I must give Technical Service Advisor, Ralph Pond a huge shout out and thank you for some pretty extensive repairs to my wife's 2023 BMW X5 and for arranging payments through my Extended Warranty Co. Ralph managed to obtain formal permission from the Warranty Co to pay for 75% of the cost within just hours. Absolutely delighted and that's why I have used Tech Plus Automotive for 3 cars, BMW M550i, Toyota Highlander Hybrid and now BMW X5 for many years. They are the most honest and thoroughly professional auto shop I have experienced. Their work is timely and often costs less than originally quoted. Ownership changed hands in 2022 but many of the highly skilled mechanics remained and the front office service advisors are top notch as are the original highly skilled mechanics who remained and providing quality repair work. The service on my wife's X5 today went like clockwork. They sent me photos of old parts needing renewing and only completed necessary work with my permission. True professionals! I wouldn't hesitate in recommending this 5 star auto shop to anyone, especially those fed up with main dealer slap dash work. read more

I made an appointment well advance so I could coordinate the estimated 2.5-3 hour repair with my schedule. My appointment was not honored as all the bays were occupied upon my arrival and I had to wait 45 mins. Apparently, the parts also were not in stock even though I made the appointment 5/12 for 5/27. When the parts did arrive, Jeff peeked around the corner and said they were finally ready and told me a price. I did not recall the price when quoted previously so I assumed it was OK for a 3 hour job. Imagine my shock and disappointment to have the car finished in under an hour and I discovered almost half of the bill was for labor. $393 for less than an hour's work is shocking! Was there a team to work on the car so the labor was justified times 3. Had I seen paperwork outlining that cost opposed to a casual "this is the cost", I would have disputed it and not had the work done. I used to service my car at Tech Plus when Gary was the owner and I was satisfied with the work and pricing. I returned when I felt Lexus was inflating their prices. This recent experience I had at Tech Plus makes me think I made the wrong choice and I feel ripped off and taken advantage of. And it makes the Lexus dealership prices look good. Online reviews are important for businesses and I am troubled that I cannot give you a good one. After contacting the owners, I received no response to my concern. So here comes the review for an unresponsive ownership. Suggestion, review all pricing in advance on paper. Make sure it is fair and clear. Or better yet, go someplace else. read more

I was charged nearly $100 to change a dirty K&N air filter with a clean K&N air filter that I brought with me. A 15 minute job at best. Will never use this shop for anything again. read more

I have never written a negative review about any business until now! I took my Audi A8 for heater hose replacement to this shop. Tech Plus confirmed they have an Audi certified tech- before I authorized the repair (they lied-turns out they do not).They charged not the $1000 but $4000 for the repair, which what choice do I have and I was out of the country and trusted when they upcharged. Ok, that's fine. Tech Plus returned the vehicle to me with leaking from the same hoses (not visible) into the interior of the engine compartment which caused catastrophic damage to the vehicles electrical and engine totaling over $12,000. This doesn't include all the other things you have to replace when tearing the engine out. I took the car back to them when the sensor they replaced faulted to get their help. The tech tried to tell me I had reverse jumped the car and shorted out the entire electrical system and needed to charge $900+ to investigate? When I explained I had not jumped the car for any reason the woman at the front desk became curt and rude. I immediately took the vehicle to the Audi dealership and that is when the Audi team video taped the faulty repair from start to finish. Tech Plus even mounted the wiring harness wrong which was grounding out and made the sensor fault. I reached out to ownership again to make this repair right-they never returned my calls or emails. To date, I have won the dispute on my credit card for the $4000 and now I am taking this company to civil court to recapture the loss to make my financial situation whole but the car is ruined. It has been such a great car until now. I will also file a complaint with every agency that governs this kind of business in Arizona. So sad, I have never had to do anything like this before. DO NOT USE THIS SHOP if you value your vehicle. Customer service is awful if they make an error. I am new to N. Scottsdale and am an honest and loyal customer. This experience has been worse than I could ever imagine. As a woman going into a highly reviewed shop and to be treated this way, I am sure I won't be the last person this will happen to. Looks like since the owner who gained the 5 star rating sold, its been downhill for a lot of people. Wish I was warned! So beware!!! I wish I could post the video, documentation of how much damage they did and emails sent to them. I am going to have to save it for the judge. Such a waste of time but when people are dishonest and do major damage you have to at least try to make them do what is right. **The only communication I did get was their response to my 1*Google Review. Did not provide quote in advance, but because I had worked with them in the past and was satisfied, I figured I was okay approving an alternator change. They removed the battery so I could take that back (under warranty), and they put it back in for me. However, BMW has the alternator change in my car is listed at 3 hours, plus maybe 15 mins TOPS to uninstall and reinstall the battery. At the end of the day, and $1900 later I have my car back with a brand new alternator (not refurbed because I wasn't given the choice). But given the info I could gather, I ended up being over charged by somewhere around $500. Won't be back. read more

