I really liked that there was a feed and tack store in Tempe. What I don't like about this business is the owner. He is always rushed, and rude! When I ask about a specific product, he never carries it. At one point when I asked about Amber naturals, he gave me a lecture why he didn't like it. You don't have to like a product to carry it. Especially one that is a natural healthy product for animals. I asked about Red Lake Earth DE Earth, he doesn't carry it. I asked about ivermectin, and I was lied to and told there is a shortage. When asked why he claims to be lower priced guaranteed, he became offensive. Is it worth it to save time and gas to go to this store any longer, no it is not. Check his prices against other competitors, major retail and small businesses, and you'll see you'll save money elsewhere. I'm done giving neighborhood businesses chances. Only To be treated rudely by the owner. Now let me add his sons are very nice, obviously don't take after their father. Hopefully daddy will retire, and the sons will run the business with wonderful customer service. read more

Without going into my entire experience of going to Tempe Feed and Tack I can just tell you I went there on a whim to get what I needed and ended up staying and exploring for much more! I have 2 new puppies and will never need to go to a Petco or Petsmart again. The staff was beyond friendly, helpful, and honest. I felt educated (and a better puppy mom) when I left! Something I have never experienced from the large franchise stores (through the years going for our other critter). I will definitely be going back again. read more

I told the owner, Arthur that he's done the impossible: gotten 5 stars on Yelp. :) I can see why. I went in yesterday while I was in this part of town for a variety of reasons: my cats, a very big older dog, hedgehogs and wildlife. Arthur helped with everything. They have extremely good pricing on the highest quality dog food and more. Arthur even helped with my older dog's health issues. He said he didn't know much about hedgehogs but he knew enough -- I was able to get mealworms, hay for my rabbits, bedding for the hedgies, raw food and dry food for my dog, and now I just need to convert my cats off of the horrible commercial food they're on... If I can find an affordable solution. Everything is very well priced. I was surprised I spent maybe 1/2 of what I would have at PetSmart. Probably a 1/4 actually. Much of this "high quality food" is completely unaffordable but they had some great options. If you feed your dog raw, you can get a giant tube of raw beef, turkey or other products for under $20. The pre-cut up kind is a little more. At PetSmart, a small bag of raw dog food is $45 I think - it's crazy. They also loaded it all into my trunk for me, thank you! They have antibiotics, bedding, anything you need, and if they don't have it, they can order it for you. Sorry for my long review, but I love locally owned businesses and they are really kind and helpful and well priced - and great at what they do. The tiny space has LOTS of product. I will be back and btw, they open at 8ish most days, which can help since most places don't open that early. They're in a small building just north of Hardy on University. Hands down my favorite place to go to get my pet supplies. The customer service here is top notch. They are all super sweet, helpful, knowledgable (have given great advice on the differences in products and my pets sensitivities with diet) and always carry my dog food to the car for me. I have never left without a smile - a sharp contrast to when I have on the rare occasion had to go to Pet Club for late hour shopping (bored teenagers that usually could care less about the customer) - I usually leave there a tad irritated. I always come here to get my cat food because they have the best prices for really great food. Anything you purchase is gunna be the right, wholesome food for your cat or dog...grain free and the first ingredient will be protein. The people there are always helpful and friendly and they are knowledgeable. They'll answer your questions and give you the best advice to their knowledge on pet food and pet health in general. This is what pet stores should be like. It's small, family owned and operated, has a great curated selection of quality products, and they're very friendly and helpful. This is the kind of place where I'd pay a premium to shop, however the prices are good too. Now I'm new to the pet shopping game, but I have two price comparisons I can mention. The first store I went to was PetSmart, where after getting lost in 5+ aisles of dog food (it was confusing to say the least) I found a grooming brush for $13. There were a couple options, both the same price. Neither appealed to me because of the colors. I picked the purple because it seemed to be higher quality. Anyway... the following day I make it to Tempe Feed & Tack. There they had grooming brush in a neutral beige/clear color that was better quality for only $10. I couldn't believe it. Also while here I bought a 30 lbs bag of Victor dog food for $48. The guy working there gave me for free a ziplock with some enzyme powder to help the transition from shelter food to high protein grain-free food. Later, I looked up the bag of dog food on Amazon for $52. Nice. Look no further than Tempe Feed & Tack. They're legit in service, quality, experience, and price. read more

