Honestly, I'm not sure why this place / Tech2Us are rated so highly. Summary is at the bottom. After UPS broke my PC, I was searching for a reasonably priced PC repair shop and Tech 2U came up as an option. I was told the diagnostics would take 4-5 business days and so I paid an extra $50 for expedited 1-2 days service. After I was told that my computer needed its graphics card replaced, I was quoted $179 for the installation + $500 for the graphics card itself, which would take 7-10 business days to arrive. All in with tax, I was looking at $767 for a less than 1 year PC that originally costed me ~$1000. I later found out that Tech 2U charges extra for ordering your graphics card. The GTX 1650 is priced right now on Amazon for $335 and I was quoted $500 for simply having them order it for me, which was absolutely absurd, not to mention, their process takes 7-10 business days vs 2-day prime shipping when you order it yourself. After calling a few other tech repair stores near me, I eventually settled on a local business (vs. franchised Tech 2U) called Allocate Tech Repair, which quoted me ~$45 to install (vs. $179 for the same service) and it was going to be SAME DAY. Since it was so cheap, I ordered a more detailed hardware inspection service where they inspect each piece thoroughly vs just using a 3rd party software (not included in Tech2U) for another ~$50 and a complete re-assembly / cleaning just to really make sure all the nuts and bolts were tightly refitted for another ~$50 (also not included in Tech2U). All told, labor costed me $150 at Allocate for SAME DAY DIAGNOSTICS / COMPLETION for a much more thorough inspection than Tech2U for $179. Additionally, instead of marking me up 50% for a new GPU, they offered an existing used one that was in good working condition for $230. They later gave me a detailed breakdown on why the used GTX 970 was even better than the GTX 1650 for what I needed my computer for and gave me a detailed breakdown on my options. All told, my total at Allocate ended up being $400 flat for better service / advice / quality of work / same day speed In summary, Tech2U is completely overpriced and seems to have that generic "franchise level of quality and speed", with workers who generally knew about computers but weren't experts. For maybe your average non-technical person who wants to remove a downloaded virus, this could be a good place. For much better bang for your buck, please visit your local tech repair shop, whose owners likely are actual experts

My original call where I was quoted $49.99 for over the counter ram swap.

TL:DR - Thank you Kevin for making it right. Thanks Mike for doing what was right. I'm the tech person overseeing over 150 computers & 40 laptops. We have 5 HP laptop 17-BY4067ST, all very basic laptops for some remote employees. I called the phone number listed on yelp talked to a Kevin over the phone. Explained the HP is very basic, I changed the RAM outmyself on the employee's that live locally around me, but we have one that lives far up north and I found Tech 2U on yelp. Can you give me a quote and a ETA when you can get this done? I was quoted $49.99 for over the counter ram change and they would make sure the laptop boots and confirm in the task manager that the new ram is correct. PERFECT (Or so I thought) My employee went there today and met with Mike who quoted $600+ (for labor, new hard drive, new antivirus, ect...) in repairs needed (Keep in mind the laptop was a black Friday sale for only $499.99 from Staples). I told him that's I could buy a new laptop for that price and he brushed me off saying that's my choice. I called back the original phone # I called and spoke to Kevin again luckily, he remembered our conversation, spoke to Mike and we all agreed that $49.99 was the fair price for the ram upgrade nothing else would be needed at this time. Me and Mike had a conversation and I understand that business need to upsell to make al living, and I understand that he ran some benchmarks and that he recommended preventative maintenance could help in the long run, but I cannot believe that you would recommend repairs that are worth more than the laptop +$100.

My first review was uneducated and unwarranted. The job I was expecting I did not explain nor did I know how to ask for. They did a great job 10 out of 10 recommend!

I used the Yelp service quote feature to get a quote to repair my broken headphones from various…read morebusinesses in the area. Fix My Gadget responded with a quote to repair my headphones for a flat $35. When I went to the location on 11/27 to drop off my headphones, the young guy took the headphones and charged me $35 for the repair and gave no indication of when they would be fixed just that they would call us. Later that evening I received a text message that they found the issue, parts will be ordered, and the headphones will be ready for pickup in a week . There was no communication of the cost of these parts, that they were in addition to the $35 I had already paid, or confirming if I wanted to continue with the repair knowing the new cost. They just ordered the parts and assumed I would pay for them. One week later, on 12/5 I hadn't heard from Fix My Gadget, so I texted. I got a response that the parts were arriving on 12/6 and by 12/7 the repair would be done. On 12/7 I hadn't heard back...again, so I texted. Fix My Gadget responded saying the parts will be delivered on 12/14. Another week later, on 12/14, I hadn't heard bak, so I texted....again. I got a response that the headphones were ready for pickup. When I arrived at the store, I tested the headphones and everything worked great. I'm guessing these were different headphones altogether, because they wouldn't pair with the devices they were previously paired with at originally. In addition, Fix My Gadget charged me an addition $62 for "parts" which they never communicated or confirmed I was willing to pay. Come to find out, the $35 I originally paid was a nonrefundable deposit as the person at the business explained to us their process, but it was the first time we heard it. Overall I paid almost $100 for my repairs that I was not expecting. The communication was most likely broken down due to the multiple ways we contacted the business where each representative probably assumed our first point of contact explained things, but we were unhappy with the information we got during the entire process. We were happy that Fix My Gadget was able to fix my headphones in the end. I think anyone who uses their services will need to ask more questions than we did and the experience will be better.

I had my husband go in to get my phone diagnosed because the screen turned white and then turned…read moreblack and would not turn back on. First they tried one screen after 4 hours of my phone being in their office it was glitchy and did not work. They tried another screen that one also didn't work then they tried a 3rd screen that they did not state was $350. They had my husband in there for 4 1/2 hours and even an hour past closing time. He was arguing with the owner of the shop over the phone for those entire 4 hours trying to get a refund for the $130.66 and they finally agreed to refund it since we did not want the screen and they took it off and put my broken one back on. They ended up giving him $87.00 back and scammed $43.66 out of the money we paid. No this did not include the $35 deposit that you have to pay to get your phone diagnosed which you do not get refunded which is understandable. They then came to the conclusion that the battery is bad in my phone and needed to be replace and the owner of the store wanted another $35 to diagnose if my battery is actually bad and then however much more on top of that to replace the battery he said no and left at 8pm last night. He went back in today and the owner was refusing to answer the workers phone calls because they have to get verification that they can give cash back. I did the math on the markup price of the original $150 screen replacement that they still wanted to sell to me even though it was glitching and malfunctioning. I found the website they order from and they are charging a 74.43% markup on replacing the screen. DO NOT GO HERE UNLESS YOU WANT MONEY SCAMMED FROM YOU. I will be going back myself and getting my money back.
