There was a long line to order but it went by pretty quickly. We did have to wait a bit for the food though. We ate our chocolate haupia pie and mac nut pie while we waited and they were perfectly balanced with light sweetness, creaminess and a good bite with the crust. The crust had good structure but was still crumbly when you ate it. The corn beef hash was crispy but I wish the egg had a little more salt. They had hot sauce inside but we already left. The loco Moco meat was seasoned well but the gravy could use a little more flavor. The egg was a little overcooked too. There was a lot of seating outside. While driving on the North Shore towards Laie, Ted's was on our right but the entire front was filled with customers eating outside on their patio so we passed on. Heading back towards the Wahiawa direction we saw the parking lot had emptied so we did a U-ey. Hubs went in while I waited in the car with the birthday pup. He quickly came out with a Chocolate Cream pie. Perhaps another choice might be better. We made one stop to get our plate lunches "to go" from Haleiwa. Our first visit to this famous bakery was a hit! We've visited the island several times but never got a chance to visit Ted's until now. The haupia pie is their signature and it is absolutely fire! We actually came by thanksgiving morning and crossed our fingers that they would be open while visiting the North Shore and luckily they were open. My family ordered a few different desserts including the pie, a pastry, and a cup of their macadamia chocolate chip cookies. The pie was the standout but these cookies might be the best I've ever had! They have plenty of outdoor only seating under the canopy and across the parking lot near the bathrooms. While I love the pies at Ted's bakery, the main food has consistently been just average the past 2 times I've tried the place. I really love their chocolate haupia pies and their strawberry guava pies. The pies were creamy, sweet, satisfying, and overall amazing. The pies alone make the trip to Ted's bakery worth the trip. The food however was just average. I ordered the mix plate to try multiple items. I tried the garlic shrimp, the teriyaki beef, and the shoyu chicken. The best of the three was the Garlic shrimp. It had good garlic flavor and the shrimp was fresh. The shoyu chicken was fairly dry and it was smothered in a very thick sauce that didn't do it any favors. The worst was the teri beef. It was thinly sliced but there was so much sauce it detracted from the flavor of the beef. The ambiance has always been the same. The seating is at the front and there are cars that constantly drive by. Sometimes they'll honk while they drive by. It scared me at first but then I learned to ignore it. As for the service, the ladies at the front were nice overall. No issues with their service. This bakery has been recommended by so many of my friends, and I can definitely see why. The pies are delicious and not too sweet. The chocolate Haupia pie is a must order. We also really liked the lilikoi pie as well. I will say I've had really similar pies in LA, so this was not super special for me however, it is still a really great dessert. There was also a seasonal eggnog bread pudding, that was also pretty good. There is lots of outdoor seating, it is very busy all the time, but you should be able to get a table. read more

There's a lot of hype for this place and I think it ultimately set me up for really high expectations. The food is definitely good but I wasn't blown away by it and probably wouldn't feel the need to come back or to insist to travelers that it is a must visit when in Oahu. We got there around 11:45am on a Thursday in mid February and there was a decent amount of parking available, plenty of picnic tables open, and a short but slow moving line. There's an option to order your food online but we just ordered at the register and you'll get a buzzer to notify you when your food is ready. Our food came out in less time than it took us to wait in line. We got the Mixed Plate Two Choice and you can pick two items from a premium or regular selection. There is a $2.60 up charge if you select from the premium options which we did for both our choices - spicy garlic shrimp and bbq short ribs. The base price for this special lunch plate is $24.20 plus $2.60 x 2 (for each premium option) came out to $29.40. The shrimp plates also come with a slice of pie so that does help justify the pricing. Four of these plates with bottled drinks put us at well over $100 for lunch. Our mixed plate with the premium options came with 3 shrimps in a perfect amount of spicy garlic sauce and 2 hefty bbq ribs with a not too sweet teriyaki sauce, as well as a side of sweet chili dipping sauce for the shrimp (which you won't need). Plenty of food but not like a whole lot for $30. The spicy garlic shrimp is peeled and was very good, not over cooked, not spicy at all, and absorbed lots of flavor from the sauce. The bbq ribs were not too fatty, but very chewy. The macaroni salad had a lot of mayo but was tender and well seasoned. I also appreciate that they have a brown rice option instead of white rice with your plate lunch. The pies are prepackaged in a plastic container with several looking like they had been tossed around a bit; it includes a nutrition label which is nice if you have food restrictions. There were only about 5 different sliced pie flavors available out of like 10+ on the menu. I tried the chocolate huapia cream pie which was smooth and creamy and not too sweet and actually not too chocolatey either. The lilikoi cheese pie tasted like a very light and creamy cheesecake with a hint of passion fruit. Overall a very touristy place like most of the food stands and trucks in the area with high prices, but the food is certainly good and worth trying if on vacation. read more

