I've started hunting for solid Chinese takeout in the Olympia/Lacey area. Not elevated but not rubbish either. It only took two tries, because I think this is my place. I ordered on their website, which was easy to use, although I wish there were more pictures. It said my order would be ready in 10-25 minutes, and it was ready when I got there after an 11 minute drive. I got two lunch specials to try a few things. I got chicken lo mein sub pork fried rice for steamed rice (no charge!) and general tso's chicken sub vegetable lo mein for steamed rice ($1.50 extra). The food was hot, and even after another 11 minute drive home, was so hot it steamed up my camera lens. After another ten minutes it was cool enough to eat (I did burn my tongue on the first bite). The rice was perfectly cooked, and the pork in it was the pink Chinese bbq style, not the usual fried rice and noodle mystery meat pork. The lo mein dishes were both savory, and the dominant ingredient was noodles and chicken in the chicken lo mein, not veggies. And the veggies in both lo mein dishes were crisp and fresh. General Tso's chicken was not overly sweet, although I only selected +2 spicy, and wish I'd gone higher as +2 was a bit mild for me. A little sriracha punched it up. This is a classic tiny hole-in-the-wall strip mall Chinese joint, but was clean and homey. The gal at the counter was friendly and juggled a customer ordering in person, me picking up my order, and someone ordering by phone seamlessly. The last thing I'll say is that they have "helper chopsticks." These consist of a pair of chopsticks bound with rubber bands with a rolled chopstick wrapper between them to make noob and kid-friendly chopsticks. Not sure if this was an invention of China House, but I've never seen it and think it's brilliant. Edited to add: Two lunch specials was a TON of food for a bit over $11. I didn't plan on eating all of both, but I ate way less than half of what I got and needed a nap. read more

Food is good but restaurant does not like to fix their mistakes. My first experience with this is when I ordered a dish and requested no peanuts (even the receipt had no peanuts) but it was delivered with peanuts. I called store and they said to bring back dish and they would remove peanuts. So I asked if they would reimburse me for the delivery fee ($20) since I was essentially picking up my order myself; they said no. Second experience I had was an order with extra fee for a can soda with for delivery. Order came without soda. Restaurant stated I soda wasn't ordered and then I told them the item is on the receipt and I was charged. They then try to blame the delivery driver and stated I needed to contact Uber Eats for a refund. I asked did they tell the delivery driver that he needed to get the soda from the refrigerator because it was part of the order? She stated " I forgot to tell them". So I'm confused as to why I would contact Uber Eats for refund when it was clearly a mistake on the restaurant's end. Restaurant once again offered no resolution in form of restaurant credit or money back. Again, food is good but customer service is severely lacking. read more

Had 2 lunch plates and quite disappointed. The beef/onions/peppers must have been cooked and reheated since some of the meat pieces were cold. The onions and peppers were relatively raw. The Beef and broccoli were more evenly heated although the broccoli was just too raw for my friends taste. When I mentioned the cold meat to the woman, she smiled but said nothing, not even an apology. My friend was interested in the home delivery, but not after the meal. Was in a hurry to grab lunch in between shifts today- was craving fried rice. A couple of other people dining at 12:15. Clean exterior and interior! Staff were very friendly, unfortunately not very knowledgeable with the menu. I'm pretty picky with chicken dishes and only order white meat/chicken breast. I asked which lunch combos were made with chicken breast. The lady taking my order said that she is new and wasn't sure, she turned to the 2nd lady working at the counter. She kind of shrugged and said that they only use chicken breast. I was a little hesitant at first, but she assured me that the only time she sees dark meat is when the cooks are preparing food for themselves. I went ahead and ordered the sesame chicken lunch meal. Appearance was nice, a lot of chicken! A good serving of pork fried rice. I cut into my first piece of chicken--just as I was expecting, it was dark meat. :-( I was in a hurry so ate what I could (about 1/4 of the chicken and all of the rice) and boxed up the rest to take home to share with my not-so-picky daughter. The flavor was great! The rice was fantastic! Overall, I would return. I will just be sure to stick with shrimp dishes since the staff are not able to steer me in the right direction when it comes to chicken. read more

Went to pick up food at 4:30, but it was not ready yet. They were super busy for the holiday which is understanding given it's the only place open other than McDonald's. Ended up not getting my food until 5:30 which is why I can't give China House a 5 star review. We've gotten delivery from here several times over the past few years. Nearly every time we do an item is missing or the items are cold. This past time we ordered thru DoorDash rather then directly thru the restaurant thinking it would give us a better chance to get everything we ordered. Guess we were wrong. Restaurant called us after our order was picked up saying that we were missing an item from our order, asked us to have the "Dasher" to go back and pick up. Why the Dasher would do that is beyond me, they said they couldn't based on other orders they were needing to deliver. We called the restaurant back, and were told that their own driver couldn't bring it, because they were too busy. So basically....missing the items, with no form of refund or apology. Guess they were too busy. Needless to say, while we've enjoyed their food over the past 5 years in Lacey. We will be giving our business to a different restaurant in the area that will check that all orders placed are sent out with EVERYthing that was ordered..... Something tells me that China House needs to find someone to get their delivery house in order.... read more

Stopped in for lunch on a Saturday. It's a small restaurant with about 9 tables. Not much for decor, but it was very clean inside. They seemed to be doing a fair amount of takeout business.. Prices were very reasonable. I had broccoli with chicken and it looked and tasted amazing. It came with 2 generous portions of steamed rice. It was a very short wait to get my food and when I asked for hot sauce on the side, I was brought two different kinds and was not charged extra for it. I stopped at China House for lunch and ordered Moo Goo Gai Pan. It was served hot and quickly. The highlight was vegetables that were cooked slightly crunchy, but tasted very bland. My husband and I were both having a serious Almond Chicken craving. We were both very pleased with our order. We ordered the Almond Chicken, Pork Fried Rice, and Beef Chow Mein. The portion sizes were great and the food delicious! We had never seen Chow Mein served quite like this. It was in a very tasty broth of sorts - very different, but fantastic with the crunchy topping. The staff was super friendly and welcoming. Their lo mein was probably the worst lo mein i've ever had, which sucks cause I was totally looking forward to it. The meats were good. They gave us pork fried rice when we ordered chicken fried rice; it wasnt great. The crab rangoons were delicious but a little chewy. Ultimately I would definitely not spend $80 here again but I would get the rangoons again even if they were still chewy because the filling tastes so good and the serving size is really good.
