During my years at Smith this was my go-to place for fast, cheap and good delivery. It became such a habit that I still haven't been able to take their phone number out of my contacts. I have yet to find a dish I didn't like on their menu. I could always expect the food to be delivered in under half an hour, still piping hot. Sure, it's not exactly out-of-this-world and there's nothing about their menu that really stands out from your standard Chinese restaurant, but what they do, they do well. I love their noodle dishes, especially since they're never swimming in sauce like they are at other places. And the sauce that comes with the scallion pancakes is so damn good. I also love all their choices for veggie sushi. The veggie sushi lunch special in particular is presented very nicely and very filling. And the bubble tea is great - especially the honeydew flavor. If you're looking for overpriced, mediocre Chinese food and sushi then The Teapot is for you! The food is typical American style Chinese food but by looking at the prices on the menu it would be easy to be convinced otherwise. I've been here several times and never had an issue with the food (sushi or cooked dishes) but the service often leaves something to be desired. On several occasions our waitress (a different one each time) seemed as if she was trying to be as rude as possible. This is a good place to go if you are trying to show off a big paycheck to some friends, but if you're looking for a better value Chinese food restaurant, I suggest Taipei and Tokyo right down the street. read more

Delivery Very fast Japanese and Chinese cuisine delivery. I've always received my order in under a 1/2 hour and would definitely recommend it as delivery. Eat In Standard Chinese or Japanese fare fairly price, conveniently in downtown. However, Zen has a wow factor for both sushi and pan-Asian cuisine that Teapot does not but the Teapot is less expensive and certainly decent. Listen, one doesn't go to Teapot for high quality food and service. To those giving 1 or 2 stars, shame on you! There is a time and place for Teapot, and you're clearly just not doing it right. The food is relatively inexpensive, tasty, and never has a long wait (unless you order for delivery). Teapot is the dominos of chinese food (I say chinese because I don't believe I've ordered any of the japanese offerings). It doesn't cost much, it tastes damn good, but you probably won't feel great after. Simple as that. If you're looking for gourmet sushi, it's not your place. I keep trying to like it, but...there's something about the heavy-handed sauces and seasonings that make me say EVERY TIME that this will be my last time ordering takeout from Teapot. I just find things too oily and soy-y (salty, I guess). That being said, the central Main Street location is great, and the open-air front wall in the warmer months might make dining-in a different experience than delivery, so perhaps it's one of those places where the experience as a whole is better than when you only have the food to go by. It used to be the place I went for Chinese food in downtown...now no longer the case. Every time I stepped into their doors there was a weird, indistinguishable smell. It is different from the typical smell due to Chinese cooking style. I suspect that the specific cooking oil they use may contributes to such smell. I am not saying that if it is good or bad oil, because I don't know the truth, but to me personally it is an uncomfortable, alarming smell, and I lose appetite when I smell it. Their dishes were almost always very oily, even the soups are oily and salty. Is it that difficult to cook just OK food? I can probably do better job than Teapot does. There are many better Asian restaurants in town. Even Teapot probably has the best location among them, If it doesn't catch up, it will eventually be defeated by the others. The welcome to the restaurant was around 7 pm when the waitress came to our table with the menus chewing rice while she talked to us. (She did the same when she gave us the check) It was friday night, and our usual sushi place was packed with a 30-40 minutes waiting list... Our 6 year old was getting hungry to the point of becoming a monster. We stumbled upon this place with only 5 tables with people dinning... That should have been our sign to no eat there! Blinded by hunger and now our friend and 2 year old kid getting restless and hungry too we decided to bite the Tako! Portions were smaller than other places, prices very close to tge rest of the Sushi eateries around, freshness of the fish... Well, fresh from 2 days ago. The Tako nigiri was sliced too thick and was rubbery beyond edible... Our vegetarian friend was very pleased by the quality of his veggie rolls. They do have Gluten Free soy sauce available for what is worth. Nobody on our party got gluten poisoned. We'll not come back -ever- for borderline fresh sushi, a waitress chewing food while taking our order and an almost clean restaurant. read more

I had previously remained a fan of this restaurant because of their duck, and their ribs, as their other dishes are sub-standard. I just tried to eat the ribs that were leftover from yesterday, however, and found that the cooks did not remove the membrane. The meat also had that slightly spoiled taste. You pay for a restaurant to cook your food and you would hope that they have some sort of culinary ability, but these folks do not. Teapot was a place I'd always passed, wondered about, and finally decided to give a try one day when I was in the moon for Chinese food- and also the power was out on our half of Main Street and we needed food. I understand it was the summer, but when establishments leave their doors open, there is always the risk of flies. Is potentially getting a screen so costly? The HayMarket is also guilty of this big time. So when insects are around, it's hard to eat comfortably. The service was alright...I think there was only one girl doing most of the servicing and she was confused...a woman behind me said they were missing a tea and the girl ran back to get it, then another girl came out and gave it to me- I was confused and thought it came with my meal so I accepted it before a few minutes realizing it was not meant for me. It took a bit long for us to order and then to get our check in the end- but once again i will give credit because it was one girl. My food was very mediocre. The menu did not look like it offered anything I wanted to take a bet on so I just got chicken chow fun or low mein (I can't remember) and found myself in one of those scenarios where there was about 80% bean sprout and cheap veggies and 20% noodles. The chicken was alright in amount but kind of rubbery. I never throw out leftovers, but I did with these later. My boyfriend lamented that his veggie lo mein was just as blah, and my roommate had a pork bun he described as "90% filler- and not very good filler at that". Oh dear. So overall: There are a lot of Asian restaurants in Noho that feature Chinese and Japanese fair. I love the sushi lunch box here - I have been getting the tofu crunch rolls and spice tuna for the most part. The meal comes with miso soup, two sushi rolls and a side salad. The tofu roll is great. The flavor is a perfect blend of traditional Japanese flavors with some strong western influences. The spicy tuna roll is spot on. The Miso Soup is delicate yet traditionally Japanese with lots of seaweed. The salad comes with an incredible miso dressing that is frankly one of the best I have ever had. The price is great. This place has the traditional Chinese you see with sushi. I always have a good meal here, and have even had delivery to my home. The hostess even tried to teach my son how to use chop sticks. I never feel rushed here when eating at the restaurant. Service has always been great. I think they just need some creative varieties of sushi that would be unique to their place. read more

