No contest. This is my favorite place for brunch in the North Bay. It's the only meal I've ever eaten here-- never lunch, it's gotta be brunch. Be prepared for a wait, not just to order your food, but to find a table during their rush. Also, bring cash or a checkbook, can't use plastic here! Menus are written on a chalkboard and include a standard and a specials. I typically order my usual, the ménage à troi, which is 1 pancake, 2 eggs, and 3 pieces of bacon (or sausage, if you choose). It sounds basic, but there's just something about it, and when I have the craving, I have to have it. Coffee is good and served with real half and half, not moos. A brightly lit space with high ceilings, portrait windows, and whimsical pieces of art, the ambiance never gets too overwhelming, even with a crowd of people waiting to order or be seated. A definite must if you find yourself antique shopping in this quaint town. Local insider tip: Come for brunch then head to the cinema for a bargain matinee. When in a new city, my boyfriend and I have become very accustomed to checking Yelp first for restaurant and business recommendations. I love you Yelp! And so, with over 100 review and 4-stars, we knew Tea Room Café couldn't be too bad. I got the Hamlet, and while a little hammy, the goat cheese and accompanying bread was delicious. The next time we went here, we tried the fresh Orange Juice (wonderful) and the Menage a Trois - eggs, bacon, and potatoes. They do bacon perfectly! We plan to take any out of town guests here. We just moved to the area from New York. We've had a hard time getting into a good restaurant groove here and just haven't found comparable spots - except for the Tea Room Cafe. We now eat here regularly for breakfast on weekdays. Time and time again, I find myself saying "this is the best breakfast I've ever had." What to get? Order anything. 5 star food + cash only + small building + fighting for a table = chaos It is cash only so don't forget to run to the ATM beforehand. You'll end up fighting for a seat so get a table and leave someone there while you stand in line to order. Also be advised that it is always crowded and chaotic trying to get your food. That being said, the food is fantastic and the decorations are spot on. I've had family from out of town request that we eat here every time they are in town. The quality of the food you get is worth the price and the crowd. It all tastes really fresh and cooked to order. Lattes, mochas, and hot chocolate are served in soup bowls. I can't get enough of the food here! As much as I love the quaintness and down home atmosphere, I wish that they would expand and make this tiny place big enough to accommodate the fans of their food because getting up and showing up before they open just to get a seat isn't always ideal (although it's worth it). ***Update: The staff the last time I was in was abrupt with customers, didn't clean any of the tables, and made snide remarks when I voiced a complaint. Although advertised differently, the bacon is cooked ahead of time and left under heat lamps where it gets soggy, greasy, and mealy. When I brought this to the attention of the staff (two young men) they both told me that there was no way it was bad and that they'd had it many times and it had always been good. When I had them try what I had been served they both agreed that it was gross but didn't offer to replace it or refund it and had no apologies. That is disappointing considering that I hold this restaurant to higher standards than that. read more

Love love love! If you are looking for a delicious brunch in Petaluma, look no further. I came here over the holidays in a big group of my family and my boyfriend's family - about 10 people total with very different eating preferences. Every single one of us left a happy camper. The space was adorable and the food was delicious -- especially the vegan selections (pastries and main/brunch items included!). This my second trip here the food is always first rate however, is not set up for large groups over 4 people. Their are no reservations and tables are on a first come basis so we had to sit at 2 different location both inside and outside because we had a dog with us. We happened go on a busy Saturday morning during the Salute to American Graffiti Car Show so they were busier than normal, however, no matter how busy others receiving their orders who ordered after us should NEVER happen on top of that we waited over an hour for our food which is unacceptable for a breakfast place! In fact after 45 minuets of waiting I inquired how our food was doing and they still hadn't started preparing it WTF! If we Hadn't already paid in advance I would of walked out! Will never go there again if they are busy or with a large group! Take notice. read more

Sweet quasi counter culture breakfast spot in residential neighborhood of Petaluma. Enticing menu with healthy eggs dishes with black beans or potatoes and cornmeal waffles. The "scones" are great light moist pastries. At 9:30 Sunday morning we were the next to be served. At 9:40am there was a line out the door. Great food and service. Decor is sparse and artful. Stopped in for brunch on our way back from wibe country. We ordered the buttermilk pancakes with apples and two softboiled eggs with potatoes and toast. Everything was awesome! The potatos came with grilled garlic which in reading other reviews seemed to freak people out. The garlic was amazing as a spread on our toast. We had the walnut toast- worth the carbs. Even the condiments amazed- delicious raspberry jam and real maple syrup. We'll remember this gem for our next trip. read more

