When we went it, it was packed with tourists so it was very loud, the workers just finished a huge rush of customers. Even with all of that going on, they were still very courteous. Two days in a row we stopped here. The first day was at 5:30pm and the lady said she had to close 30 mins early even though the doors were open. Fine, we went somewhere else. Today we went at 5, and even walked the last few blocks due to traffic. Same lady. She said she had to close early, this time nearly an hour. First she said she could make non-espresso drinks, then changed her story to she couldn't take any payments because she locked the drawers because she was in training. Neither excuse explained why she had doors open despite being "closed" and why the sign on the door said they were open until 6. And they are surprisingly kind while not being over cheery. To my chagrin, my chromosomes revealed I'm about 60% Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, and 35% Peet's. So, yeah, I know. 5% indie. That's just sad. But, yeah, whatever, I don't care. Rude Service ‼ I went in to Coffee Bean this morning around 8:30am (sharing this so management can figure out whom I'm talking about.) I ordered an Iced Cookie Butter Latte w/ Oat milk. Paid for it but my mistake...I didn't look at the screen to verify my order. I waited on the side for my drink to which the barista called out a Vanilla Latte. I kindly asked if she had a CB Latte coming up bc that's what I ordered. She was so kind & lmk that they were out of Cookie Butter & that the cashier (whom was an older woman) should've let me know. I told her that I was not informed & that I was ok w/ the Vanilla latte. I asked if she could check that I wasn't charged for a more expensive drink (if that were the case). In that time, the cashier stormed over & told me "you did not order a cookie butter latte. You said vanilla." She was pretty harsh in telling me this. There was absolutely no need for her to tell me I was wrong. I knew I ordered a CB Latte because that's all wanted all morning. She proceeded to tell me I was wrong when I said that I for sure knew what I ordered. Again, no need to put me in place. Just apologize & carry on. I honestly was so kind to even take the Vanilla latte instead of requesting a refund or making a big deal. But once this cashier tried to put me in place, I lost it. That was so unnecessary & extremely rude. I am regional manager for a local business in the Food & Bev industry & I have never taught my employees to "correct" a customer in any wrong doing. She should not have spoken to me in that manner & should have handled the situation with more professionalism & courtesy. I was very disappointed w/ the service I received & will not be returning to that location in the future. In the absolute nicest way possible, please please either train Marissa or move her somewhere else. She has messed up my order the past 3 times I have been there. I am a barista so it's not that I'm incompetent or rude when ordering. Today I asked for a hot earl grey tea with some steamed soy on top. She gave me a hot chai latte with regular milk. Idk how you mess up the only two things I asked for. It had my name on the cup and it even said earl gray soy. I also ordered a bagel with cream cheese. I thought it was known to cut the bagel in half to toast it. She literally gave me an uncut bagel toasted. WHO WOULD WANT A BAGEL THAT IS TOASTED ON JUST THE OUTSIDE HUH??? The other day I asked for an "iced vanilla latte" and she goes did you want to add espresso and I go just the way it comes is fine. An iced latte is literally espresso and milk so yeah it should come with it but I didn't want to have an extra shot just the way it came. She gave me an iced coffee , no vanilla just a plain iced coffee, no latte. Let me just come a little to her defense that she was there alone and it would've been helpful for their to have been another person to help make orders and take them. POOR MANAGEMENT: Coffee bean and tea management team this is for you. Today I went into your Coffee bean and tea at the bottom of Pupukea. at the time I was notified by your employee that you guys were out of milk . although I was confused because you guys were connected to a grocery store I said fine I'll take almond milk. As I proceeded to check out I realize that I had been charge extra for almond milk. I had to ask cause I didn't feel right am I being charged for the almond milk. She replied yes that's why I told you we were out of milk. I said wait a minute I have to pay for the inconvenience of you not having milk now. she said sorry that's what the manager told me to do. When I looked Around the store I began reading signs like the store will be closing at two pm due to lack of employees as well as help wanted signs. since they arrived about 11 years ago I've seen them go through about 150 employees . being an avid coffee drinker I've been to many coffee bean and tea's this one is always extremely slow when I've asked employees making my coffee how come it's taking so long they would often reply I don't know how to make this drink (caramel latte with you at shots) . This location is one I frequent only because it's on the way to Romy's. I'm a creature of habit, and my ritual before shrimp is CBTL. This one isn't my fave but I will still always choose coffee bean over the other coffee chain. Anything North Shore and beyond I do not prefer only because everything is way too lax on this side of the island. Customer service, punctuality and sometimes quality are all sacrificed for some reason. Is it a way of life? Is it lack of respect for others? Or is it just an understanding that "Hawaiian time" is a thing? Who knows? I don't care for it but what other choice do we have? The self serve station is always a complete mess, this time it was a bit less than normal. At least things ate stocked, sugars, napkins, straws, etc... it's a tiny space right in the front, attached to Foodland. Not really a functioning line system so you just gather wherever I guess. Normally I only see 2 employees at a time, this visit there was just one and another on break or something. But when there's only one employee I guess that leaves that one person to cashier, then make the drinks. Everyone waits longer but again, what can you do? I appreciate that they honor a military discount. There's also a stamp reward card. Lots of breakfast goodies and snacks along with hot, cold, or blended drinks. Prices are pretty high, just like most "gourmet" coffee to-go. Lots of parking available as they have a private lot for Foodland customers. Same great taste. Awesome customer service. Always a bonus. SUPER fast. I think it came out the SAME minute I ordered it! NOT SO MUCH: It's in Foodland. I'm not a fan of it being in grocery stores, but some people think it's convenient. Actually it was pretty convenient. But still. I would like a peaceful atmosphere. And the hustle and bust of grocery customers doesn't cut it. The ambience and everything..... ehhh.. no. Way to close to Foodland. Also too small. I think inside only has the counters and bar stools. Not a lot of room outside either. Four stars because I AM A FAN! Even with the bad some people still may see it as good. For me it was an easy in and out. Mixed review but mostly negative. Person taking order was nice & friendly. Person giving out drink was totally opposite. Yelled out drink (no name) with someone else's order. I was like 6 ft away so wasn't sure if it was mine. Waited a few seconds then approached area to see if drink was mine. No one there to verify if it was my drink. Then she comes around corner of counter stating drink again and pointing to mutiple drinks. I was trying something new, so I didn't know which drink was mine. I have never been happy with the baked selections at any Coffee Bean and Tea before, but my problem at this location is choosing which baked items to choose. Please understand that I am NOT interested in sugary snack treats, but more into healthy selections with different and creative recipes. HATS OFF to the bakery chef and to the franchise management for the vision and the guts to recognize that they can differentiate themselves based on such wise choices. This place has a monopoly. Being the only chain coffee store on the North Shore, this Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf is usually busy the whole day. It's located in the Foodland grocery store, with a small inside counter and some seating outdoors. Really more just a take-away hole-in-the-wall. Service was quick and friendly. I ordered a large Iced Tea Lemonade since it was really hot this weekend (~$4). Don't get me wrong, it wasn't bad...but honestly I think the CB&TF taste is not for me. I love vanilla milkshake, but it's not here, so I order ice blended mocha every time. I sometimes drink coffee milkshake at other place, and it's certainly this one is better, so I guess the coffee here will be tasty... actually I can drink only decaf. Really nice staff and great breakfast selection! I get hot tea, and I know that water costs nothing... but I usually just get a medium because that's all I feel like drinking anyways. But I always appreciate when a barista asks if I want a large since it costs the same (not technically, but it should). As usual, I'm tough on chain restaurants and establishments. Consider it a rebellion against corporate America of sorts. It may be due in part to the fact the larger a chain gets, the more quality suffers. That's just a thing I have. Regardless, I recently patronized this coffee shop on what may have very well been their busiest day this year. There were people literally lined up, in droves at 5:15 am for coffee and other assorted breakfast items. Needless to say, despite the throngs of humanity attempting to satisfy their fix for the nectar of the gods, the staff remained plesant and managed to keep everyones unique drinks in order and flowing quickly. I purchased a bagel with cream cheese which was comparable with other chain coffee shop bagels. I returned about noon, albeit for a toatlly different reason and the staff which remained had not broken stride and although I didn't buy, I was very much tempted to.
