My 2014 MacBook Pro battery was long overdue for a replacement so I set out to get a few quotes for the job via Yelp and Alex, the owner responded to the bid almost immediately. I provided him with the exact model # and he gave me a quote. I stop by to make a 50% deposit so he can order the replacement battery and after a few days it arrived and I stopped by to drop off my laptop. He quoted me 1.5hrs for the repair since he was still working on another project. About an hour later, much less than the quoted time- he was done. I came in to inspect the laptop and see that it charges and the battery health in the operating system updated as new instead of the old alert for replacement- I knew it was good to go. I didn't get the MacBook fixed here because the computer is too old and the part was not available. *BUT* the guy I talked to over the phone helped me get into the computer so now it is usable. FOR FREE. If you're interested in the details, read on. The number 3 button on my daughter's 2012 MacBook air went out, and this prevented us from unlocking the computer since her password had the number 3 in it. The computer has been sitting on a shelf in my room for maybe four years now, because I am a lazy procrastinator and the kid just started using my MacBook instead. A few months ago, my daughter asked to fix her computer or to get a new one, since she would be starting college courses soon. So I decided to look into how much it would cost to fix vs buying a new computer. First I called Apple. They wanted over $400, which was not worth it to fix such an old computer. Then a company in Los Alamitos wanted $350ish. Also not worth it. Then a company in Long Beach wanted $250ish, which I was willing to pay, but their online system of making an appointment was too complicated for me. Then I called Tech Labz, and he said he couldn't get the part to fix the computer but suggested I plug in an external keyboard to enter the password. I did not know you could just plug in an external keyboard. I thought you had to install drivers and stuff. NO ONE else suggested this to me. We were traveling to visit family in So. Cal. and during the trip the UCB-C charging port on our youngest daughter's Samsung Galaxy tablet got messed up because the wrong connector got jammed into the port. As a result the tablet could no longer charge. For those of you with kids know that you need to keep them entertained when on family road trips. We called a number of places and we got varying degrees of responses ranging from "it can't be repaired" or "it would take multiple days". Came in for a broken screen on my iPhone 5S, left with a broken phone. I came in with my phone working perfectly fine with just a broken screen and got the phone back in a vegetative state, couldn't restore it or do anything with it. Omar, the owner, even had me pay first and then basically told me 'hey, by the way, it doesn't work anymore'. So now, I'm out $200 and a month's worth of pictures. Come here at your own risk because they didn't offer to reimburse me for the phone or even apologize. The employees at the Apple store said something might've been short circuited when it was being repaired, which makes sense because I gave it to him in working condition and I got it back useless. My wife's iPhone XS Max screen broke and I initially experienced some sticker shock when calling for repair estimates. In addition, I spoke to 3 other repair companies in the area on a Thursday and they all stated they needed to order the component and it would not arrive until the middle of next week.
