I honestly wish I can give more than 5 stars. In short, my now fiancé and I are extremely lucky that we were referred by a friend and met an incredible jeweler like Jon. He is absolutely talented, trustworthy, honest, and super passionate about his field of knowledge and work. I never thought it would be so easy. Getting ready to buy an engagement ring, I started asking people I knew that recently went through the process where they got their ring. TDC was highly recommended, so I figured I should drive out there from downtown. I met the owner on a saturday morning and felt very comfortable. He educated me on the things i should focus on when buying a diamond (i had a small amount of knowledge from online researching, but its so much easier to understand in the store). I had some ideas of what my g/f wanted and he was able get a nice variety for me to pick from. When i came in for the purchase, he had about 6 diamonds laid out in the quality and price range i was looking at. Sure enough, even as he was bring them over, one stood out right away. I looked them all over for a bit but finally said, "i really like that one, what do you think?" and his response "I think you have a good eye." There was never a push to make me buy the one at the highest end of my price range, it was all about "the one" that stands out. I was thrilled! The store is tucked away into a medium size Northwest Suburban mall (lifestyle, not a dated enclosed one) along with some other major anchor stores. The floor space isn't overwhelming, which is good, as it definitely accentuates their focus on providing an intimate customer/merchant experience. You'll find the common brands here but also some up-and-coming jewelry designers as well. Price ranges for their products vary dramatically so I think it is safe to say their is something for everyone here. They also have a custom side to their business which I don't know too much about but is definitely worth exploring for anyone seeking custom work. Ultimately, one of the most noteworthy attributes of TDC is their focus on the customer. From the moment you walk into their store, you become their focus. But take note: this is the type of attention that makes you comfortable, NOT the type that makes you squirm. While I wasn't around in the 40's and 50's, this style of service has a welcomed retro vibe to it. Should get zero! Awful customer service. We bought my wedding band here. It was a Simon G. When it broke- literally the largest paisley with yellow diamonds set into it cracked off while I was clapping- they insulted me. A woman said, "it's not that expensive of a ring anyway." If any amount of money spent is treated that way, it is clear the place doesn't respect it's clients. This is the most important piece of jewelry I will own and I love it. I just wanted it repaired- without being disrespected. I was actually speechless. It's not like I asked them for a new ring. I had the piece that broke off. Awful. And Simon G should be appalled at TDC. Another jeweler gladly helped me with kindness and understanding. I will never be back. Save yourself. They'll take your money. That's it. UPDATE: I was going to let this go, but I can't. I have NOT owned this ring for several years. I have been married for TWO years, so that's how long I owned it before it broke. The owner of TDC never asked (when I called him back), but in his response here made it seem like I had some old piece of jewelry I wanted fixed. (And, even if I did - they should still be nice and concerned about it!) How about an, "Oh my goodness, that's awful. You must be so upset." NOT a judgement on the piece I purchased. After many visits to a variety of jewelers all around Chicagoland looking for the perfect engagement ring, we found TDC after a quick Yelp search. Scratching our heads wondering how we could have missed this jeweler who was just a couple of store fronts down from our local grocery store, we ventured in. We were promptly greeted by Jon who was assisting a long-term customer (repeat business is always a good sign). We browsed the selection of engagement rings as he wrapped up with the woman before us and prepared to settle in to try a variety of rings looking for the one. Jon patiently presented a variety of bands as he tried to get a sense of my future fiancee's style (oops... Should've given a spoiler alert there). We'd been to several jewelers before being referred to TDC. When purchasing an engagement ring one can be very anxious and excited. When we stopped in and talked to Jon we gave him an idea on what we were looking for and our budget. Once my then future fiance explained to Jon what she wanted I set up an appointment to look at some diamonds. This is where TDC is different from the other Jewelers we've been to. At other places they always seemed to pull out the most expensive stones possible and try to hard sell you. Jon had the carat weight we wanted and shipped in several stones with the best cuts possible varying in carat weight (yet extremely close to what we wanted) clarity and color. I was able to stay within reason to our budget and didn't get a hard sell on something more expensive. I truly feel that I got more for my