I always enjoy coming to Brunetto's on special occasions. Keep a close eye on their menu as well as their open hours, which fluctuate regularly. Always make a reservation, often times if you show up without one, they're booked for the night. The food is really fantastic for the most part, though not everything on the menu deserves that praise. The environment, is warm and inviting, adding to the overall experience. The mussels as a starter are a must have, and as for your entree, place attention to the dishes that are most recommended by others. We went there at 6:30 on a Friday ordered a glass of wine each, the waitress brought then within 1 minute and almost apologized for the delay. We both had a garden salad(huge) and PEI mussels. We should have gotten one order for the two of us, but didn't know how many were in the order. There were more than 90 mussels in each order thus a lot were taken home. When I first started dating my bf, he claimed that this was the best restaurant he's ever been to and snobbishly compared everywhere we ate with Brunetto's. It wasn't until I went there for the first time for his birthday two years ago that I understood the love, haha! It's definitely a special occasion restaurant with prices between 20-40 depending what you get. Every meal that I have ordered has been delicious, and come in really big portions, so you do feel like you're getting a lot for your money. Last night we went there to take my bf's grandma out. We all ordered wine. She got a Sauvignon Blanc on special, the bf a very woodsy Cabernet, and for me a Zinfandel. Very good. I wasn't sure if I would like it, but our waitress let me taste a sample before pouring me a glass. Very good service throughout the night. The bf and her love the mussels and we all love the baked artichoke hearts. I forgot to take the picture of the full bowl of mussels, but you can see below how big it is! It's $14 and comes with soooo many mussels! They come in a delicious garlicky broth and some hot bread to sop it up. Beware...there is serious garlic so be prepared! But so good. The artichoke hearts are deliciously cheesy, fresh, and baked till golden brown. (These were also eaten too fast before a pic could be taken! Lol!) I've ordered salmon and steak here..last time I got a New York strip steak with a basil pesto sauce, and the bf has ordered roast duck with warm raspberry sauce, venison, and the game sampler. His grandma likes the roast leg of lamb. Last night, she ordered the chicken schnitzel which was very tender, and it came with red cabbage, mashed potatoes, and green beans. The bf got the pork shank osco bucco with raspberry sauce poured all over it. Literally fall off the bone tender, and served with mashed potatoes and green beans. I had the bacon wrapped filet mignon with a Cabernet Demi reduction and a red pepper coulis sauce, which definitely had Indian spice influence. The beef was so tender (cooked medium rare to perfection) and a rather large piece! Also served with buttery golden mashed potatoes and garlicky green beans. I think it's the best piece of steak I've had. We finished our meal with coffee and tea. The owner has reportedly had Brunetto's for sale for quite a while and I sincerely hope last night was not the last time we will ever get to go there! So make the drive up north and treat yourself to a very special place! read more

Let me start off by saying there aren't many good restaurant options north of Saratoga. My parents have a house on Lake George and when we want to go out to dinner when we're up there but don't want to drive down to Saratoga, we only have a VERY short list of places we'll go to in this region and Brunetto's is at the top of that list! Brunetto's is located in a totally unassuming area right on Rt.9 and right off the Northway making it easy to get to. There aren't a ton of tables inside and on the weekends during the summer it is definitely tough to get in. Expect to wait. They do have a bar off to another area in the building, so there is somewhere to hang out when you're waiting for your table. The drinks are good and usually really strong. The menu on the weekends typically has around 20 or so options that rotate throughout the summer. There are typically some appetizers, salad options then main courses which include meat, fish & pasta. Some of my favorites are the tuna and the fried shrimp. Everything else my dining companions have gotten (other fish dishes, meat, etc) have always been well received. The quality of the food is always good and everything is fresh. The portions are also huge. I would be shocked if anyone could finish one of their dishes in one sitting. Once when my brother ordered a steak dish my jaw literally dropped at how much steak was on his plate. The service here is always good. The servers are friendly and attentive. It can be a little slow to get main courses sometimes but that can be overlooked. One of the things I actually appreciate about Brunetto's is that kids are not very welcome. Call me crazy but when I'm dining at 8pm on a Friday I don't want children screaming around me, and the owners here seem to agree (thanks!). The prices are really fair for the quality and quantity. Sometimes we are perplexed that they're actually making money. If you're looking for a great meal in the Lake George area, look no further! read more