It's a lot of food for the price but the quality felt short for us. They were just ok. We love the bbq short ribs at the Smoking Boar and the Coconut, a little past Haleiwa. The portions are smaller but they are very good. We also tried the chocolate haupia pie which was not good at all in my opinion. I didn't taste any coconut flavor at all. It tasted like a combination of Jello chocolate pudding and cheap whip cream topping. This place may be more for tourists but not a place I would recommend. Where do I even begin with this review. ted's bakery is quite literally the reason why I came back to Hawaii as a San Diego native. This has to be one of the best spots on the island. The food is just remarkable and so flavored if I could have this every single day I would there're garlic shrimp is unmatched and the best shrimp I have had in my entire life along with their galbi! Ted's Bakery in Sunset Beach has a new, renovated look. Also, there is now a tasteful display of all Ted's brand products, including their famous pies. Serving sizes were generous like traditional Hawaiian mixed plate lunches. Without the hungry young man in our party, we probably wouldn't have been able to finish them. Our garlic shrimp was peeled and easy to eat. Seating on the shady patio under big trees across the parking lot from the restaurant was pleasant. The nearby restrooms, while conveniently located, were unfortunately disgusting. They were not kept clean, and there were no towels so everyone left the restrooms shaking wet hands. Speaking of the long wait, the addition of a buzzer system for alerting customers when their order is ready means we could sit down outside rather than having to stand up inside waiting for our order to be called. Basically Ted's Lunches include a free slice of pie or cake. But we bought different flavor extra 3 pies. That's not enough for us, we also bought 3 different flavors of pies! A great place to eat just steps from our rental. You order inside from their very nice selection of items and receive a beeper for when the food is ready. There are picnic tables outside to enjoy the food or you can take it home. We enjoyed our chicken and ribs meals, followed up by a peach cream pie that was amazing. My initial rating for customer service would be a 2 because how do you sell a product and not know what it is, or offer to get someone who can assist the customer. I asked the cashier what the filling in the Lilikoi cheese pie is, and she proceeded to tell me that Lilikoi is passion fruit. I explained that I'm local and know what Lilikoi is, what I'm asking is what the filing in the cheese part of the pie is. She said she doesn't know and told me to ask the person filling the showcase. I then proceeded to ask her and she told me it's Ice cream.. ummmm, Ice cream kept in the refrigerator not freezer? I knew better but I read good reviews about the pie so I decided to try it. In my opinion, the Lilikoi cheese pie isn't as good as the chocolate haupia pie but it had a good Lilikoi flavor; the cheese filing was definitely not ice cream as specified by the employee. The place was also packed and everyone waiting inside the store for their food. Unfortunately, there were no systems in place to have people wait in one area of the store or outside. Everyone was standing in what appeared to be the line to order food or pay for their pie/cakes. I also ordered a cheeseburger with garlic fries, loco moco all rice and shoyu chicken and garlic shrimp mix plate. When the order came out, the cheeseburger with garlic fries and loco moco were correct but they gave me a shoyu chicken plate instead of the shoyu chicken and garlic shrimp mix plate. The garlic fries consisted of thin cut French fries with a garlic sauce on top. The sauce is okay, and the fries were getting soggy due to the sauce. The cheeseburger came with lettuce, tomato, onion, bacon and American cheese. The burger was not seasoned and there was no sauce on the burger; it was really plain and dry. My daughter ordered the loco moco, and it consisted of a hamburger patty with over easy eggs and all rice. The gravy was a standard brown gravy. She said it was delicious! My husband ordered the shoyu chicken with garlic shrimp plate. The shrimp was nice and garlicky but the shoyu chicken didn't have any flavor. The 3 stars is for the chocolate haupia pie because it's absolutely amazing! This pie is absolutely delicious and I'd drive around the island to get it again.
