The bad: parking - but that's true everywhere downtown. I have one major suggestion: either charge half price for kids, or have some things available à la carte. To pay the same for a 5-year-old as for an adult, especially at their prices, seems a bit outrageous. We could have bought her a pot of hot chocolate and shared all the other food (they do give a lot!). As it was, we brought home easily 1/3 of the sandwiches and petits fours. Came here back in July on a Sunday afternoon. We were seated next to the entrance and noticed it was really hot, there was a tiny fan blowing in that entire room we were in. It was so hot that our cakes and sandwiches partially melted within 10 minutes. The staff was nice but didn't do much checkups at our table, we had to flag them down and ask for more hot water for the teas. They give you a tea pot for every tea you sample. I tried the lychee black tea, raspberry rose black tea, and sakura cherry rose. You are asked to select a hat to wear during your tea time and pick out the cup/saucer and be taken to your table. The table setting is very pretty and fun! There is a long list of tea's but I chose the typical English breakfast. First, they bring out the Spinach strawberry salad. Next is the tea of your choice. Then the yummy part! A three tier stand is filled with assorted sandwiches, scones with sweet cream and various desserts. The reason why I can't give them 5 stars is because of their dessert. All of us weren't too fond of the dessert and pretty much took a bite before putting our forks down. It was a disappointment considering how great the scones and sandwiches tasted. Super fun little place. I brought my son here for a children's tea time as he is learning all about England. They saved us the "premium seating" which was the super cute little alcove with the fancy chairs. We loved everything about learning to make our tea and all the foods. Michele had great costumer service and communication skills, and very kind while helping me. After coming here numerous times for a couple of years now and raving to my boyfriend about how good the sandwiches are (I even made a bet with him that these sandwiches alone can actually make him full), I finally take him here to only find out that they have changed the menu. It would seem the sandwiches has turned into h'orderves. Unfortunately, they have gone away with the cheese and tomato combo completely. However, they do have some kind of kalua pork bite - it's not as crazy delicious as the cheese and tomato sandwich but I accept it as a new replacement. I love a good afternoon tea and have been to many services in Honolulu, but Tea at 1024 has got to be one of my favorite places to spend cherished time with family and friends. Having tea here has become our annual Mother's Day tradition, which we all look forward to with great anticipation and glee! It's hard to believe this little treasure of a tea room has been a part of the downtown Honolulu vibe for nearly 20 years and has never lost its charm or unpretentiousness. Some of the highly regarded tea services in town can't really hold a candle to the delicious bites that Tea at 1024 serves and believe me when I say I've been to practically all of them. And now that they have a gluten-free option, I am all over every little sandwich and scone! On the day of our tea service we were presented with a lively assortment of delectable finger sandwiches, one even tastier than the other! Of course, the bread is substituted for gluten-free connoisseurs like myself but the descriptions ahead are from the regular menu. The Smoked Salmon atop pumpernickel with crème fraiche and dill was light, fresh, and reminiscent of a ladylike lox and bagel. The Kalua Pork with Guava Glaze on guava bread was just the right amount of savory and satisfying. Tiffany's Deviled Eggs might be a new addition to the menu and I was stoked to see them because I just love deviled eggs, oh yes, I do. These were bite-sized, creamy and mild in flavor, a nice break for the palate between sandwiches. One of my absolute favorite sandwiches here is the cheddar cheese & tomato, I'm so glad this has been a menu mainstay and hope it never goes away. The Crab & Cream Cheese in a Cucumber Bowl was also a welcome departure from the usual cucumber sandwich. The Chicken Curry with Apples on taro bread is perfectly spiced and my favorite. PB&J and vegetarian sandwiches are available upon request. Oh yes, don't let me forget about the tea! The selection here is pleasingly extensive and includes the customary English favorites (Baroness Grey, Earl Grey, English Breakfast); teas from India (Borengajuli Estate - Assam, Masala Chai, and of course, Darjeeling); blended teas - oh the flavors (Blueberry, Licorice, Mango, Lychee, Peach, Lemon Ginger, Guava, Cookies & Cream, Cinnamon & Spice, and Lilikoi); green teas (Goddess Oolong, Oolong Orange Blossom, and new to the menu, Sweet Watermelon); white teas (Cherry Rose and newly added Champagne); new wellness teas; tisanes (a blend of fruits, herbs, and spices); and occasional tea travel blends brought back from owner Michele's world travels. On this day, I decided to try the new tea from Africa. Ethiopian Mocha Pu-Erh (poo-air), and no it didn't taste like poo lol. It's described as having coffee and butterscotch flavors and "amazing with milk" so I decided to be a bit adventurous, as I am a purist and always drink my tea straight. Once I had a cup of it, I wasn't completely sold and our kind server agreed to switch it out for the Ginger Green tea, which I thoroughly enjoyed. A little bit of tea history comes along with the menu, and I love that the process of pouring boiling water over tea leaves is described as the "agonizing of the leaves" to release their full flavor. Moving on to the sweet treats. While I don't have a sweet tooth, I do enjoy tiny tastes of sweetness after the wave of savory. Petite sweets are the