Visiting from out of town and decided to try based on the positive reviews. Frankly I just hope it was an off day. Had chicken shawarma sandwich, falafel sandwich, and homos. The chicken was in a container and I threw half of the sandwich away. Tasteless and dry. The falafel was tiny and hard. The Humos was average at best. I can't say enough about this place! I have become a total addict since moving to an office in the Loop, and this place is luckily right down the street. In addition to the fresh, totally flavorful food (go for the gourmet falafel with jerusalem salad, lettuce, onion, hot sauce & tzatziki!), the owner and the employees are the friendliest bunch I've ever met in a restaurant. I have never NOT seen the owner there, and he greets me like an old friend, remembers when I haven't been in awhile, and always gives me a free piece of baklava, extra falafel, etc. Everyone there just makes the place feel so warm and friendly. Dont' be fooled by the 'hole in the wall' look to the place, the quality of the food far surpasses what the place looks like. I will keep going here until I no longer live in Chicago! read more

Made a large order for 50 people and everything went great. The delivery person knew the location so he knew how to get around, helped set up and most importantly was ON TIME. For someone that always has to make group orders like this we know the value of this!One thing I have to say is that when the containers came out I was a little concerned that there wouldn't be enough meat since the containers looked a little small but it was way more than enough and everyone enjoyed multiple plates (the sliced meat is deceiving). This is the best place I've found for a casual Mediterranean lunch in the loop. I got the chicken shawarma sandwich with sides of hummus and falafel. It came out quicker than a fast food restaurant, which is always a plus during a lunch break. The chicken had a little punch from the spices, the veggie ingredients were crisp and fresh, and the falafel and hummus complimented the sandwich flavors nicely. Always fresh and delicious food that won't cost you an exorbitant amount(a rare thing to find in a loop restaurant) staff is always courteous and friendly, even when they are busy. I was turned onto this place by coworkers years ago and have been hooked ever since. Ahammed (sp?), the owner, is a sweetheart and can be found working the line with all of his cute, smiling staff. He'll let you sample anything. Curious about the hummus? The baba ghanouj? The falafel? No problem, here's a nice sample. There have been times I've forgotten to order a falafel to find that A has placed one or two of them in my bag - gratis! Everything here is awesome. Delicious Middle Eastern food in the loop. The lunch-time crowd seems to grab their lunch to go, but we dined in. The decor is nothing special, but the food and the amazingly nice owner make it very pleasant. I had the "taza vege plate" which had salad, hummus, grape leaves, tabouli, falafill, and pita. It definitely hit the spot. My fellow diner, who is Middle Eastern, had the chicken shawarma plate which they said was excellent. The best part came after the meal when the owner chatted with us and then offered us complimentary baklava and Turkish coffee. It was a very nice touch to end our experience. Hiked across the loop to check out this falafel spot and was definitely not disappointed, got the falafel platter with hummus, side and a pita. Only thing a little lacking is would love to see some more veggies included to layer into your self-made sandwich. Interior simple, but does the trick for a quick lunchtime grab. Great lunch spot for Mediterranean food! Friendly staff and quick lines make it easy. I love the free falafel samples, the gimmick works because I always wind up buying two before leaving. Generous portions for $6-7 dishes. There are tables available but the long line and small space doesn't make lingering too enjoyable. Nevertheless, this place merits a weekly visit! read more

A friend and I ate here for lunch but was very disappointed. Pita bread cold. Food didn't taste that fresh. Also make sure not to sit in middle during the winter. The door opened every minute and the wind keeps on hitting you. Not sure I won't eat here again. read more

Great falafel and pita!

I'm no expert on Middle Eastern food, but I am ethnically Middle Eastern, and Taza is the first Middle Eastern restaurant I've been to in the loop that's as authentic as the food my mom makes. I honestly stumbled on Taza while walking along Franklin one day and had a craving for Chicken Shawerma with yogurt sauce. So I went in and got it. AMAZING. The place kinda has a gritty, hole-in-the-wall vibe, but the food is fantastic. They have all the fixings for a great sandwich (tomatos, cucumbers, lettuce, hummus, hot sauce, torshi, pickled turnips - and yes, the put all of these in my sandwich). The only thing I wasn't crazy about was the lentil soup. Different countries have their own variations on lentil soup, so maybe I just wasn't used to this type. Yo....this place is the bees knees my friend.. It's the only place I really go to now for lunch in the loop. The food is SO GOOD and is always SO GOOD. The prices are awesome (I'd say cheapest place around there besides McDonalds) and the staff is super nice and quick. I honestly can't think of anything bad to say about this place. Everything is just that good. Right now you can try 3 pieces of falafel for about $1.50. If it is your first time make sure you try these with whatever you order. I went here for the first time yesterday with a small group of coworkers. I was really impressed with the quality of the food, and the quick service. The manager checked in with us since we dined in, and he even provided us some complementary baklava which was quite tasty. I went there last week for lunch and got their Thursday/Friday special - a chicken, falafel, lentil rice, hummus, pita bread and jerusalem salad plate with fountain drink- all for under $9. It was delicious and I had enough left over to add with a salad for dinner later, so it's a good value too. Whether you are really hungry or a cheap SOB who uses lunch leftovers to make dinner, I recommend this place. read more

