When we arrived, we were with somebody in a wheelchair and they had the ramp blocked for handicap which is why I gave 4 stars. The staff was nice and tried to accommodate us. We made it work. The place was packed. The food was good had good flavor. The bread that comes with pasta tasted like burnt toast. The server was new but he did a great job and kept checking on us making sure our drinks were full. They had a large screen with basketball ball game on and good vibe. Highly recommend Trivia nights on Tuesday with a mindblowing burger deal: cheeseburger (at least 1/3 or 1/4 pound), tots and a 12 oz Bud Light draft for $8.99. Tots were crispy and the burger was juicy. No special seasoning but came with all the routine backyard BBQ fixings. I was definitely full at the end of dinner. Great staff, even though they were hustling that night. They were attentive, pleasant and efficient. We actually ate here months ago. It was quite busy. The menu should probably be shortened. It always makes me wonder about a place that sells shell seafood dishes along with american food while being a bar. We didn't have any issues with our server. In fact she was attentive and great. We were able to find seating. It appears to be a place for the regular locals to hang out. Lots of people congregating discussing work etc. Standard beer bottle, draft menu. We were just in Cleveland for the weekend and we like to try new restaurants that might not be open back in Cbus. This place was only an 8 minute drive from our hotel so we thought we'd try it out. We really enjoyed the atmosphere, it's what most of the restaurants we love look like. The booth was super comfy and the menu was diverse enough to appease any appetite. The waitress was very nice and always made sure our glasses remained full. My hubby chose a cheeseburger and absolutely loved it. All I could hear over there on his end were grunts of pleasure as he chewed. I settled for the buffalo chicken wrap (I'm a sucker for a good wrap) and it was decent. There wasn't a whole lot of chicken on it, but I still enjoyed it. But I also ordered some tator tots and WOW. Those things were heaven in potato form!! Very delicious!! Bowling alley food. This place just ain't it. The space is unclean - sticky table, reusable plastic cups that smelled like chlorine and were wet. Like fresh out of the sink. Water came in a pitcher and also smelled like chlorine. Food was... I think microwaved. Ordered the "gigantic pretzel" which was actually two of those Bavarian pretzels that you get from Gordon Food Services. They said it came with beer cheese and mustard, just got one of those cheese cups that come from the pump dispenser at the gas station. Also got jalapeño poppers, definitely microwaved. Came with a ranch cup that I'd wager was Hidden Valley watered down. There were some entrees - can't go wrong with chicken tenders (also frozen) but tasted fine. Fries were rubbery and dry. I had been to the tavern once before and enjoyed it, so we decided to return for dinner as we were in the area for axe throwing class. We sat outside, and while there is some road noise due to the proximity to the street, it was very pleasant. Our server let us know when taking our drink order that they were busier than expected and she would do her best. She then proceeded to be more attentive than 99.99% of servers I have had in my life. She was quick on refills, and checked on us several times. If I owned a restaurant, I would have tried to hire her on the spot. Our meals were delicious. We had wings and gator bites to start, and then a club sandwich and a burger for our main course. All was delicious. This was a fantastic and much needed stop over on our way home. We were in town for a birthday gathering that only had munchies for people to eat (no worries.) With nearly a 3 1/2 hour drive back to Detroit I figured we ought to get something to eat, and I also figured why waste an opportunity to try something new. The tavern sits in kind of an elevated spot with an interesting view from the parking lot. The interior is very welcoming, lots of TVs with sports, a reasonable noise level, and good lighting. We also found the booths to be very spacious and comfortable. Our server was very prompt, and very attentive throughout our stay. I have a son with autism, and I appreciated that she took the time to try to understand his order. The menu is nicely varied with lots of interesting options. My wife and daughter split an order of white fish bites, which they indicated came out very good. My sons and I all ordered hamburgers, I went with the Pig burger that came with a bit of pulled pork and an onion ring. The burgers had a nice finish to them and very good flavor. The french fries were a little more salted that I would've cared for, but they were nice and crispy. With tip our meal came to $70, I think this was definitely worth the quality of what we got. Stopped for lunch in the middle of the week and went with my typical water to drink and Buffalo chicken wrap lunch meal when I eat out of the office. I wasn't sure if they forgot about me or if the kitchen was backed up, but it took roughly 45 minutes for my meal to come out after my order was placed. I was one of maybe 5 people in the restaurant. The water and food had a weird taste to it which I can't even explain. I was in a hurry and hungry and disregarded saying something to the waitress. This was my first time here. WOULD NOT GO BACK. Our Server was Nicole and she was not pleasant, matter of fact she was not remotely nice. One of the guest went up to the bar to ask for some water, she tells him, I'll be at your table shortly. He never did get his water even after she came to the table to get our drinks orders. She reprimanded the table that if you have a party of more than 6, you need to call ahead. Another guest asks her "I don't like IPA beers, is Mystic Magic an IPA?". She says "no" and he orders it. When the drinks arrive, the beer is an IPA. After 10 minutes of trying to get her attention, he tells her the beer is an IPA. She replies "I thought it wasn't." She asks if he wants something different and he orders a non-IPA beer. We order food and surprisingly it took only about 25 minutes to get our food. After