Much improved! I've been here three times since they opened and didn't feel that the food was on par with its locations in Seattle and Bellevue at first. But decided to give them another chance this week and it was so much better! The first two times, the XLB was completely dry with no soup inside and the dan dan noodles were super salty. This wasn't the case this time. XLB (pork) was juicy, though the skin was still not an ideal texture. The noodles, the main reason we come here, were perfectly garlicky and chewy. So happy we have easy access to them now at this location. Hope this is the way they're trending since they fill a desperate need for Chinese food in the area. We also get various soups, veg, dumplings, and everything else on the menu to try when we come and those have been good too. Service here has always been good and the prices are very reasonable. For this particular location, the sound is very echo-ey and loud so we only come if it's not busy. Excited about coming back now! read more

I've tried the original Dough Zone in Seattle a couple years ago and really enjoyed it, so I was excited to check out the new location here in Lacey! It's in a great, convenient spot and overall was a solid experience. I ordered takeout and the online ordering process was super easy to navigate. My only issue was that the order status page was not updated. The screen stayed on "preparing order" even after I had already picked up my food. It would be really helpful if the system was more accurate and notified customers when the order is ready. But otherwise no problems picking up my order and the worker was nice. As for the food, it was delicious! The xiao long bao soup dumplings are always a hit. They were flavorful and comforting, the perfect dish. The cucumber side was also great (I'm a big cucumber fan, so I loved it!). The dan dan noodles weren't my personal favorite, but I'm still glad I gave them a try. Overall, I'd definitely recommend this spot. I'm looking forward to dining in next time and trying other items on the menu. read more

I went to the Dough Zone for the first the first time. We ordered a variety of food. It wasn't bad, meaning there wasn't anything wrong with the food except it was very bland. It seemed like a frozen and bland version of Din Tai Fung. The green onion pancakes were greasy. The egg fried rice (current house special) was bland but okay. The beef sandwich on bao was very dry and the beef was full of gristle but the bao was soft and pillowy. The soup dumplings were okay. The soup in them was hot but the meat wasn't. It was as though it had been frozen and microwaved. The pan fried wontons tasted like the pot stickers. They came with a sweet and sour sauce that was very pillows. Stopped in on a Monday night for an impromptu dinner date and was pleasantly surprised. It wasn't crowded like I expected, and we were seated right away. Our hostess walked us through the ordering process, which was super simple. Our server, Oz, was great--really attentive--and the rest of the staff was just as friendly and attentive. The inside was clean and had a nice atmosphere. Prices were decent, especially considering we ordered more than we planned. I'm giving 4 stars because a couple of dishes lacked flavor compared to the others, and I wish the fried rice (not pictured) and the Dan Dan noodles came in larger portions. My husband and I really wanted to like this place, but the experience fell short in several areas. Service: The biggest issue was the lack of actual service. You check in through an app and barely see your server after the initial greeting. Our server never returned to check on us, and different staff members brought out our dishes at completely separate times. We finished one dish before the next even arrived, which made it impossible to enjoy the meal as it was intended. At one point, someone came by to ask if we were ready to check out before we even received the rest of our food. Dirty dishes weren't cleared promptly either. We noticed other tables getting new dishes served next to old ones, and the same happened to us. For a restaurant serving food in stages, it would make sense to clear plates as new dishes come out. Also, there was also no clarity on how to actually pay. After we finished eating, we sat for about 10 minutes waiting for a check that never came. We eventually got up and walked to the front, only to find no one there. It felt like a perfect setup for someone to dine and dash--not our style, but the lack of structure certainly made it easy. Food: The food was inconsistent. - The steamed dumplings were fine. - The soup came out lukewarm, and the broth tasted overwhelmingly like the lettuce in it--bok choy would've been a better choice. - The beef pancake roll had meat that was hard and cold, which didn't seem intentional. - The banana crepe had charred bits stuck on it from the grill. - Even simple things like chili oil had hardened chili stuck at the bottom. Atmosphere: The décor was nice, but the restaurant was very loud. Also, the sign outside wasn't lit, so it's hard to find after dark. Magic. Dipped in the ginger vinegar with spice? Come on. The banana dessert is the perfect ending to a perfect meal. Perfect chew. Not overly sweet. Better than any banana lumpia I've had. We've had our eye on this place for a while. They always seem to have a decent amount of customers around at different times of the day. We went for an early lunch. The menu is fool proof and basically à la cart. You check off what you want and how many. Sometimes they come Out with gold spacing out table got loaded but that not necessarily Bad. A little hard to gauge whether you'd be served fast or not. This is a restaurant that I would call Covid proof. They are a contemporary set up, with minimal interior, digital menu options, take out options. Clean vibes in the decor. Staff is friendly, prompt and efficient. The oil that was used to fry the onion pancake might have been too hot as it made the pancake Tasted a little burnt. This is the only Reason for the one star drop. I look forward to coming back again and I was glad to finally get to eat here. read more

