Just took a friend to lunch at Tavern on the Lake. This restaurant is part of Blue Water Manor and is a must when visiting Lake George. The stone architecture is awesome (read about the history of the building on the menu), and there is an unsurpassed view of the lake from two levels of outdoor seating. The food is good. This is not a negative, it's just that I'm accustomed to giving restaurants a more enthusiastic review which I was unable to do here. For starters, I have to say that Sarah, our service, was very nice. And accommodating. As for our lunch choices, my friend's crab cakes were just OK. Ditto her onion rings. I was told by Sarah that the New England clam chowder was homemade. Clearly, it came right out of a SYSCO can. Itty bitty fragments of clams in a thin tasteless broth, and mealy potatoes fresh from a tin. Disappointing. My salad was good. It was topped with a small piece of perfectly cooked salmon ($14 extra). We shared the flourless chocolate cake topped with Bunny Tracks ice cream. Yummy. Would I go back? Absolutely. That view ... wow. I just wouldn't order the clam chowder or crab cakes. Instead, I would try one of their burgers or other options.

Food was good American pub fare, nothing to write good about and nothing to complain about. The cocktails we tried were so and so, next time I'd try a different one, not from the menu. They were really busy but service was quick, attentive and friendly. The views, if you booked in advance and got an outside table, are magnificent.

Arrived on a busy Friday. The server upon greeting us asked for a drink order. I asked about IPAs of which there were two. I asked which was hazy and she shrugged... probably could have checked with the bar ... 10 steps away... my wife asked if the fish fry was good. The server said it's a "typical" fish fry. Sorry to trouble you with these unreasonable questions. That said the French onion soup was very good, the chili not so. Burgers are good and the fish fry was indeed good. Nothing that will leave a long memory but a decent meal.

Tavern on the Lake is part of the Blue Water Manor family resort complex in Bolton Landing. The establishment is open from May through October. The Tavern resides on a stone cliff directly over the Lake which provides spectacular uninterrupted views of Lake George. Whether you are dining on the outdoor patio or in the indoor dining room, the restaurant is comfortable and cozy. The large indoor bar has a clear view of the wonderful lake scenery as well. We arrived by boat for lunch and were greeted by young me that assist us to doc the boat. Once we climbed the long staircase up to the restaurant, we were greeted and seated at an outdoor table with wonderful views. The menu is your classic American favorites. Breakfast offerings were your traditional eggs, omelets, and griddle items. The lunch menu consists of various salads, burgers, and sandwiches. The dinner menu features a range of beef, seafood, and chicken options. We were fortunate to be seated when we arrived because the Tavern does not take reservations. Our meals were good, and the service was wonderful.

The location itself is beautiful, especially if you can get a reservation on the deck overlooking the water. This place has the potential for true elegance and fine dining, but the vibe was louder than I was ready for. The band was loud and our table was on the deck but 2 feet from a bar/in the middle of a crowd of drunk men so we could barely hear each other. Service was good. Our food was decent: definitely cooked well but maybe some more exciting spices and flavors? My swordfish was a little too black peppery. I wish the flavor came more from the sauce but it was mostly just melted butter. My boyfriend loved his steak- it had a sweet maple glaze. Dessert was decent as well.

The service was terrible (especially from the bartenders) and the food was average. You pay a steep price for the views of the lake.

Unless your local reservations mean nothing! Vacationers bring a lot of revenue to Lake George and should not be treated differently!

One entree was the crab cake, which was mostly filler and not crab, and came out so cold it was inedible. The second was the Baja fish tacos, which were cold and chewy (we also ordered them with fries which we never got). When the waiter came to check on how we were doing we let him know we were unhappy and he said he would get a manager, which he never did, and just brought the check. We asked for the manager to come over & he didn't apologize or offer a solution to rectify the situation he just kept saying "I hear you, I understand". Finally, when we asked him what was going to be done about the situation he said "I'll take half off of the bill", so we handed him the credit card with the original bill. He came back, gave us back our card and the new bill. The new bill did not have half taken off, it had half taken off of the two entrees we had an issue with. As we got up, the waiter came running over to say "we didn't run your card that's just the new bill". Overall, the food wasn't good but the service and management is what was worse. The manager was very dismissive and not helpful at all. I would steer clear of this restaurant at all costs !