way to go and Tea at 1024 never disappoints when it comes to dessert. Those who know me are aware that my pastry and baked goods repertoire is very limited and I don't care much for dry, dough-y foods, but I have to say that I cannot seem to resist the scones here. They're baked exclusively for Tea at 1024 by Stage Restaurant's pastry chef and are the tiniest things; much easier for me to wrap my head around (or mouth as the case may be), and not dry in the slightest. The featured gluten-free scone was lavender flavored and such a delight to eat with clotted cream and strawberry preserves. Desserts may vary day to day and on Mother's Day we were treated to Flourless Chocolate Decadent Cake (gluten-free, yay!), Elderberry Tea infused cupcakes with a Champagne Rose Frosting. On other days you may find yourself enjoying Strawberry Shortcake, Lilikoi Lemon Bars made with Lilikoi from the Big Island, Tulip Shaped Chocolate Cups filled with Chocolate Haupia Pudding, Chocolate & Cinnamon Cupcakes with Esther's Peanut Butter Frosting, Mini Lava Cakes or Fruit Pies, Parfaits, and other wonderful seasonal desserts. My daughter and I loved it. Its a charming little tea house that will bring a smile to your face (and i'm a man saying this). Me and my daughter got to dress up with hats and boas and also got to pick out our tea cups...which was one of the reasons it made this experience fun. You can't put a price on your 4 year old daughter's face when she says "Daddy, wear this one!" As far as the tea goes...it was delicious and very educational. I had the best 'tea" birthday ever. It was a last minute idea that my family enjoyed local style! We converted my tiny living room into a tea room with flowers and some pink decor. Michelle at Tea at 1024, made everything so simple, takeout Tea, curbside pick up, reasonable costs, and all the fixings! The finger sandwiches, scones, desserts and tea were PERFECT! All we had to do was make some hot water and lay everything out. Surprisingly, even the men folk loved it! You can either go to their cute tea shop in Nuuanu or create that special moment at home or your backyard. This is hands down the best afternoon tea place on the island. The food is just as good, if not better than ritzier places like the Kahala or Halekulani, and it's less than half the price! Food: I've come many times and have only ever had the afternoon tea set here because at $22.95 it's just such a great deal and has everything you could want. They're always running promos and sales so it's definitely worth it to join their email list. You get a free birthday tea if you do too! The afternoon tea comes with a small salad, a tier of savory food and a tier of sweet. They used to serve a selection of classic finger sandwiches as the savory tier, but the they recently switched to a more upscale selection of locally sourced goodies including a taro bread finger sandwich and a guava bread and kalua pork sandwich. They also make accommodations for vegetarians/vegans, just make sure to tell them beforehand! The food is all bite sized and deceivingly small, but believe me it is very filling and more than enough. Their clotted cream is the best I've ever had. Tea: Each afternoon tea set comes with a pot of tea that you choose. There are so many different kinds for every different taste preference. Fans of coffee might like their Pu-er tea or the english breakfast tea which comes with cream. I prefer the fruitier white or green teas myself. The peach tea is fantastic! It's great to come with a group and get to try different types. One of my favorite parts is getting to pick your own tea cup to use from the two racks of different styles that they have. They come by to refill your tea pot with more hot water too. Just don't forget to use the tea strainer each time you pour because it's brewed loose leaf! Location/Service/Attire: The location is the one thing I dislike. They're located downtown in Chinatown which can get busy at times and street parking is always rare. They do partially validate (it comes out to $.50 i think) parking at the Chinese Municipal lot which is right across the street from the entrance to the Walmart parking garage. The service is great here, the staff is all very kind but they do get overwhelmed if it's an especially busy time like weekend afternoons or a special holiday, so be patient or come on a weekday instead. Reservations are recommended and very easily made online via their website. You can wear whatever you want, it seems pretty casual, but also many people do enjoy dressing fancy. I've been here three times in the past three years and they were all amazing experiences. Great for little girls and little girls at heart. Unlike other tea places, you can pick your own tea cup to match your outfit. Then if you want to further your attire, you can pick a boa and/or hat. (If you're feeling bold, choose the chinaman straw hat.) Food: there's more than a dozen different teas (black/green/white) from cookies and cream to pomegranate guava. Everyone gets to have their own pot :) In terms of sandwiches, there's curry chicken, smoked salmon, crab olive, egg and pb&j. They're all pretty good, so are the scones! Finally, the desserts are so cute and petite but they can be a little sweet. The girls that work there are very friendly and always welcoming. For a refreshing activity, our family had an Afternoon Tea Party! Parking was street parking, just like any other place in Chinatown. We ordered egg salad with sweet dressing, PB&J (for Landon), Smoked Salmon layered over Pesto (My husband's favorite), and Chicken Curry with Apples. First tea party celebrating a birthday with friends. Great food and a server that explained the different teas/foods and overall great experience with the EXCEPTION of the manager. We arrived 30 minutes earlier than our reservation and the server seated us and advised she would return after she tends