I cannot believe it took me so long to go into this store! The name makes it sound like they would sell giant bags of cheap dog chow with no label on it BUT they have really good high quality food and treats, the prices are very competitive, and they sell vaccines too! The owner has some really good advise and sometimes some very... interesting advise.... they did give me the phone number for a clinic that gives rabies vaccines that don't contain mercury.. I didn't even know there was mercury in the rabies vaccine, so I will definitely being checking that place out when the time comes!! The owner is clearly VERY passionate and I appreciate that! They even have a frequent buyer program after you buy so many bags of dog food you get one free, just save your receipts and the food bar codes. Amazing store! read more

Tempe Feed and Tack is the only place I will get food for my dog! I have been coming here since my dog was about 3 months old, so about a year now. The owners, Robin and Arthur, absolutely love my dog! Especially Robin. And even her kids know who my dog is and they love him just as much. And her kids are so amazing as well. They're all so sweet. They remember us every time we come in and Robin is always giving my dog treats and she is just so kind. I would highly recommend this place! Robin is so knowledgeable whenever I have any questions about my dog (and since I was a first time dog owner, I needed a LOT of help). I called into this store about a week ago looking to buy baby chickens. The person who answered the phone informed me that they did not sell chicks but gave me the names and phone numbers of other feed stores that do. I was really impressed with their customer service so I bought my chicks elsewhere and went here to buy the rest of my necessities. This place is truly one of a kind. As soon as I walked in I was kindly greeted and promptly asked what I was looking for. I let them know I was going to be a first time chick owner and was in need of the basics. This review is long overdue. I've been coming to Tempe Feed & Tack for 7 years and they're amazing! My dog had digestive issues, and I knew I didn't want her eating crap food. They always have a smile and a friendly word, as well as always carry the big bad of food to my car for me. Don't be fooled by the lack luster review - I highly suggest everyone coming in, even if it's just to grab treats for their pets (I get my cat toys and treats here too), and they have the best bones for pups too - even antlers! read more

I really like this place. Art(hur), the owner, was incredibly helpful with information re: the new adoption of my pet and he stocks a variety of the better foods in the industry. He was informative regarding the food, but most of all he wasn't stingy and was completely willing to give me treats to try with my pet. It's small, which may be a turn off for some, but it's extremely nice not to have to walk to aisle 15 to lug 40 lbs of dog food back to the car and pet friendly. I Love this store! I brave University construction to come here. I have a new pup who is extra itchy- not mites, not fleas, no apparent whelps or rashes, not even red skin. I've tried oatmeal bathes, tea bathes, coconut oil- you name it, to try to soothe his scratchiness. I'm attempting to eliminate food allergies starting with chicken and after getting lost in the interwebs, I came running here (scared) to locate a better diet for my new baby. Ms Robin was a godsend. She has a wealth of knowledge, experience, and compassion- an earnest desire to help give happy, healthy lives to our fur babies. She was amazingly helpful and articulate in recommending a raw food diet along with a plethora of pointers and advice on both the process of and transition to the new diet. She went above and beyond to assist me in making the best choice for my pup and ensuring success of the new meal plan. She endured endless questions from diet to vaccinations, volunteered life stage advice, and plainly put, deserves a medal for the stellar service she provided me today. I simply cannot say enough good things about this place or the people. Poor Jacob was so patient and helpful to me, I wasn't the most collected customer for him today! The prices are great and you can find some really good specials there, too. If your dog is sick you can buy remedies there and they will be able to give you advice on similar episodes they have been through with their dog. The staff's time, attention, and helpfulness is unparalleled in comparison to any major chain. For me, the reason why I choose Tempe Feed and Tack is because every time I bring my dogs in the staff will not only remember their names but they remember which tricks they know and they always have treats at the ready. I really love buying from this place. Every time I go in, I always end up spending an extra 20min looking around at all the fun, health oriented pet care products - I can't help it! I have to make sure that I have some time to kill whenever I get dog and cat food. Not only that, but the employees there really know what they're talking about and are really helpful (they'll even carry a big bag to your car! Or bike!). As I said, I spend a lot of time browsing when I go in, and the staff is always friendly and are more than happy to talk about the products without being pushy. This past weekend my shih tzu puppy was being very picky about his food that he would throw up due to an empty stomach. when I visited Tempe feed they gave my dog asample of freeze dried meat. I have never tried this before but my dog ate it! The very next day I spoke to the owner and she gave me a one on one experience of her life with the dog very similar to mine. It was very insightful and I ended up leaving with a bag of freeze-dried food and snacks. I really like this place and have been going there ever since I had my Shih Tzu. I've been buying dog food and dog hygiene/medical products here for the last six months, and I've found that the staff are really knowledgeable, and they are also low-pressure. These guys genuinely want to help you find the right product, and they don't try to up-sell or plug extra/unnecessary stuff.
