Came here for a work lunch and despite it being pretty packed we were seated on the upper level very quickly. The service was really quick and flowed well from drinks to dinner. The tacos de brisket are a must try. The corn tortilla shell was cooked perfectly and the brisket was overflowing in the taco and was so tender and filling. I had a very disappointing experience at Mi Cocina. I went with two friends for a dinner before one of them leaves the state for several months, and the service was poor from the moment we sat down. Our waiter barely checked on us. We had to ask for a drink menu because one was never provided, and after asking, it took almost another 10 minutes for him to return and take our drink order. When we ordered, the waiter took my ID and then disappeared again. When he finally came back, he refused to serve me alcohol because he said the photo on my ID didn't look like me. My ID is a valid, legal government-issued ID. The photo was taken when I was 16, and I am now 22, so naturally I look different. Instead of scanning the ID or taking any additional steps to verify it, he simply handed it back and refused service. One of my friends had her passport with her. He looked it over twice and even asked for her date of birth before accepting it. I wasn't given the same opportunity to verify my identity--he simply decided my ID wasn't acceptable based on the photo alone. After that experience, we decided to leave and just order desserts to go. Ironically, the fastest our waiter was the entire evening was when he brought our desserts and the check. What makes this even more frustrating is that I've been to the Mi Cocina at Highland Park Village before and had no issues being served alcohol with this same valid ID. I'm of legal drinking age, and my ID clearly reflects that. Unfortunately, between the poor service and the way this situation was handled, I won't be returning. read more

Mi Cocina's Highland Park location in Dallas has delicious taquitos & salsa! Went on a Saturday afternoon and the wait was long so I opted to eat outside and I was pleasantly surprised at the great service I received. My server was very attentive and kept my water glass full. I definitely appreciated that as I was burning up from the Texas sun. Their guacamole was smooth and delicious and so was my mezcal margarita. Will definitely come back next time I'm in Dallas and want to sit inside. The restaurant was decorated in beautiful Mexican decor. This place would be awesome for date night and large party gatherings. The plaza this restaurant is located in has security parking and valet. I recently made a visit to this location with several friends for a girls dinner. We had a good time with good food but even better, our server! We ordered appetizers, drinks and light entrees. The drinks were very good and came out to us quickly with the appetizers. Our server was Robert Garcia and he was amazing! He gave us extra napkins, silverware was clean. Such a great location. Christmas lights in The Village are beautiful. I had the chicken enchiladas with sunset sauce. Definitely recommend you get a side of this regardless of what you order. It's great. Has some nice heat. If you like caramelized onions they cook them perfectly. My wife who is Ms Particular definitely endorsed the caramelized onions. Be on the lookout for rookie servers. For what it is, Mi Cocina is just all right. Nothing stands out either good or bad. All of the food is as expected. The portions are a bit smaller than they appear. Flavoring on the protein is generally good, but not exceptional. There seems to be a lack of a little authentic Mexican spice. We have become semi-regulars of this Mi Cocina recently, after a very long hiatus. It's a nice option to Mariano's which is more expensive and much busier. We can count on getting a table with no problem here. The food at this Mi Cocina is consistently good. Almost everything we have tried has been really good, although the beef fajita is not as tender as at Mariano's. I have tried several dished in the past few months and my favorites are the Chimichanga and Nachos Locos. The double barrel margaritas are really good too. The wife likes the brisket tacos and the side of guac. We went with my mom for dinner last week and she ordered the shrimp. Oh my goodness, it really smelled. I was not sure it was safe to eat but she ate it and said it was fine. It smelled so strong that I would not have eaten it, so beware of that. The outside patio is great for the spring and fall. Service is consistently polite and efficient. I am giving it 4 stars because of the iffy shrimp but otherwise this restaurant is very good and we enjoy it. read more

Monkey Bar is a Dallas staple! In all honestly, I never ate this Mi Cocina, but all Mi Cocina's are delicious! I've only ever gone to the rooftop bar aka Monkey Bar. This a place you go to be seen & get fun off some mambo taxis. The crowd here is always a good mix of age ranges. The space is small so it's easy to strike up conversations with people. If I could rate it a one star I would. From the moment my family and I walked in we had a bad experience, the host people gave us a not so pleasant look and did not greet us. We asked if we had to have a reservation because we we were not sure and the host asked for how many people and we let her know. She then walked us to our table and we were sat. A minute later we were brought chips and salsa but not asked what we wanted to something to drink. My family and I noticed that a table that arrived after us were getting their drinks and were being served first. We decided to wait a little longer and a worker saw us without water and asked if we were being served and we told him no.