5 stars? SERIOUSLY? Were we at the same place? This place is gross. Everything was cold and tasted old and lacking flavor. It looked like it had been sitting out forever, then some guy walked by and sprinkled something on all of it and stirred it up a little ew, I guess to try and make it look more appetizing. The rice was extremely dry and very bland. The water machine was not working. The cleanliness and space where you eat is also subpar. The price seemed extremely high for the crap that I got. I love middle eastern food but I don't usually think to get it during lunch because I find that some things can be a bit heavier or could just be that I subliminally forget that there is anything outside of $12 salads, burritos and pizza. Not the best Mediterranean restaurant in Chicago, but the best in the loop. First, the service is excellent. The owner as well as the guys and girls who work there are helpful, friendly and always recognize the return customers. It's not unusual for the owner to throw in some extra falafel with your order. Some great healthy options (like turkey) as well as the regular favorites including excellent gyros. The biggest downside is that the hummus is hit or miss and the baba ghanoush is a bit too sour. I decided to check out Taza after reading all the rave reviews on Yelp, and I was not disappointed! This was probably the best falafel I have ever had--extremely crunchy on the outside and warm, soft and flavorful on the inside! The spicy red sauce and tahini are soo good and really give the falafel an added kick. The food was prepared quickly and it was really cheap too! Note: The chicken dishes are halal. We tried the chicken shawarma and while it was good, it didn't really compare to the falafel. Also, we tried the Boylan's grape soda, which is made with sparkling water and cane sugar, so it has a surprisingly strong kick and may not be for everyone! read more

My friend took me here about 4 years ago and I went today and they are just as good. Food is fresh, made right in front of you. The owner is always present and they will likely cut up a hot falafel for you while you're waiting. Today he gave me and my friend baklava! The owner and staff remembers their customers and commented that my friend has not been in a while because she's working farther away. Wonderful, fresh mediterranean/middle eastern food. Its not the best I've had. The honor goes to Babylon. But Taza gets 2nd place. It is also the best schwarma I've found in the loop. this place is OUTSTANDING. It represents everything that authentic, non chain restaurants are about. The lentil soup is not filled with 10 million pounds of salt like everywhere else. It is obviously homemade. The babaganous tastes like real eggplant. The owner - I think its the owner - actually talks to you and takes your order. All the service people are very friendly, including the cashier woman. They obviously like serving people. I am vegan, work in the merchandise mart, and find this the only decent place near the Mart. Everywhere else is a chain restaurant with the food having no taste. Run, don't walk, here. read more

After taking a stroll on such an unusually warm day, I decided to stop at Taza's for lunch. It's a cute small place with very friendly service. I decided on the kifta sandwich and while I was paying for my lunch the cashier tossed in a free falafel into my bag. I thought it was a nice gesture. The kifta sandwich was delicious! That fafel was pretty darn good as well. All the spices worked well and the kicker is the hot suace they serve with the sandwiches. It's not too hot at all but adds another dimension of flavor. I don't know why it took me so long to walk into Taza's but I am so glad I did today. I went during off lunch hours so the line was extremely short. I can not wait to try the other menu items and am looking forward to becoming a regular here. read more

Don't judge this book by it's cover. This is one of my favorite loop lunch spots! Sure, It's a small cramped restaurant with seating for about 20 (if that many). Sometimes you'll even see a line out the door (dont be discouraged service is fast), granted that line happens partly because the place is so small but the food is no joke. Their Gyros is very flavorful. Their pitas; i've tried their grilled chicken and their roasted chicken, both are very good. Their falafel is nicely fried, crispy and crunchy (on the) outside, but moist and soft inside! It's simply the best falafel around! They tipically have samples for you to try while waiting in line, which is obviously a plus. Their lentil soup is very good too. For about $7-8 you get a drink, a sandwich with as many toppings as you'd like, and a falafel or 2 on the side. Trust me, the price is right, service is friendly & fast, and the food is great.
