I decided to change things up for Easter this year and ordered Stellina Alimentari's 18" Italian sandwich. Since I was picking it up on Saturday and not serving until Sunday, I called and requested that they put some wax paper between the top and bottom of the bread to separate the contents of the sandwich. I thought the bread would get soggy otherwise. They were happy to do it and wrap the sandwich in plastic wrap to keep in the refrigerator overnight. The sandwich was incredible! Everything an Italian sandwich should be! They gave me containers of seasoned olive oil and giardiniera to spread on the bread before serving. We had eight adults and we had more than enough, with a piece left over for my lunch today! I also ordered the cucumber salad with feta, which was a great side dish. I have been a steady client of both Stellina Pronto and Stellina Alimentary and they have never let me down. Mostly a sandwich spot seemingly, but does have deli options with some Italian market specialities. I recently popped in for lunch and ordered up two sandwiches - one was the chicken parm and the second was the turkey. Both sandwiches, and almost all of them sounded, decadent. I prefered the chicken parm over the turkey that for me, was too much. The turkey had bacon, sauces, cheese on a potential foccacia style bread.. it was a lot. The chicken parm was plain and simple and tasty. The chicken was medium thickness, breadcrumbed and fried. The roll was great and overall I enjoyed it. Really good spot to pick up an interesting Italian sandwich. We weren't too hungry so we split two sandwiches among four of us. They are not large so a hungry adult can easily put one away themselves. Service was fast and friendly and we enjoyed checking out the other items for sale while we wait for our food to be made. I do have a current favorite 'The Bobby'- egg salad, olive tapenade, pickled onions on focaccia! Oh my it's so yummy! Great spot in Downtown Petaluma for lunch! They are known for their Italian style sandwiches served on their schiacciata bread. For four we split 4 different sandwiches and they were all delicious! Really enjoyed the sandwiches, even though they were expensive. There's not much seating. The space is packed with cheeses, imported pastas and olives, a beverage case, and bottles of vino There's maybe room for 10 people to dine at small bistro tables and a counter in the window. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The sandwiches were very good. They come on house made focaccia bread, which is light and airy, salty and olive oiley, but still with a delicate crust. My favorite was the Il Paesano which had sopresetta, cheve, caper berries, and a tangy red pepper marinated situation that comes together beautifully on that bread. The Marcella was also quite good, but my wife and I agreed that it really could have used some lemon zest to balance out the creaminess. Also on the particular specimen we received, the distribution of the ingredients was not even. You really need all the things in each bite for the sandwich to work, but when you pay $16 and you get bites without pistachio creme, it's kind of a let down. All the ingredients were high quality and delicious. Parking can be difficult depending on the time of day. Recommend ordering ahead for pick up. Will definitely return and hope that the next sandwich is prepared well. read more

I had and loved an A'Siciliana Limonata to drink (a sweet treat that brought me back to Italy) and to eat: The American sandwich -smoked turkey, bacon, provolone, calabrian aioli, pesto, and romain - $16 My friend had an iced latte and the daily special, a chicken gyro, and also loved both! The ingredients are fresh and delicious. They offer a curated menu of sandwiches, salads/side, snacks (think charcuterie board, bruschetta...), and a few sweets (hello cannoli and zeppole!). The setting is bright and inviting: order counter and display case straight ahead, cold drinks to the right, a few small two-top dining tables (maybe 5 of them) along the back right wall, a few bar seats in the window, and marketplace items available throughout (think pasta, sauce, wines, cheeses, imported Italian treats...). Second time stopping by Stellina Alimentari. Nice casual vibe to the place and friendly staff. But most importantly great food highlighting great ingredients. The charcuterie board was excellent loved adding the fresh thyme to the bites, the meats were cut thin so they almost melt in your mouth. The sandwich was great however the bread was better the first time we came. I wish there was just a slight crunch to the bread. There were also a few pieces of the arugula that were from the stem of the plant. Those pieces were inedible and off putting. Seems like an easy fix. Now let's talk about the Cookie I saw it right before checking out and added it to the order and I'm happy I did! I've been to this particular sandwich shop a handful of ties. I truly love their bakery around the corner!! This particular day I bought a slice of the gluten-free pistachio cake at the bakery, and then walked the block over and came to get a sandwich with a lovely glass of white wine. Lunch: 6. The Americano without bacon and : Aia Del Colombia Fallanghia Del Sannio white wine. (See pix) The cashier was very polite and friendly and informed me the only hot sandwich was a pork based one which sadly I'm allergic to, but she said the Americano was also also very popular so I got that one on her recommendation. The white wine had a incredibly long name and she said it's so eloquently, I didn't dare repeat it. Lol but for$11 a glass it was adequate. Super excited that Stellina Alimentari is finally open! It's a small, Italian deli, grocer, and bottle shop that occupies the space of the former Thistle butcher shop. I'm happy they kept the pig though, which you'll see prominently featured in front of the shop. In terms of the pantry items, there are a lot of dried goods like pasta, grains, rice, etc - all pretty high end, if price is any indication. There's small section of tinned seafood as well, just like they offer at Pronto. The deli offers pre-made salads and sandwiches made to order. We had the "La Marcella", which was absolutely delicious and quite reminiscent of a sandwich I ordered in Florence at All'Antico Vinaio called "La Paradiso". The house-made schiacciata is made super thin, has a crispy outer crust and tender, airy interior, and serves as the perfect vehicle for whatever you're craving in sandwich form. The mortadella in La Marcella is sliced very thinly and was perfectly complemented by the pistachio cream and straciatella. A wonderfully simple, yet very delicious sandwich! We also tried Il Michelangelo, their porchetta sandwich. This one was served on Della Fattoria's meyer lemon rosemary bread. The porchetta was so moist and flavorful and although there wasn't a lot of skin in our sandwich, what was there was very crispy! With the salsa verde, which itself was quite oily, the sandwich was a bit heavy. The choice of using the meyer lemon rosemary bread helped keep things in balance and the rosemary was a nice complement to the porchetta. The bottle shop is very small (~30 wines) and features a selection of both local and Italian wines in the $20-70 range. Prices are higher than you'll find at other retail stores by about 20-40%, depending on the bottle, but it's a great option if you want to dine in and enjoy a bottle of wine. I'm not sure if they charge a corkage on top of the bottle price. They also have some wines by the glass, though I didn't get to see what they had on offer. I'm not sure if it's the placement of the bottle shelves near the front window, but several of the bottles were warm to the touch and I wouldn't want to be the one to shell out $65 to find out whether the wines were heat damaged. I'm really looking forward to working my way through the sandwich menu as there were several options that sounded really delicious! A bit inconvenient but it looked really good and was still a relatively new store. I love Italian sandwiches and so for me, I had to stop by I got the il capo. It sounds boring--just roast beef--but it is the perfect little sandwich. Perfect! Had the savory, salt, and acid!!! Wow so good. It's the new Italian sandwich shop opened in Petaluma and I'm excited to give it a try. I ordered #10 La Bellucci which is all vegetarian. I was curious about the mushroom pate in it and it tasted great!! I don't miss meat at all eating this sandwich!! The only thing I'm not sure about is the bread. It's kinda breaking apart so I'm not able to hold it like a sandwich. It's fluffy but too light to hold the ingredients in the sandwich so it's kinda messy to eat. For dessert, I got Tortoni because I had no idea what that is. I'm so glad I'm being adventurous to try it. It's like an almond flavor ice cream with crumbles at the bottom and on top.
