Huge shoutout to Dr.Winkelstein. I put out a plea for help after being homeless for 8 months and stuck wearing the same contacts for the entire time. I desperately needed a new pair and couldn't afford them. He replied, being a member of the lions club and being his own doctor offered me a free exam and free glasses plus a pair of trial contacts to hold me over. He was so friendly and funny and personable, instantly made me feel at ease. I found out my old prescription was over corrected and why my vision has been blurry for years. I am so so so grateful to him and am excited to become a repeat client of his. His front desk staff was really friendly and nice to me as well. Highly recommend! Very disappointing! One of the worst experiences I have ever had. It took 3 months to get my glasses. My initial visit was scheduled for 9am and I wasn't seen until 9:45am. The letter chart they used to check my vision ran out out of batteries. They had no back up so I had to wait until someone ran to the store to get more. 1 month later they said my glasses were ready and then when I picked them up, the RX was wrong and they said they blamed it the lab. The caused my eyes to go two different directions. 1 month later.... the "lab" fixed the problem and then the blue light lenses that I paid extra for were not included. So... another month goes by and they tell me that the lenses are ready. I go in to get them and then they replaces the lenses and say, "here you keep the non-blue light lens" in case something happens... This place is a joke. I have no idea why it has a 4.9 rating. read more

I love Dr. Winkelstein, he's super friendly and the office staff is always friendly as well. Yes, the frames are luxury but I think it's honestly worth it. This review is purely based on the poor management, not the doctor which I am sure is an incredible one based on his reviews. Here it goes: I wrote an email requesting an appointment weeks ago. After attempting to call on October 12th and and receiving no returns, I let it go & was determined to go back to my hometown to get an appointment. On November 3rd, I get a call from a lady apologizing for the delay of never responding and the excuse of being short staffed. I understood because businesses are short staffed. My parents own a medical office and I completely understand being short staffed however it is inexcusable to call someone weeks later. She asked if I wanted an appointment for the following Thursday the 10th at 10:45 am. I said yes. My fiancé was also in the car that morning, I wrote down the appointment in my calendar because we have an event coming up. Fast forward to today : I took the entire day off and showed up at the appointment only for the lady there to tell me that she couldn't see an appointment for me. That the doctor wasn't in....Then tells me oh we sent you a reminder , it's actually next Thursday at 10:45 am on the 17th. I proceeded to show her the phone number they called me from on my caller ID, called the number to see if it would ring in the office because for a second I thought I was at the wrong place. I asked her "is this your number"She said yes, this is our number. This is At 10:31 am.... Then proceeded to tell me "oh we sent you a reminder before you came in today that your appointment is for next week" Shocker. Reminder came at 10:35 am.....she tried telling me they sent this before I had even walked in. Having bad management for your medical office can honestly crash someone's business. I AM 100% THIS DOCTOR IS A WONDERFUL PERSON and a very competent man. However whoever is scheduling, returning calls or emails is doing an awful job. Please don't play future patients and come up with excuses. She tried to tell me that they sent a reminder for next week before me even coming in the office today. A week in advance reminder ? What business sends a reminder for an appointment a week in advance ? Maybe 2 days, but not a week. It makes me think she put me down for an appointment right then and there as we were talking. This is extremely disappointing! A day of work/interviews completely lost. Sharing the proof of how this was managed and to tell the doctor that he needs to hire a management team that is passionate about his work and his business. read more

I chose to come to this optometrist for my first optometry appointment. I was not disappointed. The ladies at the front were very kind and helped me pick out my glasses and were very honest with me which I loved! The doctor was great! The only positive about this shop is Marissa who works in the front and promotes the business. She was great when I brought my older son in for his first frames. I had a completely opposite experience though when I went back to have an eye exam done for myself. As a single parent, I already feel guilt and frustration when my children are acting up, but when I start the appointment by saying that it may be better to reschedule it is then completely unacceptable for Dr. Alan with his pediatric optometry degree to be huffing, rolling his eyes, and then threatening to end the exam early if my 2 year old doesn't go sit and stay. I was scolding him and trying to direct him but he is 2 and does not always listen. The variety of frames is also extremely limited to square shape so it was not a hard decision to leave after just having the exam. After that experience with the doctor, I would never return or recommend this shop to anyone but especially not to anyone having to bring children with them. read more