We were seated on the covered porch, which was nice, but even in the shade it was pretty warm. It was a busy holiday weekend, so we expected a little extra waiting. Our server took a bit longer than usual to get to us, but once she did, the drinks came out fairly quickly. The food took quite a while, though again, the place was packed, so we understood. The shrimp appetizer was absolutely delicious and definitely the highlight of the meal! The rest of the food was good, but a little more average than we've experienced here before. Overall, Huddle is still a nice spot with a great location, and we'd certainly come back. Holiday weekends are no joke, and it seemed like everyone in Bolton Landing had the same idea we did! Hopefully they'll be able to keep up with the summer crowds a little better next time--and maybe convince Mother Nature to turn down the thermostat, too!

I had the frozen huckleberry lemonade adult drink special which was very tasty, although a bit challenging to drink for a bit (it was too frozen). My son got the chicken nuggies with fries. It came out hot and fries were crispy. Actually everything came out super fast as they had just opened and maybe they weren't too busy. I ordered the pretzel sticks with queso. Similar to my brother who got the nachos, there were diminishing returns in that it was better while it was warm and while the texture of the cheese was better. The pretzels were very salty. My sister-in-law enjoyed her chicken sandwich. The clam chowder and the steamed clams were fantastic. I'd highly recommend the soup and the shrimp dish that my wife had also wasn't bad. The cold lobster roll for $35 was not worth it in my opinion as it was more of a lobster salad. The view is fantastic here and the vibes are pretty good so overall a worthwhile stop if you are in the lake George region. But it is important to keep in mind that this on the nicer side and prices are correspondingly higher.

We ordered the Clam Chowder, Blackened Mahi Mahi, and the Seafood Scampi. The clam chowder and mahi mahi were decent--not amazing, but not bad either. The seafood scampi, however, was very bland and lacked the flavor I expected, especially for the price. One of the main reasons we chose this restaurant was to enjoy the view of the lake. Before being seated, we were told we would have a table right by the water. That didn't happen. Later, we noticed a lakeside table open up and asked if we could move, but was denied. The service also left a lot to be desired. Our waitress checked on us only once shortly after the food arrived. After that she essentially disappeared until it was time to hand the bill. Meanwhile, we watched her regularly check in on other tables. Both of our water glasses sat empty for quite a while, and no one came by to offer refills or see how everything was. I don't know what it was but looking back, I was too generous even tipping her at all! Even an average Chinese buffet server gives better service! There's no way they'll see me again. I regret giving them my money.

I said you browse; I'll stand out here in the shade. Then I spied the sign for Chateau on the Lake, which said they were open for Happy Hour between 2:00pm and 5:00pm. So, I sauntered down Allens Alley towards the Chateau. Place was empty, except for the bartender. I announced I was here for Happy Hour, but was informed it's not really a Happy Hour, it's just that bar is open for business. Okay, I'll have a Heineken ($8). Then I went out back, sat in the shade, enjoyed my beer, looked at beautiful Lake George, and waited for the wife to call and say she was done browsing.

The problem came at the end of the meal. A few menu items were listed at market price, so we specifically asked what they would cost before ordering. Everyone at the table heard the same number. When the check arrived, however, the amount charged was substantially higher than the price we had been told. Thinking it was simply a misunderstanding, we brought it to our server's attention. Instead of discussing it, he immediately became argumentative. The conversation quickly became uncomfortable ruining what was otherwise a great experience. We later spoke with the manager to say how we did not appreciate how we were treated. Unfortunately, that conversation didn't go much better. There seemed to be little interest in hearing our side of what happened, and no effort was made to find a solution. What made the experience even more disappointing was we were celebrating my son's birthday and had noted it on the reservation in advance. There was no acknowledgment of it during the evening, which by itself would not have been a big issue. After the interaction over the bill, though, it added to the feeling that we simply weren't valued as guests. By the time we left, the entire mood had changed. We had planned to walk down to the lake and take family photos, but instead we just headed home. Good food can only carry an experience so far. What people remember is how they're treated. In this case, the service and management response overshadowed everything else. For comparison, the night before we had dinner at La Bella Vita at The Sagamore and had an amazing experience. There, the staff was welcoming, the service was attentive, and we left feeling appreciated.
