Easily the worst food I've had in Rhode Island. I ordered the chicken parm. Chicken came out over cooked and the pasta came out undercooked. When they remade it, at least the pasta was fully cooked this time but the chicken was like trying to chew leather. We went for restaurant week today. Our server, who was also bartending, was lovely and kind. However, this was probably one of the worst meals I have had in my life. My boyfriend ordered the hot honey chicken sandwich after being told they were out of the beef shank. The sandwich came, and it was tiny and very dry. It was 3 pieces of flat chicken with burnt caramelized onions on top. I ordered the fresh wagon wheel pasta bolognese. I was SO excited for this. When it came, the bolognese sauce was ok, but the pasta was disgusting- doughy and undercooked (not even sure how you do that with fresh pasta!). I didn't say anything about the pasta, but my boyfriend said something about the sandwich after the server asked if he didn't like it. He took it off the bill, which was very kind. In all fairness, it was Christmas Eve. We knew there would be a few snags. Forget a few, 10 out of 11 dinners were horrible. To start, a one hour wait for a cocktails. Even went to bar to retrieve( they hadn't been made yet). Appetizer of pizza on a cold pita was disgusting. My shrimp appetizer were no larger than peel and eat. A vegan meal loaded with cheese (he never ate that night). Mashed potatoes were a cold brick. Dried out swordfish with no sauce or artichokes as stated. Have pictures of it all, wrote restaurant with no response. We cleared our own table for the courses ( empty table stacked with dishes and uneaten meals from the previous patrons. I had the Chicken Parmesan over Penne Marinara - $21.00 - It was a HUGE portion, but the chicken was overcooked on the ends and so dry. I couldn't finish it, but we couldn't take us with us as we were in the hotel. I agree, the sauce was watery. It had a good flavor, but too dry on the ends. I have to agree with another Yelper - there was no warmth from any of the servers. Everyone seemed to not want to be there. Our server was a bit brusque, and we had to wave her over to get her attention the check. We visited recently and upon entering there was shrimp scampi spill on the floor. The manager came over and cleaned it up with a rag, no sanitizer. As we left there was still some on the floor. I thought it was a little gross. Our server was very nice and attentive. He made sure our drinks were full and checked in frequently. We both ordered our usual order (burrata ravioli in pink vodka sauce). It was delicious. We also split a dessert. It was a brownie with marshmallow and s'mores ice cream. The brownie itself was hard (think brownie end piece). The ice cream and marshmallow was very good. Overall food was good. The place could have been cleaner. Service was friendly. First and foremost...they were open on Christmas Day!!! What a delightful bonus that was. My wife and I made reservations, which given that it was Christmas Day was the smart thing to do. The garlic mashed potatoes while pretty run of the mill were still very tasty. The Mac 'n cheese...maybe I've been living under a rock, but that was some of the best Mac n' cheese I've ever had! My wife's eggplant rollatini was stellar. For dessert we had the sampler which had cheesecake, key lime pie, chocolate cake with marshmallow and vanilla ice cream, and tiramisu. Some friends and I decided to try out this restaurant for a bit of a celebratory dinner. It was new to us all. If you don't feel like reading on, I'll say now that I would definitely go back! Especially to save some room so as to try some of their dessert. For the details: Pulling in I was somewhat skeptical. Perhaps it was the rainy weather but things seemed a bit gloomy, especially from the back parking lot. The atmosphere quickly cheered though on entering this establishment. Warmly lit, cozy, dark woods. We were seated immediately and quickly had an order in for a very affordable bottle of cabernet sauvignon. Out of the great many menu options, we landed on a Grilled Margherita Pizza with Pepperoni as an appetizer. I enjoyed it quite a bit! Nice crispy crust and the cheese blend had a nice tang to it. I ordered the Penne Cardinale with Shrimp and found myself a huge fan of the sauce. I powered through and ate most of the dish, delightfully full by the meals end. My dinnermates ordered the Fresh Spinach Ravioli, Wagon Wheel Rigatoni w. Bolognese, Basic & Parmesan, and the Zuppa di Portuguese. All plates came with rave reviews - especially the Zuppa. I say this very rarely but we could have used a couple more check ins throughout the meal. We had our orders in pretty quickly towards the beginning but likely would have ordered another bottle of wine to share for the 2nd half of the meal. Basically a few pieces of fatty, tough and tasteless meat over a plate of French fries! Terrible. My daughter got the chicken parm and side of pasta it was ok not bad. Needed more cheese but over all had ok flavor. The pasta was way over cooked. Then for dessert I had the cheese cake. It was a tiny round premade previously frozen piece of cheesecake it tasted like freezer burn and it was sour. My daughter had the ice cream with biscotti. The ice cream was good but a hard biscotti doesn't really go with ice cream IMO. We were in from out of town it was right across the street from our hotel. read more