to another table. They allow you to choose whichever teacup you fancy, and have an array of hats and scarves to dress up your bumpkin appearance. I chose the holiday gingerbread tea, while my girlfriend chose the cookies and cream black tea. As you can already tell by our choice of tea, we are very sophisticated people. This was followed up by strawberry and spinach salad, and an arrangement of cute finger foods and desserts. Since the girlfriend does not enjoy seafood or taro, I found myself eating the majority of the food. It was delicious. Came here today for a tea party baby shower. Being that it was my first time here I was taking everything in as I sat and glanced around the room admiring the decor from the tea sets to the dolls and the adornments you can be creative with(boa's, hats, etc). We sat in the far backside of the place. We fit about 16 of us there. It was a little tight poor staff had to wiggle themselves through our tables to serve other patrons. Service was great! Prompt, friendly and attentive. Food was delicious, beautiful and abundant. I thought it was a great venue to hold an intimate get together. I would love to have a reason to come back, I'd make the hour plus drive from my house lol perfect girls day out! read more

I loved this place! As a tea lover I am always looking for new tea spots, and I definitely found it in Tea 1024. Located in downtown Chinatown, this place isn't hard to find if you just punch it in your gps. There's a cute little sign hanging above the door. Parking is street or a nearby lot. I was lucky enough to score the meter right in front, when does that ever happen?!? I had made a reservation a few weeks ago for a little fun girls get together for 10 with a $100 deposit. I'm not sure if this was just because our party was so big or if its that way with everyone. As I walked in I was seated right away. Unfortunately some of the party didn't make it so we were a party of 7. We picked out our little tea cups and saucers and got started into the real business....of tea, food, and chit chatting. We started off with a yummy little salad with strawberries and blueberries, then the little tiers of tea sandwiches, scones, and little desserts came out. We all must have said "aaaww this is so cute" like a million times in here. The sandwiches were delicious, I think there was 4 different types to choose from. I liked the cucumber and the salmon/pesto sandwiches. Everything was delicious! I loved the scones ant the little chocolate brownies were my favorites. The entire shop itself is adorable, it's not real big though so I'd call first to see if there's anything available. There's the coveted window table for two! One day, I will be there! Around the shop are all types of tea paraphernalia you can imagine. Some of it is actually for sale too! The only part of the party that was not so cool was the bill. Since 3 of our people hadn't made it, they still had to charge us for their meals. I mean, I understand they had 3 empty seats at our table, but I don't think there would have been extra food or tea they had prepared for us. I didn't wanna make a fuss though so we all split the bill evenly to help cover that extra cost to us. All in all I had a blast! I had contact Michelle, the owner of Tea at 1024, via Twitter a few days before and had requested "The Window Most Requested" for lunch. She responded quickly and I was excited to sit in the window for the very first time. Went to Tea at 1024 with my friend Tiffany for some midday lolly gagging and I was ecstatic to see that there had been some upgrades made since my last visit. Its been a good 3 years since I've dined at Tea at 1024 (for my sister's bridal shower) and I was happy that I had returned. The owner Michelle was celebrating her 10th anniversary in the space and had decided to knock out an odd wall in the back near the kitchen and put in some hardwood flooring. Tiffany and I put on hats and fairy wings from the dress-up station and I stated that I was Mrs. Sassafrass Jenkins and Tiffany was now Ms. Marmalade Crumpalumps. We picked out our tea cups from the assortment of cups on the wall and took our time as our choice would surely impact the taste of our tea. I'm joking but your tea cup really does say a lot about who you are and the mood you're in that day. This could make or break our tea experience! After choosing our beautiful tea cups we sat in our giant rattan chairs in the window and enjoyed a pot of delicious tea from Denmark. I'm not sure what it was called but it tasted like running through a field of strawberries. You get my drift. We ordered the full tea service for $17.95 each and got a yummy starter salad which had field greens, blueberries and a tangy vinaigrette. Our two tiered tray of sandwiches, scones and desserts came quickly and I was very happy with the quality and quantity of treats. Mrs. Sassafrass Jenkins and Ms. Marmalade Crumpalumps nodded in approval and enjoyed a delightful afternoon tea service. Tea at 1024 is one of those wonderful little places that you can enjoy with your Mom, Grandmother or girlfriends. Such a sweet place! As soon as you walk in, you get to select your cup of tea from a diverse selection of quaint tea cups. Then you pick your tea time hat which comes in a variety of sizes and colors. The afternoon tea menu was delicious and (having experienced many afternoon teas every time I vacation), I appreciate that they have a smaller selection of teas. I tried the Strawberry Oolong and my husband tried the Pitta which paired nicely with the sweeter cakes and desserts. The scones and their homemade cream and jam were delectable; the sandwiches were nice and refreshing (especially the cucumber avocado one!) The service was amazing and our waitress was very attentive. Highly recommend this lovely gem for anyone looking for a fun experience with great food and service - all at reasonable prices! read more