money than if I had bought a ring in the loop and shipped it out of state. There isn't the huge markup on what they sell. I currently live in Cleveland, OH and about a month ago I purchased an engagement ring from TDC Jewelry. Prior to then, I was working with a couple other private jewelers, neither which I got a good vibe from. My fiancée and I were looking for wedding bands so we went to our neighborhood jeweler, TDC. My fiancée liked a narrow wedding band with smaller diamonds around the top half of the band and I liked a tungsten band. We asked if the rings could be engraved and Jon, the owner, stated that wouldn't be a problem and quoted us a price for the engraving. Jon stated my fiancée's ring would need to be resized to fit her small finger. He stated that was a good thing because the diamonds, which at the time only covered half of the band, would now cover more of the band (roughly 75%) due to the reduction in the circumference of the ring. Prior to the purchase of the rings Jon was very accommodating and it seemed he would be able to provide us with quality rings and service. We felt happy with our decision. I called Jon a couple of weeks after we purchased the rings to see if they were delivered and to ask about the engraving. Jon told me he had the rings, yet he wasn't sure if he could engrave the tungsten ring. He stated the tungsten ring was a hard metal and "probably could not be engraved". He also stated that the inscription on my fiancée's ring would "probably" need to be done by hand and that would increase the cost. To top it off, he stated he wouldn't be able to confirm any of the information for another week. When I expressed my disappointment with this, he became annoyed that I wanted to have my wedding rings soon and stated, "You have plenty of time before your wedding to pick up the rings." I asked Jon why he didn't tell me any of this information prior to us purchasing the rings and he stated "I don't sell many tungsten rings and I wasn't familiar with them". To make matters worse, when my fiancée tried on her ring, the diamonds did not stretch around as Jon had described (they still only covered 50% of the ring). The quality of service that Jon provided was poor. I would have been satisfied if Jon would have told us, prior to purchase, that he was not well versed in tungsten rings or engraving, and if he had not led us to believe something about my fiancée's ring that he couldn't deliver. I went to TDC to rework the design of an existing ring and also to help me design a new ring that would include the birthstones of my two boys. Jon worked with his goldsmith to develop new rings for me that were all beautiful. The birthstone ring was a huge effort as we went through several different designs that ultimately had problems - Jon was very patient as I figured out what designs I wanted, advised me on what is practical for long term wear, and he was willing to take back rings after they had been worn in order to help me find a new design that would work. My fiance purchased my engagement ring at TDC Jewelry and I could not have been happier! We received great customer service from start to finish. They have a great selection in their store and they also make custom made jewelry. After much discussion my fiance and I decided to have my ring custom made. Their reasonable prices let us afford that. John worked with us throughout the process and made sure that we got way more for our budget. He helped us select the perfect diamond and the setting. It was also very timley-I believe it took about 2 weeks for my ring to be finished! Everyone who looks at my ring thinks its a lot bigger than it really is! I respectfully disagree - there is most certainly a right side and a wrong side to my bracelet. One side of the clasp ends is smooth and shiny - and one would want that facing outward; the other side has large, visable metal stamps on both ends, and, in my opinion, should be facing inward - however that in not the case with the way the charms were attached. Indeed - you did offer to redo the bracelet at cost but after paying that much money, I was not interested in spending another dime to correct your mistake. Also, I asked that no links be skipped when attaching the charms however two links were indeed left empty. To be fair, you did finally agree to fix this at no additional cost (which I declined as I was already thoroughly fed up) but it again speaks to the lack of attention and sloppy work TDC Jewelry provided. I have since had new charms added to the bracelet at another area shop with much better results. My friends, family, neighbors, and I will take our business where customer satisfaction is a priority and we will not return to TDC. read more

The service here is absolutely outstanding and all of the employees are extremely courteous towards me each and every time I come into the store. I have purchased necklaces for nieces, assorted jewelry for my mother, and most importantly I went to Jon for my engagement ring. Jon sat with me for almost 2 hours explaining the different grades of diamonds as well as going through the likes and dislikes of my wife in order to help me pick out the perfect setting.
