 1st sip my friend said this drink was weak AF And hardly had alcohol in it. She finished it and ordered a different drink that she said that was only moderately better. It was the bartender- We had a young blonde girl bartender and since we were women, we received a crappy pour because she assumed we wouldn't tip well.