Very unprofessional all around. I don't know how they got so many positive reviews. Talking rudely about patients behind their back, upset when you don't want to spend your money on their products, and just rude overall. Had to ask for my prescriptions before leaving the place, which seemed odd to me as well. Not going back and don't recommend ppl going. Gave +1 star because the prescriptions are decent, I am not blind, but could be better. But I think Dr. Winks childish behavior may have rubbed off on his team. read more

I went in and had my vision checked and then ordered my lenses for a pair of frames that I had and when they called me back the frames were broken and they said they would take care of it but it's been a year and I still haven't received even a phone call. Have left multiple messages with no response while he keeps traveling the world with the money he stole from me. Not very happy with his lack of communication and professionalism. read more

I actually have fun every time I come to this doctor. He is extremely personable and hilarious. I always ask him a million questions and he always answers them and elaborates until I understand the concept. He is so helpful and very knowledgeable. The impression I get is that he clearly has a passion for optometry and cares about his patients. I got an eye exam and just needed new lenses put into my frames. They didn't try to hustle me and get me to buy frames or anything. Also, I expressed my concerns to the doctor about being blind all week while they have my glasses, and he kindly gave me 10 pairs of the dailies contacts to wear until I get my glasses back! Nothing works better for sales than trying the product. Due to this lucky free trial period of contacts, I learned that I love them and am going to buy some contacts when I go back in there to pick up my glasses. read more

I have not had an eye exam since late 2019. Due to covid-19 I delayed getting an exam until I was vaccinated, and it seemed safer to be in an exam. I just moved back to Temecula and had no idea who to use as an optometrist. Going through Yelp I found Dr. Winkelstein's office and was able to get a quick appointment and they took my insurance. This was a fantastic exam and I found Dr. Winkelstein to be so very amiable, professional and thorough. I highly recommend this Dr. to anyone needing an eye exam. read more

I have been going to Temecula Valley optometry for many years and Dr. Winkelstein is awesome along with the entire staff of Temecula Valley optometry! I didn't realize their hours were different on Fridays, and I showed up about two hours after they had already closed wanting to get my glasses adjusted. I was at the door, looking through the window to see if anyone was there, and Dr. Winkelstein was in his car, leaving the parking lot and saw me and asked me what I needed. Absolutely amazing Dr. to visit. I woke up with an allergic reaction to a lash lift today (Sunday) at 9am. No ophthalmologists near me are open, so I start going insane! I called around on the emergency lines as every website stated, but no one answered! No one except Dr. Wink. He stated he was in San Diego for around 2 more hours, but he could see me around 11am. I told him I'd rather meet at 1pm so he wasn't rushed. At 1pm I get to the office, understanding that unfortunately he doesn't take my insurance and worried about the cost, but knowing I needed his help. The whole check up was only $75! He thoroughly checked my eyes, explained EXACTLY what I needed and even gave me a coupon for some over the counter medication I can use in the future to help my allergies. He came in on his day off, was extremely helpful, and at no point made me feel like an inconvenience, all for $75! He even asked me to text him tonight and tomorrow morning to update him on my eye's condition, which has already vastly improved. Thank you Dr. Wink! read more

