This is a great feast of meats. highlights are the pastrami anything. That delicious brisket and the Chile relleno stuffed sausage (like nachos in each bite). Love the pinto beans. I guess it was 4:45pm and the online hours said they would be open there were staff members in uniform on the porch that said they were closed and to go to some sort of "deli" that had all of their menu items that you could get to go.....??? When we arrive there was a long line. One of the employees came to ask us if we knew what we wanted and we answered yes as this has been my family's favorite place to get baked potatoes. Little did we know they only had enough to accommodate half our group. We took all of the available potatoes and order something else for the rest of the group since we had already waited for 30 minutes. After we ordered someone from the kitchen came and told us they actually had one less potato. It would've been nice if the employe told us they were running low on potatoes and we wouldn't had wasted 30 minutes in line. WOW! I tried this place once before for lunch and the brisket was delicious! I like carrots but had never had (or even heard of) a carrot souffle...a MUST TRY! It is absolutely delicious! Today's adventure was just for me...I specifically set out to try their Burnt Ends. I arrived around 9:45 in the morning, picked up a Golden Ticket and then headed a few blocks away because I was Craving Kernels. I returned at 11 and was warmly greeted, promptly served and in no time I was seated with my burnt ends sitting in front of me. Oh my goodness they are so tasty! The flavor and smoke are perfect here. The meats aren't too salty or too sweet. The bbq sauce and toppings are a perfect compliment if you need something extra. This is not your father's bbq joint. There is nothing traditional about the 'meat' side of their offerings. The brisket looks great but is light on flavor. It is not bad, but goes better with their other offerings than solo. The chocolate however, is what you expect. There are a wide range of flavors and it all looks great. These too, aren't the best truffles but serviceable. If you want a quaint place that looks like it should be filled with hipsters and featured on Discovery+, this is your stop. My husband & I were excited to visit this establishment after reading the reviews! Upon entry, it was pure chaos with little to no assistance with ordering from staff. Finally, made it to the counter to order and the young gal working the register and taking orders was not helpful, had an attitude, and certainly lacked a customer service skillset. Our order came with no plates and no utensils. Huh? You were on your own to wander around the table crowded establishment and locate the pickles & onions and utensils to serve yourself. The served pastrami was wet, fatty, smokey and overpriced with little to no pastrami flavor. Yuk! For one-half pound (3 slices) of pastrami the cost was $19.00. It certainly did not taste like jewish deli pastrami that you would purchase in the NE part of the US. We also purchased one baked potato to split that was $8 with tax. The served potato was overcooked, extremely dry, filled with an abundance of shredded cheese, a smidge of sour cream, and dripping in BBQ sauce. The iced tea dispenser was almost empty for refills and the beverage area appeared unclean. The music was loud and geared toward millennials. The bathrooms appeared unkept with broken soap dispensers. We did not visit the chocolates showcased in the front lobby due to the overall disappointment with the overpriced meal and lack of customer service during our visit. read more

While standing in line for our BBQ, a vet from Montana told me he was visiting the area, and planned his entire trip around being able to dine twice at Tejas Chocolate Craftory and BBQ. Thursday is pastrami day, and how lucky was this Austin native to land on such a special day. Thank you for your service, and by the way you are a smart man to plan your trip around this BBQ. My order was a pastrami Rueben, a slice of brisket, one rib, and a corn soufflé side. When I picked up the BBQ tray my eyes thought they were looking at Rembrandt. The rye bread for the Rueben had a wonderful swirl, the brisket and ribs were perfect, and the sides of pickled onions, and homemade pickles put the finishing touches on this masterpiece. The pastrami sandwich was divine, not too salty and very tender. My brisket and ribs passed the test of I cant wait to come back and get some more. That brisket tenderness was perfectly executed, and the rib was sweet, moist, and not mushy. The corn soufflé was wonderful but I could not finish after eating everything else on my plate. I didn't think this place was going to blow me away, and wow was I wrong. The BEST bbq in town and I'm not lying! If there's a line, wait on it. I promise you won't be disappointed. I got the loaded baked potato with brisket and the brisket was just right. My niece got the blue cheese sandwich and she's a huge foodie and she rated it the top place she's eaten since she came to visit. All the sides we munched on were great. There was not one item that we did not like. The chocolate truffles were delish! My favorite was the old fashion whiskey. It had a hint of an orange taste to it. Chicken may have been the best I've ever had. Their BBQ sauce is excellent. Pork ribs were good. Lean brisket was good, but I probably should have ordered the fatty brisket. Medium sausage was ok. And for dessert... nutty buddy chocolate was fantastic, mint was good, bananas foster was good, and I can't remember the name of the other chocolate we got, but it was very good.
