Sweet treat, quick to grab, not too sweet with great flavor, nice and cold. Wide variety of options but the pies are for sure the star of the show. The chocolate haupia cream pie was a perfect addition to our trip

Coconut Haupia Cake

Yes you are missing out the Coconut Haupia Cake. It is so delicious and you have to try it. It's not too sweet and the coconut flavor is delicious ! We got lucky to get some around lunch time. Be sure to show up earlier before they sell out. Parking is plenty usually and there is a patio outside with benches / tables.

Ted's Bakery was a quick stop along the North Shore drive and 100% worth it. We grabbed pies to go and got the lilikoi cheese pie and the chocolate haupia cream pie. Both were delicious and not too sweet, which I really appreciated. The crust was dense and held everything together well, and the cream fillings were light, fluffy, and refreshing without feeling heavy. Perfect treat to bring along for the drive. I'd definitely come back to try the strawberry guava next time.

Spicy Garlic Shrimp, Hawaiian BBQ Chicken, Mahi Mahi

A casual, outdoor Hawaiian restaurant with lots of different lunch/plate options. Lots of birds and chickens flying around and walking at your feet waiting for crumbs. Each plate comes with 2 scoops of rice and a scoop of mac salad and even a slice of pie that they let you pick out of the fridge. We ordered two plates and they let us pick out 3 slices of pie! We got strawberry guava (light and refreshing), macadamia nut (very flavorful and rich), and chocolate dream cake (my favorite. rich, chocolatey, with a very light and fluffy cake texture) spicy garlic shrimp: 9.6/10. SO GOOD! better than those shrimp trucks. mahi mahi: 9.2/10. Surprisingly really yummy. Soft and flavorful. Has some sort of egg coating. bbq chicken: 7.5/10. Typical bbq chicken!

We passed Ted's Bakery on the North Shore and did a U-turn. Had to go. A cute little place with a tent outside the entrance, busy with people. This little bakery is known for its pies, We picked our slices to go, the chocolate haupia for me and the guava for my daughter, and took them back to her house. OMG divine! Light and not overly sweet. I saw the pies at Foodland Farms ala Moana, so you don'y have to drive to the North Shore. But if you're up that way, do stop. 15

finally got to try ted's bakery and i love the convenience of their grab and go slices and whole pies! my favorite was honestly their strawberry guava cream pie, which you'd expect to be really sweet and artificial tasting but it was pleasantly light and not too sweet. all of their pies were truly delicious, light, and reasonably priced! service was just okay, but it is a more quick/grab and go establishment so service doesn't necessarily need to be the best.

Loco moco
Katie K.

My husband had the macadamia nut pancake, which was great except for the crunchy egg shell (several parts of the pancake). I ordered the loco moco with sunny side eggs, the patties were over cooked and hard, the eggs were over medium and not runny at all, there was not enough brown gravy, and the Mac salad was mediocre.

Visit 09/2025 Literally drove across Oahu to try out Ted's. My wife had seen a foodie rave about Ted's Chocolate Haupia pie. So into the rental car we go! It's ofc a scenic drive and interesting to see the lay of the land change along the route. Not too hard to find. A sweet Filipino lady welcomed us in and patiently allowed us to peruse the cake displays and menu. They have hearty looking breakfast and lunch menus but we had already fueled up at the hotel brunch. We got the Chocolate Haupia, Macadameia Nut,and a Chantilly Cake slice along with an iced vanilla latte for me. All were really tasty and the Chantilly cake was surprisingly light and refreshing versus super sweet. It's a pretty casual side of the road type place. Nothing fancy. Picnic tables in shaded area. Restroom situation is a bit messy.

This cute little shop has all the yummy bakery treats you could want. They have breakfast options and also some really good pies to go. You can buy them by the slice or get a whole pie as well. If you're driving by, it's definitely a spot worth stopping at.

Chocolate haupia pie ($6)

Ted's Bakery is located along Kamehameha Highway on Oahu's North Shore. They have been offering a variety of pies, cakes, and plate lunches since 1996. Their most popular dishes are garlic shrimp, loco moco, and the fried rice special. Their most popular desserts are the chocolate-haupia pie and the pineapple macadamia nut cheesecake. We ordered the chocolate haupia slice ($6) which was light and chocolate-y with a hint of haupia. We also had the classic chocolate slice which was also good. Because it's right across the street from Sunset Beach Park it's a popular place to go if you're in the area to check out the sunset. It's a great idea to grab a slice and watch the beautiful Hawaii sunset.

The pies here are amazing! Creamy, but light... I got the haupia chocolate and the light coconut flavor was super subtle and delicious. The chocolate flavor was complex and slightly bitter. What I love about their pies is that it isn't too sweet! The food wasn't the greatest. My Portuguese sausage and egg sandwich was melted with a slice of Kraft cheese, which ruined the dish in my opinion. Teds bakery is still a staple and I definitely want to return !