Yummy. This is a superb spot for casual dining. The food is fresh and the ingredients are funky. It's a great place to sit outside and have a get lost in conversation while watching Petaluma's finest stroll by. The staff can be a little unfriendly, but if you get a cookie you will overlook the bad attitude. Yum! They do not offer table service, instead you order at the counter and set your own table. My favorites (besides the oatmeal cookies) are the spinach salad and portabello mushroom sandwich. Double yum! read more

This place was so busy! Obviously a favorite among locals. We had tasty pastries while we waited for everyone to show up, then big breakfasts when they did. They have a good amount of options... all the ones we tried were very tasty; fancy but simple. Honestly, the way you have to order is a little stressful: one big menu at the front of the line, which you can't really see until you get up close and need to order soon. I was just in Petaluma for one night, and of course I consulted my yelp app for a great breakfast place; I like to make every meal count! The Tea Room Cafe was number one, and I liked what reviewers were saying, so my husband and I headed there for breakfast. Their food was so fresh, beautiful and delicious. I had fresh-squeezed orange juice (made when I ordered it), thick and crispy bacon, farm fresh eggs with orange-y yolks, delicious pancakes with real sweet butter and real maple syrup. Oh yes, and a rich hot chocolate with whipped cream - served in a bowl like I had in Paris. Everything was absolutely perfect!! We were there mid-morning on a weekday and most tables were taken. We dined here on a Sunday Morning and it was delicious. The wait was reasonable and the food was spot on. I was wanting Eggs Benedict and boy did I come to the right place. The presentation was just right. My breakfast was yummy and cooked the way I would cook it if I had the time to do so. I had the Benedict with Smokehouse Bacon and Tomatoes. Such a great vibe! I love the feel of this place. You order at the counter and they have a pretty extensive menu of veggie and meat things. The pastries looked amazing but I didn't have one. The food was good... can't say I loved the potatoes, they were dry and needed salt. I would have excused this and given 5 stars, but the fact they don't take debit/credit cards knocks off a star for me. I'm sorry, but when you are a bustling cafe in 2011, you need to take credit. Tea Room Cafe has become one of my favorite places! Food is always outstanding and the staff is friendly! Staff and chef's are knowledgeable of dietary issues/concerns and take them very seriously. Good breakfast places are hard to find but if you are in Sonoma county and near or in Petaluma, please don't miss trying this place The staff is very nice and very helpful with the menu. It is very much a family style breakfast place. You order at the counter and then find a place to sit. Bacon is one of those things that many places never do right. They asked how I liked mine and the cook nailed it! This is a "don't miss" location. P.S. they have a wonderful selection of scones every day, but don't wait to long if you want to try one. I just LOVE this little cafe. Great food (wow the potatoes are to die for! and good sour cream pancakes too--everything is pretty good). My only remark to make is that it is always really difficult to find a table--you really have to fight for them since it is seat yourself and people stand around like vultures to claim tables as they open up. So that makes it difficult to come here with kids, and kind of stressful if you order before you have a table (will I get one before my food comes?). Went here for breakfast while visiting the Sonoma Valley. Had a nice sausage scramble and the wife a regular eggs, toast and potatoes. The food was good, not great, but good for 4 stars. We did hit a snafu as they forgot all about our food. We were in no hurry and we were preoccupy with our smart phone communications, so not a biggie. Biggest surprise, the cook/ owner came over and apologize. Offer a complimentary bakery item and we took the offer of a scone. Wonderful scone. That type of treatment would have never been met in the big city. A big shout out to the small town niceness. read more

We ordered two vegan breakfasts. Waited twice as long for our order to come out and it was pretty bad. The tofu was flavorless, and the onions were undercooked. Beans on the side were just boring and also lacked any flavor. The Tapatio ( only available option) barely made it edible. I wish places like this put more thought, attention and care into their meatless/ dairyless meals. Won't be coming back. Wasted our money:( read more
