    catfish plate

The service was good, my food was not. I ordered the catfish plate and the catfish was soft and soggy. Kind of gross like it needed to be cooked more. I also modified the plate to include no salad & extra fries. For going at 7pm with only a few tables sat, I don't know how they managed to get my order wrong... Otherwise, everything else was pleasant.

I was suggested this spot by a local. It turned out to be pretty good. There was a lot of people coming through so it must be very popular. We seated quickly and our server was extremely nice. She got to us right away and our food came fast. My food was delicious and had a lot of flavor. My drink was really good. I'm not sure how much alcohol was in it because I didn't taste any and I definitely didn't get a buzz. It was still very tasty. If I pass through the Harlingen area again I will for sure remember this spot.

Right into it the wait for our food was long about 45 minutes and the only thing that was hot was the Philly Cheesesteak. The ambiance is loud but normal the service quick to sit down but the wait for food and food was not the best . After a 45 min wait for food you'd think everything was hot but no unfortunately had to send plate back to the microwave our waiter didn't know why our food was cold , the Philly was delicious though I recommend that .

The fajita breakfast hippo wasn't bad, kinda bland, used a lot of salsa to help it out Oatmeal Pecan Pancakes were a hit, as were the chorizo (extra) egg scramble it came with. Service was very good. Iced Tea was weak.

Great food and service! Loved this place and quick service. Both Texas toast sandwich and rancheros was great!

My favorite thing is the Lonchesitos Combo. Mmm.... I dream about those flavors and usually will order this when I come in. It's often listen under the "Today's Specials" menu. I also really enjoy their breakfast tacos. They are really good. If you order the breakfast tacos, unless you want something gigantic that you probably can't finish in one sitting, I would recommend the regular or small size breakfast taco. The large is just really really dang large. Still, I could eat half and save the other half for later. Would recommend.

Great wait staff. Food was amazing. Sine we found it last week, we've been back weekly.

Would be better if the waitstaff spoke English but the food is great! The food is always fresh and the portions are good.

Slow service. The food we ordered was so spicy we wondered if the cook was trying to sabotage us. Never returning.

I've been eating here since 1970 when menu was written daily on a small blackboard on the wall and plate lunches were $1.25, drink included. I left the area in '84 but have returned frequently ever since. Las Vegas is always my first stop, and last night was no different, meeting up with ten family members for dinner. Our server, Elizabeth, was superb. When I saw the menu, I was concerned. It was six or eight pages, with dishes I never expected to see here. But I understand why, even though my first thought was, "I hope they haven't messed with the traditional dishes." I've always maintained the cheese enchiladas here are among the three or four finest in the world, if not THE finest. That's what I always order. I also ordered panchos and guacamole. My wife ordered beef enchiladas. The guacamole was very good. The nice thing about LVC is they don't use much (if any) cilantro. This stuff ruins guacamole. Their homemade chips are beyond incredible and so is the salsa. The panchos were terrible. Way too much cheese. Ratios are important. The refried beans and rice were very dry. And finally, the cheese enchiladas. They were not good. There was very little gravy (this is what makes them so good) at all, and the gravy wasn't right. They have changed the recipe. There was also way too much cheese on top. Ratios are important. The medium (soft, medium or crispy taco shell) ground beef taco was perfect. My wife said her enchiladas were also disappointingly dry with bland gravy. I ate the taco and about half the rice, beans and enchiladas. I paid what might be my final tab here, and picked up everyone else's check. 56 years ago, I paid less than two bucks out the door. Last night's tab was over $250 with tip. Times have changed. Unfortunately, so has their food. The women's restroom was repulsive. I won't go into detail about the trash can.

The waiter was very over the top friendly and pushy which made us feel like we were dealing with a used car salesman. When we mentioned we were there for Happy Hour the friendliness then turned to dismissive as he told us we would need to sit at the bar for that. We were sitting at a table next to the bar and the bar was all high tops. Again, NO ONE else was there. I asked if there was any low top seating that would count as sitting at the bar due to having a condition that would make it painful to sit on a barstool. He unapologetically stated "No". I was not going to pay more for my food and drink due to geography, so I stood at the bar. As we looked over the menu the bartender, host, and waiter stood at the end of the bar talking and gossiping. It seemed very unprofessional since we were the only ones there and we could hear their entire conversation. The bartender was very friendly. We ordered the bowl of queso and the bartender asked if we wanted it loaded and we told her no. We also ordered the bistec and chicken tacos with no pico de gallo. When the queso came out it was a small cup full of what looked like onions, but probably pico de gallo. We told the bartender we ordered the bowl and did not want the pico. She took it back and then gave us another small bowl and it was topped with meat. She could tell we were not happy and asked if everything was okay, so we explained we had ordered the bowl, not cup and just wanted plain queso, but at this point we told her it was fine. When the tacos arrived the bistec were covered in raw onions. This was not listed on the menu and not something either of us wanted which is why we said no pico. We sent those back as well but told her we did not want them replaced. We split the chicken tacos and were not impressed so we didn't order anything else.
