We hired Taylor's for our fireplace remodel and were disappointed with the poor craftsmanship. We had to fix the issues ourselves after they "completed" the job. Photos attached is how they left it. Unfinished opening under the mantle, sloppy drywall work, trim damaged and left loose, hearth stone was set 3/8" above finished floor. They attempted to come back to address these issues with poor quality results. Ended up fixing it myself, Not why I hire a contractor to do a job. After speaking with the owner, we agreed upon a refund for the labor but have yet to receive it or hear back from them. That was in February. I do not recommend this business, there are much better options available that will provide professional quality results. read more

The original build out of our hearth doors from their vender came back less than adequate and Taylor's worked with us every step of the way to rectify the situation to our specifications - assuring us in their 20+ years of business they had not seen an issue like ours. No harm done especially with the attention to customer service. My fireplace wouldn't start, even though I had removed the batteries last spring to avoid corrosion. I called Taylor's and they spent 10 minutes troubleshooting with me. She said, "I trying to save you a home visit, because we are booked up until the end of January." So I tried one more time, and sandpapered the battery contacts with sandpaper wrapped around a pencil, and it WORKED! We looked around But found a nice selection at Taylor's. the owner Dennis did not pressure us at all and in the end Gave us free installation and a discount for buying A new enclosure and mantle together. Called one company and they were going to charge me quite a bit for a service call, but they also didn't have any time available for me because the fireplace and not been installed by them. I get labor shortages; truly I understand. However then I called Taylor's, spoke with Brian at length he said he couldn't come over but if I wanted to call him while I try to re-light the pilot light on the gas fireplace he would walk me through it on the phone. We probably spent a good 20-25 minutes on the phone, sending pictures back-and-forth and voilà it finally worked!! Taylor's staff is so very accommodating. They installed our fireplace in about 1 hour. They went over and explained what they were going to do. When there was an issue; they came right over to fix it ( it was a simple thing of replacing the batteries in the remote). We love our fireplace! Well, I am happy to amend my earlier review. I was upset that a relatively new $5000 unit malfunctioned, took 7 weeks to get an appointment, fixed, and then malfunctioned three weeks later. The technician came today, took the unit apart, and replaced a defective pilot. This was the same technician who was here for the first service call. Very courteous, thorough, and careful. He certainly had no control over a unit that seemed ok and konked out only a few weeks after the initial service call, and I'm happy to have a new one,in place. What I really have to commend this place on is their follow,up. It is never easy to call a customer who gives bad feedback, but this owner did. He was very polite, genuinely cared that I had concerns, and left me confident that this was a store I would want to return to and, more importantly, recommend to others. I am more than pleased with their product, service, and interest in their customers. And, I will recommend them to my friends. read more

I just had a gas Jotul stove installed by Taylors and was very pleased with the job they did. From the moment I first walked into the store, Penny made me feel very comfortable and answered all my questions regarding the stove. I felt like they gave me a good price on the unit and the installers were very professional as my direct venting was much more challenging than the average job due to the layout of my home. The price they estimated was the price I paid. I would definitely recommend them and I think they are only 1 of 2 places on the island that carry this brand. read more

The correct (and moral) thing to do would have been to contact me, find out what happened and try to make things right. Then, customers like us would update our reviews to more positive, after seeing you care. But instead, you decide to attack me personally? wow -- good luck staying in business in the age of social media and treating your customers like complete crap. I'm pretty sure you violated Yelp's ToS as well, although clearly ethics mean nothing to you anyway. ORIGINAL REVIEW: Completely unresponsive - never showed up or returned calls or emails. This company had no problem taking 50% as a non-refundable down payment, but when it comes to delivering, well, almost a year later and I'm still waiting. 10 phone calls over 3 months were met with "someone will call you back soon with an instal date." never a call back. 5 or more emailed inquiries ignored. After a large picture fell from the wall and hit the handles on our cast iron fireplace doors they would no longer close properly. Concerned that the doors were ruined and we would have to get new ones, we set up a service call with Taylor's in the hopes they could repair them. The technician showed up on time, and did an amazing job - not only is the damage repaired, but he doors actually open and close better than before the accident. Great service. read more

Was visiting family in the area and was out doing some shopping so I decided to stop in as I have been shopping around for a fireplace and wanted to see what Taylor's had to offer... I have to say, I don't understand the negative reviews this shop has received. I walked in the door and was immediately greeted by Penny, the receptionist, who could not have been more personable and helpful. I had to wait a few minutes as the salesman was busy with another customer but Penny walked me around the showroom and explained the various models they have and the differences between them. Brian, the salesman, was extremely helpful and knows his business! Although I will ultimately end up buying a fireplace up by me (in Dutchess County), the people at Taylor's were nothing but nice, friendly and extremely informative when it came to talking fireplaces. And this was with them knowing I lived too far away to actually buy anything from them!! It's hard to business with these guys if they aren't open when they say they are open. I have driven by their store three times in the last four days -- during posted business hours (posted on their front door, which is consistent with the hours posted on their web site). Each time, the place was dark, and the doors were locked. Earlier today, I called at 3:35pm and asked for store hours. The person on the other end said they were open until 4pm. Great service experience. I purchased my gas fireplace in December 2014. Penny was wonderful and helpful explaining the different types of fireplaces. My transaction and instillation dates were handled by Brian. No difficulties here either. The instillation crew was prompt, clean and courteous. In February my pilot light went out and I could not reset it. I called and was given instructions on how to reset. At that time they offered to come to my home and help me re set it. They showed up first thing the next day and re set pilot. They also took the time to go over the process with me.....all without a service charge of any kind!! read more
