Rooftop bar is awesome but what happened to all the German food! Used to have schnitzel assortment and now it's just American and Italian.

We stopped for coffee earlier in the day and had a craving for wings and beer. Since we were in Sparta, we stopped in to Krogh's. Our server Day gave me 3 different beers to try before I settled on their Three Sisters Golden Ale while hubby opted for Sullivan's Irish Stout. We ordered the traditional wings and split a delicious brisket burger with American cheese and fries. All the classics with the brews. The bar was full of happy people and the vibes were joyous. They have a great menu, be sure to stop in and grab some food and awesome cocktails. When the weather is nice, you can sit outside or on the rooftop bar. The town is super cute! read more

It's been 20 years since I was last here and it was an amazing experience all over again like the old days . They expanded , have a bigger saloon , an outdoor patio and a rooftop now overlooking the beautiful lake Mohawk . Service was a big plus with Karen at the door and Brian at the bar , all in all a great vibe and positive atmosphere :) The food was great and I also tried the grapefruit ale and that was amazing . Two stars solely for the staff working and trying to make an effort. But the food and drinks I would give 1 star. It was horrible. We ordered cheese bacon potato skins. You get 3 for the price of $14. They were not cooked enough the potato but had ample cheese and bacon on top. We also ordered a dozen buffalo wings. They were cold and so dry it was terrible. Not to mention there were only 10 wings. Would not recommend as the food is horrible and overpriced. There is also a rooftop bar but trees completely block the lake view. There are much better spots to eat and drink so skip Kroghs. read more

Sparta, NJ - solid pub food & brewskis in a cozy log cabin tavern setting. We were recommended the wings so ordered a dozen: half garlic ranch and half Cajun dry rub, served with blue cheese. They're pretty meaty. I aced the food pyramid between the mac & cheese w/ short rib, fried brussel sprouts, and Three Sisters Golden Wheat beer I ordered (with a slice of orange). The brisket burger w/ cheddar & fries my husband had looked good, though he didn't understand why it didn't automatically come with lettuce & tomato, as he's a traditionalist when it comes to burgers. Service was friendly and family friendly. All in all a very satisfying meal. The restaurant is housed in a historic building right across from Lake Mohawk, and the rooftop bar is open seasonally with a view toward the lake. read more

What a great vintage place to go anytime. We went on a Friday afternoon after cutting the Christmas tree down. My daughter recommended it. You walk into a step back in time with carved chairs and log walls. Very cool. We were 4 plus my 1 year old granddaughter. Everyone had a burger except me. I had a bratwurst sandwich. The burgers were cooked perfectly and were big and juicy. My bratwurst was flavorful and also delicious. The sweet potato fries were the best I ever had. We did have a French onion soup that was loaded with onions and piping hot just the way I like it. The service was friendly and prompt. I highly recommend you try this place. Enjoy. read more

It's a really cool looking restaurant rustic with a very nice bar when the weather is warmer there is a rooftop area drinks only no food served up there. The servers hostesses and bartenders are always extremely pleasant and nice to deal with. We have been here many times today we had buffalo wings, brussels sprouts French dip sandwich and a Greek salad. The Greek salad was OK. The wings are always very good. The French dip was very good and the brussels sprouts were excellent. I tried a couple of the local beers and IPAs and unfortunately again don't love their beers, but I keep trying new ones all in. I definitely will be back . Just wish I could find a beer there that I like I do recommend a visit. read more

According to my 10 year old, our meal was delicious! Sat in a nice booth. She had kids steak and fries. $16 and it comes with a drink and a scoop of ice cream. I had a burger well done with fries. The fries were epic. We ate them in silence, that's how good they were. My burger was done exactly how I like it. My daughters steak was supposed to be medium and it looked more rare. She didn't complain though and said it was tasty. Service was spot on! Helpful but not overbearing. read more