I had Tech Plus Auto put a used engine in my 2002 porsche boxster that was purchased online from Engine World with a 5 year warranty. After Tech Plus installed engine they said engine was no good. I don't blame them for the engine, but I do blame them for giving up on me. I spent $7000.00 on this engine replace and paid them the full amount right away. The engine ran but had some microscopic metal in oil. I asked them to fix it but they said they don't want my money anymore. This auto shop doesn't communicate properly, adds materials like new car battery without telling you until its time to pay for it, and you will find that there not very customer oriented and you get the feeling that its about them and not about customer. I gave them a lot of business and was still dumped on . Thats why Im giving them one star, I would put 0 star but thats not an option. read more

I took my car in for a second opinion after I took it to the Dealership. After about 45 minute wait, their diagnostics were the same as the dealer's. I asked the mechanic in charge if he had performed a specific test ( Smoke test) to determine the issue, he said he had not. He said that he didn't have to do that test because it was done at the dealership!. He added that he looked in my files that were (purposely hidden) in the car and found a file marked with the dealership name, and read the estimate and diagnostics that was provided by the Dealership. I told him that I wasn't happy with that and he shouldn't have looked in my PRIVATE files, and asked that he should perform that test to determine the problem so I can get an accurate second opinion, that's when he got loud and disrespectful and said that I insulted his intelligence and told me to "get the f*ck out of here". I tried to be nice and I apologized if he felt that way, but he repeated his cussing words and pointed his cordless drill in my face and told again to get the f*ck out. I went to the office manager to complain, he started defending the mechanic and said that the information about my dealership diagnostics was on carfax.com, which was another lie. The office manager was completely unprofessional. instead of resolving the issue peacefully and apologize for his mechanic's manners and behavior, he was defending him and got really loud and told me if I don't like it I can take my business somewhere else. Been coming to Gary for the past 5 years and he is by far the most honest and dependable mechanic around!! I love going to his shop- it's always nice to see him (and snag a few pieces of candy he always has out- lol). But, also he's gone out of his way to help me locate a tire center with my car when I was in the middle of the desert on a road trip. It's obvious- his dedication to customer service and repairing performance puts him and tech plus automotive team in a league WAAAYY above the rest!! A bit tardy in leaving this review as it reflects service in Jan of 2012 but their service was so impressive I think better late than never applies here! During a holiday visit to Scottsdale the in-tank fuel pump on my Volvo went bad. Unfortunately, on my particular car, this is no small job (over 20+ hours labor). It's a difficult and laborious job for anyone to preform, even a seasoned mechanic. After having my car towed in, the guys at Tech+ diagnosed the problem and gave me the bad news (as I had guessed) about the necessary repair. They ordered the part and had the work done a few days later. So far, very good service but nothing over the top. Within 3 days of getting the car back I knew something was seriously wrong. Fuel pumps occasionally make a slight whine but this one sounded like a small jet turbine. Outside the car it was even worse...people would stop and stare as I drove down the road! I took the car back to Tech+ and told them "I think the pump that was installed is bad". The odds of getting a bad factory part are very small and initially they seemed skeptical (understandably so) of my diagnoses. They came out of the office though to listen to the noise and immediately said "Oh, gosh no." This is where their integrity really came to light. They were incredibly apologetic (much more so than necessary...it wasn't their fault!) They immediately set to working with the parts distributor to make things right, got another part, took care of my rental, went through another week long repair, and had me back on the road again as fast as possible. A lot of garages would have tried to dodge the issue, especially given what a PITA this repair was. The guys at Tech Plus though stepped up to the plate immediately when it was apparent that something wasn't right. They were everything that a great garage should be: professional, efficient, and operating with the highest integrity. If I lived in the Scottsdale or north Phoenix area, I wouldn't hesitate to use Tech Plus for all my automotive repairs. An absolutely top notch garage and staff! read more