I am disappointed to share this updated review based on my most recent visit. It's a shame because I really like the taste of the dishes here and the place looks classy enough without being too expensive. Extensive wine selection, too. Their offer being in Groupon should help them get more people in to see what they are about. My disappointment in the last visit was entirely on the service (or lack of) it. I so looked forward to a relaxing evening after a day of stress at work. I convinced my husband to come with me, promising a lovely time. I am not sure if it's because the restaurant is nearly empty--we arrived at a little past 8PM. There were 3 tables occupied plus one outdoor. We sat near the entrance to the kitchen. There was a faint bathroom odor that we can smell. That was a turn off. Still, we ignored this. There were two servers. There was a bartender/manager? The servers acted like they didn't want to be there or didn't really like their jobs; just going through the motion. Our server did not introduce himself or welcome us. Just came over with two glasses of water and kept his responses very spare. No warmth, whatsoever. We asked for bread and he replied: "I'll get you some more" (we just arrived and have not had any...) We had to wait and search for him to ask for butter. We ended up asking the other server. Waited and when we saw she was attending to another table, we waved to our server, whom we saw at that time. She then cuts us with: "I'll get it" and then turns to her customers and says: "I am sorry". As if she felt we caused her to interrupt her service. We were confused. If we were attended to, then we wouldn't have to keep awkwardly scanning the room to find our server. I was determined to make this experience work so I focused on the food and tried to ignore the lackluster service. In the past, I would order flights but this evening, I did not even bother. My compliments to the Chef for turning out delicious food, though, as I remember. We ordered the sweet chili shrimp for appetizer (scrumptious!), the Braised Beef Short Rib, and "Simply Fish" with swordfish being the catch of the day. The fish was delicious. The Braised Beef needed a bit more flavor. The service was not a match to what this place is trying to project. The food was really good, though, but I am not doing take outs. I was there for a sit down dinner, looking for experience. As we left , no one was around, we saw the three workers by the bar and my husband said: "Bye. Thank you". Awkward. No one bothered to acknowledge us or to even say: "Bye. Have a good evening. Thanks. Hope to see you again."--something to make us feel welcome and appreciated. I cannot get out of there fast enough. I am sorry but it feels like, with the way the servers acted that evening, as if there's something we don't know. That perhaps they are just going through the motions because this place will not be there for long. I have been there 5 times in the last two years. I went to Tavolo during the Providence Restaurant week, where the deals were absolutely killer! My boyfriend and I got a 3 course meal for around $30-35 each and the volume of food was almost too much! For starters, I got the caprese and my boyfriend got the fried risotto ball. Both were a little small, but of course, it's an appetizer, so nothing to complain about. They tasted great nonetheless. The pork Osso bucco that I got was very soft and juicy, and while the risotto underneath was a little bland, the sauce on the pork was very good. My boyfriend got the steak and it was also a very big portion and seared nicely, but also a little plain in taste. The drinks there were very good, I got a nice gin cocktail and my boyfriend got a margarita-I wish I had tried their wines! The restaurant itself was not very crowded - being by the airport, I assume the traffic is a little slower than it is closer to the heart of providence. However that meant the food came out quicker and we got to chat with the waiter :) i would definitely recommend coming here for a quieter dinner during restaurant week! read more