I just had my daughter's bridal shower in The Gallery room at Krogh's and it was WONDERFUL! From my first phone call with Jason, to the planning with Shannan and our server Kate the day of, I cannot say enough about the staff and how well they took care of our guests. The food was fantastic and the atmosphere at Krogh's was warm, welcoming and friendly, as always! Even though it was a cloudy gray day, the huge windows in the room show off gorgeous Lake Mohawk & everyone kept commenting on what a great place we picked for our party! On a side note, something I really love about Krogh's is their commitment to local charities. They have a semi-rustic dining area called the" Gallery" and a rooftop bar called the "Krogh's Nest" which affords a view of scenic Lake Mohawk. Louvered windows & doors allow an open air experience, as well as, an outdoor patio. The brewery is adjacent to the restaurant while the bar area is comfortable, charming and reminiscent of days gone by. Krogh's is also pet friendly to well trained dogs which Oatie appreciates. Oatie and I stopped by on a beautiful Autumn day for a quick bite. I had the Cheesesteak Sandwich ($18). Sauteed peppers & onions, slices of cheese served on a Ciabatta roll. If you ever want to feel like a pirate after a long day of sailing quelling scallywags and hoisting the sails, this is the perfect dinner spot for you. I felt like having a grog or two with my buddies. Our service was great, very attentive and helped clean up the water that was spilt everywhere. Shoutout to the guy with the mop he's the man. The place is nice and dark with some one of a kind decor all around, bathroom extremely tiny but it gets the job done. The nachos were fabulous, a little more cheese and I'd say they were perfect. My burger was cooked perfectly and all six of us finished our food completely after the nacho appetizer. After our eats we set out to walk down by the lake board walk to pretend to be pirates like we had felt in the ambience of the restaurant. Nice old pub atmosphere. The wait staff is friendly and attentive. The food is always good without all the unnecessary frills. They offer a wide variety of anything you would expect from an old town tavern type atmosphere. The beer choices are endless. The only draw back is parking in the center of Lake Mohawk. read more

I always check the worst review before checking the best. In this case I found the worst very strange. This place was awesome! Friendly service, great bourbon selection and I didn't find it loud even though it was pretty full. The butternut squash soup was delicious, and the vegetarian nachos are fantastic. They were loaded with black beans, onions and peppers. A complete meal. Definitely worth a try and if we're ever in this neck of the woods we'll be back. PS. I was visiting a friend at Lake Mohawk, and she took a group of us to dinner at one of her favorite local spots, Krogh's Restaurant. The place was a historic mainstay of the town and seemed to be a real gathering spot for locals and visitors alike. In fact, it must have been very popular, because they added on a new wing that included an indoor dining area, a rooftop space, and a patio for extra space. We sat on the patio and looked into the more modern indoor addition, which we found too sterile (like a nursing home cafeteria) in comparison to the original, quaint inn just beyond it. Our server was a real sassy lady that we truly enjoyed chatting with. She made sure to check in on us frequently, though our food took quite some time to arrive. I had ordered the Arugula & Golden Beet Salad, which included those two ingredients, as well as chunks of fresh goat cheese, mandarin orange slices, and pine nuts (I omitted red onion), all in a sweet and homemade orange-raspberry vinaigrette. I also added Grilled Chicken to the dish, and they provided a generous amount of it. I really enjoyed the salad, which was hearty and flavorful. After finishing our entrees, we just had to sample their famous mud pies for dessert. Since we were already rather full, we wound up sharing a single slice of the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Mud Pie, which came as a massive piece that was certainly large enough to provide a few spoonfuls for each of us. The pie started with a chocolate graham cracker crust, which was topped with a thick layer of chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream, chocolate fudge, and whipped cream; it was HEAVENLY!! This is a review that all restaurants should read. You should save a handful of tables for walk ins. Your a bar and grill- there should not ever be a situation where you have to turn patrons away. I saw empty tables but they are for reservations. I have been turned away twice from Kroghs and have no plans to ever go back - a place that can't take a family of 4 at 6pm!!! Came here with a coworker and will definitely be coming back. Service was excellent! Both the ladies that helped us were extremely friendly and attentive. The food was good as well! I had the french onion soup and the hawaiian pizza. The french onion soup was ok. Not the best I've had but not the worst. The hawaiian pizza was great though! The crust was excellent and the toppings were in good portion. As for the atmosphere, I arrived when the restaurant wasn't so busy so we had our choice of seats. We chose to sit in the area with lots of windows and sunlight and the view of the lake was beautiful (despite parked cars being in the way). I would definitely be coming back with other family and friends to try some other dishes. read more
