I needed a cool down on a very humid summer New York evening. This is my second Tea Magic visit but my first in this Upper West Side location. I briefly scanned the menu located hanging overhead but was not intrigue with the options. I specifically requested plain green tea without honey and Tea Magic staff complied and heeded my hope. My drink order was fulfilled to the tee with 30% sugar, regular ice and including my default topping grass jelly loeng4 fan2 涼粉. The grass jelly was a nice cool down, but it was insufficient paucity quantity ergo four stars. I highly despise extreme sweet drinks for the high sugar content volume and agree with former NYC Mayor Mike Bloomberg's limiting sugar level initiatives consumption of sugary drinks. Bloomberg would be proud of my sugar intake level. The ice was average. No comment for the food as I did not purchase any. My raison d'etre for this visit was specifically for one cold drink with grass jelly topping. The decor is cute with a stuff bunny. Nota Bene: Cash payment enables a small discount. read more

Visited again and the cafe is still very cute but the quality has changed and service is slower. I ordered a Passion Fruit Sparkling tea and the flavor was good, but I think the tapioca boba is different now. I wish it was just a tad sweeter. Prices have increased too and I'm not sure that the value vs portion is worth it. read more

As some other reviews mention, the boba is super sweet. The drinks are decent but pricy for portion and quality. Service is prompt and there are some seats so perhaps worth it if you're looking for a place to sit. read more

This spot is really convenient just 3 blocks south of Columbia's campus and close to the 110 St subway (1 train). It is small inside but there are a few tables and a counter to order at the back. There are a lot of different milk and non-milk/fresh tea options and more than a dozen toppings to choose from. Although there are options to customize the sugar, I ordered my drink with the lowest sugar option possible and it was made with full sugar anyways. The drinks are SO SMALL for the price!! So I find myself back very near Columbia University again and decide to drop into Tea Magic as I have pasted it so many times in the past, I was a warm Saturday night and as I enter I notice that the shop is empty. Well I initially think...great no waiting. I look at the menu and that have a nice variety of drink options. But why hasn't anyone else come into the shop? I place my order (Black Milk Tea, Boba and some salted cheese action on top). They ask me what size and then point to their cup sizes. Their medium is like a large in most places and they large is looked like a 1/2 gallon. No one needs that much. Maybe its for a contest like if you drink it in 30 seconds you get a t-shirt. I get the medium and then the young lady behind the counter tells me the price.....$9.00?!?!? Well now I know why no one is in here. Glad I did not got for the large....I would have had to take out a loan. Now my expectation of this drink was now much higher. I have to say that it had great tea flavor and the boba and salted cheese were very good. Was it $9.00 good. I don't think so. I am taking off one star for the price. Pass by here pretty often but never got a drink here. Finally stopped by this afternoon. I wanted a brown sugar matcha latte with boba and saw they were advertising this exact drink on their window along with a line of other matcha drinks. The drink came out quickly, cost almost $8 for a small. Boba prices have gotten crazy. Boba was chewy, could have been cooked just a little longer. The drink itself was too sweet. At first i thought it was bc of the boba but it was too sweet all the way through. Matcha flavor was there but I wish it was a little richer. Would ask for 50% or even 25% sweetness in the future. Okay, part of this was my issue. I ordered the brown sugar milk tea, which has pictures of tapioca pearls in it. The picture does say "toppings not included" but not being someone who gets too much boba tea, I didn't realize that meant the tapioca pearls in the picture. However, the thing that upset me enough to write a negative review in times of COVID was them sending me a very tiny slice of cake, it was about 1/3 of the size pictured on seamless. It was a $9 cake! I'm unemployed, this was a splurge. I reached out to magic tea when I got my order, offering to send a photo and they said they were unable to do anything for me. Has simply never led me astray. Tasty teas made with barely any wait. Not much of a crowd too--if you're unlucky on timing you might run into a recently-released class of Columbia kids but barring that it's a chill spot. Delicious bubble tea! I've never been to the actual store but I've ordered their tea through Uber Eats several times. Their mango green tea is delicious and my brother told me how much he enjoyed the passion fruit slush. Would highly recommend if you're in the area or can get delivery. read more

I been to tea magic in 72nd broadway so tea magic on 110th cathedral Broadway didn't disappointed me either. The workers were extremely nice which was a big plus toward to this review. Than i also ordered lychee black tea but according to the menu they had lychee green tea. I told the lady in the front can i get with black tea instead and she was like sure. All uniform essential workers will get a 15% off through walk in only. They have this punch card where you get 10 stamps and you will get $3 off if I'm not wrong. The inside well organized, they also sell bottle drinks, macarons for $2 each, they have pudding, and more. If you order drinks online I believe you cant ask for stamps because when I ordered online through 72nd tea magic seamless they were like I cant give you stamps. Place was kinda cute & bubbly but i was so disappointed with the Strawberry Banana Nutella Crepe that i got. Not only is it $14.15 (including tax) but it was very thin and messy .. i eat crepes often & i know how they should look & taste like but this one was drowned in "Nutella" i couldn't even see the crepe. Not only was it drenched in Nutella but it seemed like the Nutella was watered down cuz it was very liquidy & Nutella is thick & rich .. it didn't taste right. There were very little strawberries & bananas too. Also i literally just walked 60 feet outside the shop to eat & found out it wasn't even warm .at all! I ordered delivery from Tea Magic yesterday and I was so disappointed. I ordered a Nutella crepe with strawberries and bananas, a tapioca boba crepe, a Taro milk tea, and a strawberry milk slush. The total was surprisingly high, but I was really craving a crepe so I didn't mind. My tapioca boba crepe looked more like soup when it arrived. There was jiggly egg pudding that tasted like bad cantaloupe all over the crepe. The crepe itself was so thin that I was actually impressed. The boba in the crepe was okay, which was its only redeeming quality. Overall the crepe tasted like Aunt Jemima's syrup, which was sad for about $15. The Nutella crepe was okay, but that's only because it's hard to ruin Nutella and fruit. The strawberry milk slush was strangely tart but my friend was happy with this. I really didn't like my Taro milk tea because it was sickly sweet with just 50% sugar. Save your money and order from any other bubble tea place! read more