I decided to come here after researching Optometrists in Temecula/Murrieta online. Looking at reviews and everything. This placed interested me the most so I decided to give them a try. I've had my fair share of optometrists, and this has been my BEST experience hands down. Acknowledged immediately upon entrance with a greeting and smile. Arrived a bit earlier than my appointment time, so I asked if I could take a look around at the lenses while I waited. I like that they've taken the proper precautions during this pandemic. Masks required, social distance markers, and properly cleaning lenses that have been touched. I felt safe and comfortable the whole time I was browsing. I was called in by Dr. Wink right at my scheduled appointment time. Right off the bat, I could already tell he was a great guy. Loved his energy. Great conversationalist. I've had so many experiences of awkward/forced conversations during these appointments, but not here. He was genuinely a joy to be around. Took maybe 30 minutes at the most. Left, and I already had my lenses chosen so the process to get my glasses was quick as well. Vanessa was as great as Dr. Wink. She was extremely knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly! I wanted to get a second option on whether I was a good candidate for LASIK surgery and found Dr. Winkelstein by searching my insurance's web site. Turns out a friend of mine goes here and I asked her about going here and she recommended him. So I called and the person answering the phone rearranged his schedule (with another patients approval) so I could be seen the next day. Dr. Winkelstein did an exam and answered ALL my questions. I felt that he was very honest and very caring about his patients and will be making him my eye doctor as soon as I have completed my obligations with my current eye Dr. My husband has already switched over and I believe my daughter will too! I have seen Dr. for several years. I always ordered progressive lenses which has vision from distant down to reading. I asked what is difference with ones with lines. I was told same but you can see line. Since saved about $ 75. I ordered. When received I could not see any mid distances. When going back, in less than 5 minutes, Dr. said I need progressive. I told him about above story, he said all I would have to pay is difference in price. I am thinking $ 75 no he figured up and said $ 350. which was more than I paid originally for frames and lenses. Go figure. This is true story. I said no way and went elsewhere and got new lenses and frame for $ 220. read more

I am only writing this review for the FRONT OFFICE, not the dr. The Dr is amazing and makes you feel comfortable. However I think he needs to hire a new front office, I had my eye exam two weeks ago and I've been waiting for a call back from Nicole in regards to my insurance. I have called her five times and she has not given me a call back not even once, she told me she will call me back and NEVER does, which is super irritating and not professional. I work in a dental office and we verify benefits ahead of time, I have no issues getting ahold of my insurance but it's like pulling hair to make her call them which is her JOB. Once again I called yesterday and spoke to a different lady and never got a call back. I have been waiting to get a new pair of glasses this whole time. This has been an awful experience I have ever had at this office. I can't believe how unprofessional and disturbing it is that this front office is so lazy. Thanks for nothing! Now I can't even get new glasses that I have been waiting patiently for, I have given her multiple chances and I've had enough. I will go ahead and make a report to medical board of CA. read more

Dr Wink was awesome, very personable. He did a great job and I have to say was more thorough than previous optometrists I've seen. Since trial contacts don't come in quarter increments I had a quarter power stronger than needed to get me by for a few days while I waited for my trials to come in. The following Friday I still had not received the call that my trials were in. Ok, so I call and one of the staff there admitted that they had never requested my trials. Ok! So another week goes by, my trials are in! I wear the correct lenses for a week and order my years worth of contacts on Feb 3rd. On Feb 21 I still didn't have my contacts so I call to follow up and am told they will call me back. I get a voicemail saying that I should have my "special" lenses by Friday because the tracking says they are "in transit". So today is Friday and my lenses are here, low and behold, they were ordered on Feb 21st at 430pm, the packing slip showed the date and time the order was placed. I know mistakes happen, but 2 in a row? And why not just be honest and say "I'm so sorry, I don't know what happened they were never ordered. I'll order them and have them delivered asap!" I want to reiterate that Dr Wink was GREAT and the staff were friendly I am just disappointed in the ordering process. read more

I have been going to Dr. Winkelstein for many years now. Even after moving almost an hour away, I am still a patient of his. Recently, after experiencing some irritation from my contacts, I developed severe redness and a corneal ulcer. Although it was very late in the evening, Dr. Winkelstein immediately answered my frantic call and phoned in a prescription to the nearest 24 hour pharmacy. He was then able to see me first thing the next morning. Later on that day, he called and asked how I was doing. My child comes to Dr. Wink for vision therapy, although the doctor is not the one who actually preforms the therapy. He has a contracted person who actually does the therapy and she is great! Friendly and helpful! I gave this place low stars because every SINGLE time I go into this place ( one a week!!), the office staff is HORRIBLE! Not welcoming, not friendly.. literally will not speak to you! It's very uncomfortable, especially when you try to make light conversation. I asked a specific question and literally was ignored.. So I asked again and was told that "she would get to it", only she never got around to it! Dr. Wink himself is knowledgeable but there is an " off" vibe in that office. read more
