My daughter and I were in the area visiting the flower fields and wanted a refreshing drink after being in the sun and before heading home for an hour plus drive. Luckily after a little research, we found Tea Monks. The parking lot was packed on a Saturday afternoon so I thought we would be in for quite an adventure just to find parking. Fortunately we were able to find a spot fairly quickly. The line was out the door for Tea Monks which can only be a sign that there is deliciousness waiting for us through the front doors. The line moved quickly which was both a pro and a con. Since it was moving so fast, we would have to make a choice from all of the great options. I was torn between the cabana berry smoothie and the green apple slushie. Ultimately landed on the slushie and decided to add strawberry pearl. There are a few small stools to use while waiting but not much room other than that. Fortunately our drinks were up in a matter of minutes. The first sip was heavenly and hit the spot. I'm always skeptical ordering "green apple" because I'm scared that the apple flavor will fall flat but this one was perfect. I could taste the apple and the tartness was great. The strawberry pearl was a perfect addition. I'm so glad we decided to stop here before heading home. read more

It was just okay. We got three drinks. The watermelon frutaro, watermelon smoothie and the mango strawberry tea. The watermelon drinks were a little weak on watermelon flavor. The mango strawberry tea was the best out of the three. We did 50% sweetness which was perfect. No real seating inside, just some tables outside. Found this spot at the Outlets and glad to find a Boba place there. Viewed their Menu from Milk Teas with toppings you can add , Smoothies , Espress drinks , Slushies , Lemonades and they also have Macaroon Ice-Cream sandwiches , Empanadas that looked amazing from beef , chicken and veggie. Always excited to try any tea or boba place. Tea Monks is located close to Ruby's and Starbucks. I got the strawberry lychee flavored tea with a beef empanada. The tea is good and the empanada was delicious, the pastry is light and crispy, comes with some sort of red chimichurri. Great little pick me upper for more shopping. There's a "combo special" sign camouflaged with the menu. A non-blended drink & 2 empanadas for $10 which is a great deal because my order for a drink & empanada was $9.50. Would've been nice for the staff to offer the combo special knowing it would only be a few cents more. Fast service. Good drinks & food. read more

Service: Our cashier was nice, but not efficient. I checked in on Yelp for the 1 free topping. I ordered a drink with boba. I noticed it didn't reflect on the iPad while checking out. She said it won't show on the screen, but they'll add the boba. This was not the case. They forgot to add the boba. Partly my fault for not noticing and trusting the cashier's words. It wasn't until after I grabbed my drink, took a quick photo, and left - that I noticed they forgot to add the boba. At that point I was already in my car, so I accepted the L. Drinks: 1) I ordered the S'mores Milk Tea with boba (did not get boba) and easy ice. I felt the milk tea was more chocolatey. Unsure what part actually made it "s'mores." This was the second time I saw a Tea Monks in San Diego and though I was excited at first, was totally disappointed after. Drinks were so off. I ordered the zen Thai tea and honestly it was the worst I've had. I'm not sure how one can mess this up since Thai tea is one of the staple drink and really easy to make. It was so bland and not milky at all. Had to return for the worker to add more sugar and it still tasted bland. My husband got the mango strawberry tea and even at 50% sugar, it tasted too sweet. 3.5 Decent drink, and the only place that serves milk tea and boba at the Carlsbad Outlets. Once I saw it I stopped in my tracks contemplating on whether or not I should try a drink and I couldn't resist. I ordered a tiger boba (essentially a brown sugar tea) with 50% less sugar. It was pretty good. The boba wasn't without flavor, but I think it could have had slightly more. The best thing about this place is the huge cups. The regular size is a 24oz cup, similar to what places like Sam Woo (takeout) offers. You don't see that very often anymore, so kudos to that. In comparison to other boba places though, it's not very memorable or very bad, hence the fairly average score. Person was very friendly, and the drinks came out very fast (I only had one other order in front of me). I love that this is an option at the outlets now. read more

Needed some caffeine after a full day at Disneyland yesterday and we ran across reviews for this new boba stop. The reviews were VERY mixed and now I can understand why. If you're a boba snob and well established in your boba taste buds, I would not recommend this. Although the boba had a good chew and sweetness, the tea was extremely lacking. My lavender milk tea tasted like a watered down black tea with no lavender flavor at all. I was also disappointed to hear that pretty much everything used to flavor the drinks was powered including the milk which is powder. Not sure which reviewer thought this place was all organic .... Overall, I don't think I would visit again unless I was desperate for boba or was busy shopping. Otherwise, there are much better options. For the high price tag of $6 per drink, I'd prefer an actual organic establishment with real dairy or non-dairy options. read more

It was very watery and I had to ask them to sweeten it a bit more! The boba pearls had no brown sugar flavor whatsoever and were so bland. After they sweetened it a bit more, it was still so bad that I had to get something different. I'm sorry but for almost $7 per drink, I wanted to enjoy it. How can you mess up one of the most classic boba drinks??? This is the second time my boyfriend has been here and agreed it wasn't good this time either. We went shopping at the Carlsbad Outlets and stopped by Tea Monks to replenish our thirst. This was the first time I've seen matcha flavored crystal boba, so of course I had to try it! I ended up getting the matcha milk tea, and it was a perfect pairing with the matcha crystal boba. This drink was really good and you can taste the strong matcha flavor in the drink and the boba. I got 50% sweet, which was just right! The taro milk tea with grass jelly is really good too. This drink is typically on the sweeter side, so the grass jelly kinda helps balance the sweetness. I would recommend getting 50% sweet, unless you prefer your drinks on the sweeter side. My partner in crime Teddy gives it 4 stars, and if Carlsbad weren't too far, we would come here more often! read more

Was shopping in the area and thirsty for a drink so I decided to give this place a try. It is located inside the Carlsbad Outlets right next to Starbucks and Wetzel's Pretzels. They have happy hour Monday-Friday from 10 AM - 2PM where drinks are 15% off. Ordered the Mango Moon Fruit Smoothie thinking it would be like a Mango Smoothie, but didn't taste any mango. It came out to be a purplish color. I think it was mixed with dragon fruit maybe and it tasted mostly like bananas, no mango taste. Although it is advertised as a fruit smoothie, the consistency was watery like juice. Maybe I just chose the wrong drink. The staff were nice. The menu says you can change the sweetness level either to 100% sugar, 50% sugar, or 0% sugar, but if you ask you can also do 75% sugar if the jump from 100 to 50 is too much. The smallest size they have for drinks is 24 oz, but I wish they had a smaller size. The quality was not what I'm used to and it was not the best drink I've had, but the staff were nice. read more

Great location for a boba spot - just grab a drink and shop! Stopped by on a Sunday afternoon and noticed there was a crowd in front of Tea Monks so I assumed it had to be good. I ordered the Zen Thai Tea with boba.. however they were out of boba.. and also more than half of their other toppings so I ended up selecting coffee jelly instead. It took about 10 mins for the drink to be made, so not too much of a wait. Not too sure what the difference is between the Zen Thai Tea vs a regular Thai Tea but the Yelp images definitely influenced me to try the Zen. The Thai Tea was way more milky and creamy than tea flavored. The coffee jelly was okay, really preferred boba though. Overall, the drink was just okay.