Famous stop for infamous our, especially the chocolate. Don't come to the area and miss the service of this quaint roadside bakery that has historic roots in the area.

Egg and Cheese Sandwich
Sean M.

Not bad. We didn't have an issue with the staff as so many seem to have had. I am not sure of the wait time, but we were on vacation and relaxing so not really paying attention to the clock. It wasn't heinous. I had the egg and cheese sandwich with some fries. The egg was a little overcooked in my opinion, but the bun was really tasty. I liked the fries. Maria had garlic shrimp and liked it - she also liked the fries. We both had a slice of pie - she Chocolate Macadamia Nut Cream (recommended by a friend) and I Peach Bavarian Cream. She loved hers and killed it even before our main meal arrived. Mine was fine - but since I had never had anything like that, the novelty was good. It was really windy on the patio (the one across the parking lot closer to the restrooms seemed a lot more pleasant as it had walls and plants as a windbreak) and the birds were out of control trying to steal our food. Felt like Tippi Hedren in Hitchcock's "The Birds". I liked how they had "compostable" tableware - but I saw only one large trash can, so I guess those things are going straight to the landfill! I think the problem (and thus many of the negative reviews) is that somehow this place went viral and now people expect "WOW". It really is a fine stop along the Kamehameha Highway, but the virality is incomprehensible to me.

Ask the Community - Ted's Bakery

Are the garlic shrimps shell peeled off?

The last time I've had it, 2 years ago, it was not but, so much better than the shrimp trucks.

Are any desserts vegan?

No, sorry. Not that I know of

What time do they start serving lunch?

Do popular menu items run out later in the day (around dinner time/5pm)? I want to try the garlic shrimp but don't want to miss out!

H! We've been living here for the past 6 months and they always have popular menu items later in the day/evening. The only options that I see run out are the baked goods (donuts/danishes)

Do you ship to the mainland? And how many days in advance would I need to place an order?

They do not ship to the mainland. They have even stopped shipping pies to stores so you can only get them at the bakery on the North Shore now.

Does Ted's have a public restroom?

Yes

If you order online can you walk right in to pick up or do you need to wait in the outside line to get in?

You can walk right in. The line outside is for those who need to place an order.

Is there outdoor seating available at this time?

Yes! There are plenty of tables across the parking lot for you to enjoy your food. There are also bathrooms open.

Curious if they're open again, even just for take out?

According to their website they reopened on February 5th. :)

Does Ted's ship pies for residential orders to the mainland (California)? Or are there any stores that sell the pies in California?

I don't believe they do. I would be the first one to order one if they did. Best haupia chocolate pie ever!

Still closed for covid or open for takeout?

Yes as of this past Saturday!

If I came at 10:30, could I order breakfast and lunch? My son would choose breakfast for all three meals of the day, but I want to try the spicy garlic sheimp!

Yes and the garlic shrimp is best on island

Are any of the items on the menu gluten free?

Plenty of gluten-free menu items. Nine salad options. Plenty of meat dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Bakery is old school. No gluten-free pastry options when I visited.

Is breakfast available all day?

5/26/19 : Breakfast is NOT served all day and you CANNOT buy plate lunches until 10:30. I found out the hard way...

Open on Christmas Day?

No, they are not.

I came in a few times before and just never committed to getting anything but since today was so cold and I needed caffeine I braved the line and decided to give it a chance. Honestly if it wasn't so cold I would have left. Because the cashier was talking to a customer for several minutes about other people and clothing before taking her order. I guess if it was just me and a couple others maybe it wouldnt be so bad but there was 7 people behind me and the cashier didnt seem to care. I mean the customer seemed to be initiating the conversation and did most of the talking and so I can understand the cashier just being polite. But it seems like this lady comes in often but seriously it leaves a bad impression on others. I was ready to give this place 2 or 3 stars but then I tried the match which made the experience 3.5. But since its a small business I rounded up instead of down. It is a cute little shop but not alot of seating and not alot of parking. The pastries looked good but we're ro pricy for me. A muffin for 6.50 is just a bit to much. But again if you like matcha I highly recommend checking this place out

I have been to an Island Vintage Coffee before, but not this location. The shop here is located in the Haleiwa Store Lots and is quite large. With that space, there is a lot of seating as well as numerous stands of merchandise and coffee for sale. For my coffee on this afternoon, I ended up going with an iced Island Latte, which is a latte with macadamia nut and a hint of coconut. It only took a couple of minutes before my coffee was ready, and my dad and I headed back to the car to try it. My coffee tasted good as the coffee flavor itself was bold and very noticeable. I could also taste the macadamia nut, which gave the coffee a slightly nutty flavor. Last but not least was the coconut, which they said it had a hint of, and they were not wrong. Overall, it was a good coffee and it hit the spot for the afternoon pick me up I was going for. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. My coffee here was pretty good and I would totally be up for trying their Hawaiian Honey Latte, which I almost ordered today.
