It's 9:00pm on a Friday night, and I'm sitting in my living room. My 82-degrees and climbing living room. Tejas Air and Heat has been to my house four times in the past month. At no point have they actually diagnosed or repaired anything - they add coolant and say it is fine. Now, they can't even look at their schedule until Monday, so me and my seven pets get to live without AC for who knows how long. They have lied to my face about return times, told me they've inspected the coil and everything was fine, told me they can't get to the coil because of ducts, and complained about how hard it would be to clean the coil on my house. None of which get my system fixed. I do not recommend them at all. read more

This industry has almost as bad a rep as do mechanics and plumbers, and justifiably so. There are many companies out there who treat their customers as an opportunity to make money. Dennis & Company at Tejas Air & Heat is not one of those companies. A sign of a good company, and a good man, is admitting their error, fixing it quickly, and offering apologies in the verbal form and/or through additional service. Without going into detail, the important thing to know is that I was so impressed with their humble attitude, that I will continue to use them for all future needs. The central air unit in my efficiency condo was raining down water where it was installed in the ceiling of my bathroom. Having tried all web solutions for the potential problem, I finally gave in and called Tyler at Tejas Air & Cooling, who came highly-recommended to me by a friend and business owner who uses him for both home and store needs. Tyler could not be more enthusiastic or earnest about his job and was more than eager to explain all of the procedures as he tried to isolate and identify the problem. After clearing the debris from the inside and outside units, recharging the coolant, and inspecting the drain lines, he even went so far as to replace a couple missing caps, screws, and misc parts that were missing since the last time it was serviced (years ago and by whom, I have no idea). I called Tejas at 10am and Tyler was here by 10:30. Two hours later, my place is purring along at a chill 70 degrees, and for under $100. Just in time to cope with the spring humidity and fluctuating temps and sunshine. Thanks Tejas, and a very big thank you to Tyler. He's genuinely one of the good ones and couldn't be a nicer guy. After using another company a couple of times who are fast to arrive, but seemed pricey (and I have a personal connection to this place) I decided to consult yelp. Out of a few top reviewed places I called, Dennis was the only one who answered his phone at 5:15pm on Tuesday night. It's 12:30pm Wednesday the next day and he just left my house. His price was literally almost HALF of the other place (I had the same issue with another AC unit in my house a month ago) and he is super friendly, as his his office manager, who kept me posted as to his arrival time. Bottom line (at the top): Great company. Excellent service. Fair prices. Would recommend them to anyone. Will call them again when I need HVAC service. One of our outdoor AC units started squeeling at 3AM. I got up and shut it off at the thermostat. Called around for service the next morning. Several companies said they were too busy. Asked a friend for a recommendation and he said, "Call Tejas." I could tell they were busy (so were all the AC companies due to record heat). They asked if I could wait until the afternoon. I said yes (since my upstairs AC was still working and I was cool). Tony, the repair tech, called me directly a couple of hours later and said he was on his way. Tony looked over my AC unit and told me it needed a new motor. I was shocked. After all, the unit is 28 years old and every other repair man that has seen it has immediately tried to sell me a new unit. I said, "But this unit is old. Can I get away with just fixing the motor?" He said yes and that there was no reason to replace the whole unit when I could just replace the motor. I was impressed! Tony got the parts and fixed my AC. It was back up and running in no time. Then Tony spent some extra time looking over my other AC unit and checking things inside (at no extra charge). All was good and he was on his way. Started desperately looking for AC help this morning using Yelp ratings. The first company I called had no openings until Friday, and hinted that I probably needed a $2200 compressor. The second call got no response. Dennis from Tejas was able to work us in today. That, in itself, was a big deal. Even more impressive was how he showed up when he said he would and diagnosed and fixed 2 different problems within a few minutes while taking customer calls on his bluetooth, as his dispatcher was out today. We have been using Tejas Air and Heat for a few years now. Like others, we have found Dennis and team very friendly, prompt, and very fairly priced. If you're looking for cheap, you're cutting corners and it will cost you in the long run... Also, like others have pointed out, and this is the important bit, they do not replace items that don't need replacing. They don't push unnecessary or overly-expensive upgrades on you. When I last asked Dennis how often we should have him come and check our AC units, he simply said "never. Call me when it stops working." I'm an engineer and will do small repairs myself (fan motors etc) and again, they are most obliging, have given free advice over the phone, and only come out when really needed. First off, I had another company swing by to check on my inoperable AC unit. The cap was busted and so he replaced it. Then, it still didn't work, so he quoted me $1800 to replace the condenser outside or replace the whole unit (inside and outside) for $5000. Dang!!! About an hour later Dennis and Tony from Tejas showed up unexpectedly because their management forgot to inform me that they had booked a time for me. They insisted to take a look at the unit and see if it really did need replacement, so I let these blokes in. They did a THOROUGH inspection, and got it fixed in 15 minutes. My husband and I LOVE Dennis! Dennis is the owner of Tejas Air and Heat...he and Gigi are