I find the food to be good. That being said, for me, it has been a bit on the bland side which is unfortunate. I do feel like everything is fresh. I appreciate that. For the price I find that the servings are small. Recently I got hot and sour soup and I have never had hot and sour soup like that. Not a good thing. We go to Tea Leaf 2 about once a month. The food is always fresh and fast, and the waiter is very welcoming and attentive! They have more traditional Chinese dishes, so if you're expecting fried doughy chicken with your fake red sweet and sour sauce, this isn't the place for you. Hot tea is also included with your meal. It's clean and cozy, usually not too busy for sit down, and they offer take out, which seems busier. I had such high, high hopes for this place. Look at all those stars! It must be amazing! You know that scene in "Ratatouille" when the critic takes a bite of the titular dish and has a flashback to the warmth and joy he experienced when he was a child eating his mother's version of the dish? Tea Leaf II gave me that experience, but like the opposite. See, I grew up A) poor and B) in the Midwest (no offense to either demographic), and to my mother, La Choy frozen and canned "Chinese" food was just dandy. This restaurant took me back to those simpler, more naive days. That's...not a compliment. I got the pork lo mein and fried wontons. These are typically very different dishes, but they were united by the common thread of tasting overwhelmingly of cabbage and celery. The lo mein, as pictured, was so heavy on vegetables, if you told me I got a veggie lo mein and they accidentally dropped in some pork, it believe it. The pork, which was scant for the price (any price, really), was in tiny bits, sliced about as thin as the standard slice of ham from a deli counter. To add insult to injury, there was no flavor to the pork. Maybe that's because there wasn't enough or big enough pieces to contribute any flavor, or maybe they used lower-than-normal-for-takeout-Chinese pork. I suspect all three. The sauce on the lo mein had a sweetness to it that I, for one, did not find remotely pleasant. But again, to be clear, the main flavor was cabbage. The wontons were cooked perfectly, and in defense of Tea Leaf II, they didn't list a flavor on the menu, so unlike the noodles I guess I can't complain that they were just cabbage flavored. I walked in and ordered at the counter. The woman who took my order was very polite and prompt. The food was out in less than five minutes, which might have been a bad sign, but honestly, I've had mall and buffet Chinese that were hot-held and better than this. The restaurant, from what I could tell, was clean and had plenty of seating. It was not the easiest to get to due to one-way streets, but not out of the way either. All in all, I'd love to give this place at least two stars because I hate doing one for anywhere, but since all I have to really go on is the food, which I did not enjoy in even the slightest bit, and the price, which I find exorbitant for the quality even in post-Covid, post inflation Washington. Edited to add: They also gave me a side of white rice. I was confused, since noodle dishes and fried appetizers don't often come with rice in my experience, but in hindsight maybe it was because they knew I'd have a pound of leftover cabbage and celery without a noodle to go with them and this was to balance it out. read more

I used to stop in for the Mongolian Beef on way home from Portland. I don't travel anymore but played golf near there recently. I ordered the Mongolian again and it is still one of the best I've had. Chris is amazing and remembers me every time! Don't go for the decor, go for the food. read more

We used to live in the area but moved away several years ago. My wife and son would dine here almost weekly. This remains one of my wife's favorite dining spots in Lacey. Although we've moved to Oregon, nearly every time we are in Lacey, Tea Leaf 2 is a required stop. In fact, we were traveling through to Tacoma two weeks ago, and guess what, an early lunch at Tea Leaf 2 occurred. We are traveling back to Tacoma this weekend and I am convinced another stop will be in order. Their food is very good. I am particularly fond of the crab wontons and beef lo mein. My wife's favorite is the Mongolian Chicken. We are pleased to still be in driving distance although we don't get to enjoy the place near as often as we'd like. I have to agree with the comments about Chris. I don't know how he does it, but he impresses with his memory. I swear the dude remembers everything. First stopped here picking up for Door Dash one night and they smelled amazing, and finally got to try them. They smell amazing, and they taste amazing. You get tea to start, and I thought it tasted good. My wife got the sweet & sour chicken and Mongolian beef combo, and I got the Mongolian beef and General Tso's chicken combo. Both tasted amazing, and came with egg flower soup. The portions were generous and I left sated. I did also get an order of kimchi. This was amazing as well. After reading the reviews on the Tea Leaf and wanting good Chinese food, we stopped in for lunch. The soup was good and our entrees were great. A word of caution, I ordered the Tea Leaf Special Pea Pods and Beef and on a scale from one to five, I chose four. The heat level was similar to many Thai and Indian dishes and it's good if you like spicy! Hubs ordered the Curry chicken at a level three and he said it was plenty spicy. The dishes were prepared without a lot of goopy sauces that Chinese foods seem to come with. It's nice they offer steamed rice if you don't like fried. The menu was varied and the service was quick and friendly. This restaurant is definitely worth stopping by, I'm very happy we paid them a visit! read more

