It had been several decades since my last visit to Mia's Tex-Mex, and since my wife and I were in the area, we decided to stop in. Wow--things have definitely changed! I remember when they were located further down Lemmon Avenue in a much smaller space. They've since moved uptown, and the new digs are beautiful and very inviting. After we were seated, our server, Ruben, greeted us with a warm smile. We were especially excited since we arrived just in time to catch their lunch specials--and there are plenty of great ones to choose from. We started with a couple of frozen margaritas and a cup of queso while browsing the menu. The margaritas were spot-on--not wimpy at all, with just the right kick. And the queso? Absolutely outstanding--some of the best we've had in a long time. The salsa was excellent as well. My wife chose the lunch-sized chicken quesadillas, while I went with the #7 lunch special, which included a cheese taco, a chicken enchilada, and a beef enchilada topped with chili con carne. Our meals arrived after a short wait, and everything exceeded expectations. My wife was thrilled with the portion size--it was just right--and she was all smiles after her first bite. The chicken fajita meat was tender, flavorful, and perfectly marinated. My lunch special hit the spot and delivered exactly what I was craving. We had a fantastic experience at Mia's Tex-Mex. Best camarones a la diabla I have ever had. Plus, amazingly well cooked and seasoned white rice and vegetables - which would normally be a throwaway anywhere else. AND, the server heated up fresh tortillas for me when I asked him for some on the side. SO. Good. White queso was perfect. Brisket tacos were fantastic; I didn't get them this recent visit but I've had them numerous times when I took out-of-towners here. Chips and salsa are also top notch. This joint is quintessential Tex-Mex. Kitsch on the walls and a menu full of stuff that includes the same 3-4 ingredients. Cold, spicy salsa. Even colder bottled beer. The service here was great on my visit. The atmosphere, albeit a little crowded, was comfy. As I do with my first visit at any Tex-Mex joint, I order the combo plate. I was very pleased with it here. The taco was crunchy with nicely seasoned (non-greasy) ground beef and lettuce and cheese served on the side (I told them no tomatoes). The tamale had a wonderful brisket-like filling, although there was a little too much masa for me. The cheese enchilada was filled with actual cheese, which is a good (if not rare) thing these days. The chili con carne topping was wonderful, as was the rice -- which is among the most perfectly cooked that I have ever experienced in a Tex-Mex joint. The refried beans were run-of-the mill. I must say that the enchilada tortillas are firmer than most. Not necessarily bad, but they definitely don't par-fry these things before rolling. I tend to judge Tex-Mex joints by their salsa. If it's served warm, I take points off the board. This stuff is served ice-cold and has a wonderful bite. Bottom line: If I lived here, I'd be a regular. Excellent Tex-Mex. read more

I came to Texas looking for Tex-Mex and Mia's did not disappoint. If you don't get anything else here you have got to try their brisket tacos! The service was excellent, he was very friendly and gave great recommendations in the menu. The salsa was home made and I wish I could've taken a jar home with me! I had one of the dinner specials and the chicken enchilada was really good! I also recommend the frozen mango margarita with tajin rim. Overall a great dining experience! read more

I enjoyed my time at Mia's. The staff were very friendly starting at the valet and containing with our host and waitress. The ambiance inside is reminiscent of many classical tex-mex restaurants. We started off with a margarita along with queso and the complimentary chips and salsa. We then split the combo fajitas. Everything we had was good but I don't remember any of it being stand out. I appreciated the quick service, seating ability, and solid food at a reasonable price. The place is very casual and homey. Feels like you're in the comfort of your family's house. Cute signs all over the place paying homage to the loved ones that the restaurant is dedicated to. It's tasty! I was busy eating so I didn't get a lot of pictures. You walk in and it's first come first serve. We had a party of 7 and waited about 20 minutes the place was hopping. We were sat and ordered Margaritas (Duh!) The frozen had some floater and was tasty and yummy. We enjoyed. We ordered guacamole, it was creamy, fresh, and tasty. They give you chips and salsa which the group thought was a little spicy so like an above medium. I ordered fish tacos that came with veggies and rice and beans. I was told this is where you go to get the best brisket tacos in DFW and I have to say, Mia's did not disappoint. One warning is they do not have regular parking only valet parking. We have been here a few times. We don't come to Dallas often but when we do we make it a point to come here. It's the unicorn of Mexican food restaurants! You know when you take a bite of some really amazing food and it's so good that your eyes just roll back into your head like you just experienced some kind of sensation that you can't describe? Got to the restaurant at 4:50pm. Not one car in parking lot. The last time I was forced to valet I got a door ding that cost hundreds to repair. I asked the valet attendant it I could park my own car. Told him I would still tip/pay...he refused to let me. YOU SHOULD NOT BE FORCED TO VALET...especially at a restaurant like Mia's. Saturday evening, even with reservations we waited for 1 1/5 to be seated. That's was kinda annoying. Tight quarters with no where to wait. We had to stand the whole time with a baby. The service made up for it though....i guess The food came out hot and only 20 mins or so wait time. I grew up eating Chi-Chi's in New Mexico, and was so happy when my server asked if I wanted a sopapilla for dessert after eating an early dinner here. What a great way to end a delicious Tex-Mex meal! Chips, salsa and fresh guacamole where satisfying. The menu had a lot of combo choices, so I decided based on my waiter's favorite and was very pleased. Only ding against the experience was when I pulled into the empty parking lot and a guy started putting cones in the spaces to prepare for valet parking. He told me he would park my car for a tip. I am updating my experience. I go here atleast once a month and generally have no issues. One time they gave me the wrong ticket, but fixed it. The other day however was not a good experience. My meal was 21.60 and I left a cash tip on table. A few days later I noticed I was charged almost 36.00. The waitress had put an almost 15.00 tip onto my card trying to be sneaky. In this area there are some wealthier people being by Highland Park and so she may had been getting away with it, but I check my statements. I usually have the same waiter so next time I'll ask for him and if I see the waitress I'll definitely let her know it's not ok to steal from people. Our waiter was attentive and provided recommendations on his faves from the menu. The food is brought out quickly so it makes for a good choice if you're on lunch and need to return to work timely. For drinks, I ordered a frozen strawberry margarita (sugar rim) and the drink was delicious! The guacamole dip was fresh and chips/salsa very good. I had a mango margarita, it was really really good ! Our server was lovely, he recommended some things as it was the first time we were there. I can't give this place a higher review because even tho food is not bad, it is SO hot in there, we were sitting right in front of the AC and you couldn't feel it, the fans were running but it felt like air was not circulating.