phenomenal. Dennis is friendly, honest and provides great customer service along with great southern hospitality. My review is really twofold....the first is going to be for the initial install. We first learned about Tejas & Air & Heat from our neighbor. They were replacing their AC unit and were given a very fair price from Dennis. It just so happened that we also needed to replace the AC unit in our rental so we decided to go with Dennis as well. Boy are we glad we did! They did a great job and we are very satisfied. We will be replacing the AC unit in our home soon and will definitely be purchasing from Dennis. The next review is for the service that Dennis has continued to provide to us. We live in a townhome that was built in 1967. There are ten townhomes and they are all connected. The drainage system in these units were poorly designed where we are all connected under the slab and the drain runs from our unit to our neighboring unit and then out to the street. My friends had purchased the unit next to me and they found they had a leak. After much digging (literally) they realized that the leak was actually under the slab and that it was coming from our AC. At some point over the last 40+ years someone had cut the drain pipe...we had no idea. So instead of the condensation from our AC unit draining out to the street it was draining right under their kitchen sink! My dad who happened to be in town doing some renovation work for us suggested to the plumber that he connect the cut drain pipe to the sink drain and have the condensation drain there but the plumber refused. He said it wasn't up to code....HELLO these were built in 1967 - none of it is up to today's code. Their plumber told us that we had only one option and that we would need to run a condensation pump to pump the condensation up and out in order to correct the problem in their unit. Their plumber came into our unit and told us he could do it for $1300 ($350 for the pump and remainder for labor which he stated would take him a full day). When we heard this $ my husband and I thought it was way too expensive. Since our AC unit was old anyway and we had thought about replacing it we wanted to check with Dennis to see if that was something he could correct when he put in the new unit. We called Gigi and told her that we had an emergency situation and she had Dennis out to our place in less than an hour. When Dennis arrived he went over to the other unit and told the plumber the exact same thing my dad had suggested. Dennis stated tot eh plumber that he could correct the problem for both parties by connecting the drain pipe to the sink drain and it would cost about $100. The plumber bawked at this idea of making only $100. So what did Dennis do? HE ROCKED...that's what he did! He turned to my husband and handed him a condensation pump (almost new barely used) and said,"here you go". YES, IT WAS FREE OF CHARGE!! The plumber looked at Dennis and said, "You're just going to give him that pump?" Dennis replied "Yes, this is Texas we help each other out when we can" and walked out!!!! He went back to our unit and told my husband the plumber was a jerk and that he could have simply fixed the problem for everyone for as little as $100 but he just wanted to make money. I unfortunately missed the excitement but was really impressed by Dennis when my husband told me what had happened. HOW AWESOME IS THAT? DENNIS IS THE MAN! So Dennis left us with the pump and my dad ran the drain line and finished the job in less than 20 minutes!!!! What did it cost us? A few bucks for the plastic tubing for the drain pipe! While I am extremely greatful for that generous act, it turned out the pump was having issues - it occasionally would get stuck and it wouldn't drain. So we called Gigi and told her about the problem. Dennis sent us to their wholesale supplier to pick up a new pump and we purchased it at his cost! I have just been so impressed and overly pleased with teh service that Dennis and Gigi and the rest fo the Tejas Air & Heat family have provided us. I could not tell you how happy I ahve been. If you are looking for fast, friendly, fair and honest service do not look any further. I promis you will not be disappointed if you purchase from Dennis! THANKS DENNIS! Turns out it was only clogged drains, which he fixed, then he did a quick AC service. You can't beat the service or the price of these guys; trust me, I've looked around. read more

I love this company for many reasons! I woke up and had water pouring thru my second story ceiling onto a very expensive TV and entertainment unit and brand new hard wood floors that were just installed 3 weeks ago. I called at least 5 of the recommended AC companies on yelp and only one other company responded and told me to turn off the AC until he could get here in 5-6 hours (it's 106 outside) ...that would not work for several reasons. I left word with the other companies and said it was an emergency...... I'm still waiting on call backs, not good! Luckily I called Tejas and spoke to GiGi and explained the urgency. She said she understood and would call the manager Dennis and see what they could do. She called back in 10 minutes and said Dennis was on his way. I finally had someone who was interested in helping me and understood. Dennis found an issue that I had been living with for over 7 years!! I have had other problems off and on with this A/C, and even though I had been signed up with a regular maintenance program with another company, they never corrected this problem. This issue was due to a pipe not being installed correctly during the construction of my house 7 YEARS AGO. Even though we are hitting record heat numbers, Dennis took his time in a hot, third story attic and corrected it. I can't tell you the relief that washed over me after all these years. (I just recently had another company come out and try to tell me it was my coil (chang, ching) and I refused to let them touch it.......had that funny feeling. I am signing up for the regular maintenance plan with Tejas and feel like after all these years with wasted time and money I found the AC Angel's in Dennis and GiGi! We use Tejas for all our air conditioning and heating