My rating is more for the front end customer service portion. It is incredibly non personable. The workers up front ignore you basically and have you scan to do a waitlist seating when there are not even people in the restaurant to begin with. Very odd. The restaurant itself is decently sized and it's an open kitchen. You can see everything being cooked in the back. Grant it, it's not Din Thai Fung, but the food didn't have that much flavor. We got a couple different dishes and it was all bland or way too fishy of a taste and smell. I will say Cassandra is AMAZING! She was the best part about this place. And all three times Ive been seated at the same exact table! It's as if I'm special!! I ordered some repeat items I knew would not disappoint (Pork Bai, Pork Potstickers), but I tried some new things as well. The spicy beef sandwich was very good, though a little more dough in the bun than I care for. Not their faught, just a personal preference thing. The winna winna chicken dinna came in the form of the 'Sweet and Sour Cucumbers'! This was so worth my visit. Yumm!! After two visits, we like a few things on the menu, but there is nothing we LOVE. Service - they are kind but the wait time was awkwardly long for food, even when half the restaurant was empty. We did enjoy the patio space. If you like 5 spice seasoning, order something beef. (Beef potsticker/dumpling and beef hand pies are the exception) We liked the pan friend chicken dumplings both trips. Top recommendation from the 3 in our family and friends as well. Everything else is either has mild flavor, or has 5 spice. The food: Dan Dan Noodles - standard no-frills ramen noodles with average and stereotypical Dan Dan flavor - and only mild spice and very mild Szechwan peppercorn use. No protein source available - so pure carb dish. Modest sized bowl of noodles - think tapas sized. Meh... Pork Wontons in Chili Sauce - petite wontons with nice flavor and again quite mild spice. Steamed then lightly fried on the bottom - well prepared! Pork Bao - excellent flavor and again well prepared - steamed with a quick fry on the bottom! Pork and Crab Soup Dumplings - excellent flavor! Crab flavor does overwhelm the pork flavor tho... but still good! Shrimp and Zucchini Dumplings - such a nice pairing of flavors... the zucchini really shines in tandem with the shrimp! Spicy Ma La Noodles - never had before so no reference to compare to. Tasty... mild spice flavor...but again, nothing to write home about. Food cost us $56.00 Used a gift card purchased at Costco to save a few bucks. Our host explained the ordering process to us, as well as offered explanations as to the menu and even pointed out dishes that had peanuts. We tried several offerings and most were really good. The sweet and sour cucumber is a must. I would recommend using it with the ginger as a palet cleanser in between other items. The pork soup dumplings and chicken and vegetable fried wontons were very good. We also tried steamed chicken dumplings which were good. The Dan Dan noodles were a bit fragrant and at the same time had no depth of flavor. The beef sandwich was something we would absolutely not recommend. We enjoyed the vinegar, soy sauce and chili oil at the table. I do wish they had a spicier oil available. Overall, I'm excited to visit again and try some different menu items. So we took our out-of-town friends to Dough Zone in Lacey. At checkout, I paid with a $50 Dough Zone gift card that had never been used or even opened before. After the card was swiped, only $40.93 was applied to the bill. When I checked the balance online later, I found out there was a "retail application fee" of $9.07 already deducted from the card before I even used it. That means the full $50 value was never actually available from the start, even though the card was purchased as a $50 gift card. Very disappointing and misleading. This is also not the first time this has happened. I always wondered why the cashier would say they couldn't apply the full amount on the gift card. Now I understand why. Was happy to get a Dough Zone in Olympia and brought a couple of friends out to try. It's the same fun, but okay food as the other locations, but they gotta work on their service. It was super slow. We were there over two hours because it took awhile to fire out food and we had to wait 15 minutes between different dishes coming out. Our server checked on us for water often but then would run off so we couldn't tell her we wanted to order more food. They have a QR code for the menu but you can't order food that way, so you'll wait for awhile if you want more items. Save yourself the trouble and order all the food you think you might want as soon as you get to order. The cucumber appetizer is the best thing on the menu. We are here at the soft opening and the service is great. Attentive and kind servers. The food is really nice quality, I've been to a Dough Zone before many moons ago and the quality has not changed. The sad thing (and only reason I knocked a star off) is they ran out of most of the XLB by 6pm. Zero flavor, dough was gummy inside, you can literally buy