    Plato El Trovador

Tela Mares has beautiful decorations that makes for a great atmosphere and photo-op. They have a "tunes juxebox" electronic thing so that you can play your music (you have to pay). The restaurant had no music playing but my family played some on the jukebox for the birthday boy and it set the vibe for the dinner. I ordered a tamarindo juice drink and it was absolutely amazing, the perfect amount of sweetness. I ordered the "Plato el trovador" which consists of beef, chicken fajita, shrimp and bbq ribs served with rice, beans and salad. Mexican food is my favorite therefore I can genuinely say the food was delicious. Sadly they were out of cake /deserts and this was a birthday dinner so that was a little disappointing. The food gets a solid 4/5 stars because it was delicious but I wouldn't say its the best. Not overpriced at all, very good pricing on the food. I recommend this place for dinner or birthday (mention the cake before to ensure they don't run out ahead of time)

*Baltimore Eats* Yelp 365 Challenge x 2 #211/365 You have to trudge through and find this gem in Fells Point. I'm still silently laughing because many would consider this a hole in the wall but honestly, when you want authentic food? You need to look or ask around for this type of restaurant! It's located in the Latin community of Fells Point and that manager and his staff were sooooo nice and helpful. The restaurant is pretty roomy with Latin decor (It reminded me of San Luis, Mexico near Yuma, Arizona). What was funny was that we walk into a Latin restaurant and the music playing was Gangam Style. I ordered Taquitos for appetizers while my co-worker ordered fried plantains. Then she had the chicken fajita plate while I ordered their Jalisco platter that had enchiladas, tacos and tamales! I tell you..it was good. I didn't walk away disappointed. The price also for our entire meal was very, VERY reasonable too. I just regret that I had no room for dessert. Overall Customer Service: ¡Muy Bueno! Food: La comida era muy deliciosa Ambiance: La decoración del restaurante había un tema latino Price: El precio no era caro Recommend: Sí, este restaurante es un buen lugar para comer

Tried Tela Mares on the recommendation of a fellow native Californian who is also snobby about her Mexican food. The exterior of the restaurant needs some TLC. The interior however seems newly renovated. It was very clean, bright and inviting. We both had the miXed fajita platter which included chicken, steak and shrimp. So delicious and authentic!! The patron margarita also hit the spot. Totally recommend for all you foodies who love your authentic Mexican cuisine.

Wonderfully fresh cerviche appetizer started us off.

Our server was attentive and professional. Had the spicy margarita (even one was on the house after I told them I was a teacher). Appetizers were the crab fritters and quesadilla with steak. I truly…read moreenjoyed how vibrant the ambiance is, as it is decorated with live plants, bamboo finishes, and bright colors. The tacos are clearly made with love! Each taco is extremely fresh and I can tell that it was crafted meticulously in the kitchen. Be mindful that each taco is priced separately and you get a single taco ranging from $10.00 - 15.00. The guacamole is fresh and garnished with strawberries. Personally, I typically go for a spicier and more flavorful guac, but if you opt for a fresh and simple dish, then it certainly checks the box. The queso is thick, cheesy, and topped with peppers. I personally could appreciate a creamier queso, but I will say the dish looks and smells amazing. The oysters are rather small in size but they're extremely fresh and come topped with a jalapeño. My expectations for the drinks were a bit higher than what they delivered. Drinks tasted a bit watery and the flavor wasn't as potent (this says a lot for someone like myself who is pretty light weight). Service was fairly accommodating, however, keep in mind that they enforce a rule of having half of your party there prior to seating you. Also be mindful that their menu changes to dinner at 5:00PM, and seating at the outside bar may be closed depending on when you arrive. My favorite of all the dishes was the was the Al Pastor taco! I'd like to give this place another try because just based off of the aesthetic alone it has sooo much potential to be absolutely amazing!