needs. They respond immediately and fix the problem at a reasonable price. We mostly deal with Tyler as well but they are both great. They clearly know their heating and air conditioning systems extraordinarily well. We have a lake heat exchanger system and a gas systems and they keep them running smoothly and efficiently. When your air conditioner breaks down in Austin, it's almost always an emergency. In our first year of home ownership, ours went down twice. The first time, I thought it was the thermostat, but it was actually a fried computer panel. (It had quite the scorch mark on it.) The second time, it was a part on the A/C unit itself. In both instances, Tejas Air arrived quickly and performed the repairs in a timely fashion ... even though one repair required a part to be fetched from elsewhere. The repair costs were very fair. Still five stars. Our AC has had weird problems since last fall. We called Tejas in October, and Dennis did what he could--as is typical of such things, it never acted up while he was there. He suspected that the computer board needed to be replaced, but GET THIS: he didn't want to do that expensive repair unless he was SURE that was the problem. So he tried a couple of little tweaks and told us to call back and let him know whether those tweaks seemed to be a permanent solution; if so, he would send a bill, and if not, he would come back out. Well, we were gone for most of November and December, and by then AC season was pretty much over. I called to tell him that I still had concerns but that there was probably no way to tell in the dead of winter (and the furnace worked just fine). We agreed to wait to see what AC season brought. At NO TIME did he ever seem concerned about the money; rather, he just said again that if it worked when the time came to give him a call and they'd send the bill. Now that is the way business should be done! Well, a couple of weeks ago, when AC once again became a necessity, it was apparent that something was still wrong, so we gave them a call again. He came out (promptly, I should add) and checked things out, but of course it was running like a top when he was here. He STILL didn't want to try the costly fix without trying one other thing: what he thought might have been a loose thermostat wire. And it was the same arrangement: "If that does the trick, call us and we'll send you a bill; if it doesn't, call us and we'll come out and fix it." Unreal. Unfortunately, we had to opt for the latter of the above two choices. So this afternoon out he came AGAIN, and he decided that yes, it was definitely the computer board. He went out and got one and installed it, and we're up and running. I came home from work and the house was COOL. The bill was about half of what we were expecting. I honestly don't know how he made any money off of us; I doubt that he did. From the get-go, he treated the problem more as a puzzle, an intellectual challenge, than a way to earn money. Another repairman might have actually solved the problem more quickly by simply replacing that computer board right off the bat, but the fact that his first instinct was to forego the more expensive solution in favor of trying less expensive options first makes me want to sing the praises of this company to the rooftops. Our system is really getting up there in age, and we might be doing an add-on soon that will require a more powerful one anyway. Guess who's going to get the call for that install (yes, he does installation too)! read more

Our experience with Tejas Air & Heat was excellent. I was referred by a neighbor who has used them. I called them on a Wednesday morning. They spent a great deal of time asking probing questions over the phone to help determine the problem we were having with our A/C. They did everything they could to help me solve the problem without having to pay them a service charge for coming out. Finally it was determined that they would need to come out and they were out here that next day. By the following day, they had a crew out and the system fixed so we could use the upstairs portion of our home. They were efficient, courteous, neat and trustworthy. Most importantly, 6 months earlier when I had another service company we had been contracted with to do spring cleaning had come out, they said we had a problem with the coil in the a/c. All they offered was to have a salesperson contact me (which never happened) to purchase an entirely new system to the tune of $6000. What Tyler and his gang at Tejas did was explain an intermediary step that would fix our problem and get the system working and for only $1200. This was huge for our family. Their honesty and integrity is not something you see in businesses these days and I can highly recommend them!!! Plus, the service charge was taken off the repair bill! Have nothing but praise for Tejas - started with the phone call to see if they could come look at my ac - had quit will I was out of town over the weekend - called around 8:45 and spoke to Gigi explained what my problem was and that I was at work and needed about a 20 minute warning so I could get back home to let them in. Got a call around 10:30 and was told Bryan would be at my house in 20-30 minutes - drove up and he was waiting on me - ended up being a small problem with the thermostat which was fixed in a few minutes - Bryan spent the time to check out the unit and make sure it was running properly while he was there. I really want to say nice things about this company but I can't. Love Gigi, hubby met Dennis and said he was good but I called Tejas Air & Heat because our 31 year old air conditioner had died. It worked for about 12 hours and then no cool again, which he'd warned us was likely. At that point I had come to terms that I was going to have to get a new compressor. I called them out again but after a few days without a call back, I moved on to another company. Later I found out he'd been by to work on it without letting us know. I had called at about 3pm on Saturday, simply asking them to return my call on Monday, but he was at my home by 6pm that very Saturday, and when the AC was too frozen up for him to service it completely, he came back out on Sunday to finish up!
