This is the best jewelry store to go to in Arlington Heights and the northwest suburbs! I worked with the owner, Jim, during most interactions there. This jewelry store is not like your typical commercially owned shop! The shop is adorable from the outside and when you walk inside, you the interior is very cozy and warm feeling. The pieces of jewelry they have on display are all gorgeous, intricate and unique. We had two sterling silver wedding bands hand-made for us and they are absolutely beautiful. I've also had my engagement ring resized here and Jim has been nothing but understanding about making it 'just right' for me. I originally went there just to shop for an engagement ring, but I will now be a life-long customer at Mitchell's. The owner, Jim, has been beyond patient with both me and my wife. He literally sat with me for over 2 hours, sketching pictures and carving plastic rings. He has an employee, Pam, who I wish I could buy a house or a car or something. Brought jewelry in for a repair quote. After not hearing anything for two weeks, I called them to see why I hadn't heard anything. Strangely, they were just about to call me. Ok. So then I was quoted for the wrong repair. Really? When called on it, he said he hadn't had his morning coffee yet. Wow. On top of that, the price I then got didn't even make sense to me. If you are looking for something unique that is an expression of you, then go see Jim at Mitchell's Jeweler's. He created a unique engagement ring with my husband after going over many design ideas, so it is one of a kind. When it came time for wedding bands, we thought of him first. We brought in ideas of a design we would like and he took our idea and first created a computer rendering of it. After we agreed we both liked the design, it was then cut into wax using a computer controlled machine. We were then able to see an actual 3D representation of what the rings would look like and hold them in our hands to examine them. The two rings were then cast together in the same mold to create our rings. They came out beautiful and we have never seen rings like them anywhere else. To help pay for the rings, we were able to trade in some old gold jewelry that was just sitting in a drawer and got much better prices than one of those places you see advertised on television. At Mitchell's Jewelers, you get great customer service and individual attention from both Jim and the rest of the staff. They don't try to sell you anything, they make sure you are getting exactly what you want. read more

We love Mitchell's Jewelers! We went to Mitchell's for my engagement ring and our wedding bands. They are trustworthy and honest jewelers who work on everything in house. Jim helped us design and customize my engagement ring and it is stunning. I get compliments from strangers on my rings at least once a week! Jim is truly an expert and he really cares about the quality of your purchase. There were a few design features I asked about that would have driven up the price of our rings but for durability and the quality of the product Jim advised against them. We so grateful that he cared about the longevity of our lifelong purchase instead of the final price tag. It is hard to find a trusted jeweler and Mitchell's is the only place I will take my rings to be cleaned. I even took a family heirloom necklace there to be fixed up before our wedding. Please don't take your precious jewelry to Mitchell's. After bringing my engagement ring to repair a chipped stone, not only did Mitchells order a stone that didn't fit the setting, they changed the entire integrity of my ring and several diamonds began falling out of my setting. I was heartbroken. To add insult to injury, the jeweler was always out of town or never around to work on my ring. It took him 3 months to "repair" my ring and only after having to call once a week to make sure it was even being done. After bringing the disrepair to his attention, his response was that he didn't really like working on the type of setting I had (something that should have been said prior to him conducting any work on my ring). Mitchell's Jewelers left me untrusting of any jeweler until I took my ring to Davalle Jewelers in Harwood Heights. What Mitchell's destroyed in 3 months, Davalle fixed in less than 10 days with the highest quality and integrity. It's taken me almost a year to write this review because I'm not one for writing negative comments. This is just to make sure I save someone else from future heartache. read more

WARNING: DO NOT TAKE JEWELRY TO MITCHELL'S FOR REPAIRS On July 3rd, 2015 I dropped 4 pieces of jewelry off for repair at Mitchell's - pearls to be restrung, repair cracked wedding ring band, repair clasp on second pearl necklace, repair earring post. I picked up the last piece of jewelry October 14th, 2015 STILL NOT FIXED. When I dropped the items off they failed to tell me the store would be closing for the next 2 weeks (summer vacation). After 3 weeks had gone by I called to check the status of my pieces and was then informed the store had been closed and they had not begun work on any of my pieces. Two weeks later I was told they had a lot of wedding rings to "get done" for upcoming weddings. I was told those rings took priority over my pieces; although they did say to give them two more weeks. Finally Mitchell's called me to say my pearls had been restrung, but that was the only piece that had been completed. Very frustrated I explained to the lady on the phone that more than a month had passed since I left my pieces and I felt it was time they prioritized the remainder of my repairs. My wedding ring was completed within a week, but it took them a few more days to fix the earring. Finally in September - over 2 months later - I was able to pick up 3 of my 4 pieces. At the time I dropped off my pieces they did say the necklace needing the clasp repaired would need to be out-sourced. In September when I went to pick up my 3 completed pieces they said Jim had been too busy to take my necklace for repair, but now he could get around to it. A few days went by and I received a call that the necklace would cost more than I was originally quoted. The call was during office hours and I said "fine". I was frustrated with the poor service from Mitchell's and had recently been to Razy Jewelers in Addison, IL. Delighted with Razy, I decided to get my necklace back from Mitchell and take it to Razy for repair. I called Mitchell the next day and asked them to get my necklace back. Not surprising, if you've read to this point, to learn Mitchell couldn't find my necklace. Jim had actually done what he said he would do and took the necklace for repair. I told them to get the necklace back. Guess what ... almost 2 more weeks go by before they have the necklace back. The explanation from the woman behind the counter was "Sorry, Jim's mom died. We know this is a business but we have to respect the family." My condolences to the Mitchell family. My recommendation is RAZY JEWELERS in Addison. If I had not kept following up on my pieces, I'm not sure when I might have ever gotten them back from Mitchell's. read more

Be very careful of repair services. I brought a ring in for sizing and was told it would be $65 because a stone had to be reset. It took 8 weeks for the work to be done and when I finally picked it up the bill was $100 ($35 for sizing and $65 for resetting the stone). The full charge should have been made clear up front. read more

My engagement ring from Mitchell's turned out absolutely perfect and beautiful (my fiance loved it)! We couldn't have asked for a better ring in the end. It was a rocky journey spending most of our Saturday mornings at the store for the past few months. The ring took longer than we expected but in the end we are really happy with how it turned out. If you decide to go with a custom ring from Mitchell's they will do whatever they can to make you happy. In retrospect however, we wish that we would have gone into way more detail with each visit so as to avoid miscommunication (and save some trips to the store). They told us they would wait to make the mold for the ring until I had picked out a diamond. We wish we would have had them start working on the mold immediately so that things would have gone faster. Additionally, if you have a "need by" date for the ring make sure that they write it down and circle it and maybe call back a few times and remind them. Jim lost the date I wanted to propose, thus, I had to postpone my engagement, which was frustrating. Overall, I recommend the store, but with our few suggestions. read more