I've had ravioli at many restaurants, and this is by far the best! But let's start from the beginning. The place is small, there's not getting around that part. Let's call it quaint. There's the bar, several 2-seater tables, and a few 4-seater tables. Think converted row home, but only the first floor. Still, it packs a punch, in a good way. Let's call it cozy. We had a reservation, so we were seated right away. We started with cocktails. I ordered an espresso martini and my partner ordered El Fresco. They were both tasty. I've had better espresso martinis, but it was still good. My second drink was a beer. The draft machines were down, but the beer was still good. My partner ordered the strip steak that came with fries and salad. It wasn't your average salad. It was delicious. The fries had garlic & parsley. The were delicious as well. And she absolutely loved the steak. So much so that she kept trying to save some for the next day. It was a delicious meal! The parking is street parking. It's a cute spot. We'll be back!

They give you toasted bread with chimichurri as a starter-- definitely a nice addition. For the main course we had the vacio and bife de chorizo, both were excellent and served with a salad and fries. The beef was perfectly cooked to order and well seasoned. For dessert we had the flan con dulce de leche, wow! Really nice closing to a great meal. They also have a nice selection of wines and a full bar. If you're a soccer fan (specifically River Plate) you'll enjoy the place a little more. They have a replica of the FIFA World Cup you can hold. Anyway, definitely a worthwhile place to go for a meal if you're in the area. Note: they open at 5:00 pm.

We ordered a salad, lomo empanada, and 1/2 chicken meal with brussels sprouts & carrots and black beans. To drink we got a chica morada. The lomo empanada had a great flavor and texture which was great to split as an opener. The 1/2 chicken was flavorful with both the light and the dark meat worth trying. The chicken was halved right in from of us with a large cleaver and the freshness was notable. The brussel sprouts were plentiful, crispy if a pinch oily, and with a slight sweetness that went well with the chicken. The beans were fine; likely the only thing we would not get again. Both the mild (white) and medium (green) sauces went very well with both the empanadas and the chicken. The chicha morada tasted of corn, cloves and cinnamon and was a nice sweet treat. Overall, a wonderfully quick spot with great flavor in the inner harbor.

Came here for a celebratory family dinner while visiting Baltimore for the first time, and we knew…read morewe had to try seafood since Maryland is famous for its blue crabs. We ordered the small raw seafood tower, the steamed seafood platter, and the lobster pasta from the large plates section. We are a family of four with a pretty big appetite, and it ended up being the perfect amount of food for us. Everything was delicious and incredibly fresh. The raw tower came with cocktail sauce, mignonette, horseradish, and lemon slices, and the steamed platter was served with melted butter and nicely seasoned spices. There was also hot sauce and Old Bay seasoning on the table so you could customize everything to your taste. Once the seafood arrived we got fully busy with our hands and all the tools provided, which honestly made the whole experience even more fun. I genuinely cannot pick a favorite because we enjoyed every single thing we ordered. I also tried the Orange Crush, which I learned is a Maryland vodka drink made with freshly crushed fruit juice. That drink was dangerous because it tasted just like orange juice, but the vodka definitely sneaks up on you. Since we were celebrating, dessert was on the house, which was such a thoughtful touch. We shared the cast iron baked cookie with salted caramel ice cream and it was the perfect ending to the meal. The cookie was crispy around the edges, soft and moist in the middle, and the slight saltiness from the ice cream paired so well with it. Our server, Lylah, was wonderful and made sure we always had everything we needed throughout the meal. This ended up being such a memorable dinner for our family. Highly recommend The Choptank for seafood, celebrations, and a fun dining experience in Baltimore.

The waitress made a bunch of mistakes that she never apologized for like not bringing a bottle of wine we ordered until an hour after we sat down, accidentally ordering an additional seafood platter and not removing it from the check, not including fries with a dish that came with them, then charging us extra for them when we asked her to please bring them. In total lunch took over 3 hours when it should have been half that at most. Good help is hard to find these days it seems.