It was an upsetting experience for our party of four. We have all been to Tavolo in Warwick, RI before and our experiences were good. This time, it did not please us with my evening being the most unacceptable. We arrived and were seated in the requested area so that was wonderful. We each began with a salad and our two guests along with my husband and myself were disappointed in the very small size of the Caprese salad and the Beet salads. We awaited bread and finally asked a young man who brought us four half slices. We were told that we were lucky that we got that as they were all out of bread for the evening. That was frustrating as each of us was looking forward to have some with our entrees. Our two guests were satisfied with their eggplant entrée and the chicken parm entree. My husband had the Osso Buco which was rather fatty but he ate what he could and took a little home. My entree, the short rib was full of fat from the first bite and I could not even cut most of it with my serrated knife. When our server came to check on us, I told her and she offered to get me another entree; I chose Ravioli Bolognese which was good, except for not having bread to accompany it. However, the other three were eating and I knew I had to wait for the replacement so I asked to be able to enjoy the string beans that were on my plate with the short rib. I was told that my dish had to be returned to the kitchen to present the problem. I asked that some string beans be brought back to me as I was hungry. I waited quite a while and the replacement entree finally arrived - with no concern for my request for the string beans. I was then told they couldn't do that. In just a few words, the evening was clearly not to my liking. However, I will say that when I requested to speak to someone other than our waitress, a very kind person listened to the problem and she apologized for all of it and my meal was removed from the check. read more

We were staying at the hotel across the street and didn't feel like getting back in the car after the long drive to Rhode Island today. The ambience here was nice. Nicer than a typical Italian restaurant in the back of a pizza shop but not so formal and stuffy that you felt you should have dressed up the server was attentive. We had eggplant rollantini which was more interesting than typical because it also had asparagus and roasted peppers inside with the cheese. We also had the pappardelle in vodka sauce. we had a reservation at 645pm. the restaurant was not busy at all, we waited for 10minutes at the hostess stand for someone to come sit us, or even GREET us!! throughout the entire dining experience, we had to grab our servers attention for our drinks, appetizers and meal, as he continued to walk past us several times without once asking how it was, or if we were ready to order. I ordered filet mignon medium and even confirmed with the server if it would be cooked medium. my steak came out raw. again, I was waiting for over 10 minutes for our server to come back. AGAIN, my husband had to get his attention to tell him it was undercooked. once it came back out, it was still undercooked.... It tasted charred and had no flavor. felt like I was eating char from the grill. $40 for an undercooked, flavorless filet is crazy. once it came time to pay (you guessed it) we had to get his attention again!!!! (He continued to walk past us). We got so sick of waiting and were so disgusted, we had to ask a bus boy for a to go box as our server was nowhere to be found. You get a full plate of mussels cooked in a white wine sauce with onion and garlic. They serve it with toasted & buttered bread on top that is heavenly to dip into the mussel sauce. For the main courses, I had the pappardelle with vodka sauce and it was incredible. The sauce was creamy and seasoned perfectly. My partner got the salmon and it was not good. It tasted like fried chicken and the avocado mixture underneath it tasted very off - the flavor pallette of the whole dish was just off. This is why I took a star off. read more

Oh I love Tavolo I've been coming here for the last 2 years. I always visit the Warwick location because I like their bartenders and have gotten used to them. I've tried multiple things on their menu but my tried and true entree is always always always the fresh ricotta cavatelli. Hot Italian sausage, Parmesan broth?? I've been eating this dish probably every other visit that I eat here and it has never failed my mouth or belly once. It's a hearty serving that you can honestly share with two people. It's really filling and if you share you can leave room for one of their delectable desserts. I always pair dessert with an espresso martini (dark no baileys) when I can I have tried both the tiramisu and affogato. Sometimes the restaurants offering coupons are not exactly top tier, but I really couldn't find anything to complain about with our experience! My pesto pasta was creamy, delicious, and piping hot. Their wine list is excellent and whatever we ordered was the perfect complement to our meal. Our server was very nice and accommodating, and they had several interesting specials. The ambiance was nice, it's a big restaurant and it was mostly older couples having dinner so it was really quiet and relaxing.