I presented Gary and his 5 star mechanic Ken with an extremely challenging issue with my BNW 745LI when the engine light would not go off and the car could not passs emissions testing and could not be re-licensed. It was so challenging that I paid the BNW dealer $200 to diagnose the problem and make recommendations to repair it. The BNW dealer made recommendations that would have cost thousands of dollars and the actual problem wasn't on their list. I paid another BNW repair specialist hundreds of dollars to unsuccessfully identify the problem and make repairs. Tech Plus spent more time than I was charged for and using logic and expertise to solve the problem. I would highly recommend them!! read more

I've had the experience of going to Tech Plus recently, for the first time, to have my oil and filter changed. The work done was fine though they were trying to sell me at the time of my checkout on some additional work which I knew to be unnecessary. Fyi, I keep my car in mint condition and have previously always taken it to my dealership. However, since that time I've received multiple text messages as well as emails which I've had to opt-out of since most of them were redundant, unnecessary, and bothersome. This is not how a company should market themselves for the purpose of client retention. Today, I received an email noting that based on their records, my vehicle is due for its next oil and future change. The email accurately stated the date and mileage of my prior oil and filter change --- this was two months ago and they state the miles interval as being less than 4,000 miles. I've actually driven fewer miles. The old rule of thumb for oil/filter change intervals has been every six months or five thousand miles when using a conventional oil. I use a full synthetic which clearly can go for a longer interval though even if I did use conventional oil, that interval is four months and thousands of miles in the future! This attempt at badgering a client to have unnecessary work performed is totally unacceptable! I will not return to Tech Plus and suggest other people to beware. read more

We had over $1200 worth of work less than 2 years ago, and one of the items they did was replace the rear brakes. This included turning the rotors and replacing the pads. 28k miles later they are already down to 3mm and starting to scar the rotors. Anyone who knows anything about cars, knows the rear brakes wear a lot slower than the front. And 28K miles is really abnormal to replace rear brakes so quickly. Let's just say I've never had a car, which I've owned many, ever wear the rear brakes this quickly. So i called and spoke to Gary (who was very defensive as soon as he got on the phone) and I pleasantly told him of the situation and asked if there's anything he would do. To be honest, it looks like the work wasn't even done, but I told him and will Yelp that I am not pointing fingers or making any accusations. But he told me to bring it in, which I would have done. But I asked if I bring it in, and the brakes are in the condition I say they're in, will he replace them. He said no. So somehow these brakes that lasted over 60k miles before, just lasted only 28k miles this time. Same driver, driven the same way since we bought the car new 5 years ago. I feel that Gary should have said to bring it in, and if they were in the condition I said they're in, that he would replace them at no charge. But nothing even remotely close to doing that. Rather, he was defensive and basically tried to make me think I know nothing about cars, which isn't the case. Far from it. That's why I didn't have the shop that noticed it, during a routine oil change, do the work until I checked with the last shop that did it. Thinking the shop would make it right. I sold my car today that had just been serviced by a Certified Mechanic. When I arrived for my appointment, the Manager/Owner was arguing with another customer on the phone about services performed. This continued while I waited for approximately 10 minutes (I actually texted the Buyer about this while I was waiting because he found these guys on the internet). I dropped off my car, that is in excellent shape and walked around in Scottsdale Quarter. When I returned, the buyers arrived about the same time. I asked the young man that took the car how it checked out to which he replied...my Dad checked it and it's fine. The other person, arguing earlier promptly looked at him telling him it's not his job to say and to be quiet. I then was told of a laundry list of items that are wrong with the car. These items included BMW service-related issues that are factory-suggested at 100K miles (my car has 55K on it). They also stated other supposed "leaking" things that need to be repaired in addition to brake fluid flush that had been done 2 months earlier. Their "deal" to do these immediately necessary minimum repairs was near $500; they charged $110 for this service. Other items would be several more hundred. I called the Certified Mechanic and all of their "required" things will now be done (because they totally spooked the buyer...and rightfully so...I wouldn't buy something IF it had those things wrong with it) are costing $330. I feel cheated and undoubtedly the person on the phone arguing over his bill felt the same way. I may be generous on my star-rating above:( read more