far superior soup dumplings, frozen at Costco for 14 bucks a bag. However, I did like the pan fried pork dumplings and thought they were my favorite from both visits. All the food was fine but didn't quite have the wow factor. Service was lackluster, might be because they're new and still working out the kinks. The waiter delivering food to our table was not well-trained and could not find a way to put plates on a fairly open table, and then decided to just plop it down on my side and said I'll just leave it here you can move it wherever you want..... ambiance was meh, it's a loud place. Had to wait 30 minutes for our table (quoted 9-19) but it was busy so we were fine with it. We put in our order at 7:01. They put resubmitted our order at 7:38. We didn't start getting food until 7:50ish. Our waitress was Vanessa. She did not come to check on us at all within the 37 minute period. I had to flag her down and tell her that other tables that have been sat 20-30 minutes after us have already received all of their food. The manager gave us "an employee discount" $8 off and barely apologized. Just kept smiling and sending the incompetent waitress to talk to us instead. We were going to go somewhere else but we had waited there so long that everything else was closing. And we realized we never got one of the dishes we ordered. Food was good. The spicy beef shank was nothing like wat i expected and was not well liked. It is a dish served cold. Thin shavings of meat and some cut pieces with a light barely detectable flavor that was not spicy. The sweet and sour cucumber i added a little soy sauce and man that was good. Cud have used sesame seeds. The pork wontons in chili sauce were yummm but for the price you didn't get many. Pork and shrimp pan fried potstickers came grilled stuck together but nothing super special. Pan fried pork buns had inside a ball of cooked pork and some delicious juice. Because zero isn't an option.... The level of service we received was beyond disappointing and genuinely disheartening, especially considering Dough Zone has been one of our favorite stops all up the I-5 and 405 corridor. We walked in, checked in, and despite many available tables, we were told it would be a 10+ minute wait. No problem, we waited patiently. Once seated, we then sat over 20 minutes without a single greeting, water, plate, or acknowledgment. Meanwhile, three parties of similar size who arrived after us were seated in the same section with the same servers responsible for our table... and every single one of them had water, drinks ordered, and drinks delivered before anyone even glanced in our direction. It wasn't just neglect, it was awkward!!!! Multiple servers walked past our table, made eye contact with the slip sitting there untouched, saw no water, nothing... and still didn't sat anything. Not even a simple "I'll be right with you." We were literally invisible. We eventually stopped someone and politely asked for water. She grabbed the ticket with a look of annoyance, huffed, and said she'd give it to the server. As a different server brought food to a table seated after us, the two exchanged irritated glances and upset murmurs while looking at our table. It was clear we were seen and we were just ignored. At that point, we assumed at least water would be on its way. Nope. Nothing. We walked out frustrated, disappointed, and shocked that this was Dough Zone. Every other location we've been to has been excellent, friendly service, great hospitality, and an overall enjoyable experience. This Lacey visit was the complete opposite and left an incredibly sour taste. A favorite restaurant of ours, now one we'll be cautious to ever return to at this location! read more

Really enjoyed my visit here! We stopped in with family, so a group of 6 of us. We were kind of prepared for a bit of a wait, but really it wasn't too bad. We were quoted "about 45 minutes" so we went next door to the ice cream shop and grabbed a few cones to kill some time. Since all of the wait times and check-in is done online, I was able to watch the "virtual line" move and it really felt like a lot shorter than 45 minutes when the website notified me "you're next!", so we finished up our cones and went back next door. Our table was ready and waiting on us and we got seated. Ordering is a bit different, but not terribly difficult. We ended up ordering quite a lot of different items, in an effort to kind of sample a lot of stuff. Dishes started arriving in a decent amount of time, the place was pretty packed and it seemed like they were a bit understaffed, so I kind of expected some time before we got our food. The interesting part was that dishes arrived in a "one at a time" manner, which isn't something I was overly concerned about, but it was a bit of a struggle with the kids. If you order a plate of potstickers, which have 6 on an order, our party of 6 got 1 potsticker each. Then we waited another 5 to 8 minutes before the next dish arrived, where each party member got 1 of that item, then wait another 5 to 8 minutes and repeat this process again and again. For the younger kids it was a small struggle, so if you're bringing younger diners, keep that in mind. Our wait staff was very friendly and helpful, which was great since we were visiting for the first time and needed a little help with the ordering process. Overall it was a very enjoyable experience, and I will certainly visit again. But I'm holding that last star just based on how things come out very staggered. It would be nice to get the food all at once, or at least in larger groupings, especially if my grandkids are dining with us. read more
