Wow, my low carb diet went right out the window. I had to pick up some loaves of bread for my church. I called them late Thursday afternoon and needed them Friday morning. No problem. Having lived in Indianapolis for only 4 years, I consider myself unbiased. I've tried a countless number of baked goods from both, taken input from friends who grew up going to one or the other, and have spent many a night trying to decide who will rein supreme (not that it's important to anyone else but me). In my humble opinion, I'm going to have to call it a draw. They both offer their own specialties. For this review, I'm going to focus on Taylor's. I am always happy to pick up something from Taylor's, and though I live literally one mile from the Allisonville location, I never go. Why?! Cause I would quickly be up to triple my size. I called in a yesterday for my Fat Tuesday paczki order and they were able accommodate me, not that my order was big, but I know they're popular and sell out fast! I went to the bakery today, my first time, and walked right in with only a couple of people inside already. Decorated for Mardi Gras and with a smile were two workers eagerly available to assist me. While the one lady was looking up my order two other ladies asked if I'd been helped yet. Very nice and attentive! They have such a wide array of baked heavenly goodness. From donuts and danishes to cakes and cupcakes! It all looked and smelled so good! My paczkis were cheap compared to other bakeries I've shopped at previously. Will definitely be back to try other items for sure! Anyways, after dinner, my fiancé and I split each of the 3 paczkis (It's Fat Tuesday after all). This is my average of 2 visits. First visit was three stars. Place was busy but it was staffed for it. I got the high school girl that was pretty rude and the time it took to ring me up the other staff members were ringing up their 2nd wave of customers. I got a gift card and two sugar cookies. The sugar cookies were not good!!! Too powdery an tasteless. I know some sugar cookies are made like that but i like real sugar cookies. The ladies at marsh in castleton Clearwater make the best sugar cookies around. The second time was 4.6 stars. The older woman was very kind and professional. Always smiling. We ordered cupcakes which were amazing!!! I specially came because I had a real king cake from Mannys in New Orleans and was craving one. Now king cakes are all different down there so I wasn't expecting the same type of flavors but I was exciting an amazing king cake. It was good but not great. More like a cinnamon bun with light icing and some sparkles. Just taking of half a star for that. You can try it with filling too if you prefer. Every food item I have tried there is amazing. My favorite is their cream cheese coffee cake. The service on the other hand is not amazing. I have been there 5 times in the past year (bc their food is too good to pass up) and every time the employees seem like they don't want to be there and they make you feel rushed. I feel like I have to go in knowing what I want because they don't give you time to browse or they rush you and make you feel like you are wasting their time when you try to browse. read more

I worked with Taylor's Bakery to put together a huge client appreciation/office event where clients received pies as a thanks for working with/supporting us. I would 110% recommend Taylor's for ANY kind of large event involving baked goods. Here's why: -Our contact, Heather Hughley, was amazing. We ended up ordering 100 pies a week before Thanksgiving, and she didn't bat a single eye (at least that I know of!). She let us add on more pies to our order after we put the initial order in. Yay for flexibility! -THE PIES. The star of the show. We ordered apple, pumpkin, cherry and pecan. They smelled and looked amazing when we got them. -Clients who were on the fence about ordering got so excited when we told them the pies were from Taylor's- that's a for sure sign you picked a good bakery (although I'm not sure who would turn down a free Thanksgiving pie?!). -Taylor's delivered the pies at no cost to us. How's that for customer service?! -We got a discounted price for our huge bulk order of pies. I've never been into the physical Taylor's location, but this for sure put it on my map to stop in sometime soon. Side note- they also did the wedding cake for my cousin's wedding a few years back. The logo I gave them didn't work but they went online and pulled the logo for the website. They were extremely helpful and the price was about $3 a cookie. Obsessed. I have been meaning to write a review for Taylor's Bakery since June 2013 when they did my wedding cake. My mom and I had decided to divide/conquer the list of things we needed to do for the wedding/reception and we had gone to Taylor's together to do a cake tasting since we had heard such amazing things. We were totally sold when we left the store and decided to place the order. Long story short - each of us thought the other was responsible for placing the order and ultimately the day before my wedding I called Taylor's to check in relative to cake delivery and realized that I hadn't ordered my wedding cake! The staff at Taylor's was BEYOND incredible. They helped me through everything / made sure that I had the most GORGEOUS, delicious cake at our reception. I'm an Indianapolis native. I understand the history of Taylor's. BUT, I find it to be an overrated bakery. I've had many different items from there (e.g., cheesecake, custom-made sheet cake, sugar cookies, donuts, eclairs, and the individual cakes). The only thing that I've ever gotten that tasted better than what I could get from the Marsh bakery were the donut holes. In addition to things being overpriced for its mediocrity, it kind of annoys me that the prices aren't listed. Sometimes when you inquire about the price for more than 2 things, service gets slightly less friendly. If Taylor's improved their quality to match the prices, or lowered the prices to match the quality, I would be a frequent patron. read more

As a penny-pincher on a tight budget, this worried me. I didn't know how much I could order. I nervously walked up to the counter, and ordered. This bakery has been around for years. It is usually good but I haven't been here in a while. Today I went in there and ordered donut holes, chocolate chip cookies and cupcakes. The donut holes were barely glazed and the cookies and cupcakes were frozen. I was very disappointed. If I wanted frozen desserts, I would have gone to the grocery store. I've bought a lot of stuff from Taylor's and its always been very good - not just good, but very good.