Regret taking my car here. You'd think for the outrageous prices they have they'd do good work...well your wrong. They don't give a damn about you or your car. For example, mechanic didn't even bother properly torquing my lug nuts down, he just put them on as tight as he can and went on to mess up the next car. I guess pulling out a torque wrench and setting the proper torque spec for lug nuts is too much work for him. I had to correctly re-tighten all 20 lug nuts in my drive way and I'll tell you they were WAYYYY too tight which can cause serious damage. What made me take my wheels off you ask?? Good question, the $150 alignment that I paid for was still making my car pull to the right. Even after the test drive and still pulling to the right they still gave me my car back that way. So the owner recommended the front wheels need to be rotated. I decided to do it myself and not let them do it since they'll probably make things worse and that's when I noticed the lug nuts were on there way too tight. Maybe they didn't like my face and wanted to get me out of there ASAP. Just another shop that doesn't give a s***. I need to learn to work on my own car this is getting ridiculous you can't trust anyone. read more

I am actually a little late for this review, I have to say I have never had a better experience at an automotive repair shop. Have an LR3 and spoke with Landrover dealership who said it sounded like new engine but they would need to run a $750 diagnostic test to find out. Took to a to remain nameless shop in Tempe with a great reputation and a radio show, paid $100 in towing and $240 for a diagnostic test. Only to tell me we really don't deal with Landrovers, but could quote me on a new engine because they are pretty sure it is a broken valve stem. Oh geez thanks, maybe you could have told me this prior to me writing you a check. Still think they are a creditable shop overall though. I was desperate and did not want to call it quits, found Gary's shop on google and for just over $100 he would run a diagnostic test. I was skeptical but this would have been the final dagger for the Rover's retirement. I gave Gary all my service records and he knew what I was willing to spend. Called me the next day and told me to come get my car, it was a $400 fix. A bad fuel valve, seriously! After giving me a great overview of the overall condition of the engine, I had him replace a lot of belts, fluids, and hoses as well. Price was right as he quoted, no surprises, no delays, and great experience. 10k miles later and 4 months, it runs like a charm. Thanks Gary, he has a great shop and truly and honest guy. read more

I am glad I found them and will continue to use them for service. Like the dealership my car was washed when I picked it up, a nice added touch. As a first-time customer, I requested an appointment for an oil change and asked for a quote to include the use of synthetic oil. I received a quote of approximately $61 and kept the appointment which was 2 days later. I took time during my workday to drive to the appointment to be told that isn't the right amount, it will cost $77. I told him I would take my car to my regular tech who doesn't cost that much. He said, "What, he does it for free?" I don't appreciate sarcasm from service professionals and for $16, he lost a customer as well as future business referrals. The right way to have handled the experience, would have been to say "I'm sorry, I failed to provide you a correct quote to begin with when you initially scheduled the appointment. I will honor the quote this time, but please know in the future, $77 is our price." If you want customers, be honest and you will earn trust. read more