No absolutely not. I ordered here twice. The first time I gave them a pass. I ordered the chicken fried rice, and chicken chow Mein. It was nice to know that they know how to open a bag of frozen vegetables and old white rice and throw it in a box. Congrats. The second time I had a friend order and she shared with it. The quality had not changed (which is level 100 on the this place sucks meter) but the amount of food per box had. It was literally have a portion for 4 people we order two dishes and they came slapped in a box like the cook had just tripped and scrapped what was left off the floor and put it back in the box. Deplorable. You should close down. You do not know what you are doing. Start over. Sell the whole place. Move. Start a new business. The last time I went to Tea Leaf 2 will be the last time I go there. I ordered my dish from the menu and when it finally arrived on the table I immediately knew something was wrong. It was supposed to feature eggplant and there was no eggplant in it. I called the waiter over and asked if he got me the right dish. He went back and asked the chief and came back and he told me the chief said I got what I ordered. I asked to see the menu and the dish he brought had none of the ingredients on the menu. This is just wrong. If they can't make a dish they should just say so and not put something you did not order on your table. This place really was great back in the mid 1980's, but now instead of a dark atmosphere with a small fountain at the entry, there are bright vinyl booths and absolutely zero character to the atmosphere. Food was equally mediocre. Ordered the lunch special with Mongolian Beef, General Tsao's chicken and fried veggie spring rolls which were flavorless and gummy. Probably processed frozen garbage. Nothing was good. Just filling. The service was fine. The food was a decent temperature, but I am not returning. Not worth $17.00 They can do better. This is generic. I asked that the Mongolian Beef be extra spicy and the lo mein have limited veggies. I don't know if anyone can relate, but I've noticed especially with Chinese restaurants that they tend to go heavy on the veggies to compensate meat costs and EXTRA spicy means literally NOTHING. First time at this restaurant and I can't believe they have great reviews. The wonton soup is really bad. No flavor whatsoever! It's made with chicken broth and vegetables? No veggies except onions, and cabbage. What NOT to order is the egg rolls! Tastes like a frozen one that you can get at your local grocery store. Plus it was Sliced open like a loaf of bread! Why would anyone do that and let the heat out!? It was barely warm. But I did have great service and the waiter was really nice and said I didn't have to pay for anything. UPDATE: I wrote a '5 Star' Review on the Tea Leaf 2 in 2021...Since then, [now 2023] in ordering take out of the same Mui Shu Pork [which i had raved about in my 2021 review], they have gone downhill.-big time !!.. As I said in my initial review, I am originally from San Francisco, love Northern Chinese food and there are few places up here that make Mui Shu Pork up here.. Soe theLast time we ordered Mui Shu Pork @ Tea Leaf 2 take out-[as we had done before], what we received in this was a large amount rice and a ridiculously small amount of Mui shu pork !!....and we paid $21.50 for this ?- are you kidding me ??! It's way overpriced [as is everything on their menu now for what you receive].... we are never going back ! As a note : If you want Mui Shu Pork -" You can get excellent Mui Shu Pork, at the The Hunan Garden in Tacoma has it for $16.00 on their dinner menu.. and it is a generous full portion !! read more