This place came highly recommended by an employee from Chic's Marina. While we ended up waiting past our reservation time, the bar and outdoor seating were more than accommodating. Our server Fran was fantastic. Extremely fun, engaging and just a beyond genuine person. The pot of mussels is unreal and massive. When this cat came out i was beyond shocked. Well over 100 mussels in a very clean broth with crusty bread. Instant winner. The wedge salad was pretty standard but massive. Rather than chopped bacon, there were just full bacon strips on top. The field and stream was tasty. Trout cooked nicely although I typically prefer crispy skin. The duck was tender as well My wife ordered the chicken parm which was an odd choice. While the chicken itself was tender and juicy, the tomato sauce was just not a favorite of ours. Tollhouse cookie pie to finish the meal was delicious. We would definitely come back. read more

We figured this was a safe bet based on the reviews, boy were we wrong. We made a reservation for Friday night and we're promptly seated. After a quick glance at the menu we opted to skip paying $4 for bread, and ordered a couple salads and the fresh trout and the hake (menu says it's outstanding!) the menu was wrong. The trout was prepared with lemon, garlic and white wine; the garlic was raw and the fish was over cooked.. that alone is an impressive feat. There was no flavor and no redeeming quality to the dish at all. The hake was prepared baked with breadcrumbs, butter and wine.. it also was overcooked, and completely lacking in flavor. Twenty minutes after getting home, I was sick to my stomach. On the slightly positive side there were tables full of people raving about the mussels and no fishy or overpowering smells so maybe we ordered the two worst dishes on the menu. Came in last night for dinner and had an amazing time all around. They will allow you to all ahead for tables of 6 or more so we did that and were seated within 15 minutes of arriving. It was about 8pm and they had run out of tuna and only had 2 orders of mussels left so we quickly ordered those before they ran out. The mussels are a must! They are a huge serving enough for all 6 of us to have! I then had the duck and asked for the pickled cabbage as a side. So good! The outside was crispy and the inside was moist. Maybe I am more used to a faster paced urban dining environment, but we ordered a medium rare lamb shank and it took about an hour to arrive. This was in April during the off season, so I suppose I would need to call about 24 hours ahead if I wanted a medium-well-done lamb meal during the peak season. Of course, the wait could have intentionally been part of a long con game to get the customer to pay $4 for the bread during the wait, which is about $4 more than what another restaurant with a similar pretense of quality would charge for bread. read more

The chef/owner has some great new additions to the appetizer selections, making it very difficult to narrow down your choice....I think this restaurant is the best in the LG area...only complaint, needs to be opened 7 days a week.... Scallops were delicious, enough to bring home for lunch today...bruschetta not to be missed, calamari nice and crispy.... Last night at 9 pm a large group came in, with children ranging from infants to young school aged children. The group left, thought they were treated rudely....do ya think maybe fine dining at 9 pm at night is fair to the other diners???? The hostess/maitre'd sucked. Half the tables were empty and we still waited about 20 minutes to be seated, and the hostess barely spoke a word to us. So we went to the bar for a drink first, and the bartender was awesome. She made great drinks and was super-friendly. Once we finally got seated, the waitress was on point and knew the menu preparations very well. The food portions here were gigantic! I was in a party of 6, and though I don't remember everything we ordered, I do recall everyone being quite pleased with their meal. Most people had doggie bags to take home, too! This restaurant is a rare gem. The atmosphere is very quaint. Who knew there was so many food surprises! Amazing tastes! Large portions. The Mussels in Garlic and Caprise Salad was so yummy and so fresh. Be forewarned there is not a kids menu, but if they are adventurous to try new things the chicken spetzle taste like chicken cutlet and very moist and tender. They will love it! Despite the name, this is strictly a restaurant, not a motel. The food is upscale American cuisine and is consistently great. The food is five stars - expertly prepared, and without a doubt tasteful and very impressive. The menu varies frequently, drying up on the best ingredients in season at the time. However, a place that expects to attract clientele as high caliber as the food should be equipped to take reservations. Not taking reservations is pretty unacceptable for a place like this, and will cause me to consider other options in the future. There is also a funky/musty smell by one of the entrances - not a good way to greet customers and make a good first impression.
