So many people have been claiming this is the best banana bread in the world, and I might just have to agree with that statement. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Their stand is tucked on the side of the street and there is super cute merch like bags, shirts, and stickers for purchase.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They had a few options of bread to choose from including their original, chocolate chip, and of course I went back a second time and they had their mochi choco chip for sale that day. Okay this place... THIS PLACE... A MUST!!!!! I've tried banana bread from every spot I can get my hands on. From the side of the roads to even at different shops, I've been to almost every island and I must say Makua Banana Bread is the freaking best!! We tried all 3 flavors, the original, mochi, and chocolate and they were all so ono!!! I even bought some for my family and even brought my own for home and stored them in the freezer. Made a quick stop at this place to try their infamous banana bread before heading off to the beach in North Shore! Parking is a bit tough. There's a parking lot across the street that you can park at that has a few spots. When we arrived, they had 3 options: regular, chocolate chip, or mochi. We asked the lady that was at the front which she recommended and she said the mochi one. I've never had mochi banana bread so my husband and I wanted to give it a try (we were fans of mochi anyways). The mochi banana bread was a $1 extra ($14) for a loaf vs the usual $13 (regular or choc chip). We were def huge fans of it! The texture was a perfect mochi texture and the banana flavor complimented it so well. Since it was a thicker texture, it took us a bit longer to finish than the regular banana bread. I will def be back! I want to try their chocolate banana bread :) read more

I made a pit stop here while in the North Shore since I saw such high ratings on Yelp. They essentially have two menu items. Banana bread original or banana bread with chocolate chip. I ordered the banana bread original as I've never really been a huge fan of chocolate chips in my banana bread. We left the north shore and while I was opening up the banana bread, I realized that there were chocolate chips in my order. I decided to go back, but it was such an inconvenience that the wrong one was given to me. Nevertheless, I was able to finally get the banana bread I wanted in my hands. Once we got back to the hotel, I tried the bread and it was really delicious and moist! I believe the banana bread cost $13. As far as ambiance, it's a small stand that could easily be missed while driving on this road, so pay attention to the gps! :) read more

Makua banana bread is worth the hype. Such MOIST bread and so fresh! Believe the Instagram and Tik tok ads. Stop by if you can, and they also do shipping! The classic is amazing. Easily the best banana bread I have ever tasted and I have made many a banana bread before. It's so delicately moist, we gobbled it right up. We got the original and the chocolate chip, both were equally as delicious. The chocolate chip was more freshly baked so it was still nice and warm. Doesn't lose its moistness when you reheat it the next day. Would make a trip back up to north shore just for this. read more

Delicious loaf of banana bread I had in Hawaii. We got their mochi bb and chocolate chip bb and loved them both. The cc bb was my fav although the lady at the counter did mention their mochi bb is more popular and sells out quickly. I had their banana bread through my friend a couple years ago and I loved it. I finally came to Hawaii and visited the store in person. Unfortunately they were all sold out. I posted my disappointed picture on my social media. Right away they responded to me they brought extra for the customers. I was excited to go back to get them. Not only the cashier Jillian excited to see me, she wrote the cutest card, and gave me a free bread as well. This business is successful not only because of the quality of the products but also this caring customer service. They always make sure all the costumers are happy and have good experiences. If you're in North Shore, you have to stop by Makua Banana Bread!!! The banana bread is incredibly soft, moist, and full of flavor. My favorite was the chocolate banana bread, but the original and mochi were also so delicious. I did want to share a couple of suggestions for the owner/manager because I'd love to see this place continue to improve. Lastly, please can you add some umbrellas above your wooden tables outside. It's way too hot, and the covered area is always full/loud. Would really love some umbrellas over the wooden tables. Coffee consistency: I've ordered the Cardi B around 20 times over the past four months. Less than half the time it's great, but more than half it has been disappointingly cold or poorly made. I understand that different baristas have different techniques, but the inconsistency is always noticeable. In my experience, about 15 out of 20 times the coffee drink has been cold because the milk is not being steamed and instead cold milk is being poured directly into the coffee. The amount of cardamom and sweetness/honey always varies too. Since the drink itself has such a great recipe, I'd really love to see more consistency in preparation--this could be improved through retraining baristas, reinforcing a gold standardized recipe, proper milk steaming technique, temperature guidelines, or additional barista training. Also, I've never had the same barista or cashier in all the times I visited. As a local regular, I do wish I could have a regular solid barista. Consider the best practice of scheduling people with consistent schedules weekly so people can develop loyalty and relationship with your cafe. Bagelweanies: These are SO delicious, but they are also way too salty. The large sea salt crystals on top look beautiful, but there is so much salt that it overwhelms the flavor and health nutrition. I always have to peel or scrap off the top bread to remove all the salt. The weenie itself is already salty enough, in my opinion. I'd strongly suggest reducing or even removing all the sea salt on top. It would make them more enjoyable and a more healthy. They will still taste great, look great, and you reduce the expense of sea salt! I'm sharing this because I genuinely love the food and want to see the café succeed. The pastries and food are clearly made with care, and with a little more consistency in the coffee and less salt on the bagelweanies, I think you'd have an even stronger experience.

Decided to try the blue majik bowl as it's so pretty and different than your standard açaí bowl. Even the small size ($14) was plenty! The base is made of pineapple, banana, and spirulina (giving it its pretty blue hue)... but it mostly tasted like a banana puree so make sure you are good with a strong banana flavor. It tends to overpower everything! The fruits and toppings were really fresh and they also use local raw honey. I should've asked for less honey because the combo of honey and banana made the bowl overwhelmingly sweet for my tastebuds. Still delicious though and next time I'll have to try one of their açaí bowls!

The package also included clear instructions on how to store these goodies, though to be honest, I couldn't imagine needing those instructions - we devoured them so quickly! I had the pleasure of enjoying Makua Banana Bread, and even though it traveled all the way from Hawaii to San Francisco, it tasted absolutely incredible. I can only imagine how amazing it is straight from the stand in Hawaii! The bread is incredibly moist, with the perfect balance of sweetness and banana flavor. What really took it over the top for me were the delicious chocolate chip pieces scattered throughout. Despite the journey from Hawaii to San Francisco, the bread was still fresh and full of flavor. I have tried many loaves of banana bread in my life but Makua Banana Bread? Specifically the chocolate chip one, literally couldn't get enough of it.