eating the food, she asks the one guy "if she (the other server) brought your beer out." The answer was no, so she gets the other beer. When cleaning up the table, she asks the guys sitting next to him if he wanted the discarded IPA beer. He says "sure" assuming that since she gave wrong information for the order, the beer would be free. When the bill came and the IPA was on the tab, he asked to remove the IPA that he drink. She replied, "You gave the beer to your friend". Which he did not. The server offered the beer to the friend. Call it wordsmithing, call it lying, whatever. On top of that, a tip was added to our bills and $2 dollars for using a credit card. Not a great experience at all, food was OK, customer service was not good. We order food it took about 1 hour for the 4 of us to get our meal. I order the walleye bites, which had little to no flavor. The tatter tots were extremely greasy and had a odd taste to them. Visited Tavern of Independence for dinner on a Friday night. Their happy hour went until seven and they had a list of half off apps. We chose the loaded tots and the Reuben bites and were disappointed to find out that they didn't have any Reuben bites after ordering. Servers would do well to tell you what they are out of when they hand you the menus before you take the time to get excited about trying something. That being said our service was wonderful. It was very attentive and conversational when need be. The tots did not disappoint! They were delicious. There is a vast draft beer list as well as bottled options. You will be able to find something unique here to try. They also have a good variety of liquor in different flavors. For dinner we tried the shrimp tacos and a burger with the fried Brussels sprouts. The tacos had a spicy Asian glaze with a significant kick and shredded cabbage for a nice crunch. The burger was cooked perfectly to order at medium and was a nice sized 1/2# patty. The flavor was good and it came on a soft fluffy brioche bun. The brussels sprouts were very good but needed to be salted. They lacked seasoning. Once salted, they were delicious. We also tried the soaked cherries for fun. They were strong for sure. They used jarred maraschinos. They were fun to try but I don't know that I would order them again. This is a tavern with a nice variety of food frokm flatbreads, burgers, variety of chicken sandwiches, specials that look pretty good including ossobuco. I got a blue cheese burger and brussel sprouts. Also tried the chicken lettuce wraps and loaded tots. Then loaded toys had pulled pork and yum yum sauce on them. They just really weren't my cup of tea. Probably would have been better with just cheese and no yum yum sauce. Their special bloody mary had no garnishes, not even an olive and just wasnt very good. The blue cheese burger with creamy blue cheese onion and portabello mushroom was solid. The brussel sprouts were okay. The lettuce wraps have the potential to be very good, they just need some sort of dipping sauce. Maybe the yum yum from the tots would be better with these. The server although a nice girl really had no opinion on anything on the menu. When asked about the chicken paprikish...she said its paprikish. First the positive: all the servers were very sweet and polite. GREAT beer selection. Didn't try any food but it looked good. It is probably the 3rd restaurant in that location over the last few years and I feel the best kept of them all. The others literally smelled bad. This place was clean. The negative: I know it is a new business and I hope that explains the horrible, horrible service. Literally 30 mins or more between seeing the waitress during most of our 3.5 hour stay. The owner stopped by our group and asked how everything was several times. We said terrible and nothing changed. He never stepped up and made a change nor comped anything. Nothing. What a waste of time --let me tell you that the best thing about this place was the diet Dr Pepper. Nothing about this place said down home cooking or comfort food, though reading about it and its menu certainly insinuated those facts. I ordered one of the Lenten specials on a Thursday. The perch was overcooked dry and curly like a curly fry. I had asked for tater tots, and they still gave me the french fries I didn't want --my bill was wrong, They tried to charge me a credit card fee when I was paying cash, need, I say more? Might be a great place for drinkers and bar hoppers, and people from the bowling alley across the street but it's not for groups of people who are coworkers, or people that are trying to do a small reunion, not!! I've tried a variety of foods from the menu and haven't been let down yet. Good selection with the drink menu as well. It's a great place to relax and grab a bite to eat later in the evening and isn't overly crowded. Tonight I'm eating just plain old chicken tenders. They are a fine execution of a common dish and you can get them with any of the wing sauces. The "Fish & Chips" is cod. I think it was like $10.99 and delicious. Had 2 PBR beers for $2 bucks each. The photo I took doesn't do it justice. Looks like more fries (delicious with malt vinegar BTW) than fish but the portion was more than adequate. Also comes with a side of coleslaw. Tonight this place was very busy at 5pm. First friday fish fry. We remembered it from last year how good it was and came back this year. For the fish fry that is. We have been there for their other dishes throughout the year which are good. But the fish fry....very disappointed, I really enjoyed the walleye, but it was a medium piece and came with green beans and hush puppies. I could of had a different side but chose beans because i thought it would be a bigger piece of fish. Also came with 2 hush puppies, most disappointed in because last year the hush puppies were soooo good. Homemade and if i remember right had corn in them. But the walleye was very good, just wanting more. Others at our table had the cod. All of them very disappointed. Not good. Worse were the barely cooked fries. Then there is the potato pancakes, menu said 3 large pancakes, Nope...there were several pre frozen mini cakes. Something you can get out of the grocery store in the frozen food section.