I used to go to Tea Magic a lot when I was a student, which was well before I knew about Yelp. I finally went back when I was in the area and had a good experience, just as I used to. Upon arrival, there was a decently sized line, but orders were taken quickly so, despite the business, service was quick. Tea Magic also has a decent seating area for those who wish to hang out. I ordered coffee black milk tea with 50% sugar and bubbles. It had great flavor and they gave me many bubbles. The bubbles were a little too squishy, but still good. My girlfriend had oolong milk tea with bubbles and no sugar. It had a great toasted flavor and was enjoyable. Overall, Tea Magic is a decent bubble tea place in Morningside Heights which, unfortunately, lacks the plethora of bubble tea spots that you find further south. Really cute bubble tea place in the heart of nyc right next to Columbia! The inside, menu, and cups are quite modernized and they also have a lot of different Asian food options. They have shaved ice, frozen yogurt, and sparkling bubble tea which I'd love to try! They also have desserts in the fridge next to the counter as well as food like dumplings, tea eggs, crepes, and soup. The place is quite small, as is expected with nyc places, and there was only one person working there which made it a bit slow. But I liked that they had options for less sugar and ice. P.S. bubble tea tip: ask which flavors can be done with less sugar without distorting the flavor (usually black tea, green tea...) those will be made with actual teas as opposed to powdered flavors that are presweetened and often made with chemicals! read more

My favorite boba tea cafe in Uptown! Although pricey (A little less than $6 for a rather small tea with boba). **They have a $6 card minimum. My favorite is the Pomegranate Black Tea. It's very flavorful but also VERY sweet. I either get it at 50% sugar level which is apparently the lowest they can do (no 25% option) or no sugar added because the Pomegranate syrup is very sweet. I've also had the Mango Green Tea which I thought was okay, not as flavorful as the Pomegranate. The boba is decent. Most times the boba is a nice chewy consistency but on one occasion it was rather hard. However, $0.75 for a small serving of boba is very overpriced. Most boba places in the city are $0.50 and give you much more boba. I've also noticed that whether you order a size small or large, they give you the same amount of boba. In term of atmosphere, theres around 4 small tables, all with good lighting. Although it's not the best place to study due to the loud pop music playing in the seating area. Great grab and go place for boba tea in Uptown, however I highly recommend that their management re-consider how high their prices are, especially given much of the population in that area is students. read more

If you are looking for a good milk tea place that is open late near Columbia, this place is perfect! I loved how big their large size is. As you can see in the picture, it'll last you awhile and really fill you up. Flavor wise the teas were pretty good, average milk teas and the boba was well made although I would have liked more in the Thai milk tea. The frozen yogurt was also surprisingly good. I've gotten violently ill and i'm so sure its from the bad milk they put in my drink, since i ate nothing processed that whole day. Never going back to that place, since they are a store that is RELYING solely on their milk drinks, so i'm extremely disappointed. I told my friends and they also decided to never go there again, since they don't look after our drinks- especially the milk which goes bad in a few hours, which every 5 year old would know. Since they didn't pay attention to their work, i have been trying to clean my car for a day but the smell won't come off. They have many kinds of milk tea and I like it! I got oolong milk tea with bubble and I could taste strong oolong flavor which was nice! My friend got coffee black milk tea and it was just okay I think. Their bubbles were cooked too much and smashed.. I wish the bubbles were more firm!! The bubble tea here is solid and comes in many fruit and milk flavors, and a choice of either slush or tea. The tapioca pearls are chewy and you can customize the amount of added sugar to your tea so that it is not too sweet. You can also add different toppings to your drink - my favorites are the boba poppers and fruit jellies. The prices are very reasonable but beware of the $5 credit card minimum - a bubble tea costs a bit less so be prepared to buy another snack as well. I've had the tea eggs from here which came in a ziploc bag and were too salty. They also sell other frozen desserts like shaved ice and frozen yogurt. There are two flavors of frozen yogurt on their menu - original and cookies & cream - but I've gone three times and every time cookies and cream wasn't available. If they consistently don't have a flavor, maybe they should take it off the menu? Overall, solid bubble tea and reasonable prices - great place for a quick snack near Columbia. read more