Service is decent, the waitresses usually aren't the friendliest. However they're always attentive and make sure everything is acceptable and that drinks are filled. The food is always tasty. I've tried several different sushi rolls and lunch specials. For there being copious amounts of fried food on the menu, it's not as greasy as a lot of other restaurants I've visited. The egg rolls are some of the best I've had in the area. The chicken they serve is lean and well cooked. The pork fried rice is a little bland for my taste. Decore is fairly plain. I can almost never go to Northampton without going to the teapot. While there are challenges to the place (Odd waitstaff, generally) I have had some of the best food here. I have had both Chinese and Japanese cuisine here. Sushi, tempura, sweet and sour, dragon and phoenix, veggie chow fun and best of all a version of orange spiced tofu that knocked my socks off. (Not on the menu, was made for myself and a vegetarian friend at our request.) For drinks I've kept it simple. Water, hot teas, occasionally a soda. Not much to do wrong there. Overall I can honestly say it's a solid place with good food at somewhat reasonable prices. They feed you pretty well (I almost always have leftovers) but there's no real bargain there. Good ambiance. Prices are a bit high, but no more so in any holiday/college town. Seriously. Come to Saratoga. This is downright reasonable. Never needed a reservation, but good luck finding parking on a Friday night, by the way. read more

Disgusting. That's the short review. I've always joked with friends who insist some sushi restaurants have better prepared sushi than others. How can you tell? What is there to being a sushi chef. You're just cutting some fish and wrapping it in white rice. Well, now I know. After tasting the absolute worst sushi I have ever had. Any other restaurant would have a thick cut of fish lying atop the cylinder of rice. At teapot, the fish is 'shaved', so they can get probably 5 pieces out of what any other restaurant would need for just one. I also got the tempura sweet potato roll. The sweet potato was raw. RAW! Though it was dipped in tempura. The good side (or bad) was that the pieces were probably half the size (in width) of what I have had at more than a dozen other places. We got chow fun which had no flavor. None. The bubble tea was. Well, it LOOKED like bubble tea, but it was undrinkable. And finally, my friend finished his sushi while I was still eating and the waitress takes his plate away, and then says to me 'do you want yours wrapped?' I reply 'no', since I was still eating it. So she says 'okay, I'll just take your plate'. My friend says 'He is still EATING!' She looks horrified like she just realized how rude she had been and walks away and returns 15 seconds later with the check. I guess she wanted to go home or something, not that the restaurant was even close to closing, since it was HOURS before their closing time. Also, the air conditioning must have been broken because it was hot inside, and there were flies landing all over our food. And the final kicker? Prices as high as in Boston. Avoid this place like the plague. read more

I am vegan and therefore often struggle to find excellent restaurants that can accommodate my diet. Teapot is one of my favorites in Northampton, because it offers not only excellent standard Chinese food but also delicious sushi. The last time I was at Teapot, I was excited to see that they now feature a menu of vegetarian mock meats. Out of curiosity, I ordered the Vegetarian Fish Finger and the vegetarian Spicy Chicken with Peanuts. Both were delicious, as was the Fried Tofu appetizer. I have yet to have a bad meal at Teapot, and with the addition of the vegetarian menu, I will be frequenting the restaurant more often. read more

I agree with what Sabrina said in her review; it was much better about 10 years ago, but now it's not at all the same place. They used to make the best General Tso's around but the quality of meat used has declined and the service is purely awful. This place used to be bustling, but now it's seemingly much more empty. I should note at the outset that this review only deals with Teapot as a delivery restaurant. We've gotten delivery from Teapot for years, and the quality of the food when it reaches us is excellent. Everything that is supposed to be hot is hot, everything that is supposed to be cold is cold, the packaging is such that the food arrives intact, and the food comes very promptly--usually beating their delivery time estimate. Teapot delivers pretty much anything that's on their menu. Frankly, when we go out for sushi, we head to Osaka. But if we're looking to have sushi delivered to us, Teapot does an outstanding job. We're consistently pleased. If you're looking to have sushi or Chinese food delivered in the Northampton area, Teapot is a great option. read more

I go here pretty frequently, the staff is pretty awesome! The food is pretty good too! I'm not a fan of their hot foods, but love their sushi! The fish is always thick cut! and when ever i order sushi they give me the belly side of the yellow tail! The tuna is fresh too! They also have done custom orders for me. I got hamachi kama; something non one else in the valley offers! When ever you order beer they always open the bottle for you as well! The owners are also very nice people, they always give me service edemame. And the best part to it all is that they are open late! read more
