The burgers at Tejas are so good and tasty, and they are not oversized or greasy. I live the fresh topping and the tender beef. The seasoned fries pair well with the burgers, and the spicy ketchup is perfect. I've also had the breakfast tacos and the Chorizo taco is by far my favorite, with the spicy sausage offset by the sweet grilled onions. Heard about this place and aims of the newer places on Bishop. Wife and I came here during a Saturday morning. Tried all three breakfast tacos and the brisket taco. All four were great options. No skimping on the main ingredients and the garnishments were perfect. They have homemade salsa options that were excellent. Lunch and dinner tacos look tasty, the wife and I will definitely be back. I really hate to have to write this because 1. I am not a person who writes reviews and 2. I have been to Tejas numerous times and have had a great time. However, yesterday was an awful experience. I placed a reservation in through Resy on Monday, the reservation only allowed me to place 6 people, so in the notes I added that I actually needed the reservation to be for 8 people. I figured I would call on Wednesday, when the restaurant reopened for the week to confirm my message was received. Didnt have to, I received a message via Resy that my reservation was confirmed for 8. When my party started to arrive they hostess stated "oh yes the reservation for 8" however where we were being sat was not a large enough table for 8 people. I tried to speak to the hostess about a better table option and she would not change our seats. Manager came over and acknowledge that they should not have allowed me a reservation for 8 people and that they had made a mistake, but still no larger table. She gave me the option of seating outside, in 100 degree weather, but that was it. There was no apology, there was no "let me see what we can do" and move some tables around (like many other managers at other restaurants do) there was no service recovery efforts what so ever. Manager and hostess staff lacked hospitality skills and taking accountability for the mistake that had taken place. As my full party arrived we decided to stay and sit outside. We had a party of 8 and there was no way we would be seated at another Bishop Arts restaurant without a reservation. So we tried to make the best of it. Not once did the manager come out and check on us. Waitress was pleasant but was definitely over sat. We had to go find her numerous times inside to come outside and get something we needed. Food and drinks were good, as expected. However when the checks came, gratuity was already added (expected), but what was definitely the icing on the cake was the 20% for gratuity. I completely understand the policy of adding gratuity to a large party's check, but 20%? It definitely felt like a slap in my face after the whole reservation mistake. I dont know who owns this place but you definitely need to take a look at your staffing model. Your manager lacks hospitality skills, you have 4 hostess at a time for the size of the restaurant, who presented no skills on how to manage table seating arrangements, service recovery and on the spot problem resolution (all key skills to the service industry). And lastly your wait staff per shift is not enough. It was apparent yesterday that the waitress we had, did not have a section, but was waiting tables all over the restaurant. It's my third time coming, today we were the only ones here. It was awkwardly silent, someone forgot to turn on the music. We order our tacos and start to make a cup of coffee. This is where is went south. The creamer was spoiled and coagulated. I figure it's just one of the creamers (which weren't on ice), so I pour it out and make a second cup but nope all the creamers are spoiled. I ask the sweet little hostess if there are fresh refrigerated creamers in the back she said no, she could give me horchata if I wanted. Nooooo. I was truly bummed out NOT TO HAVE COFFEE WITH MY BREAKFAST TACOS. So I crossed the street and bought coffee at Tribal All Day Cafe. read more

The worst customer service I ever experienced. I had a Groupon that the manager said they no longer honored. I explained to him that I had bought the Groupon a couple months ago and that it hasn't expired yet. I also pulled up the reviews from Groupon to show that other customers have been able to use the Groupon. He refused and told me that the Groupon is worth $100 at the restaurant which is more than what I paid. So I pulled up the menu with him and calculated everything. Two margs ($12 each), guacamole ($10), six tacos ($6 each). That totals $70...far below his $100 statement. He then changed his story and told me that I was wrong and that the Groupon is for six tacos a person which would put the value over $100. Who eats six tacos in one setting?! Caught in his web of fallacies, he told me that I need to contact Groupon and he would not honor it. I walked out and took my appetite down the street. read more

We have been watching them build the building and are excited there is a Tej/mex taco shop. The queso was great and the brisket taco and veggie taco were delicious. They brought 4 different salsas in squirt bottles to use, all were very tasty. Watch out- the yellow one is super hot- that is a good thing. All 4 sauces were different and delicious. We also enjoy a horchata/cold brew drink- excellent. Horchata is rice and almonds (soaked over night and blended then strained) drink that has cinnamon in it and sprinkled on top. A perfect pairing with cold brew coffee. You should try this place as it is a nice place to eat and the staff are very friendly. read more

All the wait staff seem to be committed to making sure the dining experience is one of the best not only in the Bishop Arts District, but the entire city of Dallas. I don't get the hype. I was super excited to try this place, but my food was pretty inedible. I have only had about three instances in my life where the food I ordered was so gross that I couldn't finish it. I ordered 2 tacos. One was complete mush and tasted like baby food in a taco. I could only tolerate about two bites. The next one was the al pastor which was coated in a thick mole-like sauce. Not traditional al pastor, but that would've been OK if the sauce had been good, but it was flavorless. The queso, which I've also heard a lot of great things about, was super runny and tasted like Tostitos queso with water added. Overall, this was a pricey meal that left me very hungry. read more

First time visiting Tejas with a group of out of town friends. We didn't have a reservation but the hostess made us feel welcomed and quoted us a longer wait time but was able to sit us earlier. I had strong expectations but sadly disappointed. This is clearly one of those restaurants that orders mass produced food and tries to make it taste good with flavor. Doesn't work. The mini chicken taco appetizer was not good at all. The margaritas not any better. I would be giving a one star but I must say the veggie and shrimp tacos were pretty good. We're sitting here right now and have only gotten one dish with no tortillas that come with it as well as getting our starters after the one dish with only one of the two starters we ordered and it wasn't even the correct order. Below average food, horrible drinks, and sleezy servers. They utilize an iPad for checkout and take advantage of large groups through this. When it came time to pay we were unable to review the check because it's digital, and were shown a screen with a suggested tip amount (normal) - but the server never stated that gratuity had already been included on our checks and proceeded to collect 40%+ from 7 people. I love what they have going on at this restaurant!! The food is flavorful (even the chips and salsa!), and the margaritas are definitely a must-try! I had the joy of having a frozen spicy watermelon margarita (seasonal), and I believe it's one the best drinks in the Dallas area. Real watermelon juice (not that artificial stuff), local products, you can't go wrong. The frozen Paloma is great too